Obama’s Rumored Picks Cheer Up GOP
Little did we know that “Change we can believe in” really meant “Change that will delight the Right and freak out the Left.” But if the rumors and hints about President-elect Barack Obama’s cabinet picks are any clue, it may be that both conservatives and liberals had Barack Obama pegged wrong.
If several months ago someone had said that the Obama administration would be chocked full of Clinton administration retreads and have a national security team featuring the woman who advocated bombing Iran to smithereens in the event it launched a nuclear attack on Israel, few would have believed it. But that’s what seems to be in the offing.
As for the national security team, many conservatives are elated by the prospect that Hillary Clinton — rather than Bill Richardson or John Kerry — will be heading to Foggy Bottom. During the campaign, she often played the role of hard-liner while Obama played to the netroot gallery. She took issue with then-candidate Obama’s reticence to voice tough language against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. She also backed the Kyl-Lieberman Amendment declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to be a terrorist organization, while he opposed the measure. (He later reversed course in a speech before AIPAC after sewing up the nomination.) This endeared her to conservatives and infuriated the Democratic liberal base.
And, indeed, Republicans ranging from former John McCain aide Michael Goldfarb to Henry Kissinger to Arizona Senator John Kyl have encouraged the nomination. Clinton, rightly or wrongly, was seen as the best hope to steer President-elect Obama toward a more muscular foreign policy and one more inclined to support Israel’s security concerns.
Ouch, I see a Tony Blair coming on, look moderate for the first term then really screw things up when you get in the next time, I just hope that the voters in America are more able to see through this then the Brits, I have my fingers crossed.

I agree with you on keeping Hill in the Senate – I felt Obama should have put Harry Reid to pasture (or retirement) and installed her as majority leader.
And if Obama is smart he eschews talk of Janet Napolitan for Homeland Security and instead picks OKLA governor Brad Henry – at least he stood out of the way of his legislators in re illegal immigrant enforcement. Having an Oklahoman in that office ensures that he will not want other Murrah buildings happening on his watch.
When do the investigations of ACORN and the credit card fraud that took place in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign began? This remains perhaps the number one question that must be answered. The very integrity of our elections is at stake. Eric Holder can do an incredible amount of damage to our already fragile democracy.
We should also be concerned about the harm that Obama is causing to the economy. The stock market keeps dropping. Investors are sensing that Obama is out of his depth. He refuses to promise not to raise taxes during a recession and lower taxes on the business community. Why is virtually nobody talking about this crisis?

I consider him an essentially weak,albeit ambitious and self-congratulatory, man, who barely understands how the World operates. His Iraq policy, for concrete example, was completely clueless and opportunistic, and managed to be both amoral AND immoral while remaining totally impractical. That he enunciated this garbage just to appease his far-left loons, was more than enough for me to consider him as a very unfortunate choice.
However methinks there are more important things now than bashing the man even before he has taken office. The ‘right’ is now starting to sound like the ‘left’ with its politics of perpetual motion.

I just hope that somehow he and his team can do something to prevent a complete meltdown of the existing economic system which I am now convinced is running on empty. None of these can be easily undone once started. It looks doubtful that any of them can be stopped now. They could all be in place by the end of the summer. It is going to be a horrid two years and the aftermath will alter this country forever and for the worse.
People appear to believe what the MSM tell them on foreign front, at least until problems are so glaring that even the MSM cannot hide them. The electorate will be thankful not to be worried about it by a compliant MSM. I doubt that the GOP can get through to the people on the domestic issues: This would require the electorate to not only think, but to think about something else besides whatever the current media induced hysteria happens to be: They would have to think about the country, its future and the next generation of Americans. Obama said he represented “change.” I interpreted this to mean, change from what we’ve had the past 8 years under Bush. This is why we elected him in a landslide.
Now people are saying he isn’t living up to that promise, bringing in all these Clinton administration types. What exactly is the problem with that? Compared to what we’re dealing with now, those were the glory years. Unless your idea of change is something very radical, I think it’s a good start to bring in experienced people with good records of service.
For me, “change” meant going back to the days when the executive branch didn’t use the politics of fear to take complete control of government. As far as I’m concerned, Obama is on his way to living up to that promise.

As for Holder, remember the guy was brought in as a competent attorney who would “babysit” Justice after Janet Reno was found to be incompetent running day-to-day affairs. As was reported, Clinton refused to talk to the stupid bitch for years, dealing with Holder instead, typically through Rahm Emmanuel and senior White House counsel.
As for the pardons, Holder was just the soldier doing the bidding. The decisions on who to pardon were made well above his “paygrade”. No different than realizing Robert Bork was just doing his job in the “Saturday Night Massacre.” Blaming him is just deflecting blame from the source of the pardons – Bill&Hillary.
I do question Holder’s past beliefs on eradicating the death penalty and his belief that the 2nd Amendment applying only to members armed in a government-approved militia. Tom Daschle isn’t delighting conservatives, for one. Hillary isn’t delighting anyone, left or right. Obama can tack to a more centrist post, but he is still going to have to deal with the dem-led congress, who will be very vulnerable in terms of re-election if no actual change is produced.
I don’t really follow the line of pragmatism of obama being good though. If he can throw his entire base under the train once he gets elected, that’s a very bad sign, because it shows that gaining and retaining power is much more important than being truthful or having character. It might lead to more of the poland thing…promising one thing in private, and recanting under pressure.
We still can’t say anything till he starts to govern though. All those moderates mean nothing if he pushes through policy that is liberal.
