Fool Us Once, Mr. President…
In one of his most politically transparent and pandering moves to date, President Obama recently made yet another promise to the Hispanic community. For historical context, this YouTube video chronicles at least seven promises that President Obama has made to the American people, but failed to keep.
Believe me when I say I’m being charitable by assigning the word “failed” to this president. Most conservatives say he out and out lied. But his latest whopper, directed toward Latinos, is a real laugher. The New York Times political blog chronicles a radio interview that aired on left-leaning Univision on Monday. In that interview Mr. Obama tried to reassure Hispanics that he would push an immigration overhaul after the midterm elections. “I’m gonna keep my promise on immigration reform,” Mr. Obama said. And this time we’re to believe he really means it.
Either the president is woefully uninformed or he thinks everyone with brown skin is. In the interview the president tried to deflect frustration over his ignoring of the illegal immigration issue onto Republicans. This Latino will be all too happy to remind the commander-in-chief of what happened with the illegal immigration debate. It started with a Republican, George Bush. He tried to get a so-called comprehensive immigration reform bill through Congress. When the majority of the country cried foul on that “reform,” Republicans, coming up on the 2006 midterms mind you, listened to the people and dropped the issue. During the 2008 campaign, Obama and other Democrats hammered Republicans as being anti-Hispanic and promised immigration reform. Mr. Obama won the White House. Democrats expanded huge majorities in both houses of Congress. And the table was set. They were ready to tackle the illegal immigration problem. The Republicans couldn’t stop them. So Democrats got right to work…passing a nearly trillion dollar stimulus package and conducting a yearlong debate on socializing medicine in the United States. Soooo, all you clear thinking Latinos out there that think we have an illegal and legal immigration problem, save some of that frustration for Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. They set the agenda, but chose to put you in the back of the proverbial legislative bus.
Oh, but the president wasn’t done. “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November second,” Obama said.
Rush Limbaugh calls the president a “man-child.” In this last quote Mr. Obama earns that title. I don’t know where to begin with this juvenile attempt at political blackmail. In essence Mr. Obama is saying, if you don’t turn out and save liberal Democrats from the earned ire of your fellow citizens, he may not be able to get immigration reform done?!?! Please. As mentioned, he could have gotten it done with super-majorities in both houses after 2008. And what is this “friends” and “enemies” business?
Well, with all due respect to the president, I’m an educated Hispanic man. I tend to know who my enemies are. My enemies target Texas dams for destruction to settle a score with a rival drug cartel. My enemies target U.S. law enforcement officers for assassination. They are those that killed an AZ rancher and a man riding a jet ski on Falcon Lake, a body of water that sits on the U.S.-Mexico border. In short, the drug cartels are a menace and the real enemies to all Americans. And how odd, border security is another issue this president chooses to ignore.
President Obama and many liberal Democrats assume that the only issue Latinos care about is getting amnesty for the estimated fifteen to twenty million illegal immigrants in the United States. Obama assumes Hispanics look at these folks as “our” people. And some far-left wing loud mouths and hate groups like La Raza and the Nation of Aztlan do. But an ever-growing number of us in the Latino community get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and see an American. We see an American with a rich culture and language to offer our fellow citizens that will enhance the fabric of America. We recognize that our forefathers fled nations that fell far short in founding a government of, by, and for the people. And a majority of Latinos love and respect the United States and its laws. Mr. Obama wants Hispanics to vote against their “enemies”? If that’s how he wants to play it, fine with me. But be careful, Mr. President. You run the risk of educated Hispanics taking another look at you, a man who has deceived Latinos on more than one occasion. We may see any one of the following:
-Your job-killing policies.
-Your spending our children into mountains of debt.
-Your killing off of the best medical system in the world.
-Your nationalizing of whole industries.
-Your practice of picking winners and losers in business.
-Your intentional neglect of Fannie and Freddie in your so-called financial reform bill.
-Your placing of legal/illegal immigration reform on the back burner.
And after a careful review of your broken promises and your not-so-stellar two-year record, Hispanics may decide that it’s you who is the enemy, President Obama.

“President Obama and many liberal Democrats assume that the only issue Latinos care about is getting amnesty for the estimated fifteen to twenty million illegal immigrants in the United States. He assumes Hispanics look at these folks as “OUR” people.”
That’s because to them, “you all look the same”.
And, Mr. Salcedo, for “turning your back on your race” you will earn their ire.
As for the rest of us, thank you for reminding everyone that to be Hispanic is not to be bamboozled by cheap campaign rhetoric and empty promises, of trying to turn citizen against citizen simply to cultivate an alleged block vote.
“Either the President is woefully uninformed or he thinks everyone with brown skin is.”
It isn’t about brown skin.
He wouldn’t know what to do if he wasn’t lying about something, putting somebody down, or threatening somebody.
What would they have to offer if they couldn’t lie?
Name one conservative politician who doesn’t lie.
Ahh, yes, the old “they did it tooooooooooo!” defense.
Works wonderfully… up till about the third grade. After that, it’s a sign of desperation.
No. The repubs did it first and have excelled at it but when a dem returns the favor – the repubs go crying that the dems aren’t playing fair. Sorry but turn around is fair play and when you stand up to your own politicians, pundits and talking heads and tell them to cut the lies and to walk the walk instead of just running their mouths – maybe you’ll get a little respect from the rest of us. For every lie you lay at a democrat’s feet, a half dozen can be laid at the feet of a repub or tea partier. Problem is – you won’t hear the truth at Fox, unfair and distorted. You don’t need proof from any of us here – do your own research – just pick one topic. How about family values and morals? How many repubs demanded that Clinton resign but then pulled the same stunt and refused to resign. How about at least 4 well publicized cases in the last two years. Even King Newt was cheating on his wife while he was condemning Clinton and told her that he could do what he wanted – it was what he said that was important. Yeah Right! Republican = liars and hypocrites.
What was the unemployment rate when Nancy Pelosi took over the speaker’s gavel in 2006?
