Border Security Is President Obama’s Responsibility, Whether He Likes It or Not

But the role of President Obama and his party in the border failure is worse than mere rhetorical excess. In fact, in 2009 the Obama administration cut funding for needed technological upgrades to our border security infrastructure. And there were signs even before Arizona passed SB 1070 that the Democrats planned to create a divisive battle over immigration reform as a means of mitigating their losses in the upcoming November elections, and as a misguided attempt to woo Hispanic voters. They had no interest in doing anything or taking any action that would actually enhance border security. The Democrats wanted the battle to distract from their terrible record on the economy, federal spending, their partisan and misguided health care takeover, and other issues. Such a battle would not have represented the hope and change that President Obama promised when he campaigned for the presidency. It would have represented one of the most cynical and irresponsible political campaigns in recent memory. But that is the battle that President Obama and the Democrats relished for the summer of 2010. They read the polls, which show them losing the U.S. House and possibly the Senate, and they sought to divide America on an issue that ought to be beyond partisanship: national security. Given the fact that, a few years ago, the Democrats filibustered Miguel Estrada’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court “because he is Hispanic,” it is perhaps not altogether surprising that the Democrats as a party would craft such a devious and nakedly race-based strategy. But it is shocking to see the president of the United States cast aspersions on a state that is acting to correct one of his failures.

If it has done nothing else, Arizona’s law has forced the nation to confront the fact that in one of its core responsibilities, the federal government has failed the people. Given this fact, it is more than fair to ask why the federal government under Democratic rule keeps trying to take on more and more responsibility and authority over the lives of law-abiding citizens and legal residents. Why, for instance, are the Democrats in Washington pushing for more control over the Internet, and why are they advocating a national ID card? And it is more than fair to demand that the federal government deal first with the jobs that the Constitution actually gives it before expanding its role into areas where the Constitution is silent and may actually stand against these Democratic pet projects.

America is the land of opportunity, and should always remain that. In many ways America’s immigration laws are among the most open in the world, and should remain as such. But everyone from around the world who wishes to come to America and participate in the magic blend of opportunity and freedom that our nation represents should abide by our laws. That’s all we ask.

Border security, especially in the age of transnational terrorism, is national security. It is time for President Obama to drop the divisive, race-based politics-as-usual rhetoric and do his job. It is time for Washington to secure our borders, first, without folding in amnesty to those who have transgressed our immigration laws. If Washington does not secure our borders, there will be more violence on our uncontrolled border, more law enforcement agents and private citizens will be injured and possibly killed, and the states will have no choice but to continue to take matters into their own hands. Texas will craft strategies that will work for Texas to secure our border. It is only fair to our state’s employers, our taxpayers, and Texans of every heritage that we do so.  President Obama can call that “irresponsible” all he wants, but the lion’s share of responsibility for securing our borders is in his hands as long as he remains president. That job is his, whether he wants it or not.

The people who understand racism the most as it stands are ironically white people, because they are accused of it so often (normally without merit) that they put more time into thinking about if they are indeed racists or not. Minorities do not do this, and it is even more true that minorities automatically assume they are exempt from being in the wrong (put it that way) when it comes to racism.

Before it’s assumed that I am being “racist” I admit that I am speaking generally, (I use quotes because the right term is ‘prejudiced’, but I would contend that such prejudice is based on statistics). Not all people conform to this modeling, but we also do not pull stereotypes from thin-air, do we? I reiterate, blacks do not feel the same way about disliking, or hating “white people” the same way society has rightfully labeled as negative, racism towards blacks.

And if you, minorities-who-do-the-above, were only trying to get non-racists people to become foolish, as I’ve done here, Mission Accomplished! I say this is foolishness not because it is wrong, but because it is not based on wisdom, but statistics. I hate statistics, but when it seems that minorities (or people who are against the “white establishment”, etc) will only heed rhetoric… you use it.

Nothing will be done in Texas until Mr. Perry is re-elected.30% of the hispanic vote is better than 10%.

  3. 3. LeighB

Hooray for Texas! Expecting this President to do his job on border security will earn you a fair amount of attention from the Chicago gang, heat Texans can easily handle. Now, if you require him to produce his birth certificate to be on the ballot in 2012, then you will get the same level of heat AZ is getting. I’m guessing Obama views this as a social justice issue and will act according to his values. Bring on the elections!

