(Slightly OT: Hersi Ali, but I have to let this out)

OH GOD!!! I was visiting a very Liberal friend of mine in the states (I live in the NL).

SHE seemed to think the the NL was a very racist country and that Hersi Ali was a bigotted white women. BOTH of which are the farthest from the truth.

I (gently) set her straight about who Hersi is and now she is now planning on getting Hersi’s book.

(It will be a funny story when I get back to Holland. Hopefully my friend will read Hersi’s book and take her head out of the sand)

I was fascinated by the video posted, so I went to YouTube and brought up all of the Pim Fortuyn videos that I could find. I speak German, so I could pick up on some of the meaning. I wish I had English translations of all of Fortuyn’s video appearances and books.

The idea that Pim Fortuyn was racist or even a right-winger is absurd. Just watch his videos. Fortuyn had no hate in his face. You can tell, he had no desire to harm people, even when he was harassed by the media in one video.

I saw joy in Pim Fortuyn’s face. I saw joy in the verbal combat. I saw humor in making his points. I saw desire to present his ideas in competition to his opponent’s ideas.

I saw a man who looked at the world with clear eyes and saw what worked and what didn’t work. I saw a man in love with the free society and what freedom brought in culture, in prosperity, in human dignity and in hope for the future.

I saw a man, who saw that future in danger and went out to alert his countrymen using the tools of freedom. He was murdered for this, like Martin Luther King.

Ahh, thank you for yet another post for this grim anniversary. I have tried to get as many as possible to add videos and post what they can, and this is most welcome and quite expert. I also love that video, which I have also subtitled for YouTube. I am trying to get more Dutch speakers to subtitle more videos likewise. The non-Dutch-speaking world has much to learn of Pim, and not all will be as willing to try and learn Dutch.

C. Siegel–they wrote this and worse, and I believe that it was “The Guardian” that wrote up a piece in 2001 about “Europe’s New Far Right”, which featured Pim, so absurdly. Song quotes are rarely used well, and you have finally done so. Thank you.

GW Bush: If you see what I get in my mailbox from time to time, in terms of threats and so on, that doesn’t exactly cheer you up. And the Democrats and the Media, and this I think is a ‘bloody shame’, helps in creating a climate in which I am demonized. And if something were to happen to me – I am glad that you give me the opportunity to say this – if something were to happen to me, then they are responsible too. And then they can’t just say, ‘well, it wasn’t us committing the attack’, no, you have created the climate in which the attack took place and that has to stop.God forbid, but personally I’m surprised there haven’t been attempts on the President’s life and I think you say the same for Blair and Sarkozy. The Left has become totally enraged, because they are losing and they know they are losing. The old establishment is lashing out at political opponents; Bush #1, but also Delay, GOP, Limbaugh, Hannity and others. I expect violence to occur.

Tragic. As I remember, at the time of the murder, Fortuyn was described by the world media as an “eccentric gay right-wing extremist”. As Don McLean wrote about another brilliant Dutchman, “They would not listen, they did not know how/Perhaps they’ll listen now.”