What is it now?
What was the national debt when Harry Reid took over the Senate in 2006?
What is it now?
Cheryl,
I am growing very weary of your tired talking points and sinfully narrow point of view. The original poster was biased towards Republicans being saints and Democrats being sinners. You are futiley trying to state that Democrats are saints and Republicans are sinners. Where you cross the line is your assuming that the Tea Party is linked to the Republicans.
Republicans and the Tea Party share very, very few ideals. Limited government. The federal government presenting us in a good light to foreign nations.
Things the established Republicans don’t stand for but the Tea Party does? Standing strong for our allies. Giving the death glare to those who oppose us. Being unafraid to say that something is wrong and finding a way to fix it.
My opinion about the two established parties? I don’t care about either of them. Would you like to know why?
Because each political party is nothing more than a machine churning out the “latest and greatest”. There is no room for reflection, individual thought, or even comprehension. It has become a farce to consider that either party has had a revolutionary idea THAT IS CONSTITUTIONALLY RELEVANT AND APPLICABLE for around the past 60 years.
Or to put it another way: Delete both political parties. Do not put the Tea Party in its place. We should have no political parties whatsoever. If we followed through with this concept several things would immediately improve:
1) Unless the person running for office could afford it, there would be no one able to “bail them out” by pulling out of a huge bank account that could probably pay off the interest on our national debt.
2) The screening process for candidates on any level would be clear and coherent. Rather than worrying about the red herring of party affiliation, voters could instead focus on the person’s insights and ideas.
3) Alliances in Congress would be much easier to figure out and follow, from both the media’s stand point and the voter’s stand point. If Bobby A. worked out a side deal with Zack T., whose constituents want him out of office for doing terrible, then Bobby A.’s constituents would either demand Bobby A. stops working with him or threaten to vote him out. If Cassandra F. feels that it would be in her interest to help bobby A., then Cassandra F. may improve her standings with her constituents while improving state-to-state relationships between their respective states.
Number 3 is a fairly convoluted idea, but if instituted would be very efficient at cleaning out the people who should not represent their people.
That’s all I have for now. I hope I put a spark in someone’s imagination.

You obviously do not understand the History of your Democratic. Your first president, Thomas Jefferson, attained by spreading lies, back stabbing, and treason. He had been Vice-President, while paying and providing confidential information to a ghost writer. The rot in your party has just increased over the years. I lived in Chicago when Richard J Daley produced “The Grave Yard Vote,” for Kennedy, and his stolen election. By What Ever Means Necessary. Where is Obama from . . . Never Waste A Crisis!
You can’t.
Rand Paul
Wrong.
Link or slink.
George W Bush.
Wrong again.
Prove it, or shut up.
Paul Ryan. Jim DeMint.
Oh, this’ll make your head explode: Sarah Palin. With all the scrutiny she gets, they have yet to catch her in a real, hand-in-the-cookie-jar lie.
Just plain crazy.
Wait, I was wrong . . . Joe Miller.
Wait, I was wrong about being wrong . . .
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/26/joe-miller-documents-i-lied_n_774472.html
You got my vote Joe. You’re a heckuva guy! They teach you that at the Point?
Sensei? More like Grasshopper. You have much to learn. You must let go of the hate before you can grow as a person…
Save your advice for your grandkids. On second thought, don’t. They’re our future, you know. I’d hate to see it squandered on willful ignorance.
Again, loudmouth….you make the assertion, YOU provide the proof.
This one is for the AF_Vet of the almost real military.
Paul Ryan claimed “The proposed ‘cap-and-trade’ scheme will tax energy consumption from transportation to food and electricity, costing taxpayers an average $3,000 a year” He lied.
Jim Demint said he didn’t want healthcare to be Obama’s Waterloo. He lied.
George Bush? Please. Let’s go to the video tape
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm73wOuPL60
Rand Paul said ” “We now have a President who apologizes for our greatness.”" He lied. Show me the apology. You can’t
Sarah Palin? There are so many. “Thanks but no thanks to that bridge to nowhere.” is a classic. I like this one. After the Gulf oil spill she said, “”[S]ee now why we push’drill, baby, drill’of known reserves&promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?”‘ But in the campaign she said, “And we will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that we have underground, including off-shore.”
Now, go log on to KochSuckers.com and drag out your talking points.
“The proposed ‘cap-and-trade’ scheme will tax energy consumption from transportation to food and electricity, costing taxpayers an average $3,000 a year” He lied.
How is that a ‘lie?’
Jim Demint said he didn’t want healthcare to be Obama’s Waterloo. He lied.
Again, you saying it’s a lie doesn’t make it one.
George Bush? Please. Let’s go to the video tape
Again, what ‘lie?’
“Rand Paul said ” “We now have a President who apologizes for our greatness.”” He lied. Show me the apology. You can’t
Now YOU’RE lying. Take your pick, genius:
http://www.bing.com/search?q=obama+apologizes+for+greatness&form=QBLH&qs=n&sk=
I just did.
Sarah Palin? There are so many. “Thanks but no thanks to that bridge to nowhere.” is a classic.
So, voting against the Bridge to Nowhere counts as a ‘lie’? Sure, she was for it, before she was Governor…and then changed her mind. But changing one’s mind is not a ‘lie.’ And if one changes their mind, isn’t good that they come down on the right side of the issue? Try again.
“I like this one.
Uhhh, you realize eduring the campaign, her job was to push McCain’s platform? That isn’t a lie, dingleberry. Keep trying.
By the way, she is still for offshore drilling, but, whatever. She just thinks we don’t need to be forced by enviro-whackos to go so far offshore that we’re deep-water drilling.
You suck with information.
Through all the reassuring rhetoric, it seems that Salcedo wants amnesty….the sooner the better. Let me be absolutely clear: this great country should only allow a trickle of people to come from “failed states:” that means most of latin america. Most of Latin America is in a pre-capitalist evolutionary condition.
