Climategate: Not Enough, Phil — Skeptics’ Careers, Lives Have Been Endangered

Phil Jones came clean? Wake me when the death threats stop.

Professor Phil Jones has made some cautious concessions to his critics, but falls well short of the retraction and apology he owes his fellow scientists, policymakers, and the millions of people who trusted him, the CRU, and the IPCC.

It is not unusual for the scientists and promoters who stoke global warming alarmism to sound moderate and conciliatory from time to time. So now, Jones concedes that “the vast majority of climate scientists” don’t believe the debate is over.

Gee, thanks. But I’ve received death threats for saying that.

It’s not likely the people he misled for so many years will decide to stop placing those phone calls and sending those emails.

I want to know when Jones, Hansen, Mann, and the rest of the Climategate gang apologize to the 31,000 American scientists who signed the Oregon Petition saying there is no global warming crisis.

I want to hear about apologies to Fred Singer, Pat Michaels, Roy Spencer, and the rest of the “skeptics” who have been ridiculed repeatedly by Jones and his colleagues not just in email exchanges, but publicly in countless speeches, op-eds, letters, and interviews with reporters.

The Heartland Institute has been saying for 15 years that the science behind the global warming scare was weak. We’ve worked with hundreds of individuals who took great risks to their careers, reputations, and even their personal safety to speak out against one of the most powerful and dangerous popular delusions of the past century.

They are still the victims of wildly inaccurate and vicious attacks on Web sites like DeSmogBlog, RealClimate, and Wikipedia.

Until those attacks are taken offline and their authors apologize, this isn’t over.

    Good Luck!

    I have a suspicion that Global Warmists are merely making a tactical retreat.

    They will be back.

    So is it time to ask: Is there a penalty for falsely shouting “Fire” on a crowded planet?

    Joe, not only do you and the others deserve apologies, but the charlatans behind climategate should be fired and, if the evidence proves that they knew they were intentionally being deceitful, there should be jail time. Why? Not only because of threats against their detractors, but because it’s all about money, research grants, prestige, and religious agendas masquerading as secular science (i.e., let us worship gaia). This is NOT unusual in science and while most people don’t want to hear this, it is exactly what has been going on in relation to the Truth about the Shroud of Turin. Here again, everyone is pushing their secular religious agenda to debunk the cloth and any scientist who presents evidence regarding its authenticity is deemed a “fanatic” or an idiot, while skeptics get away with making all sorts of false claims with the media swallowing every lie. It is time for the public to comprehend that carbon dating, evolutionary tales and climategate are all symptomatic of what secular scientists have been getting away with for years regarding the Shroud. And I will say it again, just like Luigi Garaschelli who was paid by an atheistic union and recently claimed he “recreated” the Shroud, which is a laugh and a half, it is all about the money and science by press release. The world must understand just how corrupt science has become and how so many foundations pay for the results they want, not what is reality. People actually make very good livings in climategate, carbongate, evolutiongate, and Shroudgate. Just ask Al Gore how much he made as a prime example.

    Don’t count on the death threats to stop, Mr. Bast. You and I well know that the New Greens are the Old Reds. Like the watermelon, their green on the outside, and red on the inside.

  8. 8. pelaut

    You miss the point.
    Trillions of dollars lost, complete reversal of constitutional guarantees, world disorder, wrack and ruin, etc., etc.
    Only measure is to hunt them all down and slam them in the loony bin with Al Gore preaching at them 24/7.
    Ain’t gonna happen. They now run the world.

  9. 9. TennesseeVolunteer

    Mr. Bast, fight on!
    The majority of Americans who are busy raising their families, running their businesses, going to Church and coaching their kids sports teams depend on honest scientists like yourself to fight , WITH FACTS, these truly evil Socialists. We are in your debt.

    Like I’ve said in several previous posts, somebody needs to sue or indict somebody else. Get on it. Trillions of dollars were wasted because the desire to use global warming as a tool to extract greater control over economies, lives and our futures. Politicians corrupted science and “scientists” (I’ll put that in quotes in order not to insult true men of science) let them.

    In my world, law enforcement, people went to jail for doing this. At least somebody should lose their jobs, their money, THEIR future. Obviously you are a scientist so you’ll know better than anyone, but my opinion is that they, as a group, can’t take the heat. A threat of being ruined or put in prison where they will have the opportunity to research the sexual pecking order of inmates will cause a bunch of them to puke up all they know.

    Sue them, seize the documents before more go “missing.” Here’s one of my posts-

    http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/02/15/suing-global-warming-for-loss-of-wages-lifestyles-can-it-be-done/

    Good luck. I’m sure some conservative think tank of lawyers is just jumping at the bit to take this one on for free.

    1. But Bill Ayres isn’t. Then again, Bill Ayres was incompetent, so there isn’t any concrete evidence that he ever succeeded at killing anybody.

