Corrupt Maxine Waters in Line to Replace Barney Frank on Committee
Maxine Waters (D-CA) has been named one of the most corrupt members of Congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011. She is facing an ethics trial for using her position as a ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee to force Treasury officials to meet with her for what the House Ethics Committee alleges led to favorable action for OneUnited Bank.
In the interest of space and word constraints, the charges against her can be reduced to this: It is alleged that Waters used the weight of her senior position on the committee to arrange a meeting with then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. The request for the meeting was masked as her advocating TARP money on behalf of minority-owned banks in desperate financial straits, brought about by failed Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae investments. But as the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) pointed out, the end result was that the only bank to receive financial assistance from TARP was OneUnited Bank, which received $12 million.
The problem is that her efforts were in her official capacity and compounding that, the only bank to receive TARP money was the bank in which her husband had investments. These were valued between $500,000 and $1 million. Her husband also happened to be a board member of the bank, and the bank had contributed $12,500 to her election campaigns. The House Ethics Committee charged Waters with multiple offenses commensurate with her actions.
But NLPC — the group responsible for uncovering Waters’ alleged misdeeds — updated the case, saying:
The congresswoman’s trial was to begin last November [2010], but was delayed indefinitely after new documents surfaced. The documents consist of a series of emails between Waters’ chief of staff and grandson Mikael Moore, and members of the Financial Services Committee. The emails show that Moore participated in discussions regarding the bank bailout legislation that directly affected OneUnited.
When confronted with charges similar to those for which mafia chieftains have been imprisoned, you and I would attempt to retreat from the court of negative public opinion. But Maxine Waters isn’t most people — she is an arrogant, powerful, high-ranking, senior member of Congress.
Her thirst for power is unabated, and with Barney Frank (D-MA) having announced he will retire at the end of this term, his position as the ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee is about to open up. Without regard for appearance, Waters has made it known that she is laying the necessary groundwork to become the ranking Democrat on the very committee whose rules she is facing trial for breaking.
Waters is a belligerent, often crudely outspoken liberal even further to the left than Barney Frank. Wall Street is understandably concerned about Waters becoming the ranking Democrat and, potentially, the chairman of the committee. Frank has been the senior Democrat on the committee since 2003, and was viewed by lobbyists and Wall Street executives as someone they could work with. While we see where that relationship led us, it can be safely argued that with Waters as senior Democrat, or chairman, the potential exists for economic disaster.
Waters’ stated intentions will be yet another test of Nancy Pelosi’s power as House minority leader. It is an open secret that the two women have a strained relationship at best. But the intricacies and machinations involved in who assumes the Democratic leadership role on the committee is not the issue. The issue is that Waters has no reservations about seeking to lead the committee whose rules she is accused of blatantly violating.
This is an ongoing, unambiguous disregard for appearance and propriety. The Los Angeles Times reported that her relatives made over $1 million during the eight years preceding said article through their involvement with companies, candidates, and causes she had aided. The Times reported that Waters and her husband helped get government bond business for a company, and that her daughter, Karen Waters, and son, Edward Waters, have profited from her connections.
Citizens Against Government Waste named her the Porker of the Month for June 2009, when she “provoked a tussle with House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, (D-WI), over her intention to obtain an earmark for [her] Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center, a facility within the Los Angeles school system.”
Maxine Waters is the face of elected officials who thumb their noses at the public and, in her case, also tells citizens to “go to hell.” But the real tragedy isn’t what corrupt and arrogant politicians do — it’s what the public allows them to get away with, by rewarding them with re-election.

Worse than Barney Frank, now thats saying something! No Representative could be more of an embarrassment to its constituents than Frank (with the obvious exception of Ted Kennedy). If eaten, the body would expel the likes of these rancid portions of meat but in our political system they are embraced. My dog died last year, would any steadfast democrat parasite like to give her a hug before i bury her?
Hey, down here in Georgia for the longest time we had Cynthia McKinney and now have Hank Johnson> I think they could compete pretty well for the prize of ‘most embarrassing”
Take a day long stroll through Water’s district (if you dare) and meet some of the people she represents – you’ll get an idea of why her constituency keeps sending her back to DC. Largely under-educated and with a chip on their shoulder towards anything of authority – they cheer her on at every turn. It gives them the voice they think they need. Stealing from and/or conning ‘the man’ is heroic in their eyes.
