moore is a good film maker but he obviously has a POV but so does the nightly news. Well as far as American capitalism, one must include the reality of the system, including subsidies and lobbyist and all the other politics etc, there is no purity in life in this or any other system. one need not be a ideologue on any side to admit that the US economy is doing terrible, that things for the middle class have been going downhill through republican controll and democrat, the dowjones and DGP are not the only measures of an economy, the fundamental need is for jobs that can support a middle class life, and the current situation shows us that indeed capitalism is eating itself. if a company must outsource jobs to india to make a better profit meanwhile laying off American workers, we can see where this leads, but is anyone powerful enough and brave enough to actually do anything about it? to ignore the negative in our system is to invite disaster worse than we see today.

86 KDW:
"There was never any complaint from either side that they didn’t get enough time to scrutinize the Patriot Act. "

The bill was brought to the floor of the House of Representatives on October 23, the same day it was introduced. Many Democrats expressed extreme displeasure over the hurried nature of the process. Rep. Bobby Scott said, “I think it is appropriate to comment on the process by which the bill is coming to us. This is not the bill that was reported and deliberated on in the Committee on the Judiciary. It came to us late on the floor. No one has really had an opportunity to look at the bill to see what is in it since we have been out of our offices.” Rep. John Conyers, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, declared, “we are now debating at this hour of night, with only two copies of the bill that we are being asked to vote on available to Members on this side of the aisle.”

PS: The bill was NOT available to the public . . . I wonder why.

87 PtB . . . Let me help you out . . .

To KDW @ #86:

Stop confusing poor Now and Then with facts. You should know by now if it isn't written in the Soros Talking Points he/she/it gets issued each week for posting on PJM, then it doesn't really exist in his/her/it's mind.

#78 Now and Then:
"The Patriot Act. Now you know."

No I don't know. Fill us in, in your own words, how you
decided Republicans voted for The Patriot Act without
reading it. I'm not interested in reading some
goofball blogging on The Huffington Post. The Patriot
Act was given plenty of time for debate before being
voted on (it wasn't presented to the Congress after
midnight on the day of the vote, like the Democrats
Stimulus Bill). There was never any complaint from
either side that they didn't get enough time to
scrutinize the Patriot Act. What makes you think
nobody read it?

Please, show this site you have some idea of what you
are talking about?

Moore reminds me of the evil version me. We are both fat, ugly guys from humble working class backgrounds. The difference is my oarents taught me about personal responsibility. I joined the army as teenager and was a verteran at 21. I worked my way through college and earned everydime I have ever made. I have worked for city, state and federal government as well as the private sector. So while he was busy making movies (I will not call them documentaries) that are 2 hour whinning sessions, I was out earning a living providing requires services.

He is a millionaire and I am a suburban workin' stiff. How can he bring himself to complain about the very capitalist system that made him a millionaire. Oh yeah; he's a raving hypocrite

"Nobody’s against capitalism or free markets except “conservatives” who want to ensure only the largest sharks get to eat…"

Which party just handed out billions of dollars to the "sharks"? Hint..I don't think they were conservatives...

73: "We know there were a large number of Democrats
who voted for the stimulus bill without reading it. They
couldn’t possibly have read it – the way that monstrosity
of a bill was presented to Congress in the middle of
the night, the day of the vote, made reading it impossible."

The final bill was only about 1000 pages, not something that's impossible to read in a night if you're someone who regularly reads. That being said..the final incarnation of the bill was over 1000 pages...however, the original bill was about 600 and came to Congress over a week before. All one had to do was read the additions and changes as the week progressed. I was capable of reading the whole thing and keeping track of it, but then..I'm not an idiot.

80: "they should be able to write it in 100 pages in language that a high school graduate, or at least a college graduate, can understand with ease"

So, what color IS the sky in your little world? Seriously, who thinks this poorly? What is wrong with you?

And, to address the overall: Moore's film isn't about bashing capitalism in general, it's about the specifics of how Wall Street stole billions of dollars from you and I and were then rewarded for it. Nobody's against capitalism or free markets except "conservatives" who want to ensure only the largest sharks get to eat...and you clueless dimwits fall for it over and over again. They want redistribution of wealth (in an upward direction) and you dimwits fall for it.

Not having seen the movie, I will reserve judgment, but MM did liven up Hannity's show. MM definitely won that confrontation on points. Hannity claimed that he goes to church all the time, but couldn't remember anything about the last service. Probably Beck and Moore would have been a more even match, because Beck might have actually THOUGHT about Moore's film and responded accordingly.

Since Colmes left the show, I rarely watch Hannity because it is such predictable stodgy stuff; anti-Obama all the time. I wouldn't say that O'Reilly is exactly fair and balanced, but he's a lot further down that road than Hannity is

I have absolutely no problem with a Senator voting against a bill without reading it on the basis that it is 1000 pages long and too convoluted to understand. It's quite reasonable to oppose such things on principle. If it's so important, they should be able to write it in 100 pages in language that a high school graduate, or at least a college graduate, can understand with ease. Break it up into multiple bills if you can't fit everything you need into 100 pages.
