Personally, I cannot separate Angelina from her publicity. So to act as another person would not be feasible to me. I am sick of hearing about her and her adoption of children in other countries and her life with Brad Pitt. I am sick of most actors anymore. I used to love a historical fiction typer movie, BUT not now. The actors are too political and too public. There is no being someone else.

I agree with the other commenters. It's not because the movie's a downer. Liberals won't go because they don't give a rat's ass about some guy who wrote for the WSJ, any more than Democratic Congresspeople care about Pentagon briefings. Conservatives won't go because they've already read the reviews that expressed disgust with the moral equivalency, and because they are heeding the opinions of Pearl's parents. Neither will go because Jolie doesn't run in slow-motion in a revealing outfit.

Here is what Daniel Pearl's father, Judea, says about the film. It is as I feared, that the atrocity of Daniel Pearl's end would get diluted in the effort to "contextualize" the story, bring in the "root causes":

"At the same time, I am worried that A Mighty Heart falls into a trap Bertrand Russell would have recognized: the paradox of moral equivalence, of seeking to extend the logic of tolerance a step too far. You can see traces of this logic in the film's comparison of Danny's abduction with Guant√°namo--it opens with pictures from the prison--and its comparison of Al Qaeda militants with CIA agents. You can also see it in the comments of the movie's director, Michael Winterbottom, who wrote on The Washington Post's website that A Mighty Heart and his previous film The Road to Guant√°namo "are very similar. Both are stories about people who are victims of increasing violence on both sides. There are extremists on both sides who want to ratchet up the levels of violence and hundreds of thousands of people have died because of this."

I used to love going to the movies. I got tired of hearing and reading about some of these narcissistic "stars" and their anti-Americanism. I hardly ever see any movies that "star" these types of "stars."

I grieved when Daniel Pearl was beheaded by the 5th century barbarians. However, I will not be seeing the movie. I will not be able to separate the persona of the "star" from the character being portrayed.

Like some wag said, this movie not dealing with the evil nature of the murderers is like the movie Titanic not showing or mentioning the iceberg.

I don't financially support folks who manipulate the "free" press with prior conditions or not allow coverage by journalists with whom they don't agree.

It will be a cold day in hell before I spend money on Jolie.

A lot of people like Angelina. A lot of people are drawn to the topic treated in this movie. I don't think there is much overlap between those two groups.

Shed a tear for tinseltown.

After reading Asra Q. Nomani's article 'A Mighty Shame'
<a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/22/AR2007062201673.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/22/AR2007062201673.html</a>

I wouldn't go see 'A Mighty Heart' if they were giving the tickets away.

I wonder if Mr. Freeman signed Ms Jolie's legal document to say only nice things about her and her movie.

That horribly offensive piece of narcissism and distain for others on her part most likely torpedoed the movie no matter its merits.
