If this were sometime in 1930-1953 I have no doubt Chomski would be lecturing us on the benevolence of Stalin.

I think that Chomski merely childishly delights in the role of outsider. Having observed that many of histories great thinkers have been opposed to many aspects of their own societies, he has leapt to the fallacious conclusion that being opposed to ones own society makes one a great thinker.

He has forgotten that the evil and destructive are also commonly opposed to aspects of their own societies and that they are far, far more common than great thinkers.

If I were writing this I would have explicitly acknowledged the hoax, but it reads more like an inadvertent omission springing from hack-n-slash editing than something else. After all, there are all the references to a hoax exposed elsewhere, just not the expose itself. Not an agenda problem, but an error.

The report of Columbia professors going to Tehran was revealed as a hoax just days after it came out; after all, how could professors “officially” apologize for the actions of the president without the university’s blessing? Yet this story — written about 6 weeks later — says nothing about that development. Could it be that the author put his agenda before accuracy?

The irony here about the academic apologists for terrorists is that one the one hand,they brush off and dismiss the myriad of violations of civil rights and human rights that the terrorists commit. When it comes to the US, to Dubya, etc. they are hyper-vigilant in denouncing the tiniest actual or perceived miscue. Double standards, to the nth!
