Caution: Bloody Century Ahead
Given these trends, the following scenarios are not hard to imagine. Some are likely, others certain, but all are possible in the coming decades:
1) The mad mullahs of Iran gain a nuclear weapon and follow through on their threat to erase the Jewish state from the map. The Iranians see weakness in the West and foresee minimal retaliation. Perhaps they are wrong in this calculus; either way, seven million souls vanish from the planet and the West is complicit in another Holocaust.
2) Russia, seeing no push back from its invasion of Georgia and seeing the United States all but renounce its missile defenses, begins to swallow its former slave states — Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, et al — one by one. It shuts off fuel supplies to Western Europe and blackmails them into accepting this Soviet-light expansionism.
3) European society, no longer under any credible American protection and threatened from without by the encroaching Russia and from within by its increasingly violent immigrant population, crumbles. As has happened so often in the past, a dictator steps in to restore order.
4) Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, segments of the American population resist the sudden and convulsive socialization of their republic — peacefully first, then more forcefully. China refuses to buy any more of our debt, and trillion dollar deficits finally overwhelm the greatest economic engine the world has ever seen. The U.S. economy fails, dragging the entire world down into depression, sparking global violence and chaos. China moves on Taiwan and the North Koreans push south, both confident that the United States is in no position to stop them.
Do these scenarios seem far-fetched? Since the first draft of this column was written and submitted, North Korea has announced its withdrawal from the 1953 armistice which ended the Korean War and threatened to attack United States and South Korean vessels, while Iran brazenly deploys warships into international waters.
Buckle up. Bloody century ahead.

