Director of National Intelligence Clapper Comes A-Cropper of His Own Ignorance
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, testifying before the House Intelligence Committee today, stated that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is a largely secular, non-violent umbrella group.
I have quickly put together the quotes below from the Brotherhood’s former and current leaders. They clearly show that the Muslim Brotherhood is extremely religious and violent, and that former Supreme Guide Muhammad Mahdi Akef even supports Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda.
Mr. Clapper’s congressional testimony reveals that he simply doesn’t know what he is talking about regarding one of the most important topics for American policy considerations throughout the Muslim world, and particularly and immediately in Egypt.
The fact that the director of national intelligence is so ignorant of facts that are so easily amassed, and that he could lead U.S. policymakers so far astray from reality at such a crucial time, is inexcusable and grounds for his immediate resignation.
The following public comments were made by Muhammad Mahdi Akef, the supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, from 2004-2010. These statements well document Akef’s Salafi-jihadist orientation, anti-Americanism, and support of Osama bin Laden and a-Qaeda. They reveal that he and his Brothers are more than willing to resort to violence, including violence against the United States, to defend their Islamist ideals.
- On January 18, 2004, he stated: “But the bombings in Palestine and Iraq are a religious obligation. This is because these two countries are occupied countries, and the occupier must be expelled in every way possible. Thus, the Muslim Brotherhood movement supports martyrdom operations in Palestine and Iraq in order to expel the Zionists and the Americans.”
- On January 20, 2004, he stated: “In Israel, there should be no differentiation between a civilian and a member of the military. All are enemies of the Arab homeland and of Islam. They are occupiers and have no right to one handbreadth of the land of Palestine.”
- On January 18, 2004, he stated: “We have no relations with the U.S. It is a Satan that abuses the region, lacking all morality and law.”
- On August 17, 2004, he stated: “Islam considers the resistance to be Jihad for the sake of Allah and this is a commandment, a personal obligation [ fardhayn ] incumbent on all of the residents of the occupied countries. This commandment takes precedence over all other religious duties. Even a woman is obligated to go to war, even without her husband’s permission, and youth are permitted to go out and fight.”

What is the 800 pound gorilla in the room ?
That half the crowd currently running the United States government is dumber than boxes of rocks?
And the other half is driven by an idiotology that exists, and drives, quite independently of any and all “facts on the ground” ?
Nice work, Mr. Fairchild. Yes, Clapper must resign. His statements reveal that he is delusional.
And I second that motion!
I demand Clapper be fired. Going down the line I demand Hillary Clinton be fired. Then all other appointees for anything this President has put in place. But, who am I. Just an American Taxpayer and American Citizen. That means I am nobody and I am irrelevant. That means I do not have a voice in Washington. You go Obama and Biden and the Clintons. Hell awaits. When this administration opens it’s door and looks out it can see Hell way out there. When Hell reaches the door the real people of this country will have “Social Justice”. What a mightmare this is. WHO is running this country??
This guy is supposedly one of the bright bulbs…..On a serious note here…Really..you try and convince me that our President is not totally in the MB court…I mean c’mon…
I learned EVERYTHING I needed to know about ISLAM on 9/11/01. The Moslem Brotherhood represents ISLAM at its worse. Clapper is just another AMERICA-HATING COMMUNIST who would rather see the West destroyed than anything, since Islam and Communism are NOT DIFFERENT. Im wondering WHY we still have not brought the likes of CLAPPER, VAN JONES OR ANITA DUMB to trial for crimes agaisnt America is a mystery.
What an absolute disgrace. This man should be severely rebuked if not fired immediately. With these clowns at the wheel, from Obama to Holder to Napolitano to Hillary and the rest, this country is in serious peril. The damage they have wrought will take years, perhaps decades to undo.
G-d help us.
Could not have said it better myself! We should get out of all affiliations and dealing with the Middle East (except perhaps for business) purposes.
They do not want us there – and so be it! Our dumb asses in Washington are inviting trouble to its people they are sworn to protect against our enemies foreign and domestic…. With their ignorance.