My advice to Mr. Salcedo is to return to his country of origin (or his family’s country of origin) and lead a revolution……..similar to the American Revolution….with all of its heroic sacrifices.
I prefer to live in the greatest civilization in human history: the United States of America………….NOT the Balkans.
“it seems that Salcedo wants amnesty….the sooner the better”
Which areticle were YOU reading?
One thing the Malkinites and the Dem’s have in common, they think Mexicans are worthless, lazy seekers of handouts. Mexicans work hard, live in families and start small businesses. They should be Republicans, and given the chance they will be.We need to stress assimilation, NO dual citizenship, NO citizenship without a decent command of English. We can’t let the democrats do to the Mexicans what they’ve done to the Blacks.
Boy, I sure like that big brush you are painting us all with. Sounds a lot like ‘you all look the same to me’ or ‘all________(fill in the blank) are lazy’ or any of the million bigoted remarks all minorities are sick and tired of hearing. You know the old saying – two wrongs don’t make a right – that goes for reverse discrimination also. The Democratic party may not be perfect but they have always stood for the everyone, but especially the middle class and the underdog. The republicans only stand for the rich. Cuz, if you ain’t got money – you aren’t worth their time or effort.
So, which is it, Cheryl? Are we the Party of the rich, or the Party of the uneducated rubes in flyover land. We can’t be both.
You have bought into a lie.
By the way, in the last election, the rich voted for the Jackasses. The middle-class voted for the Elephants.
You’re the party of the rich. And the rich use their money to conscript the loyalty of the ignorant, cowardly rubes.

Hope that helped.
That’s a very good description of Democrats!
How about Raese in West Virginia? He fits the bill for both. That would be because he earned his millions the old fashioned way – he inherited it. He either can’t pronounce anyone’s name or he thinks he is a comedian. Emphasis on thinks there. For someone with a name that could be mispronounced easily – he sure has some gaul screwing up other people’s names. His ego definitely gets in the way too.
I’m gobsmacked to hear a President of the United States refer to those who oppose him and his socialist policies as “enemies.” His fellow countrymen are enemies now if they don’t fall in lockstep with this self-appointed potentate’s policies? This is probably the most frightening thing I’ve heard come from his (usually lying) lips. He has declared war on a segment of the population of America that opposes his politics. Astounding.
Excuse me!!!!!!!! We just went through 8 years of Bush and his minions calling everyone who didn’t agree with them un-American and saying !#(&$ like ‘You’re either with us or against us’. Boy, you people have some damn short memories. Maybe you should get an alzheimer’s test asap. Too bad your republican health insurance won’t cover the drugs you’ll need.
Nope, no excusing you for distorting reality over and over again. You’ve watched one too many episodes of the Ed Schultz Show…
For someone accusing another person of Alzheimer’s, you should really look in a mirror. The entire reason behind Bush saying that was….
*drumroll please..*
9/11!!!!!!
For someone who knows historical fact you really are terrible at remembering that THREE THOUSAND CIVILIANS died on September 11, 2001. That was an ACT OF WAR. The federal government’s ability, as ennumerated in the Constitution, is to defend the people of the United States against ALL enemies. The Sailor’s Creed:
“I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”
So the military is sworn into defending the same document that enabled George W. Bush to legitimately wage war. Once our nation geared up for war it became every citizen’s duty to support the war effort.
Oh, and I’m predicting what your response will be, so here’s the answer to the typical “un-American” belief in free speech:
Do you want to protest the government?
Do you want to say what you please when you please?
Then support the government in times of war. Unlike the peace-time scenario, in war we, as a nation, are in conflict with someone else. If you decide you disagree with what the government is doing, wait until after the smoke is cleared.
It’s called “survival” and “self-preservation”.
If you, and others like you, choose to cut off the fighting arm of the government then you will be unable to voice your free speech any more. If we cannot fight a war together against a foreign enemy then we will be ruled by that foreign enemy.
Again, looking into the history books…The last “victor” in a war who let the ruled do what they pleased was the Roman Empire.
WW1 – Germany paid damages to the victors. The Germans were forbidden from maintaining a “threatening” military.
WW2 – Japan was forbidden from having anything more than a Self-Defense Force. Germany was divided into two countries.
Iraq / Afghanistan War – Iraq, already in internal conflict between the Shi’a and Sunni Muslims, was further divided by the UN’s war (which we started). All of the Western world was oblivious to the politics involved in the Middle East. Even Winston Churchill, before WW1, was oblivious. He, along with the British Empire, caused most of the chaos in the Middle East by forcibly drawing lines and appointing “advisors”. Both of these “interventions” ignored tribal rules, tribal boundaries, and tribal customs. Hostilities grew because people of different religious beliefs and tolerances were forced to live within close proximity of each other. It wasn’t a “righteous coming together”. It was an authoritarian order. The finale to this? Everyone goes homes, at different intervals, leaving the entire Middle East in complete disarray and without a balance of power.
So what did the Roman Empire do that was so special and different?
1) Hold the Roman Republic as the highest governmental entity.
2) Accept that Christianity is a religion that everyone WILL tolerate, regardless of personal religious views.
3) Pay tribute to the Roman Republic.
…
That’s it. They didn’t demand that the conquered reform their government. They didn’t demand that everyone become Christian. They didn’t demand that Greek Orthodox and Orthodox Jews live together in absolute harmony. They left the conquered to their own devices, so long as it didn’t damage the Republic.
In modern political terms, they were MODERATES. They allowed individual liberty (leftist views) without forcing religious views (rightist views).
Our government is not the same as the Roman Republic. It has the capability to become moderate and do as it is required without harming its citizens.
But We, the People, cannot reform the government and make it better if we choose to harm ourselves in the face of foreign adversity. Fight together now, then discuss what we should do differently later.
