If you don't think that the Spectator and other such mediums have done anything to curb leftism at Brown, then you are ignorant about where brown was 5 and 10 years ago. The very fact that something conservative can be said without inciting riots is a vast improvement over the campus culture as it was just a few years ago.

Considering this article was released the day before you made your post, I assume it is what you were talking about (http://thebrownspectator.com/2008/05/08/carcieri-cracks-down-rhode-island-gets-serious-about-illegal-immigration/). Perhaps your reading comprehension is not up to snuff, because as I read the article it is quite obvious that the writer is serious about what she writes. Also, nowhere does it seem an appropriate paraphrase of the article to say that illegal immigrants are terrorists. Rather, she says that illegal immigrants are breaking the law, a fact that ought to be self-evident by the word illegal.

Perhaps you're correct; we have not necessarily crushed campus liberals in the sense that we have done something to reduce their numbers and increase ours. But your appeals to logical fallacy (such as the straw man you used to paraphrase Ms. Kelleher's article), is a strategy I find to be typical of Brown liberals. While we have not utterly destroyed the campus left, you are evidence that we have certainly out-thought at least one of them.

"Brown’s campus left is ... perhaps crushed for good by the ever-presence of the Spectator."

I love the optimistic spirit, but did you talk to anyone else besides Spectator writers on this one? Trust me. The Spectator has done nothing to "crush" campus liberals. If anything, it's encouraged them. I'm all for free speech, and I come from a conservative background. But when I read the Spectator (paraphrase: illegal immigrants are terrorists), I'm assured that my increasingly left-ward leanings are justified.

In fact, I was laughing with my Bible study group over one of the articles. We couldn't figure out if it was satire or in earnest. I think that says it all.

and kudoes to David Horowitz. His Long War is - if not winning - at least, seeing some successes.

This is outstanding. Makes me want to regularly read The Spectator.

BTW, did you hear the one about former Senator Bill Frist, now teaching at Princeton, his old alma mater three days a week? Seems several weeks ago he announced he wanted to bring in a conservative guest lecturer to his undergraduate class on health policy at Woodrow Wilson there and asked for a little larger space. Evidently, Princeton was unable to deliver and he and his guest lecturer and class were given a room about the size of a broom closet for the event.

Now, evidently Frist wants to bring Newt to his class soon...perhaps the university will accommodate by shuffling them all into a little Volkswagen bug for this one...

It has always been thus. As being on the receiving end of lots of abuse both student and staff generated at Colby College in the 80s this just seems as same old same old.

Liberal arts colleges in the US are anything but liberal when it comes to free speech for the right.

And yes the shut down the right of center magazine because of a few cartoons that offended the left.
