Geller Agonistes — Truth in Advertising About the Jihad Against Israel
All of us who cherish Western free speech, particularly when it elucidates irrefragable truths, owe an enormous debt to journalist and author Pamela Geller.
With courageous tenacity, and unflappable poise (listen to former New York Governor David Paterson’s own eyewitness account of her appearance at the New York Metropolitan Transportation [MTA] Authority board meeting, 9/27/12 ), Ms. Geller obtained permission to post advertisements in the New York City subway system that appositely characterize the Palestinian Muslim—and larger global Muslim umma’s—annihilationist jihad against Israel.
An earlier advertising campaign allowed by the MTA promulgated the ahistorical, Islamic supremacist narrative: that all of historical Palestine remains the “fay territory,” or booty, of its 7th century Muslim jihad conquerors who massacred, pillaged, deported, and enslaved the indigenous non-Arab Christian, Jewish, and Samaritan communities; ignored the fact that in 1922, 78% of the League of Nations Mandate for a Jewish Palestinian homeland was arbitrarily used to create a Judenrein by law Muslim state, i.e. “Trans-Jordan” (see contemporary Jordan’s law no. 6, sect. 3, April 3, 1954, reactivated in law no. 7, sect. 2, on April 1, 1963; p. 119, n 82); claimed that since 1948, Israel’s defensive wars of survival deprived the would-be murderous Palestinian Muslim community (abetted by Muslim nation armies, and jihadist volunteers, in the Middle East, and beyond) of some of the remaining disputed territory, while being responsible for “4.5 million Palestinian refugees”— at least six-fold the actual number of perhaps 750,000, and oblivious to the fact 900,000 Jews in Muslim lands, well removed from the battlegrounds in historical Palestine, were simultaneously made refugees via murderous pogroms, expropriations, and expulsions, between 1948 and 1967.
Geller crafted a response to these mendacious anti-Israel ads, and overcame the MTA’s initial refusal to post her ad, with a successful legal challenge. The anti-jihad ad (just below) paraphrases Ayn Rand’s astute, if blunt comments about Palestinian irredentism during a 1979 appearance on Phil Donahue’s show, while, affirming, correctly, the jihad war being waged against Israel.
“Free speech champion” Pamela Geller? Geller is a profiteer who adds nothing to the conversation except to make money and inflame the situation. What value is there in putting anti-Muslim ads in the MTA? Ms. Geller has certainly won the legal victory, but the moral victory is a distant light. Islam is not the enemy, radical Islam is. Yet Ms. Geller cannot differentiate.
The only reference to anything “muslim” in the posters is:
“Support Israel
Defeat jihad”
So, if you say that “jihad”= “muslim” you are saying that all muslims are jihadists, and that there is no other islam than radical islam.
Or else you are just offending Ms. Geller for the sake of offending her.

Islam at its core is a totalitarian ideology. The origin of the word “radical” is the Latin “radix” which implies going back to the roots. “Islam”, literally meaning “Submission”, is radical almost by definition. Why?
There can scarcely be anything more radical than demanding of any free person to submit to one’s threats and bullying.
Those who threaten and act out their threats openly, are obvious radicals, and in our society they are criminals as well. Those “inner jihadists”, who merely condone their actions but remain unidentified, however, are morally just as guilty.
We have to assume that only a small hand full of Muslims condemn the above, but are afraid to speak out. They should be reminded that unless they do, Islam’s 14 centuries’ trail of violence and human rights violations will be “credited” also to their accounts.
We have no way to differentiate between these categories without risking our lives, and as free men and women who do not submit to illegitimate threats or bullying, we’ll just have to risk doing injustice to the “quiet apostates”.

The greatest vector for spreading a pandemic that there is, especially when considering that those who go on a Hajj go back to oeverwhelmingly Muslim regions, and are transported almost exclusively by charter, and those who go back to largely non-Muslim areas return to concentrated enclaves by choice.