Zamir
Zamir,
You said: “For someone who knows historical fact you really are terrible at remembering that THREE THOUSAND CIVILIANS died on September 11, 2001. That was an ACT OF WAR. The federal government’s ability, as ennumerated in the Constitution, is to defend the people of the United States against ALL enemies. ”
No – it was an ACT OF TERRORISM. Just like Oklahoma but there was no outside source to blame that on. There is a difference. Using the word war for everything in an attempt to make events or actions appear bigger than they are/were just takes the power out of the word. The truth is that calling it and act of War – denigrates the reality that occurred. It did terrorize us for a short while – but in truth it pissed us off even more. In those days – we were all Americans (not republicans or democrats) and we were in it together. But then the Bush power structure decided to keep the fear alive and try to use it for their own ends. Even now – the Cheney’s keep trying to create a false sense of fear in an effort to gain something for themselves.
We lost 3000* that day but what about the thousands who have died in Iraq? I bet a few Iraqi’s think we are terrorists. You are probably going to try and tell me that we were defending ourselves in Iraq – even though we were the aggressors and Iraq had not attacked us. They just had the misfortune of being on Bush’s list (which was probably written by Rumsfeld and Cheney). He should have read his father’s book – he might have learned something.
Cheryl – could you provide some evidence for your claim that ‘Bush and his minions’calling everyone who didn’t agree with them ‘unAmerican’.
You have a pattern of trying to reject a criticism of the Democratic Party by using the ‘tu quoque’ tactic of saying ‘well, it’s OK because the GOP have done the same thing’. That’s hardly a constructive argument. If something is, as you claim, wrong for the GOP to do, then why do you support the Democrats doing it?
Second, the claims that the Democrats are the ‘party of the middle class and the poor’ and the GOP is the ‘party of the rich’ is unsubstantiated by the facts. Democratic support is heavily found within the professional class of the public service and academia and the Hollywood and Wall Street (who’ve given millions to them); among public sector unions (which are elitist), and among identity groups – ethnic and sexual. I’ll comment that defining people within collectivist identity groups is the antithesis of ‘being American’ which is all about individual freedom. That is, the Democratic Party has become an elitist party focused on power to special interest groups.
GOP support is found within the middle class small businessman, farms, rural and above all, within those who promote individual freedom rather than identity politics.
Your list of ‘failed policies’ is childish and empty of facts or reasoning. How is, for example, Guantanamo a ‘failed policy’; what would you advise to be done? How is war against Islamic fascism a ‘failed policy’ or do you support Islamic fascism? Why do you support increased taxes? Don’t you realize that if people don’t have the money to support their businesses, then, no jobs are available? Do you seriously think that the govt should provide jobs?
Quote:

Guantanamo is a failed policy because 1. the majority of the the prisoners there were/are not ‘guilty’ of what they were put there for. There are still innocent men there because they are now stigmatized and can’t be sent back to their countries. 2. It was created without and exit strategy. 3. It was an end run around the Geneva Convention and our Constitution. 4. It has now set a precedent for what other countries can now do to our citizens and soldiers. 5. Because of the treatment of innocent men (men who were in the wrong place at the wrong time or were turned in falsely so someone could collect a bounty) – it may have radicalized some of them.
What is Islamic Fascism? Is it like Christian Fascism? Tell me – what are your plans for the Christian Fascists?
What part of greater good don’t you get? Think about that the next time you take a freeway to go somewhere? Think about where your electricity comes from. Mine comes from dams and a nuclear plant where all or most of them were paid for by taxes. Where does your water come from? Mine comes from CAP – mostly paid for by tax dollars. Stop going to those national parks – they are funded by tax dollars. I don’t mind paying my fair share but I sure get pissed when others don’t. You pay sales tax when you go into Walmart or Cabella’s for example but they get to keep that money in their coffers because they have hoodwinked some idiot politician into believing they will give out more jobs. They don’t ever live up to their promises and the jobs they provide are low wage part time jobs with no benefits. In fact Walmart got nailed for telling its employees to go get food stamps. You want to see who’s not paying taxes and ripping us all off?? Read Free Lunch and I promise you will lose yours. BOA paid no taxes last year, neither did GE. They weren’t the only ones benefitting from the golden goose called the Middle Class. A ton more fit that bill.
I listened to his speech to the Latinos…lmao,,,that guy really wants to be king, eh? lmao When do the impeachment proceedings begin? There is a lunatic in the oval office, for God’s sake. The military has the constitutional right to remove a president who is an enemy to the nation. I am waiting for that to happen. I rest peacefully as I know that out of anarchy our American leader will rise.
Yep that’s the repub reply to all democrats they don’t like ‘impeach them’. He was voted in by a MAJORITY. Live with it. We had to live through the false presidency of Bush the fraud. If you like military dictatorships – move to Pakistan or N. Korea – we don’t need your treason here. This is a democracy – people discuss, they argue they debate and they VOTE. When a MAJORITY votes for someone – that doesn’t mean the folks who didn’t vote for him get to pull out there guns and take over. You get to live with it, work with it and learn how to get along – just like you expect others to do. When you go down the path your preaching – you get anarchy and war. No one wins that game.
Exactly, Cheryl. That why when the Demonrat contingent in the House is reduced to a corporal’s guard next Tuesday, you’re going to have to learn to live with, instead of indulging in street theatre, waving Mexican flags and sceaming “Viva Aztlan!”.
What majority, the vote for Obama was 52% and with a turnout of 56.8% this means that 29.6% of those eligible to vote elected him (hardly a majority), many Republicans sat out the last election, but they are not this time and will not in 2012 either, I know I was one that did not vote but did Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. the first day I was able to early vote and the polling place was packed with the parking lot overflowing!
Sorry but many faces you currently see in the congress and senate will be gone in January! There are those pundits that predict that this years election will be more like 1894 than 1994 when the Republican swept the Democrats out of both the House and Senate by huge margins!
If Latinos are smart why would they let Obama buy them off cheap with promises of citizenship?