  12. 12. johnt

    Quick, can the media create another mindless, laughable on the face of it, charade, another crutch for sad sack liberals[?] to use as faux proof of their intellectual & moral superiority while being set up for more misery induced by their material god, the government, and Democrats, next to the Taliban, the scum of the Earth.
    And then there’s The O, Hussien Obama. another prop for power discredited. What’s an America hating thug to do?

  13. Lies, death threats and careers ruined…
    Let me think…
    Where could the totalitarians have learned all that ?
    Let me think …
    Stalin comes to mind.

    And of course it was for the greatest good of us all.

    ~~~~
    We can add; Anthony Watts, Henrik Svensmark (who was invited to a conference in Sweden in the 90′s just so the warmists could mock and malign him), David Archibald . . .
    the list of scientists who’ve been mocked or worse by the likes of Phil Jones and his cronies/supporters, grows.
    Every taxpayer in the countries these frauds come from should demand an apology as well as a REFUND from their personal pockets – for WE are paying for their government supported scam.
  15. 15. gibtx
    I want my money back. I want my State to get my tax money back from this fraud.
    I think a list of the A list perps would be good alone with their state. There is a way to file waste, fraud and abuse complaints with the states Attorneys General.http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Crime/Law_Enforcement/Attorneys_General/U_S__States/
    “Because there’s something
    and you don’t know what it is.
    Do you, Mr. Jones?”
  17. 17. kdell
    one thinks this might be the first good use of the Internation War Crimes crap. Crimes against humanity. And put olbermann up there with the other scum like jones.
  18. 18. rashputin
    Let’s see, they corrupted science by deliberately manipulating data in order to get grants, take political power away from our elected representatives and put it in their own hands, destroyed the careers of many who disagreed, and threatened scientists who disagreed with them with bodily harm. In other words, the climate thugs perfectly fit the type of organized crime that we hear about whenever someone fixes the price of concrete or pads job roles in order to steal from the public. Where is the RICO case against Gore and the others who sold this scam and reaped the billions that they extorted from the public with threats of impending doom? What’s the matter, can’t you bring a RICO case against anyone who isn’t Italian?
    Regards
    We must stop the meme that goes “Jones and his crew might have made mistakes, but the science is still solid.” There is no climate science that supports AGW that is qualitatively different from Jones’ work. All of it is the same old cherry picked data, half of which the dog ate, and none of the scientists will speak with candor because that would cause them to agree that their evidence is equivocal at best. The new meme is “There is no climate science that is better than Jones’ work.”
    Phil Jones:
    Just publish the raw data. Nobody is buying “The Dog Ate My Homework” excuse.
    Let the chips fall where they may!
  22. 22. EscapeVelocity
    Indeed Joseph Bast,
    “All right Jones, you called down the thunder and now you’ve got it. You see that? It says United States Marshall. Take a good look at him Phil because that’s how your gonna end up. The Global Warming Fabricators are finished you understand me? I see a Red sash, I kill the man wearing it. So run you cur, run, tell all the other curs that law is coming, you tell I’m coming, and Hell’s coming with me you hear? Hell’s coming with me.”
  23. 23. Matthew
    I think you’re crowing a bit soon. Phil jones hasn’t conceded quite what you think he has. You’re just cherry-picking comments from the Q&A. You’re correct in saying that “I don’t believe the vast majority of climate scientists think [the debate is over]” is a small concession – it is. It’s a VERY small concession, because it’s not very surprising to hear it from a scientist. Only the outsiders ever said otherwise.
    There’s been a lot of shouting from the skeptic camp over the last few months, but I don’t think any of it has significantly affected the scientific position itself. People who think it has are (I think) misleading themselves. Wait and see.
    The CRU leaks were very well-timed. It’s possible that a random hacker just happened to choose that moment to cherry-pick data from a university and dump it on a russian server, but it seems more likely that it was deliberately timed to come just before the copenhagen shin-dig. 9 months earlier, and it would have been ineffective.
    I suggest that people ignore the noise and just go find out what the “scandals” actually consist of. One working group of the IPCC was apparently liberal about what they allowed as references – but rarely was it (IMHO) an actual problem. The boot-cleaning instructions were by far the silliest, but it also didn’t matter in the context – they were references that could have just been left out entirely, rather than references that really underpinned any of the science. Sure, we can make a lot of noise about it, but as somebody who just wants to know whether any of this matters – I have to say, I’m underwhelmed.
    You talk about people being slimed – take a look at micheal mann, who’s being subjected to a ridiculous witch-hunt (which will clear him, because he doesn’t have a case to answer). I’m pretty sure he’s getting a few threats as well. I’m sure we’re all now familiar with the houghton case – he’s only just had his name cleared after 4 years of being quoted as saying he though it was appropriate to tell lies.
    This is all just symptomatic of the fact that this is a political debate not a scientific one. But I think you’re being a bit optimistic if you think it’s over. But enjoy the victory – you guys earned it.
