Drunkblogging Obama’s Afghanistan Speech
4:39PM I’m watching CNN’s online stream. And I’m so desperate after all these press conferences that I’ve decided to forego the usual, fancy name-brand martinis. Instead, I’ve taken a jug of McCormick and poured it over a large bucket of ice. One way or another, this is gonna be ugly.
4:44PM So you know, here’s where I’m coming from. Most of my Army buddies disagree with me, but I always figured John McCain’s formula of “muddling through” in Afghanistan was the right one. I couldn’t see that we had any vital interests in that (not-quite-a-) country, other than as a place to kill bad guys who were trying to kill us.
But President Obama promised us a bigger war, and now he seems poised to give us a bigger war. Again. And it’s on his premises that I’ll judge his speech.
CORRECTION: His premises, but my vodka.
4:48PM CNN’s web feed is surprisingly, refreshingly free of talking heads. Maybe Obama will forget to show up.
No, wait — that would just lead to extra Anderson Cooper, and I’m not sure my liver could take it.
4:49PM Ha! The officer speaking is having to remind the cadets to stand and applaud, because President Obama “is our commander-in-chief.” Think anyone had to remind cadets to be nice to the last president?
4:51PM I mean, he’s STILL going on about protocol. Reminds me of a story I heard at BlogWorld last month down in Vegas. I can’t give many details, but another Army officers had to remind his soldiers to applaud politely when Obama spoke. Not young, inexperienced cadets, but hardened battle veterans.
4:54PM Hillary Clinton is in attendance tonight, marking the first room she and Obama have been in together since the Democratic National Convention last summer. Even then, some protocol experts were uncertain whether the Pepsi Center would be big enough.
4:56PM Can’t take the speech? Then why not wind down with very special episodes of “Hair of the Dog” and “Trifecta” on PJTV?
4:58PM The hold music CNN is playing between speeches was orchestrated for people who find the stylings of Spyro Gyra to be “too rambunctious.”
5:00PM The hold music is off, it must be time…
5:01PM I’d really like to hear just one cadet shout, “Freebird!”
5:02PM Nice tie.
5:03PM “Our effort in Afghanistan.” “The scope of our interests.” He did finally use the word “war,” but not before framing everything in academicese.
5:05PM Ode to the religion of peace? Check. (Bush did this one, too.) Reminder of untied effort, circa 2001? Check.
5:07PM Re-legitimizing the Afghan president he spent weeks delegitimizing? Check. Reminder that the Iraq War was a big Bush mistake? Check. Use of the phrase “responsible close” instead of “victory” in Iraq? Check. Time for third extra large cocktail? Check.
5:08PM Second reminder that the Afghan government is legit? Check — but I didn’t see that one coming. Karzai must not be polling well. In this country, I mean.
5:08PM “Troop levels remain a fraction” what they were in Iraq. True enough. 7/10ths is a fraction.
5:09PM OK, kids — my browser is refreshing more slowly. That means our server is getting strained. Try not to hit “Refresh” more than every minute or two. Please!
5:10PM A THIRD reminder that the Afghan government is legit? Check, check, check. We get it.
5:11PM “A mission clearly defined and worthy of your service.” Followed by the night’s first “let me be clear.” Everybody take a shot.
5:12PM “As commander-in-chief…” he’s decided to send an additional 30,000 troops for 30 months.
That’s not a strategic decision. That’s a new-car warranty.
5:13PM Anyway, we’ve got the number — the rest is fluff. So let’s get on with the poking fun. And the drinking. Dear lord, the drinking.
5:14PM “I’ve seen first hand the terrible wages of war.” It was at a late night photo op here in the US, where nine of ten military families said “no thanks” to the photo op. But still… Bambi is young. And being President is HARD.
5:15PM “We must increase the pressure on al Qaeda.” I’m still not convinced that we can’t do that by firing craploads of Hellfire missiles into Pakistan’s NWFT. But that’s just me.
5:16PM Deny AQ a safe haven, protect the government, strengthen the government. Fair enough. But how?
5:17PM “The fastest possible pace” for deployment. We sent a brigade a month to Iraq for that surge. And one per quarter for the current surge. See the Hair of the Dog link above for details.
5:18PM “July of 2011.” Congrats, AQ. Keep your head down until then, and you’ll do fine.
Again, these are not strategic decisions the President has made after ten months of review. This is kicking the can further down the road, but with a slightly bigger boot.
5:20PM “We’re in Afghanistan to prevent a cancer… from spreading in that country.” I thought it was to kill American-killing baddies. Although the tough talk about cross-border killing in Pakistan is tough, smart, and right.
5:22PM Obama sounded like he was going to get specific about what he was going to ask of our NATO allies a couple minutes ago… but then skirted it. Have we already been told “No more!” by Britain, Germany and France?
5:23PM Afghanistan is not another Vietnam! Well, of course it isn’t. Obama would never have sent more troops to fight communists.
5:23PM “There are those…” First of the night! Everybody drink.
5:24PM “There are those…” number two! Shoot a double, folks.
5:26PM Camera shifted to Hillary, who looks more bored than the cadets, and more disdainful than Darth Vader confronting an Imperial Janitor who left a dustbunny trailing on Vader’s cape.
5:27PM Great. We’re going to fight with more soldiers… and less money? What do you want to bet that the Army and Marines won’t get any fresh spare parts until 2015 at the earliest?
5:28PM “The nation I’m most interested in building is our own.”
With all due respect, Mr. President, that’s not your goddamn job. We, the people, build this nation. And we’d get back to doing just that, if you’d quit taxing and spending and regulating us back into Galt’s Gulch.
5:28PM Did you know that we “can’t kill or capture every” single extremist in the world? Huh.
5:30PM “Finally…” you’ll excuse the lack of blogging while I give a silent prayer.
5:30PM “Respect for the dignity of all peoples” is what we’re all about.
Again, it’s governance-as-model-UN time in the Obama Administration.
5:32PM He talks of walls coming down and millions lifted out of poverty… and never once recognizes HOW THESE THINGS HAPPENED. It’s magic!
5:33PM “We are still heirs to a noble struggle for freedom.” Freedom to owe China extra trillions? Freedom to buy mandated insurance? What is this freedom of which he speaks?
5:34PM “…we were united.” Well, yeah, until the going got hard — that happens in war sometimes — and people like Obama jumped ship.
5:35PM “The message we send in the midst of these storms is…” uh… “bring an umbrella?”
5:37PM Bad writing. Lame delivery. Tepid response — from cadets ORDERED to be nice.
And a strategic vision equal parts High School Essay Content and low-rent public relations.
I hope you had as much to drink as I did.
5:42PM Bad writing. Lame delivery. Tepid response — from cadets ORDERED to be nice.
And a strategic vision equal parts High School Essay Content and low-rent public relations.
I hope you had as much to drink as I did.
5:48PM You can find my final thoughts here — but I warn you, it ain’t pretty.