The District of Columbia’s equivalent is the former Mayor Marion Barry….in his case add drugs and wimmin’. He got reelected despite his trashy and awful publicity and remains in the public light because his contituents are largely like him, taking joy in stickin’ it to da man.
They have the numbers and hence the votes, so they’re self perpetuating with variations on the same theme.
It all about….connections….connections….connections.
Same with Barney Frank’s career being reelected over the years….connections….connections…connections. That same like-minded constituency, again, and again and again. Don’t even mention all of those Kennedy’s…….attempting to make any elected office at all an hereditary perk.
Term limits might help, but the irony here is that these elected officials will be in effect voting themselves out of careers. It’s an Orwellian Catch-22.
I’m still looking for the video of Waters chanting ” kill all whiteys, kill the whities”. Another BLT supporting white cop killers and celebrating the very worst of the worst. Keep draining the swamp and look what we get! Sorry, but it’s more ill liberal blacks with Wrangle in trouble once again. Another MLK fraud like Sharpton and Obama that hate whites and the jews that were the first to die for their rights. Reas,Root.com and see the nexus of blacks and Islamo terrorists they call there best friends. Guilty by associations and guilty by their own mouths. Ill liberals are the gift that keeps on giving every time they open their mouths…:)
More crooks and thieves destroying the United States from within. Change your getting…
Typical liberalism at it’s worst
I was beginning to think delusions of grandeur were contagious, but I suppose
what we are witnessing in DC, could be more accurately described as ‘drunk with power.
Well, putting a verifiable crook in charge of managing government funds is the Chicago Way. The Democrats are simply defaulting to their Standard Operating procedure here.
The difference is that most malefactors outside of the government, and even those inside it but outside of Washington, are just in it for the money. “Progressives” like Frank and Waters, by comparison, see themselves as being on a holy crusade for “social justice”, which to them justifies anything and everything.
They see no dichotomy between demanding stringent rules for everyone else, and violating those same rules to “facilitate” things by rewarding their friends and allies, and themselves. They deserve it, and they can get it, therefore they are entitled to make it happen, is their argument.
In Waters’ case, it goes even deeper. Does anyone remember this?;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrA9zj94NuU
When Waters inadvertently admitted that the progressives’ “endgame” was the nationalization of the oil business?
When progressives like Waters talk about an “ownership” society, it means that the government owns everything. Including you.
And the “enlightened ones”, like Waters, are the owners of government.
You Will Obey.
It will take more than an election to get Waters out of office; like Nancy Pelosi, there are just too many like-minded idiots in her district. I’d suggest impeachment, preferably before she can get control of the purse-strings.
clear ether

And people in the media wonder why Americans have so little faith in Congress. Well, time to set things straight in 2012. Do we have enough pitchforks and torches ready?
One might have thought that the Americans “set things straight” by giving Republicans control of the House of Representatives in 2010. It’s been almost a year since they took power, so *they* need to explain why they haven’t dealt with said corruption yet. I used to think getting rid of someone on the federal payroll was tough. (I was one for almost 30 years.) But Congress, irrespective of who’s in charge, seems incapable of cleaning its own house.
I got a rope!
Don’t call Maxine corrupt or she’ll sputter and fume and threaten to nationalize you, like she did when the oil company executive was testifying before some committee she was on.
Only Maxine couldn’t remember the word “nationalize” as she was sputtering her threat.
Speaking of idiotlogues and morons in Congress, don’t forget Keith Ellison, D-MN, devoted Muslim, recently self-righteously declaring that he is fasting in support of Occupiers.
Or this winner
Too many so called representatives are beyond embarrassing.
You’ve probably seen this video, 2004 hearings where a series of democrat legislators defend the “safety & soundness” (Bawney Fwank) of Fannie & Freddie in the face of warnings of potentially going belly up, which house of cards collapsed in 2008.
Late last week, the SEC finally got around to filing a lawsuit against 6 former Fannie & Freddie executives. The investigation into Maxine & husband’s bank deal is taking an extraordinarily long time as well.
The two lead off speakers in this video, Maxine Waters (CA) and Gregory Meeks (NY), are both currently in deep ethics trouble
Maxine waters is the other definition of “rank”!
