I agree with Steve #53. I turn off the radio at the first sound of his voice. The day after the election I cancelled my cable service. I told the rep that I wasn't going to continue to pay the whining liberal news media who shoved Barack Obama down our throats.

bc.mercury contamination is both undeniable and solvable,so is the island of garbage, depleted fisheries(what billions use as their source of protein)...global warming is neither, wasting resources on a theoretical problem instead of dealing with ones that are indisputable and urgent seems illogical to me.

the links i provided were of convenience, nitpicking and semantics aside.

To shau-jan: aside from some, I think, well-deserved and well-directed insults, pretty much everything I post is backed up by a floating glacier's worth of in-context data from reliable sources, meaning that I actually do some homework before shooting off a post. This means I don't use opinion pieces, especially from people and organizations obviously not genuine experts in the field under discussion, and even more especially if they have political axes to grind. And while I do have a certain expertise in certain areas, I don't even use that as an excuse to play make believe scientist, especially in regards to things like global warming. One technique used quite a bit by some GW deniers is to parse out bits of random data and research from legitimate sites and try to be some sort of ersatz scientist. No, this doesn't work.

As far as your bits about pollution go, like mercury contamination, it's quite worrisome that something from way back in the early industrial revolution days could still end up spreading so far and wide. That should have been much more of a warning that it sometimes doesn't take that much effort by us humans to affect large areas of that little fragile coating on the Earth that we call the biosphere, which we and all life on this planet (as far as we know) lives.

110.bc.if you're looking for an intelligent discussion on a subject almost anyone can agree on(the need for healthcare reform),fine.

wandering in here;throwing around tired, boring insults, spouting off fantasies,as well as shilling for a statist.well...that is exactly what a moonbat does, and yes"climate change" is simply another of the many attempts at controlling human development.(it is not a bad scam if you're a believer in the "population bomb"theory.)

you can effectively remove most heavey metals out of coal, but sucessfully sequestering CO2 is a pipedream(for now):

http://www.princeton.edu/~chm333/2002/fall/co_two/minerals/zec.htm

now this is something i think we should address immediatly:

http://epa.gov/waterscience/fish/advice/

"Do not eat Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish because they contain high levels of mercury."

and this:

http://overfishing.org/pages/why_is_overfishing_a_problem.php

"Thus a total of almost 80% of the world's fisheries are fully- to over-exploited, depleted, or in a state of collapse. Worldwide about 90% of the stocks of large predatory fish stocks are already gone. In the real world all this comes down to two serious problems"

THIS scares the be-jebis outta me:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/10/19/SS6JS8RH0.DTL&hw=pacific+patch&sn=001&sc=1000

" Great Pacific Garbage Patch - a heap of debris floating in the Pacific that's twice the size of Texas, according to marine biologists."

no need for al goebbel's 'chicken little' act.....the situation is dire enough.

To shau-jan: what part of that post did you not understand? I do know that people who use the word "moonbat" are often the same people who use words and phrases like: ca-ca; uh-ohhh; ma, my shoelace's untied; where's the birth certificate?; global warming is a hoax; we never landed on the moon; whoa, this dude on the Internet told me that I have a lot of money coming; Vegas baby!; and so on....

No-nothing right wingers (which is probably a redundant description) seem to be in denial about the state of our healthcare system -- every year it provides less service for tons more money. Compared to the bulk of industrialized countries, it sucks, especially if you're elderly. Out infant mortality rate is also a disgrace, emergency room wait times a joke, and more and more often, doctor visits have to be scheduled months in advance. During recessions, including this one, everything else might go down in price or at worse stay the same, *except* for healthcare costs -- with them it's always up, up and away. I have health insurance, but if I ever needed some sort of advance, life-or-death medical treatment, I would hop on the first plane to Scandinavia or France where their treatments are more and more often years ahead of ours.

This "DumbassCare" absolutely needs to end, so Obama is a lot, LOT more correct than his critics on this. My only issue is with the timing -- the financial markets aren't completely repaired yet and you are going to need the same sort of forensics accounting applied to the healthcare system to get a handle on where the money is currently going -- hospital systems and such make everyone sign confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements these days to obstruct queries into their actual financials. I think it might be better to make this a fall or spring battle, when there is hopefully more complete data, than a summer one, although I can understand his desire to take advantage of his momentum.

It's a case of "be careful what you wish for", but it isn't over. The Democrats will push for whatever they can get or sneak in, in order to try and take over healthcare, now or in the future. The goals are foar more than just healthcare. Remember Healthcare is 17% of our free market economy. Successful take over of healthcare will launch the complete socialist takeover of this country.

Paul and Now and Ten - Your mistake is to use facts and logic with the wingnuts. They are immune to any rational discourse. You can only come here to see their rants not to engage them in dialog. You might as well engage the Ayatola in a discussion of the virtue of forgiveness. I wonder if they act like this in disputes about nonpolitical issues. My guess is yes. It must make for challenging personal relations for them with wives husbands fellow workers.

103.read 102.and as far as "YOU. WILL. BEG."is concerned, show me proof.(not just isolated instances).as i have stated earlier,if we go to a national health care system there will be rationing, which will negatively impact the most vulnerable.if i get sick and it bankrupts me so what,i still prefer to have access to the best care in the world.

p.s. sheesh-o......getting your wisdom teeth pulled is a gentle tickle compared to what i experienced,AFTER getting them pulled,of course.
