Those in the US media who say that the Iraqis aren't stepping up are not paying attention. This article illustrates that there has been some success in acheiving the goals set by US military leaders and the Iraqi government.

I am amazed that the Iraqis, in now two provinces, who had previously been aligned with al Qaeda have had the majority of tribes shift to our side and raise troops to fight with us. I know that al Qaeda instituted harsh Sharia Law in these areas and killed many who protested, but we have given the tribes and the Iraqi people mixed political messages about how much we will support them. From milblogs and others interviews, it appears that now that we are out from behind the wire, the people actually believe we are there to protect them. Unfortunately, we gave the same message to the South Vietnamese about supporting them and did for over two years after we withdrew our combat troops. They were winning but congress abandoned them militarily and economically in 1975. I fear a repeat of this shortly after January 20th, 2009 if not sooner.

"...39 terrorists killed including the "ministers of oil and war" of the terror organization."

The terrorists are interested in Iraq's oil? But, but...

Seriously, did Al Qaeda think that blowing up and gassing Iraqis of all stripes would make The Base popular in Iraq?

I bet you won't find this great news and many more on the 6 pm report. Because info like this and other ways of finding out what going on around the world is why I think the American people know what going on with the war on terroism. Example about so few protester last weekend.

I know it may sound silly to you, but it would be helpful for those of us who aren't familiar with the geography of Iraq if you could put up a map marked with the locations where these events you blog about are taking place.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!
