Did Clip of Brian De Palma’s Redacted Lead Frankfurt Shooter to Kill?

Arid Uka said he was motivated by a YouTube video of American soldiers raping a girl in Afghanistan. The likeliest source of such a clip is the De Palma feature. Also read about the NBA owner who financed the film at the Tatler.

As reported here on Pajamas Media, Arid Uka, who shot and killed two American servicemen at Frankfurt Airport on Wednesday, has told German police that he was motivated in part by a video that he saw showing American soldiers “plundering a house and raping a girl” in Afghanistan. According to Germany’s deputy Attorney General Rainer Griesbaum, Uka is supposed to have viewed the video on YouTube.

An Islamist propaganda video roughly matching Uka’s description is in fact to be found on YouTube. On November 20, 2010, a German-language YouTube user going by the name “24jasmina” uploaded the video under the title “American Soldiers Rape our Sisters! Awake Oh Ummah.” (Update: Shortly after the publication of this article, the video was removed by YouTube. It can currently be viewed on The Daily Caller here.) See the below screen-capture:

The video begins with roughly 80 seconds of footage apparently showing American soldiers marauding in a family’s home and raping a teenage girl. The footage appears to be filmed with a night vision camera and comes complete with vulgar and incriminating dialogue. At one point during the rape scene, gunfire can be heard off-camera and then a soldier on camera says: “I f****** killed them all.”

The same footage can also be seen on YouTube under the English-language title “Footage of Abeer Qassim.” The description specifies “rape footage of Abeer Qassim.” Unlike the German-language YouTube page, however, the English-language page indicates that the footage comes from the Brian De Palma film Redacted. In addition to the rape scene, the propaganda video on the German-language YouTube page contains three further scenes from Redacted.

De Palma’s 2007 release was largely made to look “as if” it was filmed by an amateur cameraman documenting real events. A disclaimer that is shown at the beginning of Redacted states that the film is “entirely fiction,” but “inspired by an incident widely reported to have occurred.”

The incident in question occurred in Iraq, not Afghanistan. The allusion is to the 2006 rape and murder of 14-year-old Abeer Qasim al-Janabi near Mahmudiyah, Iraq, and the murder of three other members of her family. Five American servicemen have been charged and convicted for their roles in the crime by American civilian or military courts. The principal suspect, Steven Dale Green, is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Someone’s gonna have a field day with those Turkish blockbusters, “Valley of the Wolves” and its sequel, movies so saturated with anti-Israeli (and anti-US “content”) that the German government has restricted their viewing by anyone under 18!!!!!! (or should that be “18 without an adult”?)

(Thank you, German government, for your discretion and pursuit of righteousness!!!!)

So who’s that “someone” gonna be?

    And who’ll be the victims?

  2. The Islamists and jihadists around the world must be laughing their bags off with so many useful idiots here in the west willing to do their work for them when it comes to propaganda. If American troops ever committed a “crime,” at least they were punished for it. But how many beheadings and murders of MUSLIMS have been committed by al Qaeda or the Taliban? Think about it. Many more Muslims have been killed by Muslims than by Americans. It doesn’t even come close and that’s a fact. The sectarian violence in Iraq and Afghanistan has claimed literally thousands of lives, yet you don’t hear much about that in the Muslim world. They are such a pathetic lot of liars, thieves, and murderers it’s a wonder why we even bother trying to change them. We should simply show them that if they ever, ever, attack us again we will come back and destroy them. Then we should simply leave and let them go back to slaughtering each other, like they did during the Iran-Iraq War.

And to think that some self appointed pastor with a congregation of six down in a bolthole in Florida threatening to burn the Koran was a threat to Western civilization. Where are the cries of warning NOW?

I’m looking forward to the MSM’s “full” coverage of Brian De Palma’s move into 1st place in the “Blood On Their Hands” category. Unlike Palin’s infamous “crosshairs map” that was blamed for the Tucson killings, but never seen by shooter Jared Loughner, Frankfurt murderer Arid Uka says he ACTUALLY VIEWED De Palma’s edited “rape” video. Oh, the incivility!