Whether all these elements will converge in a doomsday scenario is yet to be seen – however, unfortunately the elements in cause are there, festering.
The dysmal European demography and unwillingness to face reality, the growing militantism and unwillingness to assimilate of the Muslim populations there, the nuclearization of small yet irredentist powers, the weakening of America and the increasing tensions generated by unemployment and forced socialization here – a Weimar republic expanded all over the globe.
And in the top of this, we have as president Obama who is not only unfit for the challenges ahead, but is actively underming the security of this country – yes, we can?
No, not at all, and we can describe these years in mediaeval terms, as Obama’s Pest or Plagues…
Russia is worse off demographically than Old Europe. Can it threaten it’s neighbors if it has no population?
Mr. Patterson I agree with most of your concerns.
But at the rate Russian women are aborting their children their population will be down to 50,000,000 by 2020.
Its hard to believe Uncle Joe Stalin might have killed that many during the 40s-50s.
I would say build up Germany’s army,
but if we did they would march south towards the Czech or Italian border,
but inevitably turn north and march into Poland.
Having fought beside and with the South Korean army I have no fear of the North Koreans.
I can assure you they will kick the North Koreans A$$ back into China.
Please remember, on this side of the Atlantic, that one of Iran’s stated goals is to set of an EMP over the United States. So with one brief explosion, the US will revert to the 18th century.
Matt Patterson’s article is basically correct. Major powers are never threatened when they are perceived to be too strong. It is only when they are perceived to be too weak that there is a threat to global stability. And Americans have nobody to blame but themselves. They voted in a president who is determined to make us more like France, a weak, lazy, nanny state that offers high unemployment, stagnant growth, and low incomes in exchange for massive (and overpriced) healthcare and bloated and woefully inefficient federal and state governments. What’s interesting about a proposed Iranian nuclear attack on Israel, though, is that any nuclear bomb powerful enough to kill millions of Israelis will also kill hundreds of thousands of Palestinians too. The Iranians never seem to consider that the Israelis and the Palestinians live side by side and that the fallout and the radiation from a powerful nuclear blast will probably kill almost as many Palestinians as Israelis. But I guess when you’re in a country run by religious zealots (like Iran), inconvenient facts mean precious little to you. Also, the Iranians never seem to consider Israel’s retaliation and the massive amount of casualties that would inflict on Iran. China and North Korea should also wonder how the United States would react to an invasion of Taiwan or South Korea, both scenarios that could turn into a nuclear confrontation very, very, quickly given the growing weakness in America’s conventional military strength. Finally, I wouldn’t worry about the Europeans being intimidated by an influx of Muslim immigrants. If the Europeans ever feel threatened by a Muslim minority, they will do what they do best and kill them. Don’t believe me? Well it already happened in the Balkans, in Bosnia and in Kosovo. Europeans are very fond of ethnic cleansing and are very efficient at it. Does anyone around here remember the Holocaust? So if you push the Europeans too far, there will probably be a pogrom just around the corner. Yes, the 21st Century should be a blast.
The Europeans ruined themselves with two world wars. The losses of massive numbers of their best and brightest over two generations is probably irreparable. Russia is included in this as well. Its problems with its Muslim minorities are just not as well publicized. Also, despite the threats against Israel by the Obama administration, I don’t think that the Israelis will allow the Iranians to bomb them. They will strike first and face the consequences later. They basically have no choice.
I have thought that the election of Obama and the institution of what I always believed would be his socialist policies at home and appeasement minded policies abroad would lead to a very, very bad situation. The real possibility of even worse is unsettling.
Europe is in a deadly catch-22; it needs these immigrants to fund their lavish welfare states, yet refuses to assimilate them out of cultural cowardice.
I think you have it bass ackward. Immigrants who want to assimilate, assimilate.
Doomed! Doomed, we all doomed!
The real cause of Western decline is liberalism taking over the Western world like a wildfire. Like you said America has been the lone holdout and stubbornly conservative but even that will be ending soon. And for those of you who are we thinking “What?! America conservative?! Ha! You must be out of your mind! We’re liberal as all hell!” Well if you actually researched the rest of the Western world you’d probably be shocked to find out that literally we’re BY FAR the most right wing conservative country in the Western world. And not just by a little bit by A LOT.
The politics in other Western countries is generally a whole degree to the left compared to American politics. For example their conservatives are like our moderate Democrats. Our ultra-liberal moonbats are like their moderate Democrats (Labour). And their leftist base is full of full-blown communists and socialists and are proud to admit it. They literally elect the “Socialist Party” and “Communist Party” in Western European countries and that’s the actual names of the parties which win elections over there. Even in countries like Spain and Italy.
And Northern Europeans proudly admit that they’re socialists and see no taboo in being a socialist at all. And our conservatives would basically be considered as ultra-nationalist extremist groups in the rest of the Western world. And someone as far left as Obama would literally be considered a right wing extremist in every other Western country. That should give you an idea of just how insanely far to the left the rest of the Western world has drifted since around WWII and even before that.
Most people in Western countries look at us as backwards barbarians because we still allow people to own guns and pocket knives, we don’t provide free universal healthcare and college tuition to every single person, we still believe in the death penalty, we haven’t signed the Kyoto global warming treaty, we drive SUVs and still go to church. All of those things and more baffle the rest of the Western world and they look down on us as uncivilized, ignorant and savage because of it.
And the leftist elite in our own country are ashamed that we haven’t become lemmings and joined the rest of the Western world in their nanny state socialist “utopias”. America really is the last bastion of REAL conservatism in the Western world (and we’re also the richest and most successful – hey what a coincidence!…) and that’s one of the main reasons why American right wingers are so vilianized in our own country and abroad by the left. American conservatives are the last barrier to liberal Western hegemony.
That’s why it’s so important for us to preserve the Republican Party and the American conservatism movement because once we’re gone there will be absolutely no hope for perserving conservative princibles in the Western world and that will cause the inevitable collapse of Western civilization. I mean for God sakes, somebody in the Western world has to wear the daddy pants and have an “ugly conservative capitalist society” which provides us with an absolutely disgustingly huge economy which thus allows us to in turn fund a disgustingly huge military which safeguards Western civilization from the barbarians at the gate. As long as big bad “fat” “retarded” “ignorant” “cowboy” America is around the Western world will always be protected from anything too bad happening.
Not everyone in the Western world can be self-destructive socialist pacifist environmentalist hippies if we want to ensure our security. Which unfortunately our Western allies don’t seem to really appreciate. A lot of them have been dragged into a false sense of security and think the whole world can settle all of its conflicts and disagreements through diplomacy and treaties because that’s the way it worked in Europe with the creation of the EU. Unfortunately for our delusional spoiled Western allies not everyone gives a damn about treaties and diplomacy like oh I don’t know North Korea and Iran?
Our Western allies have generally just become so spoiled by us – their American body guards. We ultimately had to save them from themselves in WWII and then almost single handedly protected them from Soviet aggression because they were too cheap, lazy and cowardly to provide for their own security. The same thing has happened in Japan and Australia due to our mutual defense agreements with them. They’ve also become openly resentful and hostile towards us due to the fact that they embarrassingly haven’t been pulling their own weight and have been reliant for decades on American provided security and generosity.
Aterall nobody likes to be reminded that they’re wimps and lazy and not as important or rich and powerful as another country. And they’re also extremely foolish by thinking another large scale military conflict will never involve European nations again for the foreseeable future. They think most countries in the world are peace loving and generous these days just like they are and the world will remain that way for many many more years to come. And they think that the increasing unifaction of Europe through the EU and NATO provides them with enough combined military strength to take on any possible or likely threat in the future.
They have naive over-confidence in the capabilities of their own militaries and in NATO. And once again are spoiled by the blanket of security we provide for them. Unfortunately they’re probably going to find out the hard way that peace and prosperity isn’t as set in stone for them as they think it is just like they did in WWI and WWII. Nazi Germany afterall went from being a weak and bankrupt country to a military juggernaut in less than 2 years and blitzkrieged all over the entire European continent before they could gain enough courage to defend themselves (had the UK not been an island all of Europe would have been lost). History has clealry proven that you never know what the hell is going to happen a year from now or a decade from now or 30 years from now so it’s best to always be prepared for the worst or you risk occupationa and enslavment.
Re #3. Perhaps, but that would still leave us 11 centuries ahead of the basic Islamic Paradise.
“Europe is a eunuch,” and the US have a jammed barrel prothesis
I find it funny that those who always find that we are “doomed” are the same, we exist for more than 2 millenariums, you, 2 centuries !
and who is gonna disappear the first ?
if the koran is banned … love will flourish.
it is the grumpy corner sitting can’t have any fun muslim who is the problem. the book is stupidly keeping him seething, pedohiling, murdering and constantly keeping him in a state of mental and physical evil.
blood will be shed big time. for the greater good.
I fear you’re right. I’ve been Churchillian in my attitude for quite some time now. Few are listening. Buckle up indeed.
Terry – That’s a very American attitude not necessarily shared by Europeans. It’s easy to become an American and nearly impossible to become Dutch.
The coming global economic collapse throws a monkey wrench into all of it. Obama is unlikely to get a second term without suspending the election. I expect the US to default on its debts just like FDR did. Israel is not likely to let Iran complete the nuclear program. It feels like summer 1939.
I feel confident that the minute TeleBama returns from his date night in NYC he’ll get right on top of all of those problems mentioned in the article. A few press conferences filled with guffaws and some Bush bashing and he’ll get the world back on track again.
BTW… Has TeleBama commented yet on how NKorea is today wheeling out their biggest rocket yet that could hit the US? I’m sure he’s cranking up the teleprompter as we speak.
#12 Marie the Frog – so Europe has existed for 2 millenium. We have “lived,” not merely existed for a glorious time as no other in history!
And as for who will disappear first, the knife of Islam is at your throat. Granted things do not look promising for the US, but it has been the US that has kept Europe alive for the last century, with no help from the likes of you.
Go sip your cafe and enjoy your croissant while the world gets ready to explode. You self righteous ass!
#12 – Excuse me but I was redundant in calling you a “self righteous ass.”
Being French, it goes without saying.
Russia will be doomed far quicker than Europe. I would imagine a conflict between China and Russia is the cards since Russia’s dwindling population will not allow Moscow to keep control over the Russian Far East (and it’s oil!) and as China influence, and it’s thirst for secure oil routes, grows.
One of the biggest 800 lb gorillas in the room though is the fact that due to China’s one-child policy, there is a lop-sided number of males to females in the nation reaching maturity. From what I’ve read you have as many as 30 million Chinese males who will basically not have and hope in finding a Chinese wife. I would imagine 30 million sex starved bachelors is bigger than any nuclear bomb. The biggest resource China’s neighbors may have to guard is it’s female populations.
Mr. Patterson, you are exactly right. Combine the intent of our enemies to destroy us with the consequences of their power to limit our access to energy, e.g. mid-east oil, and you have untold suffering and death to be visited on this whole earth.
We thought the “Big One”, WWII was devastating, folks, history is about to be rewritten in blood. Meanwhile, money by the bushel disappears, the rule of law is trashed, unions are paid off but their demise is only being postponed, and our enemies are being armed by our president, Our Dear Leader, so that those who have not advanced in the modern world can have their moment in the sun. Unfortunately, it will not be the sun, but the heat from nukes coming our way.
The US is being attacked from within as well as externally. It is not far fetched to imagine Islam controlling most of the world’s oil production capability, China through their pawn N. Korea dominating the current means of production in Asia, Europe subservient to Islam, Mexico a haven for terrorists, flooding of the US with more and more illegal immigrants across our northern and southern borders, and we are in some deep shit.
Our Dear Leader is cutting Israel off from further weapons purchases while stating his support for a Hamas led Lebannon. He will no doubt pressure other Arab states to support the downfall of Israel by threatening to cut off US assistance. Our Dear Leader is a classic in blackmail and extortion. And no one dares to challenge him.
The president is not above the law. Why is no one suing the government over his unconstitutional abuses? Yes, he was elected but he was not coronated! Our representatives need to use every law and means at their disposal to stop, hinder, delay what is going on. Hopefully, they can buy enough time until the 2010 elections when some of these abuses can be corrected.
Somebody, please sue his ass! Sue everyone, Treasury Tim, Eric Holder for cancelling case of voter intimidation, and the list goes on. These guys are criminals and are acting out in plain view!!! Damn.
Lebanon and Iran have elections next month, if you can call them elections in any democratic sense. Our Dear Leader will speak to the Islamic world in early June. I can’t wait to hear what apologies and concessions he will make at this circle jerk. But he will continue to spout things like “God Bless America,” all the while plotting our downfall into a world where he is dictator.
Time to bone up on some prayer skills.
#19 Middleman: now that’s some outside the box thinking!
While I find the post both credible and provocative, I would add a few points.
1. I think that the USA fading away to European social utopia will take a while if it happens at all during our lifetime. There will be a backlash to the insanity on the political table at present. Marie Claude, there is a difference between existing and living in a vibrant and challenging society.
2. If Japan loses faith in the USA umbrella, they will change the Constitution and remilitarize. This will fundamentally change the calculus in Northern Asia. Japan too has serious demographic challenges but the samurai spirit remains – and everyone in Asia remembers th 1930s & 40s.
3. South East Asia is a potential flashpoint if there is significant global economic deterioration as your post suggests. Indonesia could be a real mess.
4. South Asia with its nuclear Pakistan – India – expansionist China mix is another potential catastrophe.
RE #12/Marie Claude: “[...] I find it funny that those who always find that we are “doomed” are the same, we exist for more than 2 millenariums, you, 2 centuries ! and who is gonna disappear the first? [...]”
Marie Claude, you can do better.
“we exist fore more than 2 sic! sic! sic!, you [...]” – honey, along these two milleniums [sic!] so many changes occurred in the European demographic make-up that you simply cannot speak about an European continuity, neither racial, nor civilizational.
You can fantasize about Gauls, but you are are not a Gaul, Italians are not Romans, Greeks are not really Greeks, and so on and so forth.
Some groups and institutions survive the times, some don’t (talk about Veneti, Avars or vandals, please) – yet, as the world’s folly keeps marching on, we sure can notice that Europe, whatever its future may be, now is wanning, both as the “historical demographic genuiness” and as civilizational entity, other arrangements replacing a sclerotic and lazy civilization.
For your edification check ol’ Ibn Sinna’s views on this matter – also, if you want to better understand today’s European decadence, compare Europe’s situation with… Incrementis Atque Decrementis Aulae Ottomane.
The left have been surrendering for a long, long time. They can’t stand the right because we are willing to fight for what we have. Right now though boobama is making it very difficult for us to fight anyone because of what he is doing to the economy. He has gone against the missile defenses and is writing off our allies(the few we have left). He is basically standing down so that russia, china, iran and north korea can make their moves. All he will ask for in return is the use of their retraining camps. What he doesn’t realize is that their are alot more people in this country that are willing to fight for it than he thinks there are. All this will hit him like a ton of bricks. He and his liberal friends will also realize that there already are retraining camps here. They are called Federal Prison. Meanwhile do expect the world to catch fire.
Marie Claude: Like you, I take issue with the constant “Europe Bashing” that we see in the American press, and especially the constant French bashing. France, we must remind our fellow readers, was one tough cookie for a very, very long time. Still is. In fact, if push comes to shove and the French must stand up for themselves, they will prove to be Europe’s dominant military power. With that said, when I read my history books, I see a continent that has waged aggressive war for as long as written history exists. The Europeans, as a group, are the world’s best in terms of warfare (if our fellow readers doubt this, then read Victor Davis Hanson’s “The Western Way of War” – yes, our beloved Victor Hanson who regularly posts articles on this site). Europe has serious problems, no doubt. But when it comes to push for survival (and it will come), you’ll see a very aggressive and warlike European population.
My fear is what happens to the great cities of the west once a single nuclear device goes off in one? Do all the inhabitants of all the cities vacate immediately? It wouldn’t surprise me! What happens to society when all the city dwellers become refugees out of the sheer terror of getting caught in a city when a bomb goes off? What happens to the infrastructure of the country?
It seems that as long as Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, etc. (basically, the SCO) pursue strategies that don’t involve nuclear weapons they will not really be rebuffed by the West in any conceivable coalition.
In my opinion, Russian oil is safeguarded by the nuclear umbrella and in any case China can just buy it – the whole “war for resources” theme is just socialist propoganda.
Speaking of Russian demography, it is interesting to review the history of mass deaths in Russia during the 20th Century and to remember that that century is probably the Century of Communism even more than the American Century. First World War, Russian Civil War, Collectivization and Terror, World War 2 (27 million + in about 4 years’ time, imagine that), and then the general ravages of the Soviet experiment – that’s a lot of death. And during this entire time, Russia was always a starving alcoholic basketcase with substandard everything besides military hardware. The demographic collapse argument may be borne out, but in light of this history it is possible that, for geostrategic purposes, it may not be, either.
Germany re-arming will not happen. Beyond their passivism, their massive economic ties with Russia makes war unnecessary: the Russians, if they want Germany, know how to co-opt states silently. Japan will re-arm – if it can be managed elegantly, this alone would save serious American bacon in the East. If claims that Japan’s martial spirit are just below its strange commercially-preoccupied surface, this may be very good. Of course, it would essentially set the region on course for Great War within the 21st century, but hey, what can you do?
I still wonder if that $500 billion electronic bank run on September 15th last year is explained sufficiently by the collapse of Bear Sterns. It seems to have been the thing that set this off, really, the tipping agent. Just seems inherently suspicious to me.
uh, did I kick into an ants nest ? LMAO