Leave the Middle East. Get out. The Middle East is dependant on the rest of the world to feed it’s people. They use oil as a hammer to get goods, money and services from the rest of the world. The Middle East and Africa are sapping the resources of the worker bees in this world. Is that statement hard and mean, maybe so, but it is reality. Do your homework people. To do a good job on that you have to research past a hundred years. Wake up America, this mess is coming to a town, city or state near you. We are living in an era of “Lord of the Flies” children and incompetents are running our government.
Quite true, J.J.. In earlier days, there would have bee public cries for this moron’s firing post haste. Alas, in Obamatime, it’s
“all’s well…nothing to see/hear here…move on, after your involuntary contribution to the Democrats.”
I AGREE! Seems everyone in the government is under the same spell. Oblivious to what is really going on, the systematic dismantling and destruction of our way of life.
Since it is obvious the man is not stupid and since he has demonstrated his courage and love of country beyond any shadow of a doubt there is only one conclusion- he was ordered to make the statements he made.
Quite correct, and a dismaying observation.
I didn’t find out about this until I was on my commuter train home this evening, and nearly threw up. This is a disaster – this was official testimony to Congress, which is actively dangerous.
I cannot imagine why he didn’t resign rather than say something so contrary to truth.
Telling the boss what he wants to hear won’t get Clapper fired.
The parade of Obama’s clowns keeps marching on.
Other nations are getting this news, and seeing what a bumbling bunch of fools are at the helm of this government.
If we are attacked by another nation with nuclear weapons, I’m sure the first response will be to round up all hillbilly’s with a gun, and call them “homegrown terrorists”. This will cause all nations to laugh so hard at our incompetence, that they won’t be able to shoot straight, and take out another nation that has nothing to do with Western politics.
They pushed the red button, and got a huge laugh; So they’ll try the day-glo orange button just to see what it does.
The United States is begging for the largest war yet.
Forget the MB or two state solutions when it comes to Egypt – the whole country is on board when it comes to the dissolution of Israel. They may not necessarily be on board with the MB way of thinking or going about it but they are on board in principle; they main difference in my opinion is the most Egyptians tend to have a more political and culturally arrogant point of view rather than a specifically religious one and the priority is also completely different.
Yes the average Egyptian doesn’t like Israel and wishes it would go away but they’re not going to act on it while the MB has such thoughts on a somewhat more aggressive if similarly distant level in terms of actually achieving such a goal as the end of Israel. In the end one becomes much the same as the other since their is no way of either getting at Israel. The reason Egypt has been at peace has been because of the high cost of being beaten up by Israel and not because they want peace.
You can read a lot of moderate things from journalists and intellectuals and otherwise reasonable people in Egypt on a wide variety of subjects but when it comes to Israel their eyes glass over and they get that faraway look.
I have friends in Egypt that are very nice and rational people but when the subject of Israel comes up you start hearing about this Nile to the Euphrates nonsense and occupied Jerusalem. I always challenge them that if the Palestinian Arabs were Christians they wouldn’t care and then they start telling me absurd percentages of Palestinian Arabs are Christians but we all know the truth of it.
The truth of it is that Islam is always right and when it isn’t reality itself will be shifted to turn defeat into victory, immorality into morality, reality into dream and dream into reality. This is the greatest single cultural weakness of Islam in the middle east and why Islam is such a consistent failure compared to the West – Islam simply cannot wrap it’s head around common sense and in this regard the liberal politically correct version of this in the West that actually empowers such notions is to be looked at as a warning of the dangers of ‘doublethink’ and how easily one steeped in such nonsense can be disconnected from reality and so from success itself. No big surprise that liberal programs and solutions on the political Left are such notable failures or why the U.S. has suffered so where it has come into the greatest contact with liberal ideas; immigration, crime and education are only 3 examples but 3 monumental ones that are tearing apart cities and states.
