Let us take comfort that this allegedly cold winter is just a hoax.

Consequently, I take consolation in what I really know, and so should all of us. That half of Europe is paralyzed, that the northwestern United States and huge swaths of Canada experienced whiteouts even during the Copenhagen conference convened to combat global warming, that Copenhagen itself was in the midst of an intense cold spell, and that the coming months, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, promise even worse — all these undeniably chimerical manifestations should not disturb us in the least.

For the truth is unassailable. It is growing demonstrably hotter. Winters are rapidly becoming spring-like and summers are unlivably torrid. Hurricanes are ripping up our cities and devastating our farmlands. Voles and moles and all the little creatures of the earth are rapidly dying off. Mutant fish are baking on the rocks. The Himalayas are vanishing. Greenland is breaking up. Tuvalu is a goner. The air is thick with unbreathable effluents. If we do not react decisively, go carbon neutral, install cap and trade no later than tomorrow or the day after, listen deferentially to United Nations bureaucrats, and transfer trillions of dollars to voracious third-world sinkholes — in short, if we do not push for immediate legislation to reverse the industrial revolution, at least in the West, and provide carbon credits to benefit the developing regions of the world at our expense, the fat will soon be melting off our bones.

Let us rally, then, behind our political leaders and climate prophets to avert catastrophe, and let us be ever vigilant against the evidence of our senses, a phenomenon that has been much exaggerated. For we know three undoubted things. First, that Gaia is mad as hell. Second, that weather is not climate, so we may freely disregard cold, darkness, and frozen immobility — assuming, of course, these are realities, which they clearly are not. And third, that as human beings we are susceptible to manipulation and propaganda. This behooves us to do our utmost to resist the brainwashing techniques of the media besieging us with lying reports about record cold temperatures and relentless blizzards of snow and ice shutting down whole nations.

None of this is happening and seeing is not believing. We are as a species far too easily deceived and always ready to confer authority on those who claim to be experts, such as climate skeptics and newspaper reporters. Are we so credulous as to fall for the myth of aggravated winters that is being foisted upon us? Will we submit to this kind of mind massage? Are not our intuitive faculties, supplemented by computer models and the reliable findings of such organizations as the Hadley Climate Research Unit, sufficient to dispel the phantoms of empiricism? Global cooling indeed! For the facts are in, the science is settled, and global warming is threatening our very survival even as I write, the sweat pouring from my brow. The time has come to act.

In related news, Spain’s Meteorological Office released yesterday that despite Global Warmers claims there has been no measurable warming in Spain for the last 70 years.

Thank you so much. I was beginning to believe there was some significance in having snow that fell Christmas Eve still here in the yard in SW Oklahoma on Jan. 13. As if that’s never happened before. I’m sure the Comanches saw something like that in their buffalo pasture back around 1810 or so.

This is indeed the thinking process of Pelosi, Obama,Al Gore, and the rest of these schmucks!!!

You’ve forgotten, now it’s called “Climate change”. Heating, cooling, does not matter, everything fits.

Now Please take a moment to practice your AlGorian chants.

David – Spot-on. Anyway, don’t you know you shouldn’t confuse AGW with the weather when it gets frigid and frost. You should only do that when it gets torrid and toasty. After all, AGW is Mann-made.

    Excellent!

However as David Solway’s interview in Front Page demonstrates, the independent mind with appendaged eyes, ears, nose, mouth and temperature sensitive skin is no match for the dogma of the left.

These people, especially within the herds they gather to ruminate on and then fulminate their politically correct views brook no opposition. They are right, always right and woe betide the Martin Luther’s who would pin the truth to their lie on the church doors of free thought and the sites which sow the seeds of opposition to the totalitarian nightmare these people gladly espouse.

One Day in the Life of an Ex-Leftie – by Jamie Glazov http://frontpagemag.com/2010/01/13/one-day-in-the-life-of-an-exleftie-by-jamie-glazov/

I too was of the left. I too had friends by the handful. I too woke up gradually at first, then as my own convictions gained solidarity, in a kind of rush of an almost religious experience as the scales dropped and blessed enlightenment confirmed all those quietly contained nagging doubts of discontent and subversion.