I’m laying down a wager that his mention of the word “I” will hit triple digits.
“Instead, I’ve taken a jug of McCormick and poured it over a large bucket of ice.”
That’s the wimp response. One would be better off drinking a full bottle of Night Train and MD 20/20. Might as well go all the way. Obama is merely going to give a mealy-mouth speech—which will irritate everybody. He lacks the ability to do anything else.
Just wanna say thanks for doing this Stephen…I simply cannot listen to the man anymore…and thankyou McCormick
Ned, I hope you don’t think I’m joking about the McCormick.
David, my paycheck depends on being able to still type something.
Boedicca, you’re in charge of keeping score, OK?
I love the fact that after dithering for months while the troops in AfPak are holding on by their teeth, Obummer couldn’t just come right out with his decision- he had to wait for another Staged Event, using USNA as his set and the Corps of Cadets as his extras.
Megalomaniac egotron.
Erm, USMA
Yeppers.
I am eating coco puffs and drinking vodka to get through this. I hate having to listen to him. He looks really uncomfortable in this venue.
We don’t take off for typos during drunkblogs. S’cool.
As former professional drinker, I don’t bat an eye at a bucket of vodka…
Suddenly, he’s a history prof. Must be a teaching moment.
Oh God,
The United States’s Corps of Cadets?
Tonight requires a national sacrifice. Wray and Nephew Overproof, with an Olde English 800 High Gravity chaser.
Why do I want to break out into song every time he says “taliban”? “Hey Mr. Taliban, tally me bananas . . . daylight comin’ I wanna go home.”
1. boedicca:
I’m laying down a wager that his mention of the word “I” will hit triple digits.
Well you got one “I” yourself already.
Expect more direct and indirect Bush bashing from the incorrigible man-child. Obama is DESPERATE to hold onto his base Lefties; this is the main point of the speech.
Pokeeston . . . can you believe it? H e shouldn’t be allowed to be president.
Ug. I’m no rightie, but the sole reason I voted against this guy was talk about ending war, not winning war. JFK would be disgusted with his party today.
How did that whole Kerry heart to heart with Karzai work out, Mr. president?
Um, anyone remember Bush ignoring requests for troops in Afghanistan? I don’t.
I finally figured out why the O decided to give this speech before a live audience – he doesn’t have the cahones to look straight into the camera when addressing the American people. He’s not even making eye contact with the cadets……
And leftbrainfemale who can forget the infamous; “Bomb Bomb Bomb. bomb bomb Iran”
Stephen… Thank you for doing this. I can’t handle another speechifying by BHO.
does that mean he he pronounces of off-gone-e-ston?
I have a new movie idea: “Toby goes to West Point”
nice reading – okay not really – too mechanical
The military tries very hard, or should, to remain politically neutral. It’s vital to the security of our nation.
So many people like to make so much of so little to imply a political bias in the military. That was simply the head of the school reminding his charges to behave. It ceratinly did happen during the Bush presidency as well.
I know that you’re trying to make hay of the president’s perceived lack of popularity among the mlitary, but please don’t read so much into such petty things. Just look at the Dreyfuss Affair to see what happens when the military becomes too politically charged.
I have the sound off…and he does not look like he believes a word he is saying…’cuz he don’t…
Man, those cadets look interested, almost like GM employees at Whiteacre’s most recent speech.
15. Sebastian Shaw:
Yup, he’s feeling our pain on the economy and bemoaning the paltry attention to Afghanistan while we poured buckets of blood into the sands of Iraq — ahhh, which we’re leaving in 2011. I bet AQI is drunk-blogging, too. Toasts all around! 2011 is our year!
The soldiers look very uncomfortable, and I don’t believe its the uniforms. The cameras don’t stay on them long. I wonder if that is intentional?
So clear and precise . . . how dare he! And the relentless Bush bashing . . . over and over and over . .. if only I could give an example, my ginned up rage would be so much more meaningful.
Bush ignored the requests in the Parallel Universe where Gore Won the 2000 election.
Mutual respect, friendship, etc… Reminds me of my ed. major students.
Teresa – The One only makes eye contact with the TOTUS.
Why not make big pharma buy the opium instead of making synthetic?
Alas, I’m committed to saying sober, so this is as close as I can get to listening to this guy. Had a worse problem with the last guy.
Heads up, NyQuil doesn’t take the edge of his speech either.
Oh Dear! He just promised the Pakistani’s that we would continue to financially support them after the “guns have silenced”! He better not talk to the American People about a “war tax” if he is planning to use it to support their democracy. That will not go over well at all.
Officers not so happy either
Why is he talking Pahk E Stahn? He looks like he hates giving this speech – almost mad. THIs Is not Vietnam! Golly I am smart!
It’s rather fun to see him use the strawman technique against the antiwar left.
I’m drinking Blue Moon Belgian White – been drinking it ever since the election… continuously.
How the hell dis this useless piece of crap get elected? President Obobblehead. Hope his teleprompther quits
I love Obama’s “talleey-ban” bit–as in a Pakistani pronounced “Johnny Talleey-ban.” Lovin’ it!
Did anyone see the African-American cadet snoozing? TEEHEE.
It may be the overproof rum speaking, but don’t we have plenty of old nukes?
Drunkblogging? Judging from the quality of your writing, it seems to be what you do every time you post.
Oh CHRIST here comes Campaign Speech part 3,982.
Afghanistan is not another Vietnam, but your policy is you moron! It combines the worst of Johnson and Nixon.
Address these costs = A new tax
Addressing costs openly and honestly? Has he been listening to Dave Ramsey?
Cynthia said: The soldiers look very uncomfortable, and I don’t believe its the uniforms. The cameras don’t stay on them long. I wonder if that is intentional?
I’d say definitely – reasons are two-fold – they don’t look happy, and he is arrogant enough to think we’d rather look at his mug than those of our soldiers. Have we heard any clapping whatsoever?
“We’re in Afghanistan to prevent a cancer… from spreading in that country.”
Prevent cancer from spreading??? The teleprompter is confusing his health care speech and his Afghanistan speech.
OMG! What’s up with his voice? He is obviously straining, under pressure, lisping, curt and shorter than normal phrasing. …and, he looks undernourished, and the black under his eyes has only been partially blocked with makeup. O must be up long hours.
I love Obama’s “Talleey-ban” bit–as in a Pakistani pronounced “Johny Talleey-ban.” I’m lovin’ it..eatin’ that s**t with a spoon!
And the blond chick in uniform on the NYTimes-Pravda feed falls asleep…..
They are showing some that are asleep.
“Suddenly he’s a history prof.”
Who can’t seem to remember who had his job at the time!
We had a “Let me be clear…” a minute or two back.
watching live – he should have stopped by now !!! Oh – wait – I heard the “finally” word……
Why does he pronounce Pakistan and Taliban like that? It drives me nuts, like his voice and his persona. Does he think it makes him sound more intelligent, pronouncing those words differntly than other Americans do? And he just said “diplomacy” Hows that working out for ya in Iran?