Go to Mexico, Brazil, or any south american country and try to enter illegally. After you have spent several weeks-months in the 5 star prison hotels maintained with impeccable cell service and laundry services, you might have an audience with the animal circus court professionally maintained to expedite your accidental incursion into their sovereign nation.

After 30 minutes of pre advice with your defense attorney, in that position because he would not accept bribes, you will be presented with two separate legal systems; one if you have friends with money, another if you don’t. Assuming you have money, you will be released upon payment of Court fee’s. If not, you will be gringo-toy for several years.

People are walking all over our nation because we let them, as well having a truly idiotic policy regarding illegal drugs. The combination of these two issues have resulted in Mexico sliding towards a Narco-State, and ourselves becoming overrun with casualties and freeloaders and smugglers and kidnappers and murderers and drug traffickers.

Texas needs to show the Nation how its done. Arizona may have started the move, let Texas finish it.

  5. That the Federal Government hasn’t done more to secure our borders is shameful. Border protection is one of the Federal Government’s most important responsibilities specifically mentioned in the Constitution and it has been ignored for decades here in this country. But the dirty little secret as to why our government allows this to happen is because we seem to need cheap migrant farm workers as well as cheap factory workers (especially in the meat-packing industry). And, as we all know, big businesses do have a say in whether or not we really secure our borders. So, if the borders are finally secured, are we ready to pay $2 for an apple or $4 or $5 a pound for beef? Those numbers may seem exaggerated, but you get the picture. Cut off the flow of cheap labor and most of our food costs will go up dramatically. Are we ready for that? If we are, then the borders will be closed. If not, we will get more of the same.

    • Boca Condo King

So what if we do pay more for food?

We are already the fattest nation on earth, cutting back may help us.

If formerly underemployed Americans are working for good wages as meat packers and farm workers, doesn’t that help their families?

If our kids could get well paying jobs as dishwashers and cooks in restaurants and manage to get through college without a heap of debt, doesn’t that help all of us?

Finally, the USA is greatest when we seek to make labor more efficient (think mechanized agriculture feeding the world) as opposed to working around our laws to make labor cheaper, (think slavery and exploited low wage migrant illegal workers).

If the cost of labor goes up, our great capitalist system will figure something out. When the cost of plastering walls grew to great, someone invented drywall. If a restaurant cannot afford to get it’s dishes washed, they will move to disposables. And perhaps someday an inventor will create a dishwasher that will collect clean and stack the dishes so businesses do not need more then one highly paid dishwasher.

    • Saltherring

A relatively small number of illegals come to the U.S. to pick crops and then return to their country of origin. Most illegals cross our southern border for the free stuff; food stamps, public housing, education, medical care, etc. And many of those who DO work send their sub-minimum-wage earnings back to the extended family in Mexico in order to claim poverty….and access to our generous welfare system.

And then there is the criminal element; those who cross the border to deal drugs, steal, murder our citizens, molest our children and rape American women. 35% of federal prisoners are illegal aliens, as are 20% of Arizona’s state prisoners.

It is time to close our southern border, send the illegals back to their country of origin and let Americans decide who legally enters to pick crops…..and then returns home.

    • K.T.

I live in Washington State where many of those apples are grown. We also grow very many other things here – and most of that is produced with cheap import labor (illegals). When you factor in the price of an apple picked by the illegal – don’t forget to factor in the cost of the the girlfriend and 2 or 3 kids – all of whom are on state welfare with medicaid and food stamps.

Now whats the price of that cheap apple you are about to buy? The price of your food isn’t always what you see on the cash register.

    • The simple answer to the question of who will fill jobs Americans won’t do is to allow more legal immigration. That is if there really is such a thing as “jobs Americans won’t do”. We certainly shouldn’t support the exploitation of a large subgroup of people to save a few cents. Why do so many Hispanics and Blacks support this? Who gets hurt when low income jobs become even lower income jobs because of illegal immigration? Cesar Chavez was very much against illegal immigration for that very reason. My biggest concern with the Arizona and now maybe Texas laws is that many illegals that might have gone there will now come to my state of New Mexico. In fact our Governor is inviting them to come. We already give them drivers licenses and that allows them to register to vote. Recently an illegal alien was caught raping a ten year old in Albuquerque, a sanctuary city. He had been arrested twice before for sex crimes but since the police aren’t allowed to question his or his parent’s legality, (he was a juvenile), he was able to rape again.