  5. Are any of the usual suspects that expressed such concern over Mrs. Palin’s “crosshairs” map going to express similar concerns over this film?

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

    Bueller?

Since when do Muslim men care about women? Muhammad allowed his men to rape captured women and keep them as slaves? (We on the other hand, jail such criminals for life.)

Old Soldier – I’ll go you one better: a woman in a Muslim country who is raped is considered the guilty party; she was so seductive that “guy” couldn’t help himself. The woman, being considered the guilty party, is flogged until dead. (It’s usually 100 lashes, but by 70, they’re not breathing; and some of those Muslim countries sit on the UN council for the rights of women; go figure.) So, whatever Brian de Palma did, or did not do, is besides the point. The clip of his is just an excuse for someone from the religion of pieces to lash out at the West, and particularly Americans.

Let’s put the shoe on the other foot: Suppose survivors or relatives of 9/11 went around shooting up random Muslims in America. What would our reaction be? It would be to condemn the shooters, and that would be the right thing to do. Bottom line: Only the perps and their co-conspirators are guilty; innocent bystanders are not.

      • DavidN

You guys are missing the point. To Muslim men, Muslim women are possessions. They’re a sign of manhood. You own two or three, wives, daughters and the like, and they’re *yours* to rape and abuse or not, as you choose. But *you’re* the one who commits the rape, or doesn’t…no one else is allowed to do so. No one else is even allowed to see your possessions. This is because they’re yours, they don’t belong to anyone else, so no one else is allowed to view them. When someone rapes a Muslim woman, it’s an affront to all Muslim men, because it implies that all Muslim men can have their property taken from them.

Since we don’t regard women as property the way they do, our outlook is more detached. We want to catch the individuals who committed the crime and send them to prison, instead of killing everyone in the group from which the offenders came.

The video has been removed. It had been flagged for several different reason not the least of which was inciting violence.

I’m not sure how I feel about censoring things, but then again there’s a huge chunk of the population of this world and especially in thge ME that are so uneducated they believe anything they’re told. And they’re violent.

Didn’t Gary Busey play a Jewish doctor who cut out the eyes of Palestinian children to transplant into Israelis, in that “Valley” movie? When asked, he said “it was just a paycheck”? And he still gets TV gigs in hollywood?

  9. 9. chuck

It seems any excuse will do when it comes to Muslims murdering infidels, but there seems to be no limit to the level of violence and insanity the rest of the world must tolerate from Muslims.

If the same acts of violence and depravity were carried out in the name of any secular philosophy the civilized world would rise up and put an end to it immediately, but because Islam calls itself a religion it is given a pass.

German interior minister Hans-Peter Friedrich recently made the obvious observation: “to say that Islam belongs in Germany is not a fact supported by history.”
I would take that a step further: “to say that Islam belongs on Planet Earth is not a fact supported by history.”

There can be no doubt that those who suffer most from Islam are those who follow Islam, but if it is not stopped that will be all of us.

    • Raymond in DC

“… but there seems to be no limit to the level of violence and insanity the rest of the world must tolerate from Muslims.”

Dan Gillerman, Israel’s former ambassador to the UN, in May of 2007 offered the following observation:
“We live in a world where when Christians kill Muslims, it’s a crusade. When Jews kill Muslims, it’s a massacre. When Muslims kill Muslims, it’s the weather channel. Nobody cares.”

Propaganda is part of the effective waging and winning of war. The Muslims and our other enemies haven’t forgotten this fact. We obviously have forgotten this fact. We also seem oblivious to the fact that Muslims and communists are at war with us, and what is worse, we seem to be oblivious to the fact that they are enemies.