So many people like to make so much of so little to imply a political bias in the military. That was simply the head of the school reminding his charges to behave.
Having been at West Point as both a cadet and a professor, I can assure you that that reminder was not normal. No one had to remind the cadets about behavior when President Reagan visited.
7.25 p.m. CST: He’s wandering all over the place rhetorically. This is a snoozer. Now it’s turned into a speech about the economy. I predict health care is next. Obvious by now that he doesn’t give a rat’s butt about A’stan.
Someone send him DVDs of Churchill’s wartime speeches. There is nothing O has said that makes me think he is determined to defeat the enemy who attacked us on 9/11. It’s obvious that he is looking for a way out (heck, he just said so).
There is no fire, no passion in this. The sentences are wooden and dry, devoid of evidence of personal commitment to any of the ideals he is uttering. I don’t think he believes a single word he’s saying.
Wish they’d quit showing the cadets nodding off – they’ll probably be in a world of hurt after Axelrod goes through the tape.
spoke too soon – how hard can this be? We need to win, this is what we are going to do, thankyou, goodnight…….
but no – he’s still bloody electioneering – and 30 minutes in we get a round of applause………..
He expected far more applause lines than he has gotten.
“…spent our revenues rebuilding countries?” Is that the best his speechwriters can do to describe the Marshall Plan?
*gag*
Oh dear God. He’s left off the troop numbers and gone onto one Obomination after another. I’m counting on the drunk-blogger now.
Enough with the Bush bashing already!
Damn, how much of Toby’s speech is on Afghanistan, and how much is Bush-bashing and stump-speech making?
53. Just call me Jim:
“OMG! What’s up with his voice? He is obviously straining, under pressure, lisping, curt and shorter than normal phrasing. …and, he looks undernourished, and the black under his eyes has only been partially blocked with makeup. O must be up long hours.”
Tell me, Jim, is he wearing boxers or briefs?
great trials, storms, unwavering – oh – thankyou – God Bless America.
Gee that was tedious……..
“5:28PM “The nation I’m most interested in building is our own.”
With all do respect, Mr. President, that’s not your goddamn job. We, the people, build this nation. And we’d get back to doing just that, if you’d quit taxing and spending and regulating us back into Galt’s Gulch.”
Amen.
Tepid applause from the cadets. Every one of them knows more than Obama does.
“We have to increase Home Land Security”, especially since people are sneaking into State Dinners!!
But Hey… at the end he did finally speak to the American People…
Damn, that was as fast and unemotional as visit with a $5 NYC hooker during Fleet Week.
Well, I counted 42 mentions of “I”, but I may have missed a few as my lower appendix reached up to throttle my brain in rejection of The Banality of The Sppech.
Look at all those sleeping cadets clamoring to shake his hand and get a picture. Disgusting! They should be shot..
He just left the stage. Dig he salute, or otherwise recognize, the cadets? I think not. He just walked out as if he were having a panic attack.
““As commander-in-chief…” he’s decided to send an additional 30,000 troops for 30 months.”
Jesus Christ, a withdrawal date. Plainly this bozo is just as clueless after 9 months of professional military advice as he was in the Senate. What a fuckin’ IDIOT!
I’m sure Al-Qaeda are all marking their calendars.
(BTW, 30,000 ain’t NEARLY what McChrystal asked for).
He should have stopped after “thirty thousand.” It was all downhill from there. I’ma head over to Daily Kos to check on the kids.
What a joyful, enthusiastic-looking audience! WILD APPLAUSE! Shouts of 0u-raah!
I’m a 94 grad. I can tell you this: the cadets didn’t start any of the applause except for the intro and the ending. There was one clapper down front that tried to get everyone else involved.
Psychological analysis: He used “I” for the easy stuff (his feelings, his resolve, his beliefs) and “We” for anything requiring real accountability.
Telling.
Boedicca – Ah, yes, the good ol’ Teleprompter. It’s a shame no one could have unplugged it like they did with Sarah Palin at the beginning of her RNC speech – unlike the ‘Cuda, BO wouldn’t know what to do…..
that was a massive disappointment – surely he should have recognised that many of the young men in that room would be sent to war and would die. Krauthammer makes good point – “not a speech you would hear from Henry V or Churchill”
(but I am a Brit so guess I am biased)
76. Now and Then.
“Look at all those sleeping cadets clamoring to shake his hand and get a picture. Disgusting! They should be shot..”
Like a Turkey? Touched for the very first time?
and here is why this Brit is interested…….
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/6703975/99th-soldier-to-die-in-Afghanistan-this-year-hero-who-tried-to-save-injured-colleague.html
Why does Obama look mad? The masque is slipping to reveal the true Obama; he is very different from the media-created image than the real man himself. He’s a smug, self-centered narcissist with a huge ship on his shoulder about America being the ills of everything in the world. This is why he cannot look anyone in the eye. He’s playing a role, a really bad acted one. Katie Couric could take his place as the next newsreader…
There is not any kind or volume of alcohol in the world that would tempt me to listen, willingly, to The Once. Your liver is doing the work mine won’t do!
That being said, I find it interesting that the cadets were given “protocol prep” so publicly. Translation: “None of us want to be here applauding this guy, and we want the Americans watching to know that military protocol dictates otherwise. Please keep this in mind.”
How vigorous were said applause?
Death is truly the only deliverance from this speech. That or the cheap-ass gallon ‘o port that fortified me through it.
I owe you all a huge debt of gratitude yet again, for doing what I cannot do myself ~ watch this guy on my screen voluntarily. I THOUGHT perhaps I could tonight, for the sake of our marvelous military, BUT.
Last night’s NFL commercial with the boy king slo-mo-ing a catch in concert with the “Chariots of Fire” music in my head…I just couldn’t muster the intestinal fortitude tonight.
83. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX:
” It’s a shame no one could have unplugged it like they did with Sarah Palin at the beginning of her RNC speech – unlike the ‘Cuda, BO wouldn’t know what to do…..”
It stuns me that ANYBODY still believes, after all the first-hand accounts that dispute this conservative myth, some still believe it. Amazing. Here, Teresa, check this out. It’s from Ed Driscol, a columnist right here at PJM. Summon the courage to admit your were hoodwinked. Move on. Are you capable of that? Let us know.
http://eddriscoll.com/archives/013920.php
I’m left with an oppressive sadness wondering how many of those cadets who endured this muddled mess will needlessly die because the Obamessiah telegraphed to the Afghanis that they should ally themselves with the Taliban because the U.S. is “outtahere” in a couple of years.
I am not a Brit, merely an American, and yes, 5:41, this was a disappointment. Atypical lies from POTUS, again. Wonder who came up with the grand idea of a THIRD TOTUS? For that intimate, oh, so disarmingly (no pun intended) presidential look (rehearsed for how many days in the mirror, I wonder).
Hey, has anyone seen Now and Then around tonight?