      • Saltherring

Very sad about the young boy and the disgraceful and unlawful “sanctuary city” designation, Rancher. But perhaps AZ and (hopefully) TX laws will spur New Mexicans to elect a government that serves its citizens by enforcing the law. Same for CA. Washington state, where I live, issues drivers licenses and big-time welfare and education benefits to illegals. Time for a new government here too.

      • RagnarD

Rancher – After 57+ years I have left NM to take work in Tx. I am glad to be here. NM no longer offers good jobs even to the educated citizen. Richardson is an Oreo and a corrupt pig. He needs to go to jail. Either the Feds do their duty and provide for the common defense as called for in the Constitution or we will have to do it for ourselves. We need to put the corrupt political class on notice that they have less than 6 months to shape up or else.

Frankly, I do not think that The 0bamanation will allow the elections this fall. I think he will self coup and declare martial law. He is a traitor and criminal poseur.

    It’s interesting…

The Obama administration is certainly doing all it can against illegals moving in and setting up homes, getting jobs living their peaceful lives…

It has set up monitoring of this illegal activity….

The current administration holds nothing back to stop this activity, even to the point of racial profiling. It has been clear it demands that these people not be able to break the laws…

    This statement is the key:

“And there were signs even before Arizona passed SB 1070 that the Democrats planned to create a divisive battle over immigration reform as a means of mitigating their losses in the upcoming November elections, and as a misguided attempt to woo Hispanic voters.”

That’s the real agenda. Obama has no interest in America or its well-being. As a pathological narcissist his focus is only on himself. The BackRoom Gang who run him have their own agenda: inserting statism into the US. Both of these agendas deny individual freedom, reject capitalism and insert an authoritarian control over the people. Both these agendas require power over the people.

Obama’s narcissism requires that he feel in control of people.

He uses misinformation as a key tactic; he’ll say whatever is needed to an audience to gain their support. The fact that it’s untrue is irrelevant. He’ll make a different statement to another audience the next day. That’s also why he is against the internet and such media systems because they enable individuals to rebut and criticize his statements.

And he uses emotional manipulation to gain control. So, he’ll insert fear into America – remember his health care assertions that doctors ‘take out tonsils’ and ‘cut off limbs’ just for the money? Now he’s declaring that IF you don’t have your ID card with you, it’s ‘adios amigos’ – ignoring that all legal immigrants must by law carry their ID and that an illegal alien is well, illegal. Of course, if you criticize this, he’ll accuse you of racism and bias.

Watch this turn into yet another manipulative diversion by Obama and Gang. He’s after the hispanic votes in California and Florida.

  8. 8. Theo Goodwin

Actually, the price of produce is pretty much independent of the price of labor, as it is easy to show. In Florida, the going price for an apple is $1. So, how many apples can a rather lazy apple picker pick in one hour? Sixty? If so, then the apple picker produces $60 for the grocery chain. How much does the apple picker get? Five dollars? So, if we double the apple picker’s wages it adds only 8% to the cost of the apple. If we add another five dollars to triple the wages, that five dollars adds a smaller percentage and so on. What’s the lesson? People who tell you that the price of produce is driven by the cost of farm labor, the pickers, are liars who are out to support their very greedy behavior.

    • Mike G

Perhaps there is little significance in the produce picking arena but there are countless illegal workers in other areas – for example all of the construction trades, gardening, food services, etc. – where lower wages are definitely a factor.

When someone pays $10 per hour for gardening or $15 per hour for roofing, they are saving real money versus what they would pay if the workers were legal and had to follow all of our labor laws and regulations. In our town, the building department is stern and unyielding when it comes to your obligation to use only licensed contractors who obey all labor laws. And yet they sponsor and pay for a “day laborer” center from which illegal workers are picked up each morning by contractors and home owners and distributed all over town. No acknowledgement of any irony here, it’s just a result of strange bed fellows – the anal retentive control freaks in the building department and the liberal, only-enforce-the-laws-we-like city council being “kind” to illegal immigrants.