Mathematically it doesn’t make sense; that Hispanics living in the USA illegally would be willing to give up all of their (known and hidden) benefits, freebies and non-taxable income they receive in exchange for citizenship which would confiscate all of it, plus make them sub-servant to Obama and his cronies.
As an educated gentleman Mr. Salcedo writes as if Obama’s actions are unexpected and/or that he (Latinos) are having trouble understanding what Obama is doing.
Do a google for Muslim, Islam and Black Liberation Theology for an exhaustive mechanical diagram illustrating every breath Obama takes.
The short answer is that he is doing exactly what he said he would.. Redistribution of wealth, otherwise known as taking from you and giving to them – as long as them are black.
Mr. Salcedo to Obama America, Caucasians and Jews don’t count. Why would any Latino think that he would consider them to be black enough to make a special exception of his life-long hatreds for their causes and interests?
Where were you when the republicans were redistributing the wealth into the pockets of rich???? You like being poor and watching “The lives of the Rich and Famous’ on tv? Get a clue. The republicans haven’t done anything for you and won’t until you have a few million in the bank. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it again – in the last 40 years ALL Americans were better off economically under Democrats than Republicans. You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. Learn the truth and it will set you free.
Here’s a thought: Republicans pick up 25-25 seats in the House. Half a dozen in the Senate. All because Democrats quietly come out to vote, rejecting the ubiquitous manipulations of Fox News and supporting the investment in change rather than reverting to the failed policies and unilateral ideology of the past.
Wanna bet money on that? I could use a few extra bucks to pay the new Obama taxes that are coming.
The current non-partisan Cook Political Report says:
I’ll gladly take your money if you wanna put it where your mouth is on your prediction of 25-35.
You’re on. Send your $100 to PO Box 2010, Springfield, Ohio 45503
I know this may be hard for a Democrat to understand, but the votes haven’t been cast yet. Let’s wait until after Election Day to decide who won, hmmm?
Oh, and I need a name to make the check out to.
I know this is hard for a conservative to understand, but I need your wager money in escrow. Can’t trust you to pay off your loss. Cash is fine.
You can set up the escrow account, then… and pay all required fees, since you’re the one insisting on it.
Oh, and I am just a poor working slob, not a rich Democrat like you, Mr. Kerry, Mr. Gore, or Mr. Soros. So let’s just make it $10. After all, I pay taxes, not receive them.
Waiting, Mr. Sensei… or whatever your name is today. You demanded an escrow account, but apparently you haven’t set one up yet… does this mean you don’t intend to follow through?
Still waiting… and your name change to Dr Really didn’t fool me.
Guess you have no intention of following through on the bet. That’s about what I expected from a leftoid troll.
You’d better come up with an escrow account soon, Your Sensei… I am still willing to go through with the bet (at the $10 level), if you are…
Still waiting…
Set up an escrow account for your measly $10? You have my PO BoX. Send it. If not, keep your $10. It’s a nice little nest egg for your retirement. Pity that your entire life’s hard work got stolen from you in 20 months by those evil Democrats cutting your taxes. Maybe if you’d been a bit more educated and imaginative and innovative and entrepreneurial and ambitious you’d have more than $10 to serve s testament to your principles.
From a notorious lefty source, MSNBC, they’re predicting 60+ seats.
YOU LOSE THE BET.
If you intend to pay off (which I doubt), click the link in my name and use the “contact” form on my blog to email me to arrange payment. I’m not foolish enough to put my address out on the internet for everyone to see.
Name one “failed policy” for which the GOP is responsible. Obama keeps saying “…we can’t return to the failed policies of the past eight years…” or some variant thereof without EVER stating a single policy that he considers to have failed. I’m still waiting.
1. Repeal of the Glass-Steagal act.
2. Tax rebates that decimated our surplus
3. Two wars that helped create a deficit and killed thousand of innocent people
3. Tax cuts that grew the deficit even more
4. The patriot act
5. Guantanamo
6. Torture
7. Rendition
8. Cheney’s back room deals to create energy policy that benefits the big oil and gas companies and screws the rest of us.
You want me to go on?
Now you’ve sent him to the stool in the corner with the cone hat.
Obama’s already wearing dunce cap. No wonder you and Cheryl are so defensive…
So why is it that these supposedly failed policies were not “undone” by a Democratic president with a Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate? Obama specifically promised to close down Guantanamo within a year of his inauguration. Why hasn’t that happened? What happened to those trials of Guantanamo detainees in the United States? What happened to Obama’s disgust with Predator attacks, given that he has actually increased them? What about the hypocrisy of his sneering at the surge in Iraq, then taking the credit for its success? And then having a surge of his own in Afghanistan?
By the way, you’ve got two items with the number 3 in your list.
1. “Repeal of the Glass-Steagal act.”
Would that be the Glass-Steagall act that was repealed in 1999, signed by Clinton, and before Bush 43 took office? Yeah….fail for you, dumbass.
2. “Tax rebates that decimated our surplus”
You mean the surplus that never really existed, but was instead merely a projected surplus? Yeah…fail again.
3. “Two wars that helped create a deficit and killed thousand of innocent people”
Which wars have ever NOT run a deficit? And as for the ‘innocent people’ killed, how is that Bush’s fault, and not the jihadis’?
3. “Tax cuts that grew the deficit even more”
I think you mean the tax cuts that caused record revenues for the government? By the way, the government does not have a RIGHT to OUR paychecks–that’s our money they’re taking! Yeah…again, you suck with information, skippy.
4. “The patriot act”
The Patriot ACt that was passed with overwhelming Democrat support, and Obama supports to this day? You’re really not very good at this debating thing, are you?
5. “Guantanamo”
Which is still open, and Obama has NO clue as to how to close it.
6. “Torture”
Yeah…listening to clueless moonbats like you can really cruel and unusual. But please offer up real examples.
7. “Rendition”
Which has been not only continued by Obama, but increased. Try again Dr. Hawking…
8. “Cheney’s back room deals to create energy policy that benefits the big oil and gas companies and screws the rest of us.”