For some odd reason, this post reminds me of the movie “The Jerk”:
“87. Sebastian Shaw:
Why does Obama look mad? The masque is slipping to reveal the true Obama; he is very different from the media-created image than the real man himself. He’s a smug, self-centered narcissist with a huge ship on his shoulder about America being the ills of everything in the world. This is why he cannot look anyone in the eye. He’s playing a role, a really bad acted one. Katie Couric could take his place as the next newsreader…”
Only instead of Bernadette Peters lamenting that “It’s not the money I miss, it’s the STUFF!”, Obama could easily be saying: “It’s not that I want to do the job, I just want the ATTENTIPN!”
RPFreeSpeech at 5:54 pm
why “merely” an American?
–
I think that in all the challenges we face America remains the best hope for the Free World – this is truly a terrible burden you have to carry, but you really do carry the torch for democracy and freedom. Let’s hope our current pathetic leadership (on both sides of the Atlantic) does not drive us apart!
85. Mr Lucky:
Don’t you have a baster to load?
94. jbubba76013:
“Hey, has anyone seen Now and Then around tonight?”
You mean other than you?
McChrystal’s Revenge: Win anyway.
It’s a no-brainer:
1. Obama gains public support…and totally loses his leftwing base for 2012. They’ll never trust him again.
2. Obama looks “Presidential”…and also like an idiot at the same time.
3. The GOP gets another issue for 2012: “We won. But how much FASTER would we have won if President I-Me-Mine hadn’t been doing his ‘hither and thither as I dither’ routine?”
Stephen – Another great drunkblogging session. Your observation: “Afghanistan is not another Vietnam! Well, of course it isn’t. Obama would never have sent more troops to fight communists.”
Funny, astute, and of course, true!
He’s mad cos he’s pushing 50 and he finally had to make a decision. To top it off, it’s not the decision he wanted – he wants to cut & run.
And more importantly, this decision will be judged by the American people & history.
Yeah, I really miss Now and Maybe Later.
OK, so he’s not as good a speaker as GWB, but he did the best he could.
I’m not going to pretend I was a supporter who is now suddenly disappointed. By really, what an insufferable douche bag president we wound up with. He’s truly awful and we are stuck for another 3 years while he tries to find his ass with two hands and a flash light.
Barack Obama is a buffoon. A leader never, never, never, informs the enemy concerning the approximate date of withdrawal from the battlefield. This is just so stupid. Can anyone imagine Winston Churchill saying something similar?: “We must increase our troops in the Summer of 1943 to fight Hitler’s army—so that they can be withdrawn sometime in mid 1945.” Yup, that’s the ticket to a successful military campaign. It’s too bad that the British prime minister did not attend Harvard University. He simply did not obtain a good education.
Now and Then: Dude, lighten up – I was being snarky! However, anyone who has watched the O when he is off of the TOTUS knows that the guy isn’t the best extemporaneous speaker. He doesn’t even appear to be able to read off of the paper that his speeches are written on without faltering.
And I don’t know if you saw the same clip that I did from the State dinner the other night, but our Dear Leader can’t even give a short TOAST without looking at his notes every other word or so…..
thanks, drunkblogger. You came through for us again. I nearly busted my hip getting into the living room to shut the TV off….I was on the phone and had forgotten that The Thing was going to be speaking and all of a sudden There Was This Voice…..”*XKJshudder….” had to drop the phone and run for the remote…let me make that perfectly clear.
Boring speech, lifeless delivery. You come away with the impression that he didn’t believe a damn thing he said.
OT, but Obama’s dear Auntie is going to be thrown under the bus; in fact, Rahm probably wants her fitted for cement shoes.
Why? Because she LOVES President Bush:
…Onyango reserved special words of kindness for former President George W. Bush for a directive he put in place days before the election requiring federal agents get high-level approval to arrest fugitive immigrants, which directly affected Onyango. The directive made clear that U.S. officials worried about possible election implications of arresting Onyango.
She said she wants to thank Bush in person for the order, which gave her a measure of peace but was lifted weeks later.
“I loved President Bush,” Onyango said while moving toward a framed photo of Bush and his wife standing with Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House on inauguration day. “He is my No. 1 man in my life because he helped me when I really needed that help.”
Of course, the AP buried those three paragraphs at the very bottom of a 20-something paragraph article.
Does President Present offer her any help like Bush did? Well, not so much it seems…
…Onyango, the half sister of Obama’s late father, said she has exiled herself from the family after attending Obama’s inauguration because she didn’t want to become fodder for his foes. Obama and his family have not reached out to her either, she said.
Such a warm, caring fellow, that Obama.
Didn’t listen. Didn’t watch. Couldn’t bear it. Knew all I needed to know by the time this evening rolled around. But, #108 SukieTawdry’s comment describes exactly what I can imagine from dealing with past Obama speeches. A hollow man. Lifeless, unless, of course, he speaks of himself.
Brilliant that, announcing a date for our withdrawal. And that would, of course, be irrespective of how things look on the ground. For crying out loud, what’s the point, Mr. Obama????
Well boys lets just lay low in our caves and dream of those virgins for the next year and a half. Don’t take any chances, just set up the occasional ambush than disappear, they’ll be out soon and we can pick up where we left off.
I can’t believe how stupid it is to tell the enemy when you’re going home, how dumb is that? Obama, you’re still an idiot.
I haven’t listened to that blowhard yet and I look forward to seeking out alternate programming regardless of how mediocre it is any time he shows up for a presidential steaming pile of idiotic horse manure, oops…address.
I knew he was fake the first time he addressed the Rev. Wright fiasco. He was on Fox News and he stumbled over his words, went through a litany of uhs and basically said nothing of substance. My wife was a convert at the time and I told her “Where’s that eloquence now? Where’s that self assured, confident demeanor? If you vote for him, you’re basically voting for his speech writer.”
A pox on the idiots that voted for King Idiot based on a fairy tale.
After the Obama speech, Chris Matthews said our commander in chief was brave to have delivered his speech in the enemy camp. Strange to think of
West Point as the enemy camp. But I guess if you’re Obama the Neo—Com, The Point qualifies.
Half way into the speech, when Obama was spitting out his litany of “There are those” machine gun style, I get this deja vu moment.
Years ago, Dad and I caught a really boring movie, Yentl. A couple of people actually applauded at the end of the movie. Must have felt like the cadets felt when they were told to politely stand and clap.
After Obama’s second, “let me be clear about this” a cadet yawned. Followed by five cameramen, and a brigade of cadets. A funny sight.
Okay, let me make some observations. When the first black President gives a war speech at West Point, (who’s also an
avowed marxist), I’ve got to take everything that comes out of his pie hole with a grain of salt.
Look, when he was a kid in Indonesia, the flap eared pipsqueak refused to play RISK because the board game reminded him of war. Obama’s not only anti-war. He’s anti-everything that smacks of America. This puke didn’t take his Chevy to the levy. He took his Mercedes to the local young radicals for Mao meeting.
Back to present day.