Muslims and communists are not confused about being our enemy, about waging war against us. What do you think it meant when millions of Muslims across the globe celebrated and handed out candy on 9/11? Muslims are at war with us. What do you think it meant when the following phrases were uttered: “Fundamentally transform America!” (Obama) “God DAMN America” (Obama’s spiritual advisor J Wright)? The communists are at war with us. What did it mean when the following phrases were uttered: “Islam is a Religion of Peace ™”, and “The Vast Majority of Muslims are Peaceful ™” Those were uttered by President George Bush in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. He clearly doesn’t understand that the Muslims are at war with us. Why else would he have sent Americans to fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan only to install Constitutions in both nations which enshrine Islamic Sharia as the top law of those lands? That is the same Islamic law which al Qaeda follows and wants to impose on us. It’s the same Islamic law that everyday Muslims follow and want to impose on us. We are living in demented times.

    • John B

Morton, you are absolutely correct about the propaganda war.
I read a book by David Stirling (founder of British SAS) in which he emphasised that the of winning hearts and minds was absolutely basic, essential.
You mention that “we” are failing in this, in the west.
      Who is “we”?
I fear the concept of a collective with a common purpose in this field is flawed.
“We” are not so much failing the propaganda war as that rather the enemy within is winning hands down. And that enemy is very clever.
However, yes, those of common purpose for truth and reality, such as the un-organised Tea Partiers, do desperately need to take the initiative in getting the truth out.
Pajamas Media is great in this regard but it is preaching to the choir.
The reality of what is going on needs to be effectively communicated to “the-man-in-the-street”.

      • Morton Doodslag

John B – you ask “Who is “we”?” It got me thinking that threes not an easy answer. Perhaps it basically breaks along the lines of “we” on one hand who believe that the American enterprise is a noble aspiration, and while it may be imperfect, on the whole there is far far more good in it than bad, vs. “they” who believe there is something so wrong in Amerifa’s formulation and existence that it requires “fundamental transformation” (Obama) or its destruction (communists, al Qaeda, Muslims in general). Those are broad definitions, and I fear the second group which consists of those who wish to destroy or “fundamentally transform” America (difference only in the degree to which they really both wish to destroy her) is a larger coterie than the first grow which loves her. Lefties and liberals always like to say they love America too, but what finally drove me from their ranks, what forced me to deeply examine the lies and propaganda on which I was spoon fed, largely from public school by a parade of far left “teachers”, was the fact that it was always America’s flaws which animated them, that her demerits, real and imagined, are always the main focus of their activity.

For me it has never been clearer than under Obama who sees very little that he wishes to preserve. But 9/11 also called the haters out, with their never ending litany of America’s crimes, and ultimately the blaming of America and our “Middle Eastern policies as an explanation for the atrocity itself.

These definitions of “we” and “they” are loose, and certainly need refinement.

Problem is: You will never see a movie portraying the orgy of rape and murder the Taliban did in Mazar el Sharif, you will never see a movie about the women used as sexual slaves (and jilled if they become pregnanat) by Islamist guerrillas in Algeria and other countries and in case thre was one neither Muslims nor our leftists would care about.

    • Raymond in DC

You get a taste of the depravity in such movies as “Osama”, an Afghani movie made shortly after the fall of the Taliban, and in “The Kite Runner”. Most of Hollywood wouldn’t touch such an issue; it’s easier to slam the US.

Next time you see a Dallas Mavericks game, be sure to thank Mark Cuban for exec producing “Redacted”

  13. 13. Constitution First

How many more examples of Liberal-inspired violence do we need?

The fact that it was based on a lie, completes the story…

  14. 14. paul_unalaska

Yup, another propagandist, NPR’s Vivian Schiller, is trying to keep the Federal gravy train coming in saying NPR’s overwhelming Illiberal view is ‘mere perception’.

    http://dailycaller.com/2011/03/08/npr-head-defends-government-funding-calls-claims-of-media-bias-a-perception-issue/

The stone’s of Ms. Schiller (hey, who’s to say she doesn’t have ‘em?!) in attempting to sell this B S is perverse.

Honestly my Illiberal friends – what color is the sky on your planet?

  15. 15. sherlock

This is why I do not patronize Hollywood, with the rare exception of a DVD of a movie that I know wasn’t made as agitprop. I’ll admit that the fact that 95% of its product is garbage does help my resolve.

