Five Muslim Soldiers Under Terror Investigation at Fort Jackson

If the allegations that they tried to poison the base's food supply are true, it raises troubling questions that will impact our ability to fight Islamic extremism. (See update from Army Times: And CBN has updated their original story.)

If the five are foreign born, then the question raised by this case is whether or not the Army is fully vetting these would-be soldiers or is hurrying them through the process because their skills are much needed. And in light of the Army’s failure to investigate Nidal Hasan when there were clear signs that he was sympathetic to the ideology of violent jihad, is there still a culture of political correctness which is in denial that Muslims are far more likely to become terrorists than any other group?

Stakelbeck also had this to say: “There are a lot of Muslims in the Army that serve bravely and honorably, but maybe the Army is going to have to step back and take a serious look at devoutly Muslim soldiers. We had Akbar and Hasan, both devout Muslims.  We also know that al-Qaeda wants to infiltrate the military.”

He’s right. Al-Qaeda has publicly called on Muslims to infiltrate the U.S. military and follow the examples of Nidal Hasan and Hasan Akbar.

Clearly we need Muslims in the military, as they are the group most likely to have the language skills that we need to win the war against Islamist aggression. Further, there are a lot of Muslims who despise Islamism (political Islam) just as much as the next guy. By far, the greatest number of victims of Islamist aggression are Muslims.

In Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Chechnya, and wherever Islamists make demands for the institution of Islamic law through violence, tens of thousands of Muslims have died — most of them innocent civilians.

But it’s also undoubtedly clear that Muslims are also far more likely to sympathize with terrorism and violent jihad than any other group. Muslims are also far more likely to have those language skills needed to help our military win in Iraq and Afghanistan. How do you balance that against the need for more Muslims to serve in our intelligence ranks?

The answer might be heightened scrutiny for devout Muslims — the unspeakable and much hated profiling. But such profiling might also turn Muslims off from joining the ranks.  It also reinforces the widely held belief in the Muslim world that America is engaged in a war against Islam.

A vicious catch-22.

We can only hope that the allegations against these five are not true. That Nidal Hasan and Hasan Akbar are such rare exceptions that instituting a policy of religious profiling is as unnecessary as it is unseemly. Because if not, then the problem of jihadis within the ranks of the military might warrant such a policy.  And for the sake of victory, let us hope that if such a policy were instituted that it would be done in such secrecy that the New York Times never got whiff of it.

UPDATE: From Army Times:

The Army is investigating allegations that four or five soldiers training to be translators and interpreters were trying to poison the food supply for Fort Jackson, S.C., officials said.

However, there is no credible evidence to support the allegations, said Patrick Jones, a spokesman for Fort Jackson.

“Allegations were made and the command took it very seriously,” Jones said, adding that Army Criminal Investigation Command was conducting the investigation, which is still ongoing.

“Two months of investigation, there has been no credible evidence to support the allegations,” Jones said.

Jones did not know who reported the allegations or how they came to light.

The soldiers being investigated are not being detained, Jones said, but he did not know if they were still at Fort Jackson or whether they completed their training.

  1. You don’t need Muslims in your army, you need people who speak the languages that are spoken in their countries. Considering the fact that Muslims are harassing and murdering minorities everywhere, it should not be too hard to entice some of those harassed minorities to come and serve in your army. At least they won’t stab you in the back!

And besides: you have been at war in Irak and Afghanistan for something like eight years. Yes, it is hard to learn a language that has nothing in common with your own, but it is not impossible. Is there still no systematic training going on?

There are any number of beleaguered Arabic-speaking Christians in Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon. Why don’t we give *them* the accelerated path to citizenship through service?

  3. 3. Toronto Girl

Israel has a similar problem with Arab workers in restaurants. I remember reading in the Jerusalem Post that there were several cases of workers being caught attempting to poison the food. The solution is simple, don’t hire Arab workers. Shall I elaborate?

Someone tell me again how Islam is not the problem. Tell me again how there are just a few isolated extremists.

We do not need Muslims in our service. Let them go home.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve my beloved country.

Walid Phares in his book, The Confrontation, said that the next step for the jihadists would be to infiltrate our military and attempt not only to disrupt, but also to place officers and get access to intelligence. These incidents are merely the next step.