During the speech, the brown eyed handsome man said we’d lost our innocence somewhere during Vietnam. Is that how he thinks of us? A country full of people guilty as charged? Maybe that’s why he travels the world apologizing to every two bit tin horn dictator he rubs elbows with.
Boys and girls, how many of you realize that we’ve got a President who refuses to salute the flag unless there’s a camera present. This guy’s best Chicago buddy, Billy Ayers, got his kicks stomping on an American flag during a cover page photo for Chicago Magazine. Later that night, they got together over beers at Su Casa on Ontario, my old stomping grounds. Well, this domestic terrorist swigging his foreign beer, and his Obama boy toy still laugh about that night.
Worse, this north end of a south bound horse President, besides not knowing how to win a war, or even wanting to fight one, is doing an effective job of bankrupting us.
Stimulus I price: 3 trillion and change. Filled with the earmarks he promised to do away with. Number of jobs produced: Lies about the figures just like global warming people make up their temperature figures. They’re all in cahoots.
And don’t forget, Obama nationalized our car companies so he can spread the wealth (to his cronies), while continuing to shove ObamaCare down our throats to the tune of another 5 trillion over 10 years.
And he’s so caniving.
ObamaCare is front loaded with tons of taxes, yet benefits (and I use that word lightly) don’t kick in for six years.
And, remember, as an Illinois Senator, he helped lay the groundwork for the sub-prime crisis, thinking, if elected President, with the help of election stealing ACORN, he would nationalize a few giant banks because it’s an easy way to get his hands on billions of dollars that aren’t his to hold.
Yet, think about it.
When Obama steals taxpayer money, who’s gonna catch him? The dirtiest attorney general in the history of the United States? Eric Holder? Who let voter intimidating Black Panthers go free by dropping the open and shut case against them. And did you hear what Holder did yesterday? Got the union goons off with a slap on the wrist; the goons who beat up that black guy after a town hall meeting three months ago. Put pressure on the local DA to plead it down to a $50.00 fine “incident”. The poor guy is beaten within an inch of his life and Holder gets the union goons off with a little fine.
People, I’m not kidding you. This administration is so dirty and greedy they’ll steal fifty cents from a blind beggar on the street.
Tonight your commander in chief gave a speech. If he were hooked up to a lie detector, the needles would be spinning like a drunk Kennedy.
Need more things that’ll make Barack smile as he lays down in his West Point bunk?
Take Sonia Sotomayor, most outrageously, overly bigoted woman in American. Who Obama nominated.
“Any Hispanic woman is more intelligent than a white male.” She doesn’t even say, “I was taken out of context. I was misquoted”. She stands by her statements. Sotomayor is a racist nazi cow. And, thanks to O’numbnuts, she’s now she’s on our Supreme Court.
Oh, ya, remember Obama’s marxist professor friend? Hank Gates. Was arrested for racist over-the-top rants directed at arresting officer, Sgt. Crowley. So Obama, factless as he is feckless, calls Crowley a stupid racist. Charges against bigoted pal professor Gates are dropped. That’s our self described “post racial President.”
The only people Holder and Obama want to prosecute are white CIA types who worked for Bush when some prisoners were made to walk around nude wearing woman’s underwear.
America, Obama is the marxist hack you elected President. You gave this turn key dirty Chicago politician the keys to our country, and now nobody I talk to will admit voting for him. Anybody who did vote for him should hold their index finger over a lighted flame for ten seconds so they never forget what a mistake they made. Either that, or mail yourself to Siberia where Lenin and Stalin sent non-believers by the millions, killing disloyal Russians almost as fast as Barack’s executive orders have killed the unborn with late term abortion, a procedure similar to one practiced by the Japanese in Nanking re 1939 when the WWII Japanese knights of bushido threw Chinese babies into the air and tried to catch them, not using their hands, but by bayoneting their heads.
President Barack Obama. He’s needs impeaching real bad.
Less than 1 minute into the speech he went out of his way to praise Islam as one of the worlds greatest religions!!!! When can we impeach this imposter???
I pray for our troops going into this hell hole of a ‘necessary good war’ and facing an enemy that has been giving their game plan.
I find it hilarious that Chris (“thrill up the leg”) Matthews found the cadets to be not “warm” enough to their incompetent Commander-in-Chief.
But, referring to West Point as “the enemy camp?” That was over-the-top, even for someone such as Matthews — who is so fond of hyperbole.
Still, there’s no denying that Team Obama failed in its attempt at creating effective stagecraft. The soldiers-in-training were less than wowed by Obama — and it showed.

Sukie:
“Boring speech, lifeless delivery. You come away with the impression that he didn’t believe a damn thing he said.”
I had a different impression: He DOES NOT WANT to build public support for the mission.
During the “dithering” stage he…
—had meeting after meeting after meeting
—scolded McChrystal by leak
—had his economic team say it will cost too much
—framed the venture in “exit strategies” rather than victory
—harped on Karzai’s weaknesses
—never sought to buck up public support despite polls showing sharp drops in support.
For some time now, I’ve believed he WANTED public support to fall…to the point he could refuse the troop increase, citing the public’s opposition. Even when he snuck up to Dover in the middle of the night, he didn’t address the public. That was at a point where we’d suffered our highest losses since the war began. His silent tribute spotlighted those losses with no balancing effort to reiterate why their sacrifice was necessary. Was that another intentional effort to drive down support?
Alas for the White House, they couldn’t drive down support enough to give the president cover for withdrawal. He had to do what he did tonight. But he did it his way. No way he’s going to urge on the mission or rally public support. He needs that public support to stay low so he can pull out as soon as possible.
You might say it’s the opposite of “leadership”. He wants to FOLLOW public opinion.
Obama is the kind of useless, feckless guy who’s only good for screwing women … and I very much doubt he’s good at that cuz he doesn’t like women much.
#117 – Great insight. Perhaps he was hoping to be able to get out of following through on his campaign premise of “the Good War”: Just hoping to wait out public patience with the war.
Probably would have worked if the MSM weren’t on his side. If they had denounced every damned casualty, like they did with Bush, perhaps support would have fallen, and he’d've gotten his wish. Because they refuse to smear him, he’s stuck with his war. He owns it. Poetic justice.
Poor guy. Senator Obama’s mouth was writing checks that President Obama’s ass can’t cash.
Obambi looked mad cuz he has to send Americans to kill Muslims. He’d far prefer that the killing were the other way around. That’s why he hates President Bush with an unrelieved passion: President Bush authorized the war and sent the bombs that killed hundreds of thousands of Muslim jihadists. Obambi blames President Bush not only for those jihadist deaths, but he also blames Dubya for all the Muslims slaughtered by their fellow Muslim terrorists. As long as Obambi is president, he’ll never have a good word to say about Dubya cuz, in Obambi’s world, Dubya and America were at war with Islam. Never mind it was Islamics who started the fight, likely, Obambi thinks America should not have responded. Maybe he expected us to bow like he did.
