DOJ Tells U.S. Soldiers: Go Bother Someone Else!
The Department of Justice has launched a new website to rehabilitate its damaged reputation among uniformed servicemembers. Good luck, because servicemembers have figured out that this administration is not their friend, particularly in protecting their right to vote. It is an effort to put more “lipstick on the military voting pig.”
If you serve in the military, don’t waste your time looking for help through the website. The DOJ doesn’t want to hear from you.
The website is www.servicemembers.gov. “The Department of Justice, in partnership with other federal agencies, is committed to enforcing the federal laws that protect the civil rights of servicemembers,” it harrumphs. But does DOJ act in a timely way to protect men and women in uniform? Hardly.
Congress has figured it out. Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez recently testified to the House Administration Committee about what a great job his Voting Section did. The members were not persuaded. Said Representative Aaron Schock:
Some election authorities were derelict in their duty, but were let off too easy by the U.S. Department of Justice and it was the military personnel serving overseas who paid the price by not being allowed to participate in an American election.
Worse for Perez, Chairman Dan Lungren also wasn’t convinced. Lungren found it:
… disturbing that the Department of Justice touted their own success in implementing the MOVE Act when their efforts clearly failed to ensure all military ballots were mailed on time.
“Touted” is right. The Department has failed to ‘fess up to a single mistake from its failure to quickly and aggressively protect military voters in 2010. DOJ still never explained why it waited so long to sue Illinois or New York. DOJ tried to blame the Pentagon for its failure to issue guidance to states on how to comply with federal law or seek a waiver. And worst of all, the people most responsible for engineering the train wreck at DOJ haven’t been reprimanded.
In July 2010, Pajamas first reported that the Department of Justice had failed simply to update their own website with the new federal law which required ballots to mail overseas 45 days before the election. The DOJ website still informed state officials that it was acceptable to mail ballots 30 days before the election even though the new law extending the requirements to 45 days was signed nine months earlier.
During the same nine months, DOJ updated its webpage to help felons reacquire their lost voting rights. At least there is no mystery about the priorities of the Obama administration.

Somebody has to be held accountable
it’s about time, now
No problem. It’s Bush’s fault!
The people responsible for this mess are Becky Wertz and Julie Fernandez. The author describes them perfectly. Wertz can’t act to help and Fernandez doesn’t want to. She cares about felons getting on the voter rolls in time for 2012.
No it is actually Obama and Holder, this is what they want and apparently what they are getting vote Obama out of office in 2012 and ask you congressman and senator to impeach and convict and remove him from office!
I’m sure the last thing Eric Holder and his socialist cabal in the Obama administration really want to do is give a bunch of conservative service members the right to vote. For this alone he should be fired. But I’m sure that if there was one African-American in this country who wasn’t allowed to vote, he’d be on it like a fly on honey. Whenever I think Eric Holder can’t get any worse, I’m usually wrong. He isn’t even on top of this issue, let alone trying to fix it.
Are they on strike? Looks like it.
While they’re making a list of which departments to defund, DOJ should be high on the list. They’re getting a helluva lot of money for doing nothing.
There are two major swamps that need draining in the U.S. government. Justice is one, State is the other. Regrettably, on one thing you can rely: nothing will be done about these significant problems before 2013.
And probably not even then.
Pity.
You are a true conservative, you look for the good in people. Your suggestion is a good start. The Federal government is the swamp that needs draining. DOJ and DOS are currently the most visible. All are infested. Every department and agency need cleansing.
It would the DOJ is only interested in discrimination complaints by, “His” people. Provided they are not in the military desiring to vote. The Democrats have once again demonstrated they are ANTI-service member! Those who object PROVE me wrong, slurs and slander won’t cut it.
Still waiting for my absentee ballot for the 1980 election. Things do change, but similar ideologies produce predictable outcomes.
I’m still waiting from 1968.

RE: Heh
If DoJ wants to have all the service members who were disenfranchised by their malfeasance report to the Pentagon….
….I suggest that the DoD organize a special unit of all those disenfranchised fighting men and women and send that unit to the DoJ to ‘straighten’ them out. Or take them out.
Look upon it as taking action against ‘enemies domestic’ of the Constitution of the United States. It’s fulfilling the oaths they all took when they took on their duties in the military.

Great suggestion Chuck! Yes, it’s high time the DoJ gets taken down!

RE: Indeed
It would be ‘interesting’ to see the ‘action’ vis-a-vis the correlation of forces….
BATF & FBI vs an amalgam of Marines, Airborne-Rangers, Special Fecees, Tankers, Cannon-Cockers, Close Air Support, Submariners, etc., etc., etc…..
I’ll wager that there are more disenfranchised military persons than there are in ALL the BATF and FBI.
The ironic thing is that ALL of the potential combatants had taken an oath to PERSONALLY….
….uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic.
I’ll bet that between the two camps, one of them has violated their oath. Guess who. Three guesses. First two don’t count.
Holder and company are blatantly in violation of their Constitutional oaths and duties. Therefore, if Congress and/or the Courts don’t act to rectify the situation….
….what was it someone penned so long ago….
When in the course of human events….