There was a time when the left was the minority, the counterculture dwelling in Greenwich Village coffee houses, living on the basket money and raging against the ‘man’.

Those days are gone and just as the ‘scene’ has been plasticised for tourist consumption, so have the brains of the revolutionary’s as they, joined by millions of other non individual adoptees of the happy clappy, right on, look at my lifestyle cult morph into the mainstream.

Make no mistake, individuality is on the run. Free thought is in free-fall. Mass consumption has consumed what was the real left and turned it into a theme park of grotesque inverted values. And demagoguery.

Then figure whose pulling the strings? Why, it’s the new ‘man’. He may hide under the guise of liberality but he’s far from liberal and he’s still taking your money.

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose, I guess.

While humans were looking for extraterrestials with the SETI project, the plant forms of Earth were doing the same thing through telepathy. While humans are unsuccessful so far, the plants were able to make contact with extraterrestial intelligent plant forms (EIPF). Earth’s plants are fed up being co2 starved, being eaten by flatulent cows and unwashed liberal human vegans.

The EIPF have arrived in their cloaking-device equipped flying saucers and are responsible for the current cold snap, hoping to dissuade humans from cutting the co2 emissions. I know from good authority that some of the executives of Big Oil and Big Coal are really EIPF’s in disguise.

    Mr. Solway;

I have it on pretty good authority that we’ll be globally warming again by August or so.

(At least in the Northern Hemisphere).

Sadly. those who need to hear this haven’t the attention span to read it. Perhaps narrated in a Dr. Seus format?

Can’t remember in which Ayn Rand novel or which character said it but:

“In an arugment between two reasonable people, reality will be the final arbiter”

AGW proponents are not reasonable people.

  13. 13. Sir Shrek

It is so refreshing to see that someone has an accurate,,umm, spin on reality. I really feel you should have, er, a, let it ALL out instead of holding back so much. Holding back is constipating, while getting it all off your chest is liberating. Better be near a toilet when you feel that liberating moment.

For a good giggle on this topic, read “Fallen Angels” by Niven, Pournelle, and Flynn. Although this was written a while back, the topic is interestingly relevant: the greens take power in the US, cut down air pollution and CO2 emissions – and “surprise”, AGW turned out to be the only thing holding us back from the next ice age.

  16. 16. Larry J

What the AGW climate modelers can’t seem to grasp is “when your model fails to reflect reality, it isn’t reality that’s wrong.”

And next sumer, when record heat wafts across your nose, you will forget your circumstantial evidence of immediacy and claim, “It’s summer, what do you expect?”

    You have no standing.

My friend, you need to move to Southern Calif. where all is bliss, and the liberals are buying hybred cars to save the planet. What used to be,’Reagon Country’ is Goreland, Yes ignorance is bliss until you leave S. Calif and face reality !

For thos of you who would like to discuss Michael-Mann Made Global Warming with your Neighbors (That being people you live next to and work with, not the Trolls that inhabit forums.) who seem to learn all of their Climate Change information from the alphabet soup news, I offer the following link.

Never forget; Climate Change is what you call Global Warming when your Global Warming summit/protest/conference is cancelled due to snow.

I have a copy of a Newsweek article warning about ominous climate changes which could result in species extinction, starvation, food riots, etc. The article tells of NOAA scientists concerned that elected officials won’t take any positive action to compensate for this change in Earth’s climate. The last sentence in the article warns, “The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the grim results become reality.” This article was published April 28, 1975 and was warning about global cooling and an impending ice age.

  22. 22. AP

Please, if you’re going to attack Global Warming at least do it without straw men.
Global Warming DOESN’T mean that everything gets hotter, everything depends on the jet streams and weather patterns. The ice caps warm yes, but the Northeastern US gets colder.

As much as I hate to quote Thomas Friedman, he said a better term would be “Global Weirding.”

This is a lot more difficult to critique, but it’s worth it for the sake of a legitimate argument.

  23. 23. jd

    Gosh AP,

That’s a different tune than they were singing back in 2000.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/snowfalls-are-now-just-a-thing-of-the-past-724017.html

If I might list the Money Quote from that article…

“According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.”

Funny how their story keeps changing to fit conditions.