Dear President Bush:
Would you mind stepping out of retirement for a few days and tell us what the hell we need to do?

113. raging peoples:
Well, I managed to worm my way through your bulimic rant to find this . . .
“The poor guy is beaten within an inch of his life and Holder gets the union goons off with a little fine.”
Really? This is the GCD (Great Conservative Deceit) . . . relentless victimhood where it doesn’t exist. Gladney is a complete fraud . . . claims to have been brutally assaulted but doesn’t have a mark on him and is seen in the video walking around just fine, no evidence that he suffered any harm whatsoever in the incident. What exactly were his injuries? Next day he shows up with a wheelchair and a lawyer. (And you want tort reform.) The incident didn’t even rise to the level of a misdemeanor, for god’s sake. I’ve seen worse things happen in a 6th grade basketball game. Then again, Gladney wasn’t the first unemployed, uninsured tea-bagging drama queen, and he won’t be the last.
“Ooh, look out! It’s Martha Stewart! She’s walking this way and she’s got a . . . . OW! . . . OWIE OW! . . . She touched my arm with that cupcake as she passed by! . . . OW! . . . Somebody, please, help! . . . Call 911 . . . and my lawyer . . . and Fox News.”
And so the cause that you will so faithfully lead becomes clear . . . hyperbole. Better bone up, you have a lot of competition.
As to the protocol instructions, this is a question mark to me.
When I was graduating from the military language school, in 1980, we were prepped as to proper protocol whilst in the auditorium. Our commanding General was to preside. We were instructed that, when the proper song for our General’s rank was played (Ruffles and Flourishes), we were to stand at attention while it played. (Every rank of General has its own song.)
What they failed to tell us, is that they would be playing every military branch’s song. (All the services’ linguists attended that school.) They began with the Army song, “Caissons”. I stood at attention for the Army song. No one else did, except the Army Sgt. Major on stage. My classmates were giving me the usual evil eye, but I persisted. (Almost no one liked me. I was always way off-script with them.)
When they played the Marine corps anthem, “Halls of Montezuma”, all the Marines jumped to attention. Then the Navy boys did the same for “Anchors Aweigh”, and the Zoomies for “Wild Blue Yonder”. All the while, they all wore this shit-eating grin, knowing they were rubbing the Army’s noses in their gross breach of protocol.
See, it is important to cover these things, but no one thought it necessary to tell the Army boys to stand at attention for the Army song. This is something that is taught in Basic Training. The Ruffles and Fourishes thing was not common knowledge, so they prepped us for it.
Did they need to remind the cadets of their obligation to their CinC? I seriously doubt it, but they were covering their asses. Any breach of protocol by the cadets would likely end some officer’s career. Was such a breach likely? With other Presidents, no. This one, however, is polarizing. Most military lean Right… far Right. Thus, the cautionary, “Be polite, boys and girls.” (Tepid applause breaks out! Mmm, not so much.)
By the way, I hear that the aforementioned Sgt. Major at my graduation was fuming afterwards. I hit the road right after the ceremony, but those who were still around for the subsequent “fireworks”, told me he had a shit-fit! “Hundreds of damned Army soldiers, many of higher ranks, and the only ones standing for the Army song is me and some lone damned PFC in the back! Flayed skins! Still beating hearts!” Another buddy in a class behind me told me the other services never let him live it down.
I still can’t decide if it were better for me to have stayed (mighta gotten a commendation out of it), or best that I left when I did, so I didn’t become a focus for his wrath.
If you listen to the very beginning of the speech Obama sounds nervous…he has a slight tremor in his voice which he gets under control. That is something I recognize because I’m the same way when I’m forced into doing any public speaking.
I would have liked to see the response if he had delivered this speech at a local VFW, where bs is instantly recognized.
Re #121:

President Bush, of all people, is not going to advise anybody on how to violate the Constitution. We elected BHO to be our President, and now he’s ours; we have almost three years to grimly remind ourselves that our votes matter.
Besides, hasn’t GWB been through enough? Give the poor man his well-deserved rest.

When will US “conservatives” and the Republicans call BS, this is treachery? Soon the list of class-warfare inducing, anti-US, anti-business seditious activities, corruption, graft and outright theft perpetrated by this administration and Congress will be too long to include in a soundbite. I could fill this page (near infinite) with examples.
The Left infests the operating system. Shutdown. Scrub, reload, reboot. It’s the scrubbing part that tests me. Which parts stay, which go? Or, must it all be stripped bare? If we can’t expect to fix it, then it’s not worth the Herculean effort it must surely take.
E.G., Do we allow this thieving commisariat-in-the-making to run for re-election, if we are lucky enough to ever unseat them?

Given the severity of the situation, I’d appreciate some feedback. Seems to me that unless we agree on what our future is going to look like, we won’t be able to enlist enough of the right people to make it worth the extraordinary effort required. It’s Nation rebuilding, or it aint.
We’re already outnumbered til 2010. US insurgents. And on the way, the incumbents will be using OUR money, in unthinkable amounts, to campaign against US, suppress the conservative voice, “datamine for dirt” and defraud the vote; and/or add to their personal stashes.
Or, loudly admit we intend to re-instate waterboarding. And expand Gitmo, at least to incarcerate “everyone who voted for the bill without reading it.” That’s plain theft, given their oath. If it can’t be successfully prosecuted as such, we’re already kulaks. Payin’em to rob US, while granting legal “immunity”?
The Strategy of the Left clearly calls for whatever drastic measures are necessary; maybe with headquarters in IL. What are our measures? !35RRMike,
Yeah, and the VFW crowd wouldn’t be “ordered” silent.
63. Forget Axelrod, those cadets will be in a heap of trouble when their CO finds out. Falling asleep during a speech by anyone, let alone the President, is a serious breech of discipline, and for that matter, cadets are supposed to nudge anyone near them they see falling asleep.
So many people like to make so much of so little to imply a political bias in the military. That was simply the head of the school reminding his charges to behave.
Having been at West Point as both a cadet and a professor, I can assure you that that reminder was not normal. No one had to remind the cadets about behavior when President Reagan visited.
It may even have been a subtle dig at Obama. Normally if you’re going to prep the audience for the camera, you do it off-camera. Has anyone ever seen the APPLAUSE sign on-air in any TV show that wasn’t making fun of it? The WP commandant may have been sending a message, like the Hanoi Hilton POWs used eyeblinks to spell out T-O-R-T-U-R-E in Morse Code during their filmed “confessions”.
129. Pretty difficult when the potential nudgers are also asleep.
Duty. Honor. Country. That’s what epitomizes West Point.
Lying. Cheating. Hatred of freedom, liberty and country. That’s what epitomizes President Obama.
Obama should be giving speeches to our best and brightest. Obama doesn’t have the qualifications to shine their shoes.
The USMA cadets study military history–they know how Wellington’s reserves at Waterloo endured enemy shot and shell, unable to fight back until the order was given for them to join the battle. The cadets must have envied those men during that speech….
