The other competing cities made their pitches about what they could do to make the Olympics successful: transportation, facilities, hotel rooms, etc. M, O and O made an emotional appeal as to what the Olympics could do for Chicago: Give us the Olympics because that’s what my father would have wanted, it’s for the children, diversity, etc. The emotional appeal also probably lost a great deal of its heartstring-tugging effectiveness since most of the delegates heard it via a translators voice through an earbud. Since Rio is in the southern hemisphere, won’t we be able to have both the Summer and Winter Olympics at the same time?

When evaluating character, I find it useful to pay attention to what the person actually says, not what others tell you what they mean. This President, like it or not, has said on more than one occasion that “no nation should be above another” and other such and equally moronic babble suitable for a pony tailed Social Studies professor in the local community college. The latest embarrassment was at the UN, which I think was in very recent memory. I listened to the whole thing.

So, despite the best efforts of certain posters here who are trying to convince me that I am not hearing what I heard, and seeing what I saw, I frankly do not believe you. You resort, as you always to, to ad hominen and straw men to defend the indefensible. It is a sign of utter desperation.

No amount of smoke screen will work in the future.

Observer and Now and Then….what exactly do you have against a third world country getting the chance to host the first ever Summer Olympics in South America? Why can’t we share the wealth with them for a change? Do you think Cariocas aren’t smart enough to pull this off, even though they manage to host Carnival every year and will host the World Cup in 2010?

Or are you….maybe…in spite of your dearly held liberal beliefs…a little bit racist?