But the most instructive way to see this is that the users of these cheaper services are getting their “good deals” at the expense of others who pay taxes to educate and provide benefits and who pay higher health care premiums to cover medical care for those here illegally. It’s really a huge transfer of wealth to those willing to participate in the breaking of labor laws from those who play the game honestly.

This kind of thing is right up the alley of the liberal democrats and the current regime – so no surprise here.

  9. 9. geoffgo

    Libertyship46@5,

I predict we’ll be paying those prices for food soon, independent of securing the border, based on US energy dependence; ie, the planting comes before harvesting.

Both of our political parties are participating in the slave trade and pretending to be diametrically opposed on the issue. For the “big biz” supported Republicans it’s about carving out the wage slave (lower cost labor) from the Democrat agenda that’s intent on enslaving everyone. Hence, the borders remain unsecured.

  10. I’m all for free speech, but what is to be done with racist groups like La Raza who openly advocate the overthrow of our country and lie about hisory in order to foment hatred against whites? That form of racist hate speech appears to meet with Obama’s approval, as not a word is spoken about it, but they all denounce the non-existent racism from Tea Partiers and even go so far as to fabricate stories for the MSM.

This excellent piece of work is an example of a necessary and sufficient
    strategy for use by the states against the federal government;
Insist that the Feds do their job as specified in the Constitution,
instead of making up, and changing, the rules of the game to favor themselves.

The Democrats have successfully used Race issues in the past to keep control of the black population. The Dems can depend on black support in most elections. The primary reason is that the Dems ‘care’ about the blacks, but their caring has not resulted in any significant improvement of the black population as a group in the past 50 years. Now, the Dems think that they can similarly control the Hispanic population in the same manner. Are the Hispanics going to take the bait as easily as the blacks?

“Border Security Is President Obama’s Responsibility, Whether He Likes It or Not” -

No, he doesn’t like it, because:
    He loves power -
In the US, you get into power by vote -
When one cannot get the votes, he tries to cheat the system, a la Chicago way -
When that doesn’t work, one tries gerrymandering -
Then that doesn’t work, why not alter the nation’s demographics by injecting in this society 10 million more voters (read Democrat Party serfs) who: (a) are anyway socialistically conditioned, (b) have no sympathy for the traditions and history of this country (3) will be eternally grateful for this nice thing and will for long vote for you -
    Bingo!
Let’s grant citizenship to 10 million illegal aliens and we’ll be in business for the next generation -

  14. 14. Kevin_S

Shhhh. Don’t mention the “r” word when invoking the One’s name. He’s been avoiding the “r” word his whole life so don’t make things more difficult for the One or you just might be a racists.

Rick Perry says he will block a similar law in Texas. As a Texan let me tell you what will happen, we have seen this before.

Rick Perry will talk tough during an election year but all that will do is force the issue to get on the ballot for 2012, in a state wide referendum. Which I bet good money will happen. So the Arizona law is coming to Texas, and it will be rammed down Perry’s throat, but since he will be running for President about that time, he will decry it, then quietly accept it.

He knows its coming, and he realizes when and what form it must come to pass in Texas. By saying he is against it, actually accelerates its passage, and he knows it.

    • Pedro

Mr. Perry has too much baggage to run for president, plus he sounds like a cross between George Bush and a Televangelist.I believe people are looking for someone a slight bit more articulate than Gov. Perry.

  16. 16. chambers

Whatever the merits of the Arizona initiative, it has crystallized what could be our first honest-to-goodness grown-up discussion of illegal immigration. I say “could be” because the left will use every misdirection in the book to steer the focus from the bedrock question – Is the federal government prepared to enforce the immigration laws or not? Of course we know that this administration does not want to enforce these laws (at least int he case of Mexico) but can’t triangulate their way out of saying so. The media is doing its bit by frantically creating a smog of misinformaiton and infantile hyperbole aimed at diverting attention from the federal governments total abdication of responsiblity. Anytime a conservative finds themselves dealing with a hysterical leftie going on about Arizona’s racism and xenophobia they should calmly ask “What should a state do when the federal government has abdicated one of its prime functions which is to provide secure borders?”

  17. 17. Bilgeman

    Libertyship:
“But the dirty little secret as to why our government allows this to happen is because we seem to need cheap migrant farm workers as well as cheap factory workers (especially in the meat-packing industry).”

