Caroline Glick: ‘For Those People Who Hate Me, Expect More’ (Updated)
“We Con the World,” a parody video supporting the Israeli commandos involved in the flotilla incident, has collected several million views on YouTube and other video hosting sites. Caroline Glick — deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post — produced the video for the website Latma, intended for the Israeli domestic audience. But as Glick explains to PJM:
My team and I were very angry for the way Israel was being demonized, and for the way our soldiers were being demonized by the international media, by the UN, and by the Arabs. We were responding to those people who dared to call our naval commandos murderers for defending their country and themselves from a lynch mob. When we saw the international community pile on against Israel, it was so dramatic and overwhelming we decided to produce the song in English.
Warner/Chappell, which owns the rights to “We are the World,” had YouTube remove the video, supposedly for copyright infringement. Glick, who is appealing, contends there were no violations of the fair use doctrine or U.S. copyright law. Indeed, I quickly found that YouTube hosts another parody video, “Obama’s Inauguration Party Song,” which also uses the tune from “We are the World”. Neither YouTube nor Warner saw fit to pull this video, though the lyrics are objectionable.
Glick comments about the obvious hypocrisy:
They are trying to personalize everything and demonize what they can’t contend with. The left has one card, and they play it over and over again for dealing with issues. They have no answer but to resort to the politics of destruction. Their favorite method is to call anyone who gives them an answer that they can’t contend with a racist. They cry for terrorists who would destroy them, but come out against democracies.
Critics claim that a line from the Glick video — “There’s no people dying, so the best that we can do is create the greatest bluff of all” — is insensitive to the nine people who died on the flotilla. From Huffington Post columnist Eileen Read:
Even if she hates people of another race or religion and is allowed by her editors to poke fun at them in a tasteless and blatantly racist way, she should be fired for making fun of the dead.
Glick replies:
What we were referring to are the people in Gaza. No one in Gaza is dying as a consequence of Israel’s naval blockade off the coast. The line was not about the specific flotilla. The point is the bluff they are putting together: that the flotilla was for a humanitarian mission, when in fact what they want to do is really attack Israel.
I love Cargoline Glick. I think that the parody is a little bit corny, but gets the point across. If you haven’t seen it yet, do so to show your support.
Yeah, it’s about time the usually leftish Jerusalem Post take note of the hypocrisy and tepid support for Israel that is coming from Obama and most of his crew. Perhaps more American Jewish voters will wake up and stop being predictably “in the tank” for the Democratic party. As for the Hollywood Jewish big shots; forget it, they will still gleefully attend the next Obama fundraiser gala.

It’s HaAretz that is the definite LEFT WING English paper in Israel. Maybe 20 – 30 years ago the Jerusalem Post was left, but not since at LEAST 10 years go — they are a definite RIGHT – Center-RIGHT paper. They will occasionally (as does the Wall Street Journal) publish dissenting opinions — but that is merely to keep themselves looking fair. But I think the shift occurred when it was sold to a new owner and he brought in lots of new blood. Also, read the comments — lot’s of right wingers like us
The J-Post, unlike say Commentary, or PJM for that matter is a “Full Service Newspaper” and thus must cater to the needs of many different people — it’s not *merely* a political magazine or blog. But there’s no question that it shifted right a good while back now.
Forget about high profile Jews in the United States – they’re not going to touch the controversy around Israel. With more muslims in the US who are violently sensitive to criticism and also prospective customers don’t expect a lot of help from Hollywood. They will back anything that is politically correct with their fan base but back off otherwise. Eminem just came out for gay marriage – like, what else is he gonna say. The only celebrities you can trust are the ones who say nothing because they are at least being honest. Otherwise it’s pretty much Africa this and Haiti that because their is no political downside. My own feeling is that the United States should leave the United Nations and use the building as a library because it is utterly corrupt, giving a voice to too many countries that have the humanity IQ of a donkey.