Man, if I were in uniform under a CiC who just told the enemy that no matter how many Americans die in battle we’re getting out in 2011 so the President can run for another term, I would put my head down and wait until I could get out of the service.
Obama all but told those soldier and Marines, “Any of you who dies in the next two years will have thrown your life away for nothing.”
131. Yeah, I know, but it’s still a major breach of discipline. If you can’t stay awake in your seat, get up, walk to the back, and stand at attention/parade rest for the rest of the speech. This never would have happened with ROTC cadets/midshipman.
132. rp:
“Duty. Honor. Country. That’s what epitomizes West Point.
Lying. Cheating. Hatred of freedom, liberty and country. That’s what epitomizes President Obama.”
Let’s pick a few choice words out of that string . . . “West Point” . . . “cheating”.
Ring a bell? Do a Google?
You either support the use of universal statements or you don’t. Which is it? Let me be clear, I couldn’t care less which you pick, but it’s gotta be one.
Anybody notice how, at what Chris Matthews and MSNBC call the Enemy Camp, (west point) every time President LocoBama said the word, “terrorist” he seemed to choke it out like he was a cat coughing up a fur ball?
I’m still wondering why LocoBama forgot to spit out the strategy he said he’d been working on for the last four months, letting U.S. soldiers
get picked off one by one by snipers because Barack couldn’t make a decision. Sending 30 thousand reinforcements to Afghanistan isn’t a strategy.
Maybe the reason YoBama sat on the decision was that nobody in her inner numb nut circle knew what a strategy is. Maybe they were too embarrassed to give Cheney a call and find out.
Incidentally, one of my old boyfriends who’s a plebe at the point called me up after the speech and said he went up to Obama, and
said, President Obama, “you’re an ass.” Personally, I don’t believe him. But I guess anything’s possible.
Like all this lying and cheating by the climate scientists to make sure the U.S. government funding kept rolling in; about 2 billion per annum.
If those university egg heads are going to waste my Dad’s tax money, he says he’d rather they spent it on hot dogs, women and beer.
Caught Glenn Beck tonight. In rare form. Spit up after saying his third sentence. Seems every other night, he really tears LocoBama a new one.
I can’t tell you how angry he gets my old lib friends from school. I know some kids that, if they met Glenn in person, they’d Michelle slap him from one side of his head to another.
Really, Obama should take a page out of Tiger’s book and get rid of that half man, half fembod that Obama’s married to. The brown eyed handsome man, I think, is cute as a button. What possessed him to marry that ape? Better question, though, why does he stayed married to her. Last night, I dreamed that there was a news flash on TV that Michelle had climbed the empire state building and was holding Obama in his paws threatening to drop him if he didn’t get her old job back at the U. of Chicago when they get trounced in the 2012 election.
Barack’s mistake politically has been trying to turn this into a Neo—Com country too fast. People don’t like their spent taxpayer money thrown into their unemployed faces. You wouldn’t believe the big Pharma money pouring into conservative groups that are being taught how to do guerrilla
marketing 101. When you’re out manned, out gunned and outspent, you gotta out nasty and out think the enemy.
Speaking of the enemy.
Now and Then:
I read your stuff, and I’m not ignoring you. It’s just that I hardly ever respond because I always wanna stay on the offensive. My hyperbole gets under every Obama troll’s skin. Don’t let it bother you.
Regarding staying on the offensive. Check how many down days the 80th infantry (blue ridge) division had during WWII. They hit the beach at Utah on Aug. 25, 1944 and virtually didn’t stop until reaching Austria and Czechoslovakia where the Germans yelled Uncle. Patton led a regiment to relieve Mcaulliff at Bastone on Dec. 25, but the rest of the third army keep motivating through France,
undermanned, but out thinking the Germans, taking a shinola-load of prisoners along the way. My Uncle got the P-38 I carry today from one of them. Germans. Great soldiers.
NAT, in a month my first videos will be on youtube. I want you to watch them and tell me what you think. Everything will be topical stuff about Obama. Not Swift boat type stuff, very light handed and subtle. The opposite of the idiots at Planned Parenthood who come right out and tell you what they want you to think. You can’t just say it. You gotta be it.
Like the moronic “just say no” anti smoking campaign, a 20 million dollar waste of money. Show great looking high school kids coughing a lot. That’s how to do it. I swear, there are more amateurs stinking up marketing and the media; it hits my last nerve.
Anyway, it’s three in the morning, and sack time. Remember, stay on the offensive. Let the enemy take a shot at you, but instead of responding, find a bunch of them huddled together in a bomb crater and lob a grenade. This political stuff with Obama isn’t politics. It’s much more serious than that. If it’s 1943 and you’ve been rotting on Guadalcanal for five months, you don’t take prisoners. Don’t believe me. Check the prisoner count for that 7 month battle. If Barack is going to run a vicious non-stop campaign, and you can feel the tide of battle turning like I do, you don’t stop for tea and crumpets. That’s why the Brits under Monty weren’t worth saving at Dunkirk. Over and out.
137. rp:
Your hyperbole doesn’t bother me, it’s your disingenuousness, as so clearly illustrated in this Gay Bailey Hutchison clip:

Still wondering about those troop deployments? Here’s an idea, spend less time trying to sound subtle and more time standing on principle. You now . . . be it.
Bill won.
look here simpletons: get hip and get over it.. we have a black guy running the show now and he continue to do so for another 7 years… like it or not.. you can moan and groan all you want. at this point you do not MATTER anymore… He will go down as the president we had…. if bush and the rest his lying POS would not have fabricted the existence of WMD’s we would not be having this discussion. instead we would have had all of our resources in Afghanistan not in Iraq… by the way let me ask all of hogh school drop out simpletons a question:
what did president Bush do that benifitted the Iranian governmet beyond their imagination? now let me see how smart you folks are..Stephen Green: please join us here and let me see how smart are you…
132. Crimes of moral turpitude will get you expelled from a service academy. For upperclassmen, this comes with a hefty fine as well.
This commentary is highly uneducated. You don’t seem to remember that Bush made people sign forms when they were present for any speeches saying they would stand and applaud, or be told to leave. What about the people who were kicked out because of certain text on their t-shirts not favoring Bush? Bush made people sign forms saying they would do these things. And you want to scrutinize Obama for not making them sign the same documents? Completely unintelligent and insulting to the practice of ethics and free speech.
This entire rant was nothing more than moaning and groaning as another person put it. I have never seen someone be so picky with every single word the president delivered. You do realize Obama has the same speechwriters who wrote for Bush? If you only knew how ironic it was to mince the words in the speech from the same speechwriters…That being said, way to be INCREDIBLY biased and no where near the realm of moderate. Why is Obama having a hard time politically? Its not because he is a leftist, that is becoming one of the dumbest arguments around. He’s having a hard time because he’s NOT TAKING SIDES! He’s being a sane, level headed moderate, just like he has been since the very beginning. He’s not being a leftist by sending 30,000 troops to war. He’s not being a rightwinger either, and my argument for this is that he cares about humanity and civilian life. On day one, Obama ended our torture program and several weeks or months into office, made a call to not fire on or endanger civilians if they were present. It took the entirety of Bush’s presidency, and he still couldn’t come out and say “We’re going to do something about all these civilians who are dying in the crossfire.” Does no one in the entire republican party understand that killing innocents is exactly why there are so many people fighting the US.