I’m sure this makes sense when you post it on HuffPo and DKos, but not in rational places…
“You want me to go on?”
Please do…making you look like an idiot, while extremely easy, is also great fun.
Teach this Sensei- When Bush took over in 2000, the dot.com industry bubble had already popped, sending NASDAC into a tail spin. This was followed by the Enron and WorldCom curruption trials and the dissolving of Anderson Consulting. All causing major economic tremors. As if those weren’t enough, the Muslim terrorists ripped at the heart of the US economic engine by destroying the World Trade Center. At this point, it was thought that it would take years for the US economy to recover.
Instead, Bush pulled the country together, made major tax cuts (Across the board), and within a year the US economy was booming again. Here is the interesting thing “Sensei”, you and your Dem buddies, keep repeating the bull about how terrible the 8 years of Bush were. How quickly you forget that for the most part, the US economy was booming durning the Bush years. Unemployment in my state was “Under” 2.0%. Please explain to me “Sensei” how that is a bad thing?
You are a fool who believes that you can spend your way out of debt. You probably believe the Dems are telling the truth when the talk about how much they care about education and the children. Who controls our public schools? Liberals. They have ruled over public education since the 60′s, and during that time, public education has gone in one direction–down.
Abunai Sensei.
Don’t debate he/she/it. It’s the skeez/carol/moho/alice/wr jacka$$ under another name. Mock the damn troll, don’t feed it.
You’re kinda cute, Miss Through. I see you’ve stopped making those silly assertions. Good. You’re learning. Thank your sensei.
Hard to make any assertion about your gender conflict right now. It isn’t apparent in your latest persona, like your last, which gender is currently in the driver’s seat. Perhaps a compromise has been reached, though given that your ‘manly man’ personae are rather a bit too, metrosexual shall we say?, old Alice will have no problem kicking their a$$es and surfacing rather frequently.
What is it you say elsewhere? Wash, rinse, repeat wasn’t it skeez/alice/moho/carol/wr/ys? (Going to have to go with just the first letter in the abbreviation). Can’t wash out your stupid, s/a/m/c/w/y. Too well ground in and trips you up every time.
Stop obsessing on people’s driver’s seats.
BTW, JPT, you didn’t deliver on your assignment. You were supposed to tell me why middle-aged white conservative men insist on hitting women.
Take your time, I can look to these Tea Baggers for the answer while you cypher on it:

The few, the proud, the maniacal cowards.
I’m just curious. Which Troll are you? There are a few that pop through here and pontificate on the old “we should through all the money in a hat and pass it out in a manner that I choose” line and cut and paste talking points out of KOS. Which one are you? Miriam? Alice? Betty?
I swear there trolls never have any thing new or any meaningful input. Rather than be creative they just change their name and spout the same stuff. It allows them to completely avoid the topic of the original post. There trolls just run through their litany of talking points, change their name and start over at the top of the list..
Sensei (or whatever) the topics here were narrow and specific. 1. Obama says he really means it when he NOW promises to do something he promised to do 2 years ago (when he had a majority in both houses). 2. Obama assumes that ALL Hispanics are in favor of an unregulated southern border. and 3. Obama considered his political opponents to be “enemies” who are to be “punished”. Your reasoned response to these topics? BUSH SUX! Halliburton! Gitmo!
I really wish we had to register a single name for PJM.
You need to burn those revisionist history books you are reading. George Bush took a surplus and turned it into a deficit. Those tax cuts you are so proud of are costing us trillions of dollars and increasing the deficit. In the last 40 years – ALL Americans did better under Democratic leadership than Republican leadership, where only the rich got richer and the rest of us got poorer. While jobs are bad now – the truth is that more private sector jobs were created in the first 8 months of 2010 than in the 8 years of Bush. The republican mess that started in 94 and accelerated under Bush can’t be cleaned up in two years. Just like losing weight – it took years to gain it – it takes years to lose it and it isn’t fun during the process. Don’t get me started on the 35% tax rate for businesses. Most of those large businesses like BOA and GE paid no taxes – zilch, nada, nothing. You pay more taxes than they do. If you all want those tax rates lowered then close the loopholes and make those businesses pay their fair share.
> George Bush took a surplus and turned it into a deficit.
No president controls the budget — that is the House. US Constitution, Article One: “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes…to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States…No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law…” And who controlled the House after 2006? Democrats.
> Those tax cuts you are so proud of are costing us trillions of dollars and increasing the deficit.
Tax cuts don’t “cost” anything. The money belongs to the people. Not the government. Tax cuts merely permit the people to retain THEIR OWN MONEY.
> In the last 40 years – ALL Americans did better under Democratic leadership than Republican leadership, where only the rich got richer and the rest of us got poorer.
Wrong. Even the poorest today live FAR better than the poor did 40 years ago.
> While jobs are bad now – the truth is that more private sector jobs were created in the first 8 months of 2010 than in the 8 years of Bush.
Really? Post the statistics and their source. Prove it. You cannot.
> Most of those large businesses like BOA and GE paid no taxes – zilch, nada, nothing.
Yeah. And what two companies have benefited massively from Democrats controlling Congress for the past 4 years? In any case — corporate income taxes are actually taxes on consumers of the goods and services of companies because corporate taxes are simply added to the cost of those goods and services and passed through to the consumers. Corporate taxes are an indirect tax on everyone else.
The trolls have certainly come out from under their bridges today — guess the Soros pizza money got paid out.
Nice to see you’re here representing the other side – paid Koch suckers – parroting debunked defenses of the Bush debacle.
1. According to the BLS website, there were 111,634,000 Americans employed in the private sector at the start of George W. Bush’s first term, in January 2001. Eight years later, in January 2009, there were 110,961,000 Americans employed in the private sector. So the United States lost 673,000 private-sector jobs on Bush’s watch.