Alceste, we absorbed all the foreigners, and they became the outrageous French that you like to slam
James, you’re a reasonable person
I don’t see this as a repeat of 1939, but of 300 A.D. and the fall of the Roman Empire. Just like then with Rome, the one uniting and protective power (the United States) will fracture because of tyrants and then fall. Free stuff always leads to no stuff. The difference is that this time the Barbarians have nuclear bombs. The second great Dark Ages are coming.
Live from Brussels,If any of you think for an instant that the Euro’s stand a chance please buy this beach front property in Arizona, talking to the average euro is like trying to have a converstation with a chicken with its head cut off, meaning it is still up and running around but it is already dead it just doesn’t no it.
james and marie:
the US and France are like a disfunctional family. Thomas Jefferson got his ideas from a french philosopher. France financed much of our revolution and helped with troops at the end. We of course were keeping a good deal of british forces busy here instead of fighting the french. Without the french underground D-day and the Liberation of france might not have been possible.
Besides that I could think of no country that would attempt to conquer france without a really good plan on what to do with all the prisoners.
19. Middleman:
“From what I’ve read you have as many as 30 million Chinese males who will basically not have and hope in finding a Chinese wife. I would imagine 30 million sex starved bachelors is bigger than any nuclear bomb.”
Yeah. That’s what happens when people don’t think ahead. Oh, and that killing female babies part too [karma happens].

And just who, pray tell, pulled your collective teats out of the proverbial wringer in 2 World Wars, and, not to mention, that little slice of heaven known as Viet Nam ? Perhaps your burgeoning Muslim population will save you the next time….. Hmmmmm ???

“Do these scenarios seem far-fetched?”
Not at all.

“Having fought beside and with the South Korean army I have no fear of the North Koreans.
“I can assure you they will kick the North Koreans A$$ back into China.”
Can you comment further? We aren’t hearing much about South Korean capacities, militarily or politically.
What about the Chinese factor? Do you think the South Koreans have to assume that China would weigh in on NK’s side? (with finances, arms and people?)
Until the constitutionalists stand up and throw off the yoke of oppression we have allowed the left to put on us nothing good will happen in this land. (thanks moogie)
We should secede in whatever states we have the numbers and immediately start the construction of nuclear plants to provide cheap energy. We should open mines wherever we know there are minerals to be obtained and especially the good coal that has been put off limits by the left.
We should start forest harvest and replanting. We should give huge tax incentives to any industry that wants to start up within our borders. We should undertake aggressive deal-making with South American states who want to exploit their resources.
As soon as is prudent we should provide military assistance to any South American group that can re-democratize the presently communist dictator states there. AND then help to industrialize said states.
We could make a lot of money. We could reorient the world.

