Campaign Shock: Democrat Rep. Maurice Hinchey Uses Meeting with Castro to Raise Money UPDATED

Like Oliver Stone, Democrat Rep. Maurice Hinchey seems to think Castro is cool. This makes Hinchey a fool, and unfit for Congress. UPDATED with reaction from George Phillips.

The race for NY-22 has been a bit of a sleeper up to now, but it might wake up quickly. It turns out that Rep. Maurice Hinchey, the Democrat incumbent, has been using a photo of himself with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro to raise money for his campaign.  Capitol Hill Cubans has posted the invite, which is worth putting up here and everywhere else.

Which one is the pet here?

By now Castro’s history is well known to anyone with a clue.  He has spent the past several decades as a torturing, oppressing, America-hating, terrorist-supporting Communist thug. Hinchey’s history may need a little refreshing — up to now he’s best known outside his district for asserting that the Bush administration let Osama bin Laden go free on purpose to justify the Iraq war.  Classy.

Like Moe over at Red State, I get that there are honorable arguments on both sides of the Cuba embargo. I’m conflicted over it these days myself — if I thought that a fatally strong dose of capitalism right now would push that regime over the edge, I’d be all for it. Whatever sweeps the Castro crime family out of power and brings freedom to the island is fine by me. But going by his history, Hinchey isn’t interested in Cuba’s freedom. He’s just interested in cozying up to an American enemy. Classy.

At any rate, George Phillips is the Republican who’s running to take NY-22 from Democrat piece-of-work Maurice Hinchey.  Phillips has already differentiated himself from Hinchey over ObamaCare – Hinchey voted for it, while Phillips says he would’ve voted against it.

I’m spitballin’ that Phillips wouldn’t sidle up to Weirdbeard for any reason, at all.

UPDATE: Republican nominee George Phillips is wasting no time blasting Hinchey.  Here’s Phillips’ reaction, given exclusively to PJM:

“It’s appalling that a sitting member of the United States Congress would use a photo of himself and Fidel Castro to raise money. Castro imprisoned, tortured and killed thousands of his own people and has been one of the world’s most infamous dictators in the past half century. I hope the American people will join me in fighting to fire a US congressman so directly opposed to America’s founding principles.”

  1. Rep. Maurice Hinchey isn’t the only member of Congress proud of their meeting with Castro. A few years ago, there were members of Congress, especially the Black Caucus, who met with Castro and were “impressed” by him and had nothing but good things to say about him. What does it say about elected members of Congress, all of them Democrats, who think that a murderer like Castro is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Throw, these, bums, OUT! November is coming, my friends, and we will have our say. They ignore us, they insult us, and they belittle us. But come November we can show what Americans CAN do to these corrupt socialists. We can force them to find a new day job, that’s what we can do. The power is with us, NOT them.

Find some friends, convince them to vote, then actually get them to vote. Show the people in Washington that, in the final analysis, we do have the power to make a difference. They may try to darken our days with corruption, lies, and horrific spending, but we can show them the way out of Washington. It’s through the ballot box.

Hinchey belongs to the Progressive Caucus. Is there more that needs to be said?

  3. Is this a supposedly a safe Dem district? It seems to be. But…….in this campaign, perhaps George will beat ole lefty Maurice. It is the same in De., The media needs to investigate Chris Coons ,another avowed Marxist. Time to stop excusing Dem corruptors like Rangel, Jefferson, Jackson Lee , Hinchey, Grayson et al.

Doesn’t it make you wonder sometimes about the electorate that puts these yo yos in office? I know. You’re all a lot more worried about the stupid, evil b__ta__s that nominated him. I see your point. It’ll be interesting to see how this exercise in political stupidity plays out but if the Republicans lose this district America is in deeper trouble than I thought.

I guess Maurice hasn’t been keeping up with his current events? Fidel apparently feels that Communism doesn’t work. Opps, no Che t-shirts for Maurice

  6. 6. call me Roy

I guess Maurice has not been keeping up with Cuban current events. Apparently Fidel doesn’t care too much for Communism anymore. Opps, no Che t-shirts for Maurice to bring back to the Barry Hussein Administration.

Don’t forget Maurice Hinchey is a truther. Before Charles Johnson went psycho an Ithaca native recorded Mr. Hinchey at a speech and LGF posted it. The audio was proof that Hinchey was 100% truther.

I’m sure the audio can still be found.

  8. 99% of the world sees Fidel as a hero who stood up to and outfoxed the Evil Empire. Before he took over the Cuban people were starving, illiterate and disease ridden. And his human rights record is the best in the hemisphere. The US keeps poor people in prison for decades for small drug offenses, most cops and prosecuters are stupid, incompetent and corrupt. Cuba has free medical AND dental care and no homeless. Jesus Christ would bless Fidel and send US leaders to Hell. The only reason Fidel is slandered in the US is because he took rich people’s property and spread the wealth around and because he’s kicked our ass for 50+ years. The man is a Saint.

I agree completely with you. Castro has done amazing things and all of it was from the ground up. Cuba has a great Healthcare system, education system and just because its not necessarity “Democratic” doesn’t mean its bad in anyway. The United States has hurt the Cuban people more than the Cuban Government has EVER done by imposing the Trade Embargo. this Alienates the people and Castro has taken advantage of this and has created true Sovereignty for the Island. Pretty good for a country that only had Sugar Exports to rely on during the reign of Batista.

In reply to Ed Driscoll: Don’t be sarcastic, Ed. Anonymous might be an old lady. Maybe Maurice’s mother.

In reply to anonymous: Change your handle to TROLL, or use your actual name. Or, fly to Cuba for your health care, dental care and housing. Would serve you right!

I have been to Cuba. The people are a broken people. Food is rationed. Children have no milk. Hospitals have no bandages and drugs are out of date. An individual can’t even fish for himself. Everything of any value has to be bought on ther black market. It is a mess. The nice hotels for tourists are very nice. Everything else is broken. The people are in bad shape and hate the government. Maurice Hinchey is a Socialist and he and Fidel must have had some good chats over some Cuban rum and Cuban cigars. Communism is not working there.

Your Cuban experience was much different that mine. The Cuban people were very nice, hospitable in every way, knew how to have a good time as well as hold a bond to there National Culture. Also while I was there I didn’t see any major signs of Poverty. What Havana was known for has completely changed, from the Mafia ran City rampant with crime and prostitution to a prosperous City deserving of respect.

  13. Anonymous : The 99% of the World who you say likes Fidel would also hate the USA. If Castro had good intentions in the late 50′s they are all dead. He is a murderous dictator of a Communist country. Maurice Hinchey posing with him shows that he would fall into the 99% that hates America. I think they call it “Birds of a feather”.

  14. Hinchey is a cancer on the 22nd CD & America.
He is wrong on Iran, wrong on the Goldstone letter, wrong on sanctions against America’s enemies, wrong ! Wrong ! WRONG !!!
    He is corrupt & deceitful.
lately he has shown signs of dementia or early Alzheimers & his staff is covering it up.
I engaged him at an event in Kingston & he had no idea what or who i was discussing & on both topics he knew the subjects well. SAD ! Pathetic !
    DANGEROUS to our National Security.
George Phillips for Congress – please !!!!

  15. 15. deguello

Why is anyone surprised? Fidel’s neo stalinism is what liberal democrats hope to impose on the USA. Hinchey is a pile of animated, stalinist excrement, but he’s more honest than say,Obama or Pelosi.

  16. Hinchey has been on the wrong side of every National security issue. He votes with Hamas and refuses to deal with Iran. He voted AGAINST sanctions. He is so far out of touch it is ridiculous.