What can you expect from a group of people that swear an oath of office, that they do not intend to honor. When your word means nothing to yourself and others can corruption be far behind. Maxine Waters belongs in prison and not in congress, but then so does a great many more of that group.
While chairing the Ways and Means committee, Charlie Rangel was investigated for 28 different infractions of tax cheating while deciding and how and the where to spend our tax money. You can’t make this stuff up.
Maxine can take the mantle from Charlie Rangel. But at least Charlie has the courtesy to have a good sense of humor and sweet smile while he was screwing us. Maxine Waters is a nasty piece of work.
The code of ethics in any prison system is more virtuous than the aggregate Democratic house membership. Nancy Pelosi as nominated leader? Someone who continually tells us that unemployment benefits are the best and fastest way to stimulate the economy, while swinging sweetheart deals for hubbie? A national disgrace to be sure, but I can’t help but laugh at what has become of the Democratic party.
Taken as a whole, the Democratic Congressional members are so transparently corrupt that someone should make a movie spoof.
The question is: is a angry, corrupt, greedy, arrogant, stupid person better or worse than an angry, corrupt, greedy, arrogant, smart person.
I think the country will be better off with Maxine. She may forget where the bathroom is one-day and get lost during a committee meeting.
And angry as she is, she can’t possibly be as angry as Barney Franks, who hates the world with an unquenchable passion. Maxine has millions of companions in arms who share her hatred for whitey. Barney has maybe ten who hate straight Americans as much as he does.
Jesse Jackson Jr – under investigation
Maxine Waters – under investigation
Charlie Rangle – Censured
Sheila J Lee – “balancing budget is racist”
William Jefferson – will be paroled in 2020
Eric Holder – Fast & Furious
President Oblama – nuf said
Marion Barry – Arrested again on stalking charges
Kwami Kilpatrick – Former Mayor & current criminal
Al Sharpton – 2004 Presidential Candidate “Tawana Brawley etc.
Great Representation = Steal all you can for us and yourself
Maxime is the perfect replacement. One corruptocrat replacing another.
Many people in America feel that congress has perfected the art of corruption in plain sight. This is partially enabled by lobbying and campaign finance law and partially by an impartial media being unwilling to consistently attack politicians they feel a political bias for. Further affecting this situation are constituencies unwilling to throw there own out of congress; everyone hates someone else’s congressman and voters themselves seem willing to increasingly accept a scenario where the ends justify the means.
For the Democrat’s part they generally seem to have resolved that the 2000 Presidential election meant war and since then the gloves have come off and the Democratic Party seems increasingly comfortable with resorting to the most brazen and public acts of corruption.
Term limits are the only answer as we have an entrenched bureaucracy playing a game that has little to do with the future of America or the greater good.
Jack Anderson – where are you?
We need a gaggle of Jack Anderson reporters digging and sniffing around to root out the truth in DC – regardless of political affiliations to those being investigated.
I don’t believe for a minute that electing enough republicans to ‘take’ the senate and holding the house (what the hell have they done?) is going to make much difference. Already it seems most of the Tea Party favorites have been corrupted with the power and money that flows to them who ‘toe the line’.
Power (and money) corrupts – and absolute power (and money) corrupt absolutely. We need to force these idiots on both sides to accept term limits – and once you’ve run out your string in DC as a congress-critter or senator – you SHALL NOT lobby congress or work for any lobbying firm – PERIOD. And you SHALL NOT run for any congress/senate seat again in any district/state – PERIOD.
That would be a start…
I agree. In the past the press have been critical as gatekeepers but the massive added presence of some pretty astute and alert bloggers has not stemmed the tide as partisanship has them mostly at each others throats rather than the true target.
The press in it’s entirety should be demanding the resignation of Waters rather than some saying she’s on “our” side.
Am I wrong or are Republicans in charge of the House? How is it that Waters is moving to Frank’s committee seat? She’s been charged with breaking the committee rules! Isn’t there an obscure House rule somewhere saying she can’t be seated on the committee because of that? If not, there should be.
Tex T is right – Rangel is a friendly chap; corrupt & crooked as they come, but friendly nonetheless. And at least Rangel had the kahonas to go on talk shows & make attempts to defend his nutty & corrupt core. Waters won’t even talk to people she knows could ask her a tough question – she just ignores them. Either way, both should be in jail.