“What happens to society when all the city dwellers become refugees out of the sheer terror of getting caught in a city when a bomb goes off? What happens to the infrastructure of the country?”
Very good question (re infrastructure). Our social infrastructure will implode very quickly, within 10-14 days after a nuclear hit.
I frequently reference the “hard infrastructure” of transportation, commerce, goods and services as well. The inherent benefit the United States has from our amazing economic infrastructure (which obama is destroying as fast as he can) is not something that we can do without and continue as a nation.
His actions parallel those of the guy out of work who’s burning through his savings account and just figures that things will work out ok, because they always have, refusing to acknowledge that they he is no longer sustaining or adding to the savings account. When it’s gone, he’s in the same shape as the guy under the bridge. obama is a destructive fool.
I’m convinced that most citizens do not grasp that our day to day quality of life is specifically dependent on both social and “hard” infrastructure.

“I still wonder if that $500 billion electronic bank run on September 15th last year is explained sufficiently by the collapse of Bear Sterns. It seems to have been the thing that set this off, really, the tipping agent. Just seems inherently suspicious to me.”
Me, too. Thanks for mentioning it again here.
As for North Korea being such a push over, remember the support China gave NK in the 1950s. Any war with NK is a war with China.
Russia’s dwindling population has little bearing on its nuclear warheads. If things get tense and Russia becomes upset, there will be nukes across the Pacific, nukes over the North Pole, nukes into Germany, etc.
And here in the good old USA we have King Shabazz of the Black Panthers, terrorist of Philadelphia polls, being let off by the “Justice” dept. Shabazz? Shabazz? Anyone remember Malcom Little, aka Malcolm SHABAZZ,AKA MALCOLM XXXXX?
More than anything else, we have defeated ourselves.
In the UK, Scotland Yard has scaled back its stop-and-search operations for fear of the Muslim reaction.
Nobody enjoys being the focus of police attention, least of all those who deserve it, but if we’re going to start cutting back on police operations because it upsets some people, then we may as well just abolish law enforcement in its entirety.

“What happens to society when all the city dwellers become refugees out of the sheer terror of getting caught in a city when a bomb goes off? What happens to the infrastructure of the country?”
Those with transportation, supplies, a plan and a destination will head for the hills (think conservatives). For the rest (lefties) just think New Orleans after Katrina but multiply.
In today’s Wall Street Journal, George McGovern advises Obama to cut the U.S. military in half.
While many of us can see very bad things in the near future, there is a defect in the world view of the Left that blinds them to any unpleasant outcomes. And since the mis-education system here in the US has produced at least two generations of primarily Leftist Eloi, we will have to face the Morlocks. The Eloi aren’t going to wake up without a massive catastrophe, and one that most of them are unlikely to survive. The next century is likely to more bloody than most of us can imagine.
Time to stock up on food and ammo. Trying to wake up an Eloi is like trying to teach a pig to sing; it frustrates you and annoys the pig.
Meryl, Dan, me too. That electronic bank run was just too much of a coincidence to be a natural occurence. Somebody, somewhere knows exactly what caused the melt-down. All of us know who benefited from it — affirmative action potus, figure head puppet of the american communist party. So, the american communists won. Just like the dog who chases cars and catches one, we all will now know what the dog does with the car. Today we see the GM dissolution. Last month it was the bye, bye to Chrysler. Communist dogs catch cars and destroy them. I really don’t understand the communist reasoning. They bite the hand feeding them. Obama does not want the gray enfeeblement of communism for himself. He’s putting on the Ritz as have his betters put on the Ritz before him. He is unable to understand communism is a FAILED SYSTEM. Today’s communists are as dumb as those failed commies of yesteryear. The older I get and the more I read of Joe McCarthy, the more I know he was on the right track. The communists at the NYTimes and in the US Congress destroyed him to the agony of our once bright nation.
Col Sebastian, yeah claro, I’m having fun to lauch Chinese firecrackers LMAO
Iran deploys ships? Oh no, not that. I guess we only can pick and choose who gets to be in INTERNATIONAL WATERS.
I am ductaping my windows shut after reading this column.
Never before has the prospect of having gone to my reward within twenty years appeared as a compensation. Perhaps I shouldn’t focus so much on my own relief–after all, I have a son who is married and may someday have children of his own–but, put simply, I have no idea whatsoever what to do to help or counsel my fellow citizens, so many of whom do indeed prefer the Circe’s lap of a social democracy to the Odyssean challenges of a free republic.
Sorry if I seem suspicious and petty, but I think the possibility of a massive invasion from south of the border followed by looting in American cities is also possible depending on how the next terror attack goes.
That distant thunder rolling around in far-off hills that some of us can hear is war. War is coming. It is coming here.
Titus Livy, in his introduction to his monumental history of Rome remarked that his purpose in writing was “to trace the progress of our moral decline, to watch, first, the sinking of the foundations of morality as the old teaching was allowed to lapse, then the rapidly increasing disintegration, then the final collapse of the whole edifice, and the dark dawning of our modern day when we can neither endure our vices nor face the remedies needed to cure them.”
This quote from Livy is so compelling and so fraught with the essence fowhat we face now that it is worth repeating – over and over again.
We, as Americans, must decide NOW whether we can face the remedies needed to cure our nation of the rot of Marxism, multi-culturalism and totalitarian collectivism. For we surely cannot endure those vices for even another year. Rome could do neither, and history is witness to her demise – and to the thousand years of darkness that followed.
We face the resurgence of a new barbarism that coudl last for antoehr thousand years if we do not take the terrible steps required to preserve and to defend our American Republic.
We must rid ourselves of those who would rather rule in hell from atop a stinking pile of rubble and corpses than leave the rest of us alone to live in peace. These monsters would just as soon pull Western Civilization dowm into a pile of rubble as long as it is THEY who are sitting on top.
None of our current ‘leadership’ is fit to live in a free society. None.
Chris from Toronto,
It’s certainly not on the typical top 10 list, but it’s a very real danger, either to the powers-that-be within China, their neighbors, or both. Although it’s never reported, there has been a consistent uptick in social unrest within China for the past two years due to the increase between the haves and have nots.
James (#25), you may want to read some more recent history before you make funny statements like the ones you made. France’s military glory has long since faded and the last serious military effort made by France in Europe ended in 1918, with the end of World War I. Since then, France either has collaborated with its enemies (as with Vichy during World War II) or has needed the help of strong allies (such as the United States during World War II or during the Cold War). France, when left on their own after World War I, has failed miserably when it comes to military operations. Just look at its wars in French IndoChina, Algeria, and the horrible performance of its troops in Bosnia during the 1990s. France is also making noises about withdrawing what few troops it has in Afghanistan (and trust me, there aren’t too many French combat toops in Afghanistan to begin with). So you’ll have to show me some proof when you say, “France, we must remind our fellow readers, was one tough cookie for a very, very long time. Still is. In fact, if push comes to shove and the French must stand up for themselves, they will prove to be Europe’s dominant military power.” You are correct when you said, “France was one tough cookie,” as in the past tense up until 1918. But after 1918, when you said “they will prove to be Europe’s dominant military power,” don’t make me laugh. The current French Army couldn’t fight its way out of a Parisian whore house and even if Russians were marching up the Champs Elise, they still wouldn’t fight, just like in World War II. Nope, France would like you to think it’s still a world power, but instead it’s simply a third rate welfare state with good credit.
Hey, all you folks who voted for Obama! Thanks a lot!
I just remember that day when Congress had closed-door sessions about the sudden economic deterioration, and the report that they/we had narrowly averted complete economic collapse… and the look on these senators’ and congressmans’ faces was like they’d just seen a ghost. It just looked odd, and the reporters seemed somber, and there was definitely something they weren’t telling us.
#51,
The world was well on it’s way to a Brave New Status Quo before Obama was even on the scene, so pat yourself on the back for your own contribution.
Meryl: South Korea has a modern military with equipment and training comparable to ours. The North Koreans have outdated equipment similar to Iraq’s in ’91.

