In his first Afterburner since the election, Bill Whittle weighs in. Now that Barack Obama has been reelected president, ObamaCare is certain to remain unchanged. Bill thinks this is the first step towards massive tax increases, socialized health care, and a citizenry more dependent on the federal government than ever. So although the foreseeable future of our great country may seem grim, hear why Bill thinks patriots must continue to fight the good fight for the duration.

That’s the spirit.
A timely and powerful reminder: We are remain in this fight for the duration.
Good men and women will continue to do what is
right, because that is their nature. Often that increases
when the world around them is most devoid of virtue…let’s hope so,
let’s encourage one another that we are in good company. My thanks go
out to all of those good, relentless people.
Thanks Bill. For the duration. That’s the only way. No surrender.
As you point out, we’re living off the capital of the legacy bequeathed to us from former generations, the legacy of capitalism and, perhaps more important, the legacy of the Judeo-Christian faith which is the foundation of all of our laws and institutions in the West.
I’m often relieved that my father, who fought in WWII, died before this socialist madness really took hold. He wouldn’t recognize the “freedoms” he fought for. He wouldn’t recognize the brave new dysfunctional ungrateful parasitic world we now live in.
Kyrie eleison.
Bravo! I agree. I too am in it for the duration. Onward to battle.
Thanks, Bill. I, too, will continue the fight for the duration.
Wow Bill.
I mean WOW! What (highly justified) righteous indignation. This is by far the most “proper” emotional response from those of us who voted for Romney that I have yet to see or read. It’s a call out to our political brothers, wondering why they weren’t “right behind us” (?)
You captured the tone beautifully. The power of your essay Bill, reminded me of the Atomic Bomb essay you penned a good few years ago now. I sure wish the circumstances were different though, sigh.
We’ve conversed before via email — but I’m off of facebook now. Would you be so kind as to email me your current email? Thanks.

Let’s just hope the House is up for the battle. Never surrender.
“Futile the wind to a heart in port”
–Emily Dickinson.
Thanks Bill. I’m with you.
Bill, I agree with you that all the conservatives who sat out the election should be scolded, but they are probably not the ones looking at PJM. After coming out of my post election daze of despair, my thoughts are that people who believe in the benefits of freedom need to become much more serious – serious every minute of the day, as though they were in a war zone.
What do the Communists and Socialists have that freedom loving people haven’t had? I say it’s an AGENDA. Have any wealthy people, intellectuals, scientists, educators, artists, journalists etc., gotten together to discuss how best to explain the benefits of freedom to a troubled world. As the Communists and Socialists know, an organized minority is more powerful than an unorganized majority.
Dear Bill,
My father tells a story about crawling around on the floor with his toy trucks, listening to the grown-ups in his family talk gravely, despairingly, of the election of FDR and the end of our Republic. They knew his socialist policies would destroy this country and send us into the trash-bin of history.
Still might happen, but we’re not dead yet. When my dad played with his toy trucks we hadn’t gone to the Moon or won World War II or defeated the cruel Soviet Union or created the greatest source of information and freedom the world has ever known, the Internet. Ayn Rand hadn’t written Atlas Shrugged and there was no Afterburner to sustain us and give us hope and courage. My grandfather and great-grandfather knew they faced peril but they continued to fight. This is a lost battle in our endless Civil War against socialism, but we haven’t lost the war. We’re going to win. The battles to come will be all the bloodier, but we will win.
Whittle doesn’t understand Obamacare. It was a bail-out of private insurance corporations. They are the beneficiaries of the law. The IRS has become their collection agency. And through the diktat of the Feds – they have millions of newe customers.
Ask yourself — would it be good for your business if tens of millions of new INVOLUNTARY customers were driven to your doors – by the federal government?
Of course it would – how could it not make money.
Obamacare has nothing to do with single-payer. Don’t worry Bill Whittle. Private health insurance corporations are going to make out just swell under Obamacare. They wrote the law!
Mr. Whittle – google “Liz Fowler”. See what you come up with.
Who is the “we” that he says could have stopped this? I wish he’d be more specific.
I don’t know who it is that “could have stopped it” but I would guess they’re not watching “Afterburner.”
I’m in it for the duration, too, and I WAS in it for the duration before anybody had thought of “Tea Party”–the “Tea Party” existed in my family and my heritage and my life starting back in 1944 for me.
So I’m in it for the duration, but I do not and I will accept some generalized accusation that “I could have stopped it and I didn’t.” I do not accept responsibility for the irresponsibility, destructiveness and stupidity of those who voted for Obama in 2008 and again this year.
