The Fifth Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) makes clear that climate alarmism is now and has always been a matter of faith, and not science.

The just-released report includes remarkable revelations. Contrary to previous IPCC reports, this report shows that planet Earth’s mean temperature is not directly tied to the concentration of one relatively weak greenhouse gas — carbon dioxide — floating around in the atmosphere. It shows that other forces influence the planet’s climate, which for the most part are well beyond our control.

Volcanoes can pump particulate matter into the air, a phenomenon that lowers global temperatures by dissipating sunlight. The planet’s oceans — in particular, the massive Pacific — serve as enormous heat sinks, effectively modulating any natural temperature variations. And perhaps most importantly, the ultimate source of our day-to-day temperature fluctuations, the Sun itself, undergoes its own fluctuations that influence our lives far more than the burning of carbonaceous compounds in order to generate heat and power.

All of these facts, truths that “skeptics” such as the Heartland Institute (and yours truly) have been trumpeting for years, are acknowledged in the latest IPCC report.

However, that same report tells us to believe none of these other influences matters nearly as much as the small amount of carbon dioxide that mankind adds to the atmosphere. Doomsday is still on the way, according to the IPCC. Its arrival has merely been delayed a bit by an unexpectedly frivolous Mother Nature. We must not waver in our confidence that ruination is just around the corner.

We are supposed to forget how confident the prophets of doom were thirty years ago when they first began asserting that unless we kicked the fossil fuel habit, disaster was sure to arrive early in the 21st century. Well, here we are. The global climate is not markedly different from what it was when they started their predictions of doom. The “hockey stick graph” indicating a drastic temperature increase has given way to a broomstick, with temperatures lying flat for the past 15 years.

I object to the "faith based" label being attached to the IPCC.

It's not faith-based. It's agenda driven.

Big difference.

Greetings:

I've always admired the succinctness of Eric Hoffer's "What starts of as a cause, becomes a business, and ends up as a racket."

But, please don't despair, "income inequality" is being carefully nurtured as a viable replacement.

Climatology is modern alchemy, created by elitists and funded by wasted tax money to create an unneeded Carbon commodity market, taxes and controls. CO2 molecules merely vibrate as Infrared photons stream past at the speed of light. Human CO2 combines one cubic mile of Carbon with two cubic miles of atmospheric Oxygen to produce 28 giga-tons of natural, mandatory for Carbon life cycle, three atom benign gas. Earth has 259 trillion cubic miles of molten rock at 3000F and 310 million cubic miles of ocean at 40F. There is NO Carbon climate forcing of these giant masses. The High Priests are agenda driven. The work is done by the alter boys, and for them, it is a matter of faith. You have to have the true believers to get your religion to the point where you can meet Orwell.

In complex systems, trend based analysis based on computer modeling, is the weakest of links.

The entire AGW hypothesis is based upon weak science. The complexity obscures the premises. If x continues as it has then in 100 years...

But x if that means CO2 in the atmosphere is just one element in a complex system which cannot be proven under controlled conditions.

The hypothesis cannot be tested. That is the definition of junk science.

I think it will not be long until we all forget about the whole mania. Most people I know are more worried about the shrinking job market and getting health insurance since the government screwed that up as well.

You cannot even manage to launch a new insurance program. That is easy peasy compared to the long term climate of the planet.

I prefer this explanation from the very cute Disney movie lilo and stitch

Hula Teacher: Lilo, why are you all wet?
Lilo: It's sandwich day. Every Thursday I take Pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich...
Hula Teacher: "Pudge" is a fish?
Lilo: And today we were out of peanut butter. So I asked my sister what to give him, and she said 'a tuna sandwich'. I can't give Pudge tuna!
[whispering]
Lilo: Do you know what tuna *is*?
Hula Teacher: Fish?
Lilo: [hysterical] It's fish! If I give Pudge tuna, I'd be an abomination! I'm late because I had to go to the store and get peanut butter 'cause all we have is... is... stinkin' tuna!
Hula Teacher: Lilo, Lilo, why is this so important?
Lilo: [calmly] Pudge controls the weather.

"The entire AGW hypothesis is based upon weak science."

Not the ENTIRE hypothesis. It's not ALL weak science.

A good part of it is outright lies.

Whenever someone says science is "settled" you know immediately that they know nothing about the nature of science. It is the essence of science to always question, even "facts". At one time Newtonian physics and the ether were "settled" science. Then along came Maxwell and a little thing called quantum.

Of course not. Otherwise these 132 countries walking out on "the UN's" latest gab fest/gab feast disappointed in their quest for big bucks in so called reparations (to the tune of $100 billion) will get their shorts in an even bigger knot.

Am I the only one who remembers the Climate Dogma from the 70's/80's about the terror of 'GLOBAL COOLING'? And the rapidly approaching 'Coming ICE AGE' !
If we, humanity, didn't change our wasteful ways. IIRC this Coming Climate Catastrophe made the covers of the all major news mags (remember them?).
Would I be close in supposing that these terrifying climatic disasters are mainly something for the MSM to belabor conservative administrations and congressional majority's while providing soapboxes for good liberals to sound off from without actually having to prove anything? Besides if they do it long enough and loud enough they'll come up with some real 'True Believers' to hew the wood and carry the water for them.

MoT says that that never happened, the Earth has always been warming, we've always been at war with EastAsia.

The story the last I read was that, while popular sources such as Times Magazine might have had cover articles about global cooling and the new ice age, True Climatologists were never on board with that.

I remember that!
One of the reasons I don't believe any of "anthropogenic" climate change theories. It is pretty obvious that the "scientists" are just angling for government grant money - and governments are using it as an excuse for power grabs.