Too many people forget their obligations. Yes it is moraly good to help others, however the first morale imperative it to help your own family and friends first. Too dispise oneself and ones ancestors is suicidal on the face of it.
Yes Europe is still there after 2000 years but it has been transformed multiple times. Be prepared for the next transformation.
Europe will indeed go first as long as the muslims bide their time. Europe is the frog in the pot. At some point soon the immigrants will be able to out vote everyone else. Perhaps you should start shopping for your burka Marie Claude. America will not be in any position to help anyone.
As someone else said above, weakness breeds conflict. As Rome became week the barbarians went from a trickle to a flood.

I wouldn’t think of vying with Neocomrade M. Patterson’s dreams of gory, which are on a scale best left to him and Cecil B. DeMille. And possibly Father Zeus, if He is having an especially good day.
Thinking comparatively small, however, about no more than our own _Heimatland Gottes_ in isolation, I find that the observations of Pajamatarian #36 fit in nicely with a scheme that I hatched only this morning after hearing from Neocomrade Baron Mikey
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/GOP-should-run-against-the-power-of-the-center-46497487.html
that “The 1946 Republicans didn’t move to the center. They ran against the power of the center, and permanently redefined where the center of the political spectrum was. That’s a path today’s Republicans might want to consider.”
His lordlin’ship was playin’ word games with ‘center’, you see: “I think Republicans today should be less interested in moving toward the center and more interested in running against the center. Here I mean a different ‘center,’ not a midpoint on an opinion spectrum, but rather the centralized government institutions being created and strengthened every day.” And so on.
The present keyboard decided it could play too, and wondered why not take ‘center’ geographically and run with it?, which led on to
“Let his lordlin’ship and his Party and his Ideology take the Center — _i.e._, every state with no access to salt water secede or re-secede — resignin’ the coasts to us miserable minions of General Jackson! Presumably a few peripheral adjustments could be arranged: civilisation can do without Texas, and I doubt the Goths and Vandals and Baronistas would have much use for, say, Vermont. His lordlin’ship and the _Examiner_ can relocate to Kansas City, which at that point will *definitely* have gone as far as it can go. The new CSA, Central States of America, will of course be a monarchy, or more exactly, a CEO-ship, with no silly nonsense about lettin’ those Great Beast folks that Gen. Hamilton used to worry about [*] interfere in the politics of our betters.
“Mikey B. himself could become _Empereur_ or _Premier Consul_ or _Titulaire-en-chef_ or whatever the top plum job in the CSA Anti-executive Branch is called, and then . . . .

Now the beauty of this coincidence is not merely that Pajamatarian #36 should happen to be a Jefferson Davis groupie already (for these are a dime a dozen at Wingnut City and Rio Limbaugh nowadays) but has to do rather with his “mines wherever we know there are minerals to be obtained and especially the good coal” Fortunately for everybody these mines are located pretty much where Baron Mikey and the Kansas City neorégime will be wantin’ them to be — well back from the sea. The Clown States will be needin’ uranium mines as well, I believe, for “the construction of nuclear plants to provide cheap energy” and these mines, too, are in Nevada or Cheynihoma or thereabouts (aren’t they?) — another splendid bull’s-eye for Lady Luck!
Similarly with “forest harvest and replanting,” though we peripheral losers would do *too* badly in that department. Considering that an _Anschluss_ with Canada and/or the Old Euros might well follow for us grown-ups, Finland and Québec could take care of us timberwise, even if we were to spot the kiddies New Hampshire for oldtime’s sake. So that’s all right.
“Erring sisters, depart in peace!” [**]
Happy days.

Good piece — very plausible. If China invaded Taiwan and/or North Korea went South, I think the Obama administration would decline to intervene. Taiwan and South Korea would be on their own. Same with Israel. If Israel does not pre-emptively strike Iran, they are ultimately finished.
I think what U.S. conservatives should do is immigrate to Western Canada which only has a population of 10 million but abundant resources. U.S. conservatives become the majority, gain control of the government, then do #36. Maybe someday they could scoop up what remains of the U.S.

I want to inject a sobering note here to cheer up the people who are still deluding themselves by believing “this ” can be corrected.
The thing many people do not understand is the word “United” as in the United States of America. We are only United as long as there is some common reason to feel that the citizens of Michigan or Massachusetts share identity with Texas or Louisiana for example. Our legal connection with other States is useless and meaningless. It can be discarded on a whim by any authority and over any issue. Take illegal immigration for example . Leftist politicians spit on the notion that a sovereign State like Texas should enforce it own borders . Texas has no authority the courts claim. Well if the people of Texas feel that their concerns are not addressed then what are they to do? What reason do our men and women serving in the military have to pledge allegiance to up holding the law or carrying out an order? If the federal government picks and chooses which authority the States have then we owe them no loyalty. They have worked against the wishes of most of the citizenry by manipulation of media , education, courts and communication.
Today we’ve see the pretender Barack Mugabe Hussein Obama seize the largest automobile company in America and guarantee the union employees cradle to grave security.
Why do the people of the other 49 states owe Michigan this financial rescue?
United only means The United Auto Workers . The rest of us are the Super Amalgamation of Socialist Saps!

Whether we like it or not, the United States is currently under siege. Whether we like war or not, holy jihadic war has been declared against us by our enemies.
Whether we voted for Obama or not, this country has been marching towards this point in time for decades. I believe we have reached the critical mass stage now – a person who is 100% sympathetic to the neo-Marxist cause is now the leader of the most powerful nation on earth.
Does anyone remember a scene from “The Devil’s Advocate” where Al Pacino, as satan, is standing in a church. He poises his finger over the font of holy water, then looks up, as though to God, daring Him to stop him, then sticks his finger in the holy water.
Well, if others can’t see that this is exactly what Iran, NK, Russia, and al Qaeda are doing, then they are blind. There they are, with their collective fingers poised over the green “go” button while they look to the United States to see what we’re going to do about it.
And what has our reaction been? Apologetics and stern consternation! How intimidating is that? What is this, the Dr. Spock version of world leadership? It’s time for the leadership in this country to grow up and act like real men.

… I agree with you, that Nato isn’t justified since the fall of the eastern block in the nineties ; since then, it has mainly served the american policies as a foreign legion (also mostly in countries that aren’t Nato members)
Even Nato in Afghanistan is going to fail, because of the indadequation of the means there, not only becuz of the european lack of motivation,(mostly said by our American fellahs) but immuably because no power could managed to subjugate these tribal rebels, even the Russians, that used more arms and troops there, didn’t ; if you want them docile, you have to eliminate all the men, and or bomb the hell until vitrification of the country, but bonjour les dégâts in the world reputation of the US then !
So Nato, as its former organisation was ment for, isn’t justified anymore, BUT the experience, that the EU countries made through it, should incline them to redefine its missions, and eventually to opt for more autonomy from its US leading headquaters. Aso EU countries like France, Germany, UK are, altogether, contribuating to Nato financement more than the US.
Marie Claude,