Private-sector employment in January 2010 was 107,123,000, a number that grew to 107,970,000 by September 2010. That works out to be 847,000 jobs created.

Tax cuts cost everyone who pays taxes. If you use the freeway, national parks, electricity, water and gas then you benefit from the combined taxes paid by all of us. If you have family on Medicare or receiving Social Security or in the Military – you benefit from all of us paying taxes. When some don’t pay their fair share – we all lose. Either things don’t get done or the rest of us have to pick up the tab. The first people to whine about government not getting there faster or doing something to fix whatever is bothering them – are the first to whine about the taxes they pay. AZ is a Republican state and whine huge about taxes and big government – but look who is whining (republican governor and legislators) because they don’t think the Federal Government is hopping high enough and fast enough about what they perceive is a huge border issue. The governor didn’t need the president to call in the national guard. She could’ve done it herself – but then she would have had to pay for it out of her budget.
You seem to have forgot about an entire year, Cheryl. The numbers you posted show a net job loss of 2,991,000 since Obama took office. Did you really think no one would notice? Who is paying what <a href="Share of Total Federal Tax Liabilities?

I don’t think there is enough polarization in the Country. The people that pay the bills (taxes) should have more input than the people that waste tax money ( Medicaid, WIC SCHIP SSI, public housing, food stamps and other programs) This is before we talk about any benefits for illegal aliens. The people that are paying owe nothing to the leaches and it is time to require some financial input from the leaches.
I bet you go to church every Sunday and consider yourself a good Christian. What a hypocrite. First off – we all pay into Social Security so don’t be dissing the folks who are collecting now. As to the other items – you need to do more research. Here in AZ most State government workers can collect food stamps because the cheap republican electorate keeps voting in cheap republican politicians who refuse to pay state workers a living wage or as in this year, cut their wages even more, while having no problem putting their requests for pay increases on every ballot. I sure hope that you will soon have the opportunity to walk in the shoes of some of the folks you are condemning. It couldn’t happen to a nicer person.
Why do you assume that he is Christian? This is just an example of why the Left always fails. Lefties just can’t get past (or even acknowledge) their biases and their obsession with divisive identity politics.
“we all pay into Social Security so don’t be dissing the folks who are collecting now.”
Yo genius, did you get the “we all pay into Social Security” fact the same place you got that “surplus” myth?
The Hispanics only need to look at the Blacks in America to see what policies from the liberals and Democrats have done to them. Unbelievable poverty, crime, especially black on black crime, drugs, and such poor performance in school that entire generations are being lost. I recently read that blacks in certain areas are able to comprehend at only an 8th grade level.
The Civil War freed the physical slaves, but the Democrats, after over 40 years of coddling and lying to the blacks (with the help of Jesse Jackson, Charlie Rangel, and Al Sharpton) have created economic slaves. At least the ones who were lucky enough to be born. How many black and minority children have not lived to see the light of day thanks to the strong “free choice” ideals that the Eugenicists, oops, sorry, Democrats, support?
If the Hispanics continue to blindly support the Democrats (and Obama) they will be in the same boat instead of being an important part of American society.
Funny stuff from the Libtards. As usual the clear thinking Americans outnumber the Libtards by about 10-2. I’ll take that advantage to the voting booth every time.
there are none so blind as those who will not see

Well! it is now official, Obama is not the president of 60% of the country, from his own lips he stated that those who oppose him are his enemy. So when one state “He ain’t my President” it is a statement of fact, proven by the utterences of Obama himself. I for one am glad he cleared this up.
So if I oppose him, that makes me his enemy? Excellent! Now I can stop paying taxes to fund his paycheck! Maybe I’ll gather together the rest of the 60% and form our own nation, which will by design be able to surpass ‘His’ America. Not to mention we won’t have to worry about entitlement programs!
Sign me up as a citizen for this new, Obama-less country!
It’s particularly annoying that lib trolls like Cheryl come to PJM to distract the conversation with a laundry list of whinning and never comments a thing about Mr Salcedo’s post.
I think that the Latino discovery that Obama is a pandering oppertunist is pretty routine as for most Americans. He is the quintessential political animal. He sees immigration as he does so many other issues. As a useful wedge issue. His abuse of Arizona is exhibit A. Coming from Chicago politics, as a Black man whose entire mentorship was encased within the rubric of racialism on the left, his main interest is to try and capture a political constiuency.
This is why he fans the flames of divisivness here in Arizona – both rhetorically and further by directing Holder and DOJ to frame the debate as a matter of civil and human rights through their court assaults. Rather than as a matter of national policy, concerning first most our economic needs at home, and our foreign policy needs and obligations in the hemisphere.
I often disagreed with the Bush administrations for their version of reform, but at least it was an honest attempt to form and deliver policy. I don’t believe Obama has either that focus or sincerity.
As a conservative I have believed that NAFTA and free trade, when fair, has been a vital ingredient in our shared prosperity. But the free flow of capital and commerce is very different than the free flow of LABOR. People are a lot more complicated than TV’s or currency.
The quasi open border as far as Latino immigration has proved the tipping point for Americans on the immigration debate. And I am sorry Cris Salcedo, but with all due respect, Latino’s have really spoiled it for everyone right now because of the sheer magnitude of their chain migration since ’86.
There really isn’t much to debate. And Americans are very angry that both sides can’t put their selfish political adgenda aside and solve this.
Newt Gingrich is absolutely right that we can easily track those who apply for guest visas and stop the ‘into the shadows’ overstays that precipitate illegal entry. Ditto the ruse that employers can’t determine whose working under the egis of stolen idenities. Its just a matter of political will and priority.
The truth is less about racism on the white side of this argument and more about the comfortable and lucrative status quo for Latinos that had generously built up prior to 9/11 after the failure of Simpson Mazzuli in ’86. And that includes the billions countries to the south have come to depend on from their nationals working here.