  7. Why not require all youth group leaders to be on sexual predator watch lists too…or no, no…how about having Tiger Woods be the national spokesperson for marital fidelity…oh, wait…I know why don’t we just have Joan Rivers expound on natural aging beauty secrets…because having potential terrorists in the military is quite frankly the same thing.

Its discouraging to see that our military has been compromised with political correctness and cannot protect itself from its muslim recruits–presumably due to politial pressures from obama.

We have soldiers on base prohibited from bearing arms, so they are no more able to defend themselves from shooters than college kids. Now, we have a fifth column of muslim translators. Lord only knows how much else is going on that has either not been reported, or not been discovered.

  9. 9. Lefty

Seems like this story is a dud. For those of you who cry “cover up”, ask yourself, if this were true, why wouldn’t Obama and company be plastering this across every newspaper in big red white and blue letters?

After the panty bomber and the army shootings, what politician wouldn’t immediately leak information on how the military foiled an Islamic plot.

Now the anti-government bomber who killed two people the other day. Well that’s not terrorism is it?

As a career Army linguist during the Cold War, I can still remember some of the old “Lodge Act” linguists: Eastern European refugees who joined the Army in the 50′s and provided their linguistic talents in exchange for U.S. citizenship. The vast majority of these soldiers turned out to be loyal Americans with nothing but disdain for the Communist regimes that they fled.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of this new wave of native linguists. Because of cultural and religious differences, we should take extra caution in screening these recruits so we don’t end up with a fifth column among our ranks.

Having both studied (Russian and Polish) and taught (German and Polish) at the Defense Language Institute, I know the Arabic faculty at DLI is fully capable of training native born Americans to do the job. Finding enough Americans who are willing and able to serve their country by learning such a difficult language is another matter altogether. Convincing the top brass to invest in this more difficult and time-consuming route, rather than simply outsourcing the mission, will be equally as difficult.

    RE: “Hated Profiling”?

Why should it be hated? The government does it to US ALL the time. It’s just that it’s rather selective in the application.

For example the DHS profiles military veterans who have conservative political views and, even worse, are Christians.

Why NOT ‘profile’ Muslims as well?

In the 1980s, if your sister married a Muslim, let alone an Iranian, guess what happened to your chances of getting a Top Secret security clearance? Three guesses. First two don’t count. Then guess what happens to your chances of being promoted…..

It’s because of political correctness which turns a blind eye to true threats that we get 13 dead and a score+ wounded at Fort Hood. And, it’s because of political correctness that THIS story was buried until CBN dug it up. They should be a contender for the Pulitzer.

There is a story going around the Jewish community that after 9/11, the Syrian Jewish community offered their services for Arabic translation as the government was in desparate need at that time. This was, as the tale goes, turned down by our government for reasons any reader of this comment can guess at. Obviously, we are still in need of competent Arab speakers, and I would advise the government to enlist these individuals as quickly as possible. Somehow I doubt that we would have to worry about any jihadist tendencies among them.

  15. I am a retired Army officer who served as a principal staff officer of US Army CID Command. I was a member of the Oklahoma City Bomb Investigation Task Force (McVeigh) in 1995. I know something about how sensitive investigations are done.

A Columbia, S.C. law-enforcement officer “familiar with the reports” told The State newspaper “that there was no attempt made to poison any soldiers, adding that a rumor started when several disgruntled soldiers shot their mouths off late last year. There was never any threat, nothing credible, he insisted.” (Linked at my site.)

Soldiers shooting off their mouths. Imagine.

We on the Right often accuse the Left, with justification, that their operating principle seems to be, “the facts don’t matter, the narrative is true.” Apparently that has become the operating principle of the Right, too, because that’s what they’re doing here. It’s disgraceful. Our country is ill served and truth is the casualty.

This problem will eventually sort itself out and the process is going to be extremely messy. Those who are attempting to quell unrest through politically correct twaddle and failure to act are ensuring that the coming, unavoidable unrest will be unlike anything they could possibly imagine.

    RE: ‘Disgraceful’?

