A campaign – fancifully initiated by Claudia Rosett at her PajamasXpress blog – to raise money independently to pay United Nations ambassador John Bolton’s salary has picked up a surprising head of steam. The intention of this campaign is to enable President Bush to reappoint Bolton via another recess appointment, avoiding an extremely difficult confirmation process in Congress. A second recess appointment would have meant no salary for the UN ambassador.

God Bless Claudia Rosett, for her initiative and forsight. Here’s a woman who understands the importance of the reconfirmation of John Bolton. I went to Blogging for Bolton and made 17 calls so far to senators asking for their support for Mr. Bolton. Do it for the good of our nation. Thank you Claudia!!
Ah, genius.
You do realise that confirmation by Congress confers some sort of democratic legitimacy on proceedings? Are such niceties to be avoided indefinitely?
Ya know, that rule about not paying people whom you want to go away is there for a reason.
It makes them want to go away too.
Howabout we hold out for someone good this time?