What liberals and Islam both have in common is the not believing in the idea that to take a tough look at oneself and others is the real way to solve problems and not to eternally blame faceless racism and oppression from people you don’t know and cannot name, buzz words built around colonialism, imperialism and profiling, and so to throw unreal solution after unreal solution down a rabbit hole built around ideas that in their heart are utterly debauched.
In this scenario, lessons are not learned and nor is Islam a pupil to the causes of failure because there is no failure – not really, nor with liberals – just more people to be blamed who are in fact not even part of the problem. The cold calculation and common sense of Israeli armies is a hard match for the muslim inability to wrap its head around combined arms tactics when one of those combination’s involves wishful thinking.
I will say this outright because it is my opinion: what middle eastern muslims share with black Americans is the same utterly self-absorbed view of themselves as not only being the center of the world but the center of a world that disrespects them and thinks about them a hell of a lot more than that world actually does; that self-absorption is projected onto the world itself.
Generally speaking both cultures tend to blame their failures on others and to ascribe the most conspiratorial and mean spirited motives to those outside their own culture while completely ignoring their own shortcomings.
Neither culture will ever amount to squat until they learn to adopt a more empirical, fair-minded and reasoned view of the world and this goes for the liberal Left as well. To say that these cultures are guilty of having absolutely no interest in the greater good and an endemic world view that always seems to make themselves look a little better than they really are and the rest of the world a little worse than it really is is a polite understatement.
These are huge generalities but to adults who understand what a generality is worth I think they are true as far as they go.
Well said James May. Everyone reading today should pay close attention to the happenings in the Middle East. A Middle East pasteing itself together as in the European Union is frightening. I see our country enabling this to happen. You are living in “The Lord of the Flies” era America and you can only blame yourselves. Just call me a true Patriot.
Every morning I get up and tell myself “Believe, just believe”. That is not working because the American belief system is broken. It happened long before the Kenyan was elected. May all my fellow Americans have a blessed day. Sign off, X’s Child
It is not the first time this man has demonstrated his ignorance of common knowledge. If he is this delusional, to the extent he calls a religious organization devoted to the overthrow of all secular government in favor of sharia as secular, then he needs to leave his post. He is demonstrably unqualified.
Did you see the walkback by the agency afterward? It’s almost as mind-numbingly stupid as the original comment.
So if if he’s “well aware that the Muslim Brotherhood is not a secular organisation”, why exactly did he say that it is one? It seems as though the proffered explanation only makes sense in the context of the MB’s actions under the repressive hand of Mr. Mubarak. What are the odds that with Mr. Mubarak out of the way, the MB will choose to continue at working through secular avenues?
So much for the whole “best and the brightest” meme that this administration has tried to plant in the minds of the public. If these are the best and the brightest, we ought to just roll up the awnings, put a “4 Sale” sign in the window and leave.
Stunning Isn’t It?
Didn’t Mr. Mubarak get his current job by succeeding one Anwar Sadat – who was blown away by some triggermen ‘linked’ to the Muslim Brotherhood? Does Mr. Clapper remember this?
DNI Clapper’s confusion explains why Obama has been so on the attack against the Chamber of Commerce. They had them confused with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Another of Obama’s appointee proves that: Obama appointees are a Comintern of the Worst and the Weirdest!
The serial idiocy of Obama and his appointees is astonishing.
DNI=Director of National Ignorance? Nine-year old students with access to Wikipedia are better informed.
Incredible, could team 44 be more inept if they were trying to be…? Who is advising the advisers?
Yesterday or early today, the leadership of the Egyptian MB held a press conference. Each of the four or five men speaking on the dais had one of those Klingon scars that fanatical Muslims get on their forehead from hitting the pavement too hard while in frenzied prayer. The two swords framing the Koran which form the MB logo over a field of lurid green should have been a tip-off for this craven moron running our American intelligence. The scabs on their foreheads is a bit more subtle, but still…
Just another example of a political hack in a position to futher harm America. The bull dike at Homeland inSecurity, Billery at State, and DaOne at the White House.