    AP,
That-a-boy! Hold on tight; don’t let go! You can do it; fight it, fight it, don’t give that little voice of reason deep in the bowels of your fellow-travelling soul the time of day…Whew that was a close one, eh? You almost came to.

It’s the same old song & dance: We need Communism to rid us of __________________ (fill in the blank). 30 years ago it was Global Cooling then it switched to Global Warming (“Climate Change”) & now it’s back to Global Cooling. Same media frauds with the same message. Ignore them. They are fools.

  26. 26. JED

“Let us take comfort that this allegedly cold winter is just a hoax.”
Another part of this hoax is the 25% increase in my home heating bill over the moving average of the last 18 years. Do the utility companies accept Algore off-set carbon credits?

  27. 27. Jack in Silver Spring

skeeziks @ #18: Will next summer be warmer than normal?Well last summer seemed to be cooler than normal in my area (although I cannot tell whether it was outside of 2 standard deviations becuase I don’t know the standard deviation for this area); and so far this heating season seems to be about average (somewhat warmer than normal fall, somewhat cooler than normal winter) and just a tad warmer than last year. What will next summer bring? My best guess is that it will be about what it was last year. So, I highly doubt it will be warmer than normal and maybe cooler than normal (as last summer was). But even if there are some really hot days this next summer, so what? Happens all the time in a normal summer.

I hasten to add, if you think there is AGW do not trust what has been spewed forth by the fraudsters at U. of East Anglia’s CRU unit or by the fraudster at PSU, Michael Mann. They have an agenda other than science and economics. To determine if there is AGW, you will have to go elsewhere. I note that a good antidote to all the nonsense form CRU and PSU on AGW is Viscount Lord Monckton who writes with great clarity on the subject. He has pointed out that most of what the IPCC has published (which comes mostly from CRU and PSU) is rubbish. Moreover, he has pointed out, that even if it were accurate, reducing CO2 by ang significant amount comes at a great cost while yielding trivial benefits. What he has to say can be found at http://sppiblog.org/.

Finally, I note here, that twenty years of warming or cooling mean nothing in the scale of time for this planet. When you have a very long series that is chaotic, as is weather on earth, it is only a matter time before a seeming anomaly appears. For example, in a gazillion flips of a fair coin, you will get runs of heads (or tails). It does not mean the coin is biased, it is just means that you haven’t seen the entire set of flips. That is the nature of randomness. Correspondingly, in earth history, I am sure there have been runs of centuries of abnormally cold or hot spells because weather on this planet is random.

AP @ #22: What does global warming mean if it doesn’t mean the globe is getting warmer? If global warming can mean anything, then it has to mean nothing. (Old Hegelian theorem: everything = nothing.) BTW the ice caps are not warming, and the weather is always weird.

  28. 28. John "birther" Samford

Stepping away from the various attempts at humor, the debate IS NOT about climate change, global warming or global cooling or anything else you want to call it. The Earth undergoes periodic changes in temperature, geography, atmospheric composition, magnetic field etc. There is no debate on that.
There are different terms used to describe the time period (t) of these cycles. That isn’t a valid debate either.
The debate is over the cause of the various changes in this planets physical condition. AGW nutters think that it is due to human causes. Those that are sceptical of that claim point to the fact that things on this planet were changing long before humans were here, among other problems with the AGW hypothesis.
None of this would be of any interest if the AGW nutters wern’t using their crackpot hypothesis to defraud the rest of us out of TRILLIONS of dollars.
As always, it’s about the money.
If the ‘cure’ for “global warming” cost $19.99 at Radio Shack, no one would care. Not even Radio Shack.

An amusing article, but not very enlightening. Don’t get me wrong, I am very much of a “denier,” but anecdotes are not a substitute for science. Yes, of course the other side does it all time, but that is all the more reason for us not to.

The basic problem with the AGW hypothesis is that the information that is most important to determining the its validity is also that which we now the least about. What is the feedback from water vapor and clouds in response to CO2? Most of what we know about such feedback points to it being negative, thus countering the effect of the trace greenhouse gas that is supposedly responsible for our impending doom. Until our knowledge of this feedback is well known, all the alarmism is simply political eyewash and worse.