She is very intelligent, but also ends up playing the game based on ‘thought’ terms that are dictates by others.

She spoke before a fully packed room this past February in Jerusalem, at an anti-terror conference which I helped organize. She speaks plainly, clearly, factually, weaving together geopolitical analysis with strategic acumen. Most of the attendees were law enforcement from the US, hoping to learn lessons from Israeli security personnel on how to secure their communities from Islamic threats, surely heading to ANY city USA.
The crowd adored her, admired her no nonsense demeanor, and would have listened to her all night if they could.

Youtube takes videos down if they get complaints, even ridiculous complaints. Two years ago I had posted a video how I got ripped off by a scurrilous knave who calls himself the Amazing Randi. I offered ten thousand dollars to anyone if I couldn’t easily prove the Randi million dollar challenge is nothing more than a disingenuous publicity stunt. His followers posted on Youtube all sorts of hate postings and complained vociferously to Youtube and had my video taken down. If a bunch of Arabs complain to Youtube they will take off anything the religious fanatics complain about. Israel attacked a NATO ship? Please. This ship had on board, with Turkish knowlege and approval, about 40 fighters with tools and weapons and a command hierarchy. Apparently Turkey didn’t want to declare war on Israel. What they yet may play for, is to force a situation when they would claim (however dubiously and falsely) that Israel has attacked them (eg. by sending a military convoy “protecting” the next “humanitarian flotilla”, with Israeli navy intercepting them). Which would also be a declaration of war by Turkey on Israel, but could be played by intentionally dumb media as a war action of Israel on Turkey.
Now *that* would force NATO to declare war on Israel, automatically, under the NATO treaty.

There’s another way to think of it: A NATO member country tried to run the legal naval blockade, and then attacked the armed forces of the country legally enforcing its blockade. Was NATO attacking Israel?
The Mavi Marmara was bought by the IHH, a private “charity” in Turkey, and was flying under the flag of Comoros on May 31, 2010. The Union of the Comoros is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and Tanzania.
If evidence comes out that definitively links the discounted sale of the Mavi Marmara to the IHH by the Istanbul Municipal Government, then NATO should boot Turkey out. She’s right! Turkey pulled this stunt to deligitimize Israel by calling it humanitarian.They actually want people to get killed for publicity (Israel offered to send all the goods on board to Gaza). Hamas also does not mind its people killed – they send rockets into Israeli towns fired from schools, mosques, hospitals, homes…, all to gain sympathy while endangering its people.
A Jewish strength is their sense of humour, comes from always being on the outside, looking in. About time someone like Caroline weaponized it!

Fair use doctrine is simple. If you’re not stealing someone’s work to make money that they should be making, that is to say if you’re not stealing revenue from the creator, and if your use is intended to further a public discussion or to be satirical or both, and if in the use of the material you are not slandering or libeling the creator or implying the creator was involved in the production of your satire, then you’re not ‘unfairly using’ his or her product.
It is about demonstraging a loss of some sort. If the creator of material argues a loss, of reputation or revenue or anything else, because of the use of it, it has to be a GOOD argument.
“we con the world” is satirical on multiple levels, takes a public position on a public discussion, and does not harm the owners or slander them.

I love Caroline Glick, too! I first read her work during the 2008 presidential campaign, when she pointed out Obama’s less than stellar track record regarding Jewish issues. Even Hillary Clinton seemed to be more pro-Israel than Obama, a trend which has reversed and accelerated. Glick has pointed out how the US State Department seems to have a hardline anti-Israel policy now. THAT may be why Hollywood Jews won’t touch this controversy. They see Hillary as their own, and their one chance to “own” Washington D.C. Stand up and be counted as opposing HRC just to support some Jewish foreign thing? Don’t hold your breath. What amazes me is how the unabashed antisemitics in Hollywood are not blacklisted. Even Mel Gibson was discommodated more for his conservative and religious leanings than his drunken antisemitic rant.