The really sad part is that neither have done a thing to help their constituencies and pull people out of poverty to a better life. Waters is purely self-serving and out to steal as many taxpayer dollars as she can. In Rangel’s district, people aged 20-25 yrs old will receive an average of minus eight per cent (-8%) return on the money they pay into Social Security. How’s that for some great representation!
That these knuckle-headed crooks are serving in Congress is maddening! The people who elect them are getting exactly what they deserve – shafted!
When ever I need to shut up a progressive yammering aboubt the Koch Brothers or Grover Norquist, I ask, “If they are so powerful, how do you explain, in no particular order, Maxine Waters, Charley Rangel, Shelia Jackson-Lee, Henry Waxman, Barney Frank, John Conyers still being in the legislature and not in prison?
Exactly – and that is the short list.
And B I N G O was his name-O!
Great post!
And don’t forget William “Dollar Bill” Jefferson – the Congressman from LA in whose freezer was found $90K in cold cash! Gee . . . I wonder if he got to take any of that to prison with him; that kind of money could sure come in handy buying cigarettes and bribing the guards!
Ka-CHING!
I honestly don’t know which makes me angrier: the fact that our elected representatives steal from us, or the fact that they don’t even bother to hide it anymore.
– difference.
another of those oxymorons everybody is always looking to find:
honest congressman.
how about honest president, or honorable judge?
almost all have a couple things in common:
1. vast majority are lawyers
2. they all took oaths to uphold and defend the constitution
3. majority appear to be pro’s at being crooks, gun runners, thieves, liars and so forth.
i seem to remember an old adage: where there is no punishment, there is no crime. looks as though they took it to heart as there is hardly ever any punishment for their obvious crimes.
If the Tea Partiers want to clean up government, they should emphasise and go after the many, many crooks in congress. They keep getting reelected but what about the quality of their constituents? Their polling places should be closely policed and photographs taken…..regardless of their ‘civil rights’ The rest of us lose all our rights when their corruption takes over congress. There is just so darn much corruption it is difficult to know where to begin.
IUSince some dispute the photo iD movement, it should be put to a national referendum.
All this happens because the media are living in the night of totalitarianism, are controlled by those whom the media should control.
The subversives have put their army of professional revolutionaries in the schools, in the universities, in the media, and the system is now working as a true mafia, with every subversive covering every other subversive.
We have a long way to walk out of this sad night.
Of course she is innocent until proven guilty, but most believe she NOT be given the post she does not deserve. We can do better.
Off topic: SOPA Mark-up Delayed as Support Continues to Crumble December 16, 2011 – by Donny Shaw
After day one of the House Judiciary Committee’s mark-up of the Stop Online Piracy Act (a.k.a. SOPA), it’s pretty clear that the bill is going to be passed by the committee and forwarded to the full House. So far every single amendment to improve the bill for its critics has been rejected, with a solid, bipartisan majority voting en bloc to keep the bill as is. But day one of the mark-up has also made it clear that the public is waking up and legislators are taking notice.
Looks like Congress is acting like the UN, if you know what I mean. Another waste of tax payers money.
Most of the white progressives in the Congress are just loony-like Franks, and Pelosi, but the blacks are corrupt, racist and anti-American. And why do any of you think the blacks in Congress can get away with being utterly corrupt? Their white overlords and the msm cover and support them.
So knowing what you know now, do you really believe blacks and the other corrupt white progressives will, going forward, abide by our Constitution, laws and the outcome of the next election? What if we get the WH and Senate and we move to curtail entitilements, and affirmative action; do you think they will go along with this willingly?
So if anyone here does not think there will be violence in our future, you are living in denile. And if we get the WH and Senate and we do nothing to curb our rapacious government feeding, then we will still suffer a violent future.
This will not end well.
Third world governments lead to a third world economy. Look at Argentina, Venezuela, all of Africa… Maxine Water’s would fit right into Zimbabwe’s government.
Next up mass wealth confiscation (GM bondholders, MF Global clients(Corzine was Obama’s BIGGEST bundler of donations), your 401k) and economic collapse.
The United States of Zimbabwe – Change…
If this ain’t the fox watching the henhouse I have never heard it.
I’m still in utter disbelief that Congress actually allows the “Congressional Black Caucus” AKA black racist socialists to exist.