This is a secret only to people whose occupations are not at risk of illegal alien labor, (or thiose who THINK that this is so).

“So, if the borders are finally secured, are we ready to pay $2 for an apple or $4 or $5 a pound for beef?”

I’ll wager that this exact same eceonomic argument was used to support the Peculiar Institution of chattel slavery prior to 1860.

And yet…once it was decided that humans could no longer be property,(except of the Federal government’s), the Cotton and Sugar Cane and Tobacco industries managed to dope out how to grow, harvest, process and market their commodities anyway…and cheaply enough that I’ll bet you have at least two of those three commodities in your house or on your person right this minute.

    • Skydiver

It’s the greatest lie ever told. There is no such job that Americans won’t do. All politicians telling us that we need more immigrants to support America. That is a blatant lie. In all industries (those that are left, anyway). An yes, we are the best when the need arises, Builders, farmers, designers, engineers and so on and on and …..

We need to get rid of current flock and line of politicians, and then rebuild this nation.
      THE Republic.

  18. 18. deguello

Let’s understand two things clearly;First: border insecurity means security for the left wing plutocracy and its democrat puppets. The less secure the borders are, the more cheap ,exploitable, labor Left-wing CEOs can import to augment profits, and increase donations to the democrats. Second:illegal immigration means a large constituent group of welfare-dependent,ignorant,easy to manipulate, and ,therefore, democrat voting group with which to defeat the prsent majority of American’s oppossed to the regime. The Tea Party needs to demand that all red states band together to make it a FELONY to hire or protect illegal aliens knowingly.Illegal immigrattion is Democrat political warfare aimed at destroying a free nation!

  19. 19. t.dubya

The contents of page one of this article make a strong case for securing our borders. Page two descends into typical Republican/Democrat accusatory fodder that tries my patience. You will earn more credibility from me if you address the issue without the partisanship. I live and work in Texas. If the federal government will not secure our border, then Texans should take responsibility. Resovling that problem in an efficient and humane manner, without fanfare, will win you all the votes you need.

    • Jeanette

If you are serious about your comment, then vote for Perry in November…..even though he says Arizona’s bill won’t work in Texas..

The other option, Bill White, former mayor of Houston (from where I’m writing), made Houston a sanctuary city, tying law enforcements’ hands, filling up the hospitals with illegal immigrants for free services, provides information on how to get free everything, then left and we are left with almost a budget crisis paying with higher water prices, a scandal ridden transit authority, and proposals to cut services across the board…..

  20. 20. tanstaafl

A message from the chairman of the Republican Party of Texas: secure our borders, Mr. President, or Texas will follow in Arizona’s footsteps.

C’mon now, we all have to be dependent (co-dependent) on the federal government.

That lil’ ole 10th amendment re-affirming the Constitutional provision that…”The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” really PO’s the self-designated lords and overseers of everything on the planet in Washington DC.

It’s one of those little dealios that this President referred to as our negative liberties, i.e., anything limiting federal power & throwing a monkey wrench into the assumption of Absolute Power by the federal government.

Or, as Barack puts it…”States ? We don’t need no stinkin’ states. And if we must put up with their existence, at the very least they should be powerless to protect their own citizens.”

  21. 21. TA Dexter - Texas

The issue of the ‘Reconquista’ Movement may be of particular interest to Texans.

Why should invaders, to use the anthropological/historic term, seek to return a sizable portion of the United States to Mexico in the guise of ‘Aztlan’? This fabled, but never truly identified land, supposedly commands the States of California, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Interestingly enough, the very States with high economic value; States easily possessing World-class economies on their own.

If the ‘Reconquistas’ of MEChA and La Raza want to discuss returning Aztlan, that paradise of beauty, to its former glory, perhaps they should discuss starting in Mexico and Spain. Afterall, those countries are responsible for the destructions of the Aztlan-named Aztec and Mayan cultures.

Texas won it’s independence from Mexico shortly after a couple of ‘kerfuffles’ near San Antonio and San Jacinto. We were an independent country then; many Texans still argue we would be better off without the oppressive yoke imposed by Washington, D.C. In this light, ‘Aztlan’ is placed even further back in history than the Texas Revolution.

    • Prologue

How would “return” of those states benefit Mexico? Mexico depends on the money Mexican workers in the U.S. send home. They want that territory to be part of the U.S. More impoverished Mexican states won’t help them at all.