Ah, the Fourth Turning…economic followed by civil/military turmoil(not always in that order). Every fourth generation (approx. 70/80 years) passes thru this gateway to a new era. The Revolution + 4 gens = Civil War/Long Depression + 4gens = Great Depression/WW2 + 4 gens = Great Deleveraging/ ? …..
And the halfway points between these conflagrations? Social upheaval and non-global conflict with no resolution (WW1 and Vietnam the two most recent). But cheer up, conflicts in Fourth Turnings DO bring resolution and are TOTAL wars with clear winners and losers. The POTUS in 2012 will be the person to deal with WWIII – so, let’s make damn sure that person is NOT Obama, or we are f@#$ed. God, where are the Truman/Kennedy Democrats when you need them? Damn you, 1968, damn you!
Raskolnikov’s nightmare in Crime and Punishment foretold our coming century. Moral relativism already prevails.:
“He dreamt that the whole world was condemned to a terrible new strange plague that had come to Europe from the depths of Asia. All were to be destroyed except a very few chosen. Some new sorts of microbes were attacking the bodies of men, but these microbes were endowed with intelligence and will. Men attacked by them became at once mad and furious. But never had men considered themselves so intellectual and so completely in possession of the truth as these sufferers, never had they considered their decisions, their scientific conclusions, their moral convictions so infallible. Whole villages, whole towns and peoples went mad from the infection. All were excited and did not understand one another. Each thought that he alone had the truth and was wretched looking at the others, beat himself on the breast, wept, and wrung his hands. They did not know how to judge and could not agree what to consider evil and what good; they did not know whom to blame, whom to justify. Men killed each other in a sort of senseless spite. They gathered together in armies against one another, but
even on the march the armies would begin attacking each other, the ranks would be broken and the soldiers would fall on each other, stabbing and cutting, biting and devouring each other. The alarm bell was ringing all day long in the towns; men rushed together, but why they were summoned and who was summoning them no one knew. The most ordinary trades were abandoned, because every one proposed his own ideas, his own improvements, and they could not agree. The land too was abandoned. Men met in groups, agreed on something, swore to keep together, but at once began on something quite different from what they had proposed. They accused one another, fought and killed each other. There were conflagrations and famine. All men and all
things were involved in destruction. The plague spread and moved further and further. Only a few men could be saved in the whole world. They were a pure chosen people, destined to found a new race and a new life, to renew and purify the earth, but no one had seen these men, no one had heard theirwords and their voices.”
“I think what U.S. conservatives should do is immigrate to Western Canada which only has a population of 10 million but abundant resources. U.S. conservatives become the majority, gain control of the government, then do #36. Maybe someday they could scoop up what remains of the U.S.”

I suspect that the one thing the North Koreans won’t do is invade the South. Why? Because an attack would neutralize the North’s real defense — the ability of it’s field artillery north of the DMZ to kill tens of thousands of South Koreans in a matter of minutes. That artillery is old, but it is dug in and could easily fire off tens of thousands of rounds into areas where millions of South Koreans live. ROK and US forces could destroy it, but not quickly enough to prevent massive civilian casualties south of the DMZ. The only real way to stop it would involve preemptive nuclear strikes along the DMZ — a rather difficult proposition politically.
It’s this threat that keeps the US, the South and/or Japan from doing anything militarily against the North’s nuclear facilities.
However, if the North attacked the South, this threat wouldn’t matter anymore since those artillery casualties would be minor in the face of letting the North actually capture millions of South Koreans. And the North’s antiquated army would be facing a modern ROK Army that would shred it, especially when they would have all the defensive advantages of the terrain. Human wave attacks circa 1950 won’t do well against GPS-guided bombs and artillery. A few USAF B-52 runs would decimate entire Northern divisions in a matter of seconds.
Besides, the North’s acquisition of nukes will soon lead to the South joining them. And the South could nuclear very fast with nukes that weren’t primitive like the North’s.
The gang lords of the North will stick to selling their wares to others.
Regarding scenario #4, I would be one of the citizens who would gladly help the military put down an insurrection.

About US demographics. Could someone provide me with more information?
For what I know, US demographics are stable because of massive immigration from south the rio grande, and the fertility of the new-arrivers. Americans of European heritage have similar birth rates like their cousins across the atlantic. this will undoubtly change american culture and priorities.
The question is, is the US still going to be a western nation when most of its citizens are non-westerners? How will that affect the US’s exeptional role in the world, will its interests stay the same?
Does Iran have EMP capability right now?
Seems too coincidental that North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela are all ratcheting up their delivery systems right now – especially since we saw how North Korea had given their nuke know-how to Syria, seemingly under the radar until Israel reduced the facility to dust.

the Cromagnons were the first known inhabitants, true, they left decorated caverns ! since there have been many invaders of Hunter-gatherers, then they became sheepherds, agricultors. Then there were the megalith people, followed by successive celtish tribes that finally settled. Came the roman legions, with soldiers from the whole mediteranean “mare nostrum” D’ya think that they return to Roma or back in their original province ? Nah, a big part of them remained there, married there, melting with the locals. Then came the Franks tribes, they also mixed with the locals and the Romans. Our country was/is such a dream for the foreigners, the Arabs, the Vikings, the Dutchs and the spanish (Charle le quint anyone ? Burgondy), the Brits ; part of them remained…then France became a traditional country of immigration, through different forms, the kings enrolled foreign regiments, Napoleon made a big meling pot with his army, that’s may be how some Croatians became french too. 19th and 20th centuries, with the colonial wars,(also Crimea war brought some turkish residents), poverty, the european revolutions(Balkans already), we got many political refugiees… Poles, Czechs, Romanians looking for jobs in our mines, Italians that fled fashism, Spanish that fled Franquism, Portugeses that fled poverty… the portugese maids replaced the spanish maids, the north african maids replaced the portugese maid, the african maids replace the Maghrebin… Now we have the eastern republics that replace the maghrebin and African immigration, some beautiful russian girls came to meet the romantic Paris and stayed there for working and finally marrying our guis…

Me too but I’m crazy.
Not as crazy as Macko #31. What alternate fiction book did you get the ideas that the French sent toops to America during the revolution? They sent a fleet, not an army.
As far as the FFI and D-day, they did Nothing critical. The FFI was mainly an effort by certain Frenchmen to grab power in France AFTER the Germans were run off. If the FFi had slept thru D-Day, it would not have made a difference.
Allied control of the air made the outcome in the ETO inevitable.
As far as the doom and gloom goes, I think we ( the USA) will win in the end. We are better at fighting then the tricksy diplo stuff. Give Americans a good clean fight and we kick ass. It’s the Euro-style mini-wars and ‘strategic campaigns’ of colonial powers that give America grief. That is because Americans are not Imperialists by nature.
When threatened, we fight. When we fight , we win.
If President Bush had a clue, we would have already won his “War on Terror”.
I think everything is going to be just fine.
The problem is Western Women. They don’t want kids (neither do Korean, Japanese, Iranian, Algerian, and Tunisian women, either).
Men are not invested in society, because it’s a female sexual utopia: the pill, condom, abortion on demand, anonymous urban living, and rising female incomes let women do what they want, when they want, with whom they want.
And mostly women want a few Alpha men, and then single motherhood if that. For most men, this is no incentive to care about society, to demand high military spending and a strong military, and so on.
We didn’t just “get this way by magic.” It did not just “happen” by some weird global synchronicity. It is due globally, to the changing circumstances of women.
And the threat, that of old-style polygamy that prevents women from having any say, is strong because Western Men have no incentive in society.