Soldiers shooting off their mouths. Imagine. — Donald Sensing

Whereas I can appreciate your sensitivity to someone letting out information about an ‘on-going’ investigation, I have to question just HOW LONG this ‘investigation’ was going to go on before the rest of US heard about it. It’s been almost TWO MONTHS!

As for someone claiming that there was no substance to the ‘rumor’, I’m not so sure of the veracity of said report. Especially if the claim alleges that “several disgruntled soldiers shot their mouths off”. If that IS the case—so much barracks BS—where are these ‘disgruntled soldiers’ and why haven’t they been charged under the UCMJ for either (1) false reporting, (2) creating a hoax and/or having a bad affect on order and discipline, or charges to those effects?

Do that and there would be evidence supporting this Columbia, SC, law enforcement officer’s claim. As it is right now, there’s no evidence supporting his claim. And that leaves it open to his word alone. And, unfortunately, of late I’ve come to the opinion that one cannot take a law-enforcement officer at their word. Sometimes they tend to lie.

  19. 19. arhooley

Who leaked the story? And who initiated the charges? Well, if you want to credit Muslim infiltrators with a certain amount of cunning, it seems like the sort of thing they might do themselves. Create a great publicity case about false charges so people will be less inclined to report their suspicions later. Just sayin’.

Shackleford: “Further, there are a lot of Muslims who despise Islamism (political Islam) just as much as the next guy. By far, the greatest number of victims of Islamist aggression are Muslims.”

How do you conclude this??? If there were a lot of Muslim despising islamism, world would have solved the problem of Muslim terrorists long ago. All Muslims are Islamists since all Muslims want to spread and impose Islam on the rest of us non-Muslims(it is required for them by Mo/allah) just like the openly declared Islamists who carry out terrorist acts for this purpose. Therefore, I would not count on Muslims to come out in support of us regardless of where they live – they may live in USA and even serve in the armed forces but that is only a temporary phenomena in quest for ultimate goal of converting dar-up-harb to dar-ul-islam.

Only a word of caution – buyer beware when dealing with Muslims in the Army!!!

    Dear Rusty,

The problem is the Koran, Allah, and Mohammed. Shall we hope the Koran does not call to make war on the infidel? We can hope history is not correct on allah being a pagan moon god. Dare we hope Mohammed did not murder, and rape?

We can all stop pretending. Islam,(no such thing as extreme Islam), is at war with the world. America is outside the house of peace.

If there’s truly no credible evidence, why is the Army still investigating two months later?

    Actions speak louder than words.

  27. 27. Anonymous

Wait, let’s not jump to conclusions! They’re only insane America-hating jihadists who just happen to be disaffected male mulsims age 15- 45. Just all the other terrorists we’ve encountered. Sure, there’s no pattern here!

  28. 28. D Foster

If I were in the Army today, I would make sure I was packing all of the time. It is clear, the PC Officer of today will not protect the Enlisted Man over the threat of the Muslin Terrorist within the Military. Would never turn my back on them. Ever.THEY ARE THE ENEMY AND HAVE BEEN INVITED INTO OUR COMMUNITY BY THE POLITICAL CORRECT ELITE OFFICER CORPS AND POLITICIAN.

Maybe, just maybe, If some Soldier spoke up and protested the actions of Major Hasan, he would have been stopped from killing all of the unarmed Soldiers in the replacement depot, at Fort Hood. Just thinking about this Muslim Officer, and Officer, taking a gun a killing our Soldiers in Arms. Cowards for superior Officer and Commanders. They all ran from responsibility and placing their command above their obligation to the American Soldier.
But no “That would be a soldier shooting his mouth off” we can’t have any of that. Donald Sensing sounds like the PC Officer we we witnessed in the CID. As a former S-2 and S-3 , my experience was always listen to the Rifleman. They knew what was going on and they also knew who the bad and phoney solders were in command. Only when we had a American 2nd generation Viet Nam Soldier, were we able to obtain correct information.