Let’s not go down the road of “Ok, Al Qaeda, just wait until we leave and then you can start fighting us again.” The Taliban and these other groups of militants get their “power” from times when America is uncertain about its direction. To constantly argue that a timetable is a “date for surrender” is only fueling the uncertainty that comes with withdrawing troops. Do you REALLY think, after everything that has been said, that Obama is going to up and leave on that date, regardless of the conditions on the ground, then I pity you, because I’m not sure how many times they have to articulate otherwise. But that’s something that the republican base keeps ignoring and just doesn’t get. Obama is being a leader, and the republican’s are doing everything they can to undermine him. This is treasonous behavior on a massive scale, of people who don’t even realize they are contributing to the undermining of our government. I’m not accusing republicans of treason (other than Dick Cheney, for obvious reasons), but I am accusing them of behaving in a treasonous fashion by constantly skewing Obama’s words and messages, and by constantly insisting Al Qeada will be able to hide until we leave. If all the firepower in the world hasn’t been able to stop them yet, I doubt a “goal” will be what wins the war for them.
But back to the nonsense, drunken rant, my feeling is you saw “Does not work well with others” on your report cards frequently. Just because you disagree with someone doesn’t mean you have to be a douchebag.
A Masque Next To Ground Zero by Hal Lindsey
The plan is to build a 13-story Muslim mosque and cultural center literally only a few hundred feet from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. The leader of the project, Imam Abdul Rauf, says that the mosque is intended as a gesture to build “bridges between faiths.” Another proponent claims that the mosque, which will occupy the site of a 152-year old building that suffered damage in the 9/11 attack, is really a “celebration of America’s religious tolerance.” Why would a religion founded on fealty to one law, one leader, and one god — a religion whose modern defining characteristic is its intolerance of all other faiths and traditions — actually “celebrate” America’s religious diversity. That’s the very thing Islam HATES about us. How could a religion that reduces women and girls to mere chattel and considers all non-Muslims to be second-class citizens conceivably “celebrate” a non-Muslim society that believes all humans are created equal in God’s sight? It’s laughable. Yet our leaders and the media-types have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. Are they that stupid or have they been intimidated into acquiescence? New York City already has more than 100 mosques. We’ve already proven that we really are an open, tolerant society. To say with a straight face that this is Islam’s celebration of America’s religious tolerance would be like the Southern Baptists building a church in Amsterdam’s infamous Red Light District to “celebrate” Holland’s sexual promiscuity. It doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t make sense.
I’ll tell you why the Muslims insist on putting a 13-story mega-mosque (which, by the way, will eerily resemble a World Trade Center tower) within earshot of Ground Zero. It will be nothing less than a traditional act of Islamic triumphalism. It’s a symbol of conquest. Although the Muslims have changed the name of the proposed structure to “Park 51 Mosque,” the campaign to build it is still called “The Cordoba Initiative.” For all of you Progressives, and Liberals who are supposed to be intellectual but who can’t change the oil in your own car (like Barry Barack Hussein), I’m going to share with you a short history lesson about the symbolism of “Cordoba” in the Islamic mind. And trust me, the Muslims are big on symbolism.
The world should know that the ‘Cordoba Initiative,’ the New York City based organization desiring to construct a massive Islamic house of prayer at ‘Ground Zero,’ has posted on its website, a peculiar and disingenuous statement indicating the desire to bring back the atmosphere of, “interfaith tolerance and respect that we have longed for since Muslims, Christians and Jews lived together in harmony and prosperity eight hundred years ago.”
I point this out because contemporary scholarship has clearly demonstrated that there was no ‘harmony’ or ‘prosperity’ for non-Muslims in Islamic Spain. The Cordoba Initiative is attempting to revisit some sort of mythical “tolerance and respect” which never existed.
What is irrefutable is that living under Islam, the non-Muslim population was always mandated to submit to Islam, accept discriminatory laws, and make payment of a mandatory Quranic tax imposed upon every non-Muslim. For a period of about 800 years, most of Spain was ruled by Muslims and this area was known as ‘Al-Andalus.’ Islamic rule ended in 1492, when the city of Granada, the last Muslim kingdom in Western Europe, capitulated to the Spanish Catholics.
The Cordoba Initiative is an organization whose very name makes reference to what was, 1,000 years ago, one of the world’s most advanced cities, Cordoba, Al-Andalus (Spain). This was a city that was politically and religiously dominated by Islam, and a city that was conquered by jihad (holy war). Today, there are Islamic groups such as Al-Qaeda that have a dream of seeing a pan-Islamic world that would extend from old Al-Andalus (Spain). This is based upon Islam’s principle of dar-al-Islam, which means a world where Islamic sovereignty prevails over the citizenry. Dar-al-Islam is attained through jihad and the media is replete with Al- Qaeda’s calls for jihad and their claims to Al-Andalus and its major cities such as Cordoba.
Clearly, Islamic Cordoba was once a city where a number of intellectual Muslims such as Averroes (Ibn-Rushd), influenced European thought with Arab philosophy related to the scientific teachings of Aristotle. In mathematics, the Arabs built upon the foundations of Greek mathematicians. At one point there were dozens of free schools in Cordoba for the education of poor Arabs and at some point there existed some 600 mosques. However, even with all of this scholastic and societal grandeur, the route to get to such a point of magnificence was through violent warfare.
Not only were successive battles for Spanish cities bloody, but desiring more than Spain–the Arabs declared a jihad against France, then crossed the Pyrenees, and in successive swarms spread over the southern regions of the French countryside, slaughtering the Christians by thousands, and burning their churches to the ground before being halted.
We must remember that a practice associated with conquering Islamic armies was the construction of a mosque at the location where their triumphant battle was won. Thus, this modern Islamic organization is seeking to build a mosque at the site of 9/11 attack—an attack which was carried out by 19 Muslim hijackers who considered their mission holy war.
Insomuch, it is this man’s opinion that a Muslim house of prayer that would be cemented in the ashes of catastrophe at the foot of New York’s lost Twin Towers would be a symbolic victory flag for Muslims who seek the destruction of America. Further, it is my honest opinion that no matter how the construction of a mosque at ‘Ground Zero’ may be perceived by well-meaning Americans, the construction of a mosque on the spot where Al-Qaeda brought jihad to the United States will unquestionably represent victory to the worldwide forces of Radical Islam.
I was recommended this web site by means of my cousin. I’m not certain whether this post is written through him as nobody else know such certain about my trouble. You are wonderful! Thanks!