The sad fact is that all these elements have been poisoning relations between Latino’s and the rest of America. Thus the harder the leftist leaning self-appointed Latino special interest groups push the more reactionary and closed minded – and heated – and futile political solutions become. And the more infuriating ill advised finger pointing from the likes of Caulderon when addressing our congress. Not helpful.
Obama’s tactics are exactly the opposite we need in Presidential leadership; divide the american people to conquer first a poltical constiuency and then use that constiuency as a blunt instrument to further his overall adgenda.
I put this to Chris Salcedo and my fellow PJM posters who are really concerned about this as I am, and it is something I would never dream of suggesting to Rubin the twit Navarette.
I think we all have been looking at this from the wrong end. This is much more a foreign policy problem than it is a domestic one of our making. Because the biggest impediment to mounting a solution isn’t the oppertunism of Obama or the co-opting of the Chamber of Commerce or other ‘magnet’ appoligists.
The biggest problem is Mexico. Who is not only a really lousy neighbor, but despite what should have been a very good twenty years lifting up it’s own country through NAFTA instead has devolved into a drug war failing state.
WE propped them up after their Peso crises in ’94 and we are doing the same now. Yet we tolerate the pretense that they should be ‘partners’ in our immigration policy? That we are ‘responsible’ for their drug war (because of our appetite for drugs) and the flow south of weponds? (never proven decisively – except by their selective tracking by THEIR military).
Mexico can stop half the illegal crossings within a few months – should they enforce their northern border as they do their southern. Doing so is a starting point for negotiations.
But that WONT happen until we get a conservative republican (not named Bush) in the White House. And until then?
NO is the right answer to any suggestion coming from the likes of Obama or Janet Napolitano at HS. Like on so many issues – these political animals have proven they cannot be trusted.
So why is it when someone disagrees with you – they are a troll? You only want yes men nodding to everything you say? That is the problem with this country now. MIller in AK won’t answer questions from the media. Rand Paul’s henchmen throw a woman on the ground and kick her in the head. Cantor has his name in the paper for similar actions. Tell me – what happened to discourse, debate and disagreement? Locking yourself up behind a wall screaming ‘my way or no way’ will get you nowhere. My big argument and the point I keep trying to make is to throw out the BS. The hypocrisy. Look at yourself in the mirror. Look at your party – whoever you are – if your favorite politician is talking family values while cheating on his wife – he is a liar and isn’t going to change. If your favorite politician talks about getting rid of SS and Medicare and safety nets while he and his family collect same – you’ve got a hypocrite on your hands. That should be telling you something and it isn’t something good.
I want our politicians honest. I want them to stand for their individual states and the country as a whole. I want them to look at problems from different vantage points and come up with a plan that benefits everyone. I want them to give a damn about Americans and America first – not their pockets, cushy government jobs and insurance or lobbyists or their corporate buddies. Not this divisiveness and people spouting the fake party line or the bs they get from talking heads like Limbaugh and Beck who have an agenda called their bank account.
You are right on when you say the problem is Mexico. Not just Mexico but nearly all the countries south of the border. We will never fix the illegal immigration problem as long as people can’t work let alone work for a living wage. When people don’t have decent plumbing or electricity or food. When they live in hovels. When dodging cartel, rebel or government henchmen is at the top of the daily survival list. When you hear stories of engineers driving cabs in Mexico City because they are 45 instead of 25 and don’t look like they came off the cover of Vogue so no one will hire them. They come here for jobs, education and safety. The thing is that those countries need to fix themselves. They have a different societal and family structure than we do. We can help but it has to be in the way they need it – not how we think they should do it and they have to do it on their own or it won’t work.
“I want our politicians honest.”
Yeah, yeah. Which explains why Soetoro’s apologists are spinning like tops here, running interference for their idol as he lies yet again about immigration “reform” being on the table. As Salcedo pointed out so clearly, immigration reform is dead until at least 2012. REGARDLESS of whether the Republicans achieve a landslide or a more modest pickup. Even two years from now it will be a very long shot. If Bush and the pro-Amnesty Republicans could not get hordes of foreigners legalized when the economy was relatively good, there’s no way it’s going to happen in the near future. Not that I really care about pro-illegal half wits being lied to by their messiah – if they think that importing huge numbers of unskilled workers from failed narco-states is our ticket to prosperity, there’s probably no hope for them anyway.
What could be more alarming than the president of the United States calling the American people, enemies?
I am amazed that the president of the United States would be caught calling the majority of this nation, which happens to be White, the ‘enemy.’ I can understand a bunch of illegal alien criminals thinking this, but the president? I wonder who he thinks pays for his opulent lifestyle. Instead of attempting to destroy the taxpayers in America, perhaps the president should investigate LaRaza, LULAC, and the other Mexcican hate groups and change the immigration quotas from those of third-world nations to Europeans. Perhaps voting ballots should be printed only in English and perhaps the borders should be sealed to prevent this horrible influx of the needy. And perhaps the American people should try electing adult leaders who do not despise this country. The Whites built this nation and they are not the enemy.
Chris:
Obama is invested in the idea that he is capable of things he is not. Isn’t one of the ideas behind Obama’s ‘hope’, a denial of those aspects of ‘hope’ that are simply delusions? Obama is already on a slippery slope, and he shows no signs of understanding that he cannot throw around the ‘immigration reform’ buzzwords with impunity.
Expect him to continue to abuse the common sense of Americans in support of his ‘superior’ ideas of ‘fairness’ and ‘justice’, but almost always with messaging intended for specific races; ‘blacks’, ‘hispanics’, ‘muslims’, ‘gays’, etc…
Since Obama is highly critical of others who do not share a passion for his ideas, we should not be surprised when he treats ideas that differ from his with hostility. Don’t expect Obama to try to avoid a pyrrhic ‘victory’: Obama apparently believes that ‘winning’ means having nothing left to lose. By that standard he will certainly win, because along with our trust and our good graces, he is losing dignity with every passing day.
I do wonder if Hispanics are so easily led [ or manipulated ].