The US did not invade Iraq for its oil. We do not control it now, nor did we ever control it. People who think that are reactionary twits unable to think outside the narrow minded confines of vulgar Marxism. I’d explain to you why we did invade Iraq, but if you don’t comprehend it after six years I doubt you ever will. I will only say that it had to do with the long term campaign to stop jihadist terrorism through reform of the dysfunctional Arab political culture.
Iran’s nuke program antedates the Iraq Campaign by about two decades. Iraq also had a nuke program, with the capabilities furnished by France. The French will do anyting for money; ask the Tutsis and General Dallare. NorK’s program also dates back a long way. So US liberation of 25 million Iraqis from Ba’athist tyranny has nothing to do with the start of or ramping up of these nuke programs. Do try to get chronology straight, old boy, it makes possible the correct assessment of cause and effect.
As for Iran’s morivations in pursuing its nuke program, what part of “Death to the Great Satan” and “Israel must be wiped off the map” do you not understand? The intentions seem quite straighforwardly expressed to me. The great lesson of the 20th Century was expressed by a survivor of Auschwitz: if somebody says he intends to kill you, believe him. The Ayatollahs say they intend to kill us. I believe them. They should be stopped from doing so. It is faux sophistication, naivete really, that tries to see something else in those declarations.
Marie-Claude,
My prayers of sympathy to the families of French, Brazilian, American, and citizens of 30 other nations who lost loved ones yesterday over the Atlantic. What a horrific event. No one yet knows what happened, but whatever it was it happened extremely fast. So fast that no distress or mayday was sent. I wonder if this will ever be solved. The ocean is over 14,000 feet deep there, so finding the black box would be a miraculous feat.
nice screenplay for the next summer blockbuster.
I’m not sure who should play the lead role.
Arni, Bruce, Stallone, Diesel or Bale. Maybe all of the above wtih a token role for James Bond. I mena the brits will still be on our side wont they.
You know…ever since Obama was elected all I hear from Conservatives is doom and gloom. As a Conservative, I am appauled by this. I am 33 years old and since I can remember, the Conservative message was one of hope, of “we can make it!”. Today’s Conservatism is becoming slowly, but surely one of the things that I have always disliked about Liberalism, a movement full of hopelessness, doom, and gloom.
Obama won this past election because much like Reagan did in 1980 and then in 1984, he stole the other parties message. Hope and Change was Obama’s message, this was Reagan’s message in the 1980s.
If Conservatives are to win back America, REAL hope and change most become part of us. Not the fake hope and change that Obama promised, but the real deal, the real thing. Yes we lost the past two elections, badly, but it is no reason to now become like the Liberals and be all depressed and predict the end of the world.
Liberals are about Global Warming that will destroy the Eearth, Nuclear holcoust (started by the USA). We Conservatives have become the same world end scenerios.
If we keep up this gloom and doom, the Conservative movement will be lost in the wilderness much like the Liberal and Democrats were lost in the wilderness since 1994.

Marie Claude,
Hmmm… since WW2 the United States kept the Soviet Union out of your pathetic country.
Let us not forget that many of today’s problems in Africa and other third world nations lay at the feet of France and most of Europe. You imbeciles would go into a nation and divide it along racial lines. You and the Dutch did a fine job in Rwanda where you brainwashed people into believing that the whiter they looked, the better they were.
Let us not forget that France supplied the Hutus with the weapons to wipe out the Tutsis.
let us also NOT forget that France has supplied many a dictator with weapons and army technology. Saddam Hussein’s army had plenty of French weapons including Mirages. So does Iran and many of the pathetic Arab nations.
Let us not forget that while Saddam HUssein was shooting at American jet fighters in the 1990s and filling up mass graves in the deserts of Iraq with innocent men, women, and children, YOU and YOUR nation were supplying Saddam Hussein with weapons, billions of dollars, luxury cars, airplanes, etc all in exchange for cheap oil.
In fact, as it is well known today, Hussein promised Chirac billions in oil if Chirac opposed the Iraq war.
The death of millions of innocent Iraqis lay at your feet, at the feet of the Chirac government. If instead of opposing the USA, so you could receive cheap oil from Iraq, you would have sided with us, things might have turned different in Iraq.
FRance started the Vietnam problem, then ran with its tail between its legs begging the USA for help. Once the USA started helping, France ran away from Vietnam like the cowards that you have become.
France would be a German nation if it wasn’t for the USA or a Soviet satillite nation if it wasn’t for the USA.
While there are many brave French men and women, the majority have become a pathetic joke.
Let us not forget that many elements of the French government during WW2 helped the Nazis exterminate Jews in France.
In fact, France has a huge Nazi problem. there are more attacks against Jews in France than any other European nation.
Let us not forget that it was the United States of America that bailed out France’s rail road system when it was in full and utter collapse during the 1950s.
let us not forget that when France failed in producing enough wine, it was the USA that came to its rescue.
The USA has saved the French economy so many times, it is a sad that you would dare come in here are claim such hatred for the USA.
France is slowly, but surely becoming an Islamic republic. Many a neighborhood in France are forbidden zones where not even the French police dare to enter. France might have been a mighty nation many centuries back. Today, much like England, it is a sad, pathetic, worthless nation that did great harm to the world during the 19th and 20th centuries. You will be insignificant in the 21st Century.
Don’t forget, pendeja, that France relies so heavily on the USA economy and American travel to your sad, worthless nation, that when a few million Americans decided to boycott France and French products for not supporting us during the Iraq War, France’s economy suffered.
As the saying goes in Spanish. “El hombre mas hombre de Francia, es mas marico, que el marico mas marico de Espana!”
Obama’s America will not defend Israel or Europe. By the time war breaks out, the US will be tired, impoverished, and divided against itself. Those who crush Europe will do so without the compass of capitalism. There will be no Marshal Plan. Disease will kill more than bombs. Europe will be the new Africa.
I think the nuclear winter will help a lot with global warming.
What are you talking about dude?!?! Didn’t you get the memo that the Obamassiah will make the whole wide world love and respect us?
To the Frenchie from Gen. George S. Patton:
“I would rather have a German division in front of me instead of a French one behind me.”

I agree with being positive as a conservative. Unfortunately, even Reagan was unable to fully undo the damages done by FDR, Johnson and Carter. The seeds of our current sub-prime crisis were planted by Carter; Social Security and the “Stimulus” spending by FDR.
At age 62, I fear that the burden of the socialist welfare state is getting closer to critical mass. The ignorance of the American Electorate is a fuse that is capable of perpetuating the lunacy currently seen in Washington.
Regarding a North Korean invasion of the South, that’s a joke. The best the NorKs can do is create a lot of chaos (deadly in the millions, but still no real invasion). It’s a matter of logistics… Just to get the few kilometers from the DMZ to Seoul would take an enormous amount of fuel to sustain their army. Even if they show that much fuel in their inventory, the corruption up there is so bad that probably only 25% of that fuel actually exists.
Furthermore, the NorK army is poorly trained. And when poorly trained soldiers run up against a well-trained force like the ROKs, we all know what happens. The death and destruction is very one-sided.
So, North Korea is bluffing, and praying that we are too afraid to call their bluff. Their possession of Nukes simply pushes the ante up. It doesn’t change the cards.
My $.02
Everyone has an inate feeling that everything will continue as it is currently. For short periods of time this is correct, there are just small variations one way or another. But the truth is that nothing ever goes on just as it has forever. There is always a tipping point that plunges one way or the other.
Start looking objectivly for that tipping point because there are several we are teetering on right now. None of them good.
Several countries or groups are ignoring that US military hardware is hardened against EMP effects. Any strike against the US will lead to 10s or hundereds of millions of dead.
“A million monkeys, typing for eternity might produce a work of Shakespeare…”
Don’t bet on it.
The final act for France as a military power was the invasion of Egypt in 1957 (’58?). In cooperation with the British and the Jooooooos, they managed to fight Egypt to a draw.
That is de-facto evidence that France is a 3rd world power. Of course Henry the K had just coined the term 3rd world a few years before and it wasn’t in general usage then.
BTW, France LOST in Algeria. Several times in the 19th century and then one last time in the 20th. So you can’t really say they quit.
Considering who is butning all those cars, I could argue that the battle of Algeria isn’t over, it has just spread to Paris.
Even if the Muslims win, it won’t be that bad for me. I’ll just memorize the Koran , grow my beard and put in a bid on a movie start or two for my extra wives.
I don’t think I can afford a real first class Hollywoodho like Hallie Berry, but Lindsey Lohan or one of the Fox gals should be within my price range. I’ll bet you could get a real deal on some of those high hour types.
The left is going to learn the hard way that the game the Muslims are playing is a zero sum one. One side wins, the other side loses. If we don’t fight back, we can’t win.
The moment of truth for the left won’t be when their protest marches are meet with machine gun fire, but when the revolutionary gurad walks among the wounded shooting them in the head.