  22. 22. tanstaafl

That’s also why he (Obama) is against the internet and such media systems because they enable individuals to rebut and criticize his statements.

While his guys at the FCC move to effect “net neutrality”, aka the FCC’s reach to more completely dominate & control the internet.

Last week, Obama told the U Michigan graduating Seniors to balance out Glenn Beck with Arianna Huffington !

His latest comments at Hampton Univ. (VA) graduation were a hoot.

He dissed the confusion of ipods, xboxes etc., all of that kind of stuff vying for the mind’s attention these days.

Barry himself absolutely insisted on keeping his Blackberry after the secret service wanted to take it away from him.

Hint: ignore advice from manipulative narcissist

  23. 23. SeniorD

The ‘Reconquista Movement’ is of particular interest to Texans. After all, we fought and died for our independence from the corrupt Mexican Government and it’s dictator Antonio López de Santa Anna. It’s fair to say we’ll defend what our borders.

The fabled land of ‘Aztlan’ supposedly contains the States of California, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. A land of milk and honey where all peoples lived in harmony.

    Nice myth.

Unfortunately, those very same States exercise World-class economies on their own and we’re not for sale.

If the Reconquistas have a problem with the loss of Aztlan, perhaps they should discuss the issue with Spain first. Seems that country’s conquistadors had something to do with the demise of the Aztecs (a Aztlan name) and Mayan civilizations long before Mexico threw off their oppressors.

    Don’t mess with Texas.

To all the Texans chiming in, I wish to thank you for some of my favorite all time expressions, attributed as emanating from the Lone Star state.

    Great moral guidance here…

“Don’t piss on my boots and tell me it’s raining.”

“Never mud wrestle a pig. You’ll just get dirty and the pig likes it.”

And the expression Barack butchered in a lame swipe at Sarah Palin…

“You can put lipstick on a pig and call it Monique. But it’s still a pig.”

(no offense to pigs, which get the short end of the stick here :) )

  25. 25. HTuttle

Obama has always known when to play those differing with each other and against each other. It’s a clear part of his history.

  26. 26. tanstaafl

Whatever one thinks of Arizona’s new law, and there is much room for legitimate debate over it, for President Obama to call Arizona “irresponsible” for taking action to fix a federal failure is itself irresponsible.

    Excellent point.

Obama’s knee jerk comments about the AZ law are reminiscent of his knee jerk response (“without knowing the details of the incident”) that the Cambridge police “acted stupidly”.

    Irresponsibility personified.

Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the US ? Mexican drug gangs doing the kidnapping, for ransom, and worse ? Last couple of times I’ve driven through Phoenix, I had some very very dicey encounters myself.

Arizona amended its legislation last week to absolutely insure no preemptive profiling. A law can’t absolutely preclude human nature, but the state has acted in good faith and has a right, yea, an absolute obligation, to protect its citizens.

We were stupified at the restraint by Israel after multiple rocket attacks from both Lebanon and from the Gaza Strip. Then we would say if it was the USA being attacked we would hit them so hard that the stone age would be a step up. Now we have narco assassins crossing the border and the federal government is in total paralysis. Guess we have to be stupified at Obama’s restraint and thank Governor Brewer for her bold action.

If you’ve been watching the news lately you’ve probably heard a lot about the State of Arizona taking steps to enforce immigration laws within their state borders. The common argument against the state is that “local” law enforcement should not be enforcing immigration laws because it will lead to “profiling” and ultimately the harassment of legal citizens. What they fail to mention when they make this argument is that the AZ law can only be enforced after a lawful detention has been made. Meaning that if a person runs a red light or gets caught selling drugs then local law enforcement can take action against that person if it is determined that he or she is in the country illegally.

Here is the question you have to ask people when they raise the profiling argument. Do Border Patrol agents profile people when they make arrests at or near the border? If a Border agent sees a group of 4 or 5 people running through the desert why is he stopping them? Is it illegal to run through the desert? No he is “profiling” them based on location, appearance, actions etc. Based on the situation the Border agent assesses the facts and then detains the subject and if they are found to be here illegally sends them back across the border. “Profiling” always contributes to Probable Cause whether you like it or not since Probable Cause is defined as the culmination of facts and information that an officer possess that leads him to believe a crime has been or is about to be committed.