  29. 29. Pragmatist

Wow FIVE ‘misunderstanders’ of Islam all in one place at the same time and FIVE Terrorist acting totally INDEPENDENTLY and all with NO CONNECTION at all to Islam. political Islam = redundancy
vicious catch 22 = over the top exaggeration. It’s an administrative problem
Arabic speaking Christians = best solution. 12,000 were forced from Mosul, Iraq in the last year alone by rampaging Muslims. Why don’t we ask them to give us a hand? More murderous Muslim thugs are killing Christians in Mosul this week as elections approach

  33. 33. fred

Precisely because they are Christians (filthy degenerates). We would be much safer without Christians serving in our military.

  34. 34. Dave M. (now in S. Korea)

Dearest Lefty, The man who flew his plane into the IRS building the other day did indeed commit an act of terrorism. More specifically, he committed an act of war and, if he had lived, should not have access to the protections of our constitution reserved for criminals. The fact that he died makes that all moot.

Unfortunately for muslims…I don’t believe they have the best interests of America at heart. Thusly…I believe all of them must be excluded from military service, government and above all…our national security interests. We must punish them all…until the so called level headed “moderates” get the message…and turn on their evil, murdering “brothers”.

Can a Muslim ever be a real American?

Someone sent that question to a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years. The following is his reply:

Theologically – no. Because his allegiance is to Allah, the moon god of Arabia .
Religiously – no. Because no other religion is accepted by his Allah except Islam.
Scripturally – no. Because his allegiance is to the five pillars of Islam and the Quran.
Geographically – no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he turns in prayer five times a day.
Socially – no. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews.
Politically – no. Because he must submit to the mullah (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel
and destruction of America, the great Satan.
Domestically – no. Because he is instructed to marry four women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him.
Intellectually – no. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and
he believes the Bible to be corrupt.
Philosophically – no. Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression.
Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or
    autocratic.
Spiritually – no. Because when we declare “one nation under God,” the Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah
is NEVER referred to as heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran’s 99 excellent
    names.

Therefore after much study and deliberation….perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be both “good” Muslims and good Americans.

And no! I do not think being politically correct is in the best interest of our nation. I am sure we can train REAL AMERICANS to speak their language. We’ve had almost 9 years to do so.

How hilarious. Even after the very author that spread this unfounded rumor turned around and debunked himself, you clowns are still talking about it as if it actually happened. 33. Without Christians in the military, we wouldn’t have a military, as 75% of the military personnel in this country are either Catholics or Baptists, with another 15% belonging to other Christian denominations. Reverse decimation of the military would essentially remove it from existence.

“Clearly we need Muslims in the military, as they are the group most likely to have the language skills that we need to win the war against Islamist aggression.”

No. They may the group most likely to have the language skills, but the group most likely to have the language skills that we need to win the war against Islamist aggression is gay linguists.

  41. 41. Turbeaux

“Clearly we need Muslims in the military, as they are the group most likely to have the language skills that we need to win the war against Islamist aggression.”

Obviously, the writer of this article naively accepts the political correct model whereby Islam is a Religion of Peace and the vast overwhelming majority of Muslims are peaceful and moderate. However, that political correct model is a demonstrably false myth, which can easily be discerned by simply taking a close survey of the Islamic world. For instance, peaceful and moderate people don’t systematically persecute, discriminate against, and violently oppress non-Muslim kafir infidels that live inside their countries the way that only Muslims do, even while they claim to be peaceful and moderate. Or, for instance, if Muslims are truly peaceful and moderate, then why have the majority of Muslim emigrants to the West refused to assimilate and integrate wherever they have migrated to the West in mass?

“Further, there are a lot of Muslims who despise Islamism (political Islam) just as much as the next guy.“

Certainly there may be people that identify themselves as Muslims who may despise political Islam, but those Muslims certainly are not devout Muslims and, as a matter of fact, would be deemed blasphemers and apostates by devout Muslims

“By far, the greatest number of victims of Islamist aggression are Muslims.”

Sure, in the Islamic world the majority of Muslims will denounce suicide bombings and violence when directed against fellow Muslims, but to arbitrarily assume that the majority of Muslims would denounce suicide bombings and violence when used against non-Muslim kafir infidels is ludicrous to say the least.

The reality is Muslims shouldn’t even be allowed in the USA much less the military. The author this article is obviously extremely naive and gullible and very blinded by political correct multiculturalism.