  16. While movies like Redacted could prove particularly dangerous, the day-to-day, year-to-year Leftist rhetoric is itself little more than a rationale for why virtually anyone, anywhere in the world has a moral right to attack Americans.

Remember Susan Sontag’s “chickens coming home to roost” comment made immediately after 911? It was largely typical. The Left’s eternal struggle to dominate Western society causes them to relentless smear the West’s political morality. Anyone educated by Leftists will come away pre-progammed to view the West and America in particular as the primary cause of poverty, violence and injustice in the world. Extremist groups simply carry the Leftists world view to its logical end.

The problem is especially bad in Europe and more so in Germany. A good third or more of the German population were educated in the Communist world view during the partitioning of Germany in the Cold War. It’s important to remember that all the 9/11 terrorist were radicalized in Europe, mostly in Germany.

It is not unfair to say that all modern terrorism is justified and fostered by common Leftwing rhetoric. The political writings of 75% of contemporary academics could be folded into a terrorist manifesto without editing.

Bush attempted to fight a war without understanding the importance of supporting the war with propaganda and the need to counter the propaganda of the enemy within – the lying, unpatriotic, selfish, sick left. The sacrifices of countless American soldiers and their families for the benefit of millions of Iraqis may as well have been for naught.

    • vb

Bush didn’t stand a chance. The “right-thinking” academics , journalists etc in Europe never forgave him for defeating Saint Al the Nobel prize winner. His help following the Indonesian tsunami got ONE mention on German TV, and that was about a month after repeated showings of the UN’s calling us stingy and German pundits repeated how the sending of a carrier only proved that Americans were incapable of considering anything but military solutions to problems. Bush may have made some mistakes along the line, but he sure isn’t responsible for the ignorance and prejudice of Europe’s chattering class.

Here’s another example: Yahoo.de had a blurb today from a German press story from Washington. It was about Lincoln and how he wasn’t quite as holy as he is made out to be because he wanted to send slaves back to Africa. The report said that he mentioned this in his Gettysburg Address. Given that this is a fairly short speech, you would think that an esteemed Washington correspondent might have actually read it at some point before citing it in the article.

When one sees such skewing of reality one has to accept that people who have the power to substantially control things (media, government, judiciary) have an agenda.
What does one do about the saturation bombing of lies?

  19. 19. RickS

But I though these killings were motivated by the vitriol coming from the tea partiers and other right wingers. Is Brian DePalma a tea partier? Weird.

    • sinanju

Ahhh, “Redacted”. Brian DePalma got to remake his Vietnam atrocity flick “Casualties of War” only then set in contemporary Iraq. What possessed Mark Cuban to throw money away on this is beyond me. What I remember so well is seeing DePalma doing the interview circuit in 2006 to promote it. I forget which talk show it was but he was so happy and hopped up as he discussed it I thought he was about to reach into his pants.

Mark Cuban is as sleazy a character as they come. His latest stunt is to try and arrange some kind of reality show on his HDnet starring the collapsing black hole otherwise known as Charlie Sheen.

  20. 20. dave

Even if the video did show true events, why would a muz be upset about it? After all, they routinely kill women for the ‘crime’ of being raped. The truth is that these savage, stone-age cavemen will kill for any excuse; if they can’t kill infidels they’re just as happy to kill each other.
The entire ME should have been turned into a glow-in-the-dark parking lot 30 years ago.

  21. 21. proreason

    Redacted? Not likely

Sarah Palin’s maniacal hatred of people from other cultures is the real reason, not that this guy actually did anything really wrong anyway, other than to avenge the sins of centuries against the palestians and other people who would suffer horribly at her hands if she had the chance to strangle them or take away their health care or something. Well, not exactly the palestinians since they only showed up a few decades ago, but lots of other slaves and wronged peoples and stuff.

  22. 22. Sweetandsalty!

I remember hearing about this movie when my son was in Iraq and worried about it coming out and putting him and others in even more danger. I was so glad Bill O’Reilly came out against it and let people know what a skum bag Mark Cuban is.How he sleeps at night being such a low life is beyond me.If my son would have been killed because of this Mark would have to worry about his safety.