I see two distinctly different reactions in these comments. The realists are better informed and unapologetic. The ostriches keep insisting on believing lies, sad, sad sad.
The problem I see with the Rand quote is that Islamists are not savages. To call them savages is to insult savages. Savages are, basically, people without a culture. Islam is a culture, a culture that is in mortal conflict with our culture (as well as all the other cultures on the planet).
So, as I see it, the poster would better say, “In any conflict between your own culture and an implacable enemy culture, support your own culture.” Not quite as pithy perhaps, but more accurate, in my opinion.
Here’s the way I see this struggle: with Islam you are talking about a culture, basically medieval in its orientation and technological know how, which has, despite reams of literature and philosophy, never developed objective principles, nor shown the slightest interest in such principles, that would allow them to establish tools of self-criticism. In essence, Islam is never wrong and what works is largely irrelevant.
For most of America’s history, it was all about what works. Europe shares this too. Not as much as America but enough for it to have translated itself into a Westernized Israeli culture that questions itself. In a larger philosophical sense, this is what separates a savage from a human. No Bill of Rights, no US-style Constitution can exist without it.
Too many Americans see the Arabs through our eyes rather than the eyes of Arabs. Arabs, Muslims, do not question themselves when it come to Palestine. It is Islamic, and it is theirs, and that’s the end of the story. It is not a question of indigenous peoples. Turks, Albanians, Jews, Egyptians, Druze, Christians, etc. all inhabited that cross roads of empire before WW II. The real issue is not that but of the continuance of the religion that dominated that territory, irrespective of ethnicity, since the 7th century.
Islam, like Christianity, is a reflection of the mental/emotional spirit of its founder.
One founder was intelligent, sane and well-adjusted, considerate and merciful, willing to sacrifice his own pride over the small and petty to build a genuine trust even among enemies…and through constant forgiveness to all, for all, prove the truth and worthiness of his selfless love.
The other was a criminal demon, thin skinned and angry. Prone to constant acts of violence and sexual perversion propelled by an inner self-loathing typical of such mal-adjusted, he foists demand upon lie, torture upon murder, with the total forbiddance of any to rationally question his “right” to lord over the truth, and command the death, of anyone he choses.
One is willingly self-sacrificial, like a parent who’s love of child is so supreme, even certain death will be serenely faced in order to protect the innocent. He is self confident yet humble, to show us the validity of choice. Not to demand, or be forced to follow his way, but to choose. Life and love over hate and revenge.
The other is volatile and ever demanding. Tribute, submission, and strict a obedience to every irrational whim… It is the obsessive/compulsive minutia of enemies, grievances, rage frustration and blame of the Hoarder, the Schizophrenic. The desperate immaturity of the insecure. Anything spoken or done of a free mind unconcerned with his pride, must be destroyed or killed.
One propels the individual to spontaneous and genuine Kindness and Honesty, while the other represses all to a diet of violence and fear. One builds a civilization fearless of “The Truth”, where markets, technology and industry will flourish. The other beats down initiative, and all existence, no matter how materially grand for the few, is in reality hand to mouth through simple crime… raids, loot, and slavery.
Can anyone wonder why one system has become so successful, cooperative and vibrant, because Self Reflection, Redemption and Reformation are not just possible, they are all inevitable?
Or ever imagine the Psychotic seeing the truth? Acknowledging their life of depravity and failure, accepting (with gratitude?) their Delusions of Grand Superiority as so much illusion…welcoming the day they are finally exposed as the naked and hungry vagrants of the Western Worlds Dumpster, ranting incoherently of conspiracy theories, insults and Ultimate Revenge?

Ironically, Ms. Geller’s poster misstates the case. There is nothing “uncivilized” about jihad – violent conquest has been a feature of nearly all civilizations until the last few centuries. (Was the Roman Empire “savage”?)
And there have been many incidents in which civilized men invaded territory inhabited by “savages”, and robbed, enslaved, or murdered them. The Imperial German campaign of deliberate genocide against the Hereros of South-West Africa is one particularly flagrant example. (Savages did such things to each other frequently; civilized men should know better.)
Geller’s paired opposites might better be termed “civility” and “brutality”. (And between Israel and its foes, I know which term applies to which.)

The late Roman republic and the early empire** wasn’t quite the brutal menace popularized in movies. The Roman legions and their auxiliaries were damn brutal in the field. However, once a people finally submitted, the Romans ruled (compared to other powers at the time) with a relatively light touch.
You paid your taxes (which were often less than the previous king or tribal chieftain levied) and swore allegiance to the Republic / Empire, the Roman administrators would leave you alone. Multiple religions were tolerated. I don’t think you could say that about Islam. The eventual ‘Romanization’ of a conquered people meant over time you received rule of law, aqueducts, baths, access to products from the known world, citizenship, and literacy. After the fall of the Western empire, Europe did not receive the same level of literate people until the 20th century.
Islam in its current form doesn’t build, doesn’t civilize.. it destroys. Without the ‘infidel West’ many Islamic countries (i.e. Egypt, the breadbasket of the Romans, now imports 40% of its food) would be in chaos and famine. Islam’s triumph over the world would plunge humanity into a darkness that it may never recover from.

I hold no brief for Islam in its present form – nor in any of its previous forms. I simply object to mischaracterizing it as “savagery” opposed to “civilization”.
The adjective “civilized” has been conflated with “humane”, “ethical”, “constrained by law and morality”. Alas, that has not always or even usually been true for “civilized” people.
Rich Rostrum- I see you have a bad case of “Historical Ignorance” regarding Roman entertainment. I always encourage people to go to Google and type in their phrase of interest, hit the Enter button, and go read the results, but I can see that that effort surpasses you.

Right. Most Americans and many Europeans are opposed to this. Your views are what, neutral?

And…your point is what? The distinction is that we’ve outlawed these behaviors and marginalized leaders who would try to repeat these acts. With Islam, the religion is integrated in to the government, and one only has to quote the texts to argue in favor of war and oppression with no due process or justice as civilized people expect to receive.

Israel has a liberal democracy and due process. Islam doesn’t tolerate Israel and doesn’t even tolerate due process. Those are the root problems of the conflicts with Islam in the middle east and throughout the globe today and since its inception.
I have to admit I don’t follow the fine details of the claims by Geller. Her basic tenet of the threat of the jihadists is evident from the actions in the middle east over the past few months. I’ll give her credit, she ardently promoted this topic when many others had drifted off to other “in the news” topics.

Go back to late 1941, early 1942. Imagine American leaders and newspapers reciting ad-nauseam the meme “Germany is not the enemy. Nazism is”. Imagine the U.S.A. declaring war on “nazism”, not on Germany, not even on nazis, but on nazism. The US participation in WWII would have been a bunch of lawyers and reporters declaring “the majority of Germans are law-abiding peaceful citizens who only mean well”.