[History repeats itself. That's one of the problems with History.]
P.S. We’ve seen what happened in Madison. We’ve seen the death threats issued against conservatives. We’ve heard that Jesse Jackson means to ‘escalate’ what is going on. We’ve heard Michael Moore ‘declare war’.
What will it take? Do we need REAL blood on the streets from conservatives to realize that these people mean EXACTLY what they are saying? Perhaps. But then again President Reagan waited until (1) Noriega ‘declared war’ on the US and (2) murdered a Marine officer to act in Panama.
P.P.S. Another famous statesman’s thoughts on what is going on today….
Our safety, our liberty, depends upon preserving the Constitution of the United States as our fathers made it inviolate. The people of the United States are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. — Abraham Lincoln
P.P.P.S. And…by the way….
….all the ‘indicators’ of late point to the so-called ‘Democrats’ as being the ‘bad guys’ President Lincoln was talking about in that quote (above).
Maybe it is time that we stop depending on the DOJ to do its job, since the DOJ has become heavily politicized and will not change until after the 2012 election at the earliest.
I think the only answer is to demand that the voting system be automated allowing our service men and women can vote over the internet from anywhere they are stationed in the world. (“End the Military Voting Scandal” at http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/10/end_the_military_voting_scanda.html)
This military disenfranchisement a recurring problem that appears after every election, but there is no end in sight.
We ask our military to risk their lives for this country, but we do not give them the courtesy to value their votes!
There is a BIG BLANK WHITE SPACE on the DOJ site, there WAS something there before… (silly me for NOT taking a screen shot the other day)
Things that make you go Hhmmmm!
Oh, those annoying, troublesome military people! It’s like they think they have civil rights or something!
Until probably the 2014 election, it seems like the best solution for this problem, since it is a state-by-state issue, is for groups like the VFW, American Legion and TEA party organizations to work with the families of deployed servicemen and women to facilitate the timely delivery of ballots. These organizations are here at home and can reach out to the appropriate voting officials to exert the pressure to get ballots delivered.

RE: You Apparently Don’t ‘Understand’
The requirement is that the county clerks send out the absentee ballots.
The growing body of evidence is that if the addressee for such a ballot even ‘smacks’ of being in the Armed Forces of the United States—and likely ‘conservative’ in political opinion….you can guess that because they’re willing to lay their very LIFE on the line for this country….as opposed to another group—those absentee ballots don’t quite make it to the USPS in a timely manner.
Organizing families and women to ‘expedite’ the mailings won’t help UNLESS you can get THEM to be the County Clerk.
Takes an ‘election’. Or maybe something of a ‘revolution’.

Chuck(le)
[The best way to steal an election is to be the county clerk.]
If I was a commander and one of my service members did not get his ballot on time, I would send him on temporary duty to his polling place and have my JAG officer send a bill for the amount of the travel voucher the guilty county clerk.
TO: Charles Martel
RE: An Interesting Idea
However, remember that the DoJ and the ‘guilty county clerks’ get the money your system would demand of it from US, i.e., the taxpayers.
I’m not keen on putting a ‘bandage’ on the problem. I’m more interested in curing the ill at the ‘root cause’.

Chuck(le)
P.S. The ‘Indirect Approach’ works in many instances, But I doubt if it will work effectively in THIS ONE.
This goes beyond shameful and disgraceful. Eric Holder and his crew of political appointees and “Progressive” (Socialist) ideologues should all be hauled before a Congressional hearing and be (figuratively) be roasted on a spit, televised on C-Span.
It is unconscionable that the voting rights of those who voluntarily put themselves in harm’s way, away from home and family, not be a top priority of the DOJ Voting Rights Department. Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez should have been fired and prosecuted over the New Black Panther voter intimidation debacle, but this should be the final nail in his professional coffin. He does not deserve one dime of taxpayer money.
If, after reading this, you still have any doubt that the current administration is not only incompetent, but also corrupt, then you should be considered a hopeless Obamazombie.
‘Oddly’, our absentee ballots in Bosnia were ‘late’ as well during the ’96 election.
Don’t fret, people. I’m going to put on black face makeup, go the Pentagon and ask for a personal appointment with Eric ‘My people’ Holder and straighten out these shenanigans.
It’s far easier than finding ‘brown face’ makeup and ask for a vis-a-vis Julie Fernandez appointment.

This is just another facet of the voting fraud that takes place in this country. If they can’t win it, they will fix it. Where are our watchdogs? Where are our Congressmen? There should be a hearing on this outrage immediately! After which Holder should be cuffed and hauled away.