It’s like some reprobate CFR agenda is in full swing. What’s the end game? A North American Union, a giant area of foaming at the mouth moon god worship, plus, a global currency?
This is a very frightening situation. This Clapper guy is a national disgrace. Makes America an international laughing stock. Nothing good is going to come from this administration being involved in the calamity in Egypt in any fashion. This guy has been clueless in the past about terrorism issues that even the public had been aware of for days. An incompetent, inept, liberal progressive nincompoop. Most likely holds America in scorn and contempt just like his boss. The Muslim from Kenya. With the help of this administration we will have a carbon copy of Iran in the middle east.
It would be funny if it weren’t so deadly serious.
It really is amateur hour at the White House. And they’re going to get us all killed.
I must be careful, in that I have known Mr. Clappers work since the Vietnam era through his ending service at DIA. Something signals a complete disconnect or even worse, some biological infirmity. I will steer clear of characterizing the good Generals military history except to say he was then a meticulous detailer. That said, I have spent some time trying to correlate his statement today, before the committee, to some viable strategy.
What audience was this misinformation directed towards? What was/is the positioning strategy? Was it his independent assessment or was he a messenger for others in the administration?
Sadly, I’m beginning to conclude that he is further establishing a disturbing trend of incompetence in his present service. NO competent intelligence director confronted with such line of questioning would have allowed the hearing and his answers to proceed in public record.
There may have been some strategy but it escape’s me, especially, if it was an administration message for consumption by the MB…for which there are far better and more effective methods and channels in which to deliver such communique.
Regardless, of what the facts may be, this administration is proving its incompetence almost minute by minute in critical and strategic analysis being applied to foreign relations.
HABU…any ideas?
This is not incompetence. Clapper knows what he is saying. Obama is trying to set the American people up to accept the Muslim Brotherhood as an acceptable power player.
Clapper’s testimony is not Not NOT incompetence. The misinformation, i.e, lying, is deliberate, meant to deceive the congressional committee, the Congress, the American people — any and all willing to believe it — and the policy comes right from the top, Obama, the president himself.
One might say it’s a mark of incompetence that Obama thinks the people will believe this claptrap. but even if we don’t believe it, so what? He’ll do as he pleases as long as he can get away with it. But in this matter, Obama’s aiding and abetting an avowed enemy of the United States.
If I’m not mistaken, according to the Constitution, this is a great big no no, right?
This is the same Mr. Clapper that got stumped by Diane Sawyer asking him about some major terrorism arrests in London that had been on the news all day. Than can be excused by having a busy day.
But these recent statements prove his general overall carelessness.
National Insecurity, Compliments of the CIA and ODNI
Most objective observers knew from the outset that the Community Organizer in Chief was in way over his head when America elected Barack Hussein Obama as president based primarily on his vague promises of hope and change.
We cringed with his various czar appointments and wondered about the people he installed as protectors of our national security. Leon Panetta at age 71 was awarded the post as CIA Director even though his experience and expertise in the areas of foreign intelligence were nil and then 69 year old James R. Clapper became our Director of National Intelligence.
Panetta’s chief claim to fame were his nine terms as a California congressman from California and his 4 years as Bill Clinton’s Chief of Staff. Panetta is a nothing more than a political hack. Retired Air Force Lt. General Clapper did have an intelligence background although you’d never know it.
The CIA is charged with furnishing “intelligence (or information) to the President, the National Security Council, and all other government officials who make and carry out US national security policy.” ODNI’s responsibility is to ”Ensure that timely and objective national intelligence is provided to the President, the heads of departments and agencies of the executive branch; the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and senior military commanders; and the Congress.”
Both the CIA and ODNI have failed miserably in their stated missions.
Tweedledum Panetta and Tweedledee Clapper have jointly reinforced Malcolm X’s and Obama’s favorite pastor’s line about America’s chickens coming home to roost. Panetta and Clapper have also reminded Americans that very people who are supposed to be keeping abreast of national security issues haven’t the vaguest clue as to what’s going on in the world.
When those chickens roost, America could be toast, for all they know. . .