oh typos, how can you manage to analyse Algeria war with such pre-jugés ?
the independance of Algeria, isn’t the resuslt of a France defeated, but the botom line of conflicts between political parties.
Our army could win any battle fields, it has the means and the trained men.
Algeria has the support of the population, you can win a war if you destroy men, if you torture them, if you subjugate the population, but you never win in the spirits, and if De Gaulle hadn’t the wiseness to end it, we would still be there with guerillas, with terrorist attacks…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuIkaP61goU
DE Gaulle made the political choice to leave Algeria, through a referendum that favored the independance at 70%. I had 3 elder cousins that fought there, and they didn’t find the interest to defend a few lobbies, the rich colons, this simply wasn’t a french business !
now if you can read french, a different perspective will help you to understand (I hope so)

“”"”"”The mad mullahs of Iran gain a nuclear weapon and follow through on their threat to erase the Jewish state from the map. The Iranians see weakness in the West and foresee minimal retaliation. Perhaps they are wrong in this calculus; either way, seven million souls vanish from the planet and the West is complicit in another Holocaust.”"”"”"
Understand the concern about Iran, but no single nuke, especially one developed by Iran, is going to “wipe out” Israel, which, if attacked, would retaliate with dozens of well-aimed nukes on both Iran and Syria (the latter for good measure).
“”"”"”China moves on Taiwan and the North Koreans push south, both confident that the United States is in no position to stop them.”"”"”"”"
China would win, but only after a protracted and costly struggle, in which they will resort to tactical nukes to quell a feerocious Taiwanese defense. Their better option is to squeeze Taiwan, and then offer it a Hong Kong-type deal.
N. Korea would lose a war with S. Korea, but S. Korea would be devastated. China would grab as much of N. Korea as it could, and the remnant would surrender to a S. Korean counter-attack.

Many of the things you said about the French may be true; however, here is something you don’t know. Thousands of Jews, Jewish children, were saved by the French Hugenouts who risked their lives to do so. It is one of the untold stories of WWII. The entire community organized, and saved thousands of Jews. I stress the entire community. Nobody broke with the job, nobody ran away. They were unarmed, yet faced the Nazi threat. God bless the French.
Marie Claude, I don’t necessarily agree with you positions, yet I sure appreciate the fight you put for your France.
You sure are not Michael Moore and please take this a genuine & sympathetic compliment -

In WWII only the Danes did more to save Jewish lives. The Slovaks aided the deportation of the Jews. The Poles were indifferent or complicit. The Ukrainians, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians openly aided the murder of my people. When Churchill heard about what was happening with the mass murder of the Jews, he ordered the Royal Airforce to bomb the German installations and trains. His generals intentionally never carried out the order. When Roosevelt learned about the slaughter and was begged to do something about it, he openly refused.
In the 1950′s, the US sponsored a revolution against a duly elected govern of Persia and replaced it with the Shah. We see the result of it today.
We encouraged the French in Vietnam and even offered them the use of two Atomic bombs provided one would be dropped on China.
US foreign policy has been like watching a Rhino in a jock strap, that’s too tight, trying to dance ballet, only less subtle.

Well, lots of “catholics” and anonyms “republicans” made it too.
Some Catholic Bishops were the first in Europe to rise the voice against deportation and the treatment of the jewish population by the Vichy authorities.

Gen. Patton is credited with making that statement. As for Gen. LeClerc, Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Eisenhower, had Gen. Patton and his troops stand aside so that LeClerc could enter Paris as saviors of the French Republic. Politics aside, and knowing about Patton’s attitudes, I doubt very much your beloved LeClerc would be able to tell him anything. French feelings being so poor at the time, the USA allowed your people to have a hero after lacking one for so long, and after two serious ass whippings in two wars.
Nevertheless, like misanthropicus, I have to admire your tenaciousness. Are there more like you? From recent history, I kind of doubt it. It is very novel to have these exchanges with you. You appear to be a very rare bird.

“Europe is a eunuch,” and the US have a jammed barrel prothesis
I find it funny that those who always find that we are “doomed” are the same, we exist for more than 2 millenariums, you, 2 centuries !
and who is gonna disappear the first ?
Marie Claude: What a stupid comparison. The US existence is a continuation here of those 2 “millenariums” that you mention, so you cannot compare both like that. US culture does not comes from thin air, but from the heart of Europe. The thesis of this article is very valid, look at the “French Intifada” in Paris not long ago, and how the French cowered under their tables. There are sections of Paris where the few French woman left in the middle of Muslim neighborhoods, are compelled to cover their heads with scarves for fear of retaliation.
2. Douglas:
[Russia is worse off demographically than Old Europe. Can it threaten it’s neighbors if it has no population?]
This is correct and an interesting point. However, European Russia has few immigrants and a more monolithic racial structure.
The problem they are having is keeping the pressure of China and the Chinese from taking over Siberia, which is sparsely populated. Chinese interests already out weight Russian’s for many citizens in Siberia that are closer to China. Chinese illegal often stream through the porous Russian border.
I just returned from a week in Rome where I was struck by the paucity of (evidently) pregnant women. Nor were babies/toddlers/children much in evidence. Kind of ironic there in the Roman Church’s own back yard.

Yes I meant the French Protestants. They quietly defied the Nazis.
RE: #23 et al…
Do you mean, we Americans have been around for 2 millenia?
I don’t think so!
The Roman and Greeks were around a lot longer than us. You know the Romans and the Greeks… the great republics and builders of roads, indoor plumbing, higher education and many other wonders which revolutionized mankind forever. What about ancient Egypt and their contribution to the world for 10,000 years? Any of them still around?
Things happen faster in a global information age and economy where flu virus can circumvent the planet in 24 hours.
We here in the American la la land will suffer the same fate because as a Republic deteriorates into a democracy, it eats itself. History is repleat with Republic’s gone democratic, and all too many examples of how liberal relativity lead to self ruin.
FDR said it first, I’ll correct it for today.

Thank you for the information. It is refreshing to see something like that. However, I still remember that when the Nazis want the adult Jews of Paris, the French also made a point of sending the children too.
The Protestant French acted as a group and defied the Nazis and their French collaborators. They didn’t hesitate to act and put their lives on the line. No Jew was turned in to the Nazis while in their care and I think some even gave their lives to protect them. Pierre Sauvage wrote a book and did a documentary movie on the subject.