So if you really want to press the profiling argument raise the counterpoint that Border Agents do it all the time and if local law enforcement can’t or shouldn’t be detaining illegal aliens then why is it OK for Border Agents to basically do the same thing? What happens, is there some magical zone that once an illegal immigrant gets past the Border enforcement zone that he should no longer be detained? Or do we press the Border agents to only arrest illegals when they are actually caught in the act of climbing over the fence or wading through the river?

If it is OK for Border Agents to detain a suspect based on finding him walking through the desert then why all the fuss over having local law enforcement officers enforce the immigration laws after the illegal immigrant has broken another law? My opinion, enforce the laws, detain the suspects and send them back. Aggressive enforcement of our immigration policies will ultimately help drive down the costs associated with all of our government services. It doesn’t matter who is behind the badge making the arrest, if someone is that worried about the “quality” of the arrest then have the Border Patrol provide some training, it should be a pretty short class. I’ll even pay to sponsor a local officer to attend.

  30. 30. JED

The simple operant phrase is, “which part of illegal do you not understand.”
The states have an obligation to back federal law, even if the fed does not wish to vigorously enforce it. Giving a pass to “illegal” anything is the gateway to anarchy. Does progressive mean to erase all boundaries? Many states, besides the border states, could step forward to add ‘accountability and transparency’ to the millions of undocumented.

  31. 31. Carol

I am all for immigration, legally. We need a better way to do things.

We need to call our troops home to help defend our borders…funny how this is no longer on Obama’s agenda..bringing any troops back….
I do not believe defending our borders has ever been a priority..by any president. They seem to want to avoid any involvement..might lose a vote. To hell with following our laws.

Obama, however, seems to be the worse and doing it on purpose..”gonna teach those arrogant American citizens a lesson”..

  32. 32. Ruler4You

I have to agree with ‘Pedro’ I don’t believe Perry will do a damn thing until after the election, IF he does anything at all.

  33. 33. Alysse

One of the largest new problems that may emerge is internal terrorism from children of deported illegal parents. As much as deportation is following the law and is respectful to all Americans, can you imagine the many children with a grudge not seeing it that way? All because we permitted for SO MANY YEARS illegal residence. That’s a lot of suspects, profiling if you wish to say but I prefer watch list, and how possibly do we enforce (as we should) deportation while at the same time encouraging good citizenship in children whose parents were perceived to be taken away by the US government?

    • Carol

tHERE SHOULD BE NO ANCHOR BABIES IF A PERSON IS HERE ILLEGALLY, PERIOD!!
      SEND THEM ALL BACK…

Of course we know that will never happen. But, it should be illegal to be illegally in a country and use a child as an anchor..sounds like an oxymoron.

  34. 34. Mt Top Patriot

    Damn straight Ms. Adams!
The rule of law rules. Period.

There is not any excuse or politics that justifies or is warranted for the utter lack of responsibility on the part of my government to protect my country from all enemies and law breaking individuals, whether they cross our borders illegally or are domestic in origin.

The time for this manipulation of the situation to fulfill an agenda is long past. Only fulfillment of constitutional requirements is acceptable, and NOTHING ELSE!
The time for obama to either resign or do the job he has been elected to do is long past.
    DO YOUR DAMN JOB!

    • LeighB

Indeed. Do your job, Mr. President. For all Americans. Or, please develop a new seal for “Office of the President of the Blue States”.

      • tanstaafl

Do you remember the phony presidential seal Obama used in the waning months of his campaign ?

vero possumus, in latin, translates to si, se puede in Spanish, yes, we can, in English.

The illegal immigration thing has been raging for well over 25 years, far too long for there not to have been a solution to this clear cut, flagrant violation of federal law. (at the very least, you could have changed the federal law)

The current crowd of democrats wants to legitimize the 12-25 million (depending on whose estimates you use) currently in the United States in violation of federal law as their new voting bloc.

The Founders looked at corruption in Europe. Currently, the United States is going in precisely the direction they suggested it might.

“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe,
we shall become as corrupt as Europe.”

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

        ~T. Jefferson

        • LeighB

Dear No Free Lunch, Indeed I do remember the “official seal” for the Office of the President-Elect. Just think of the possibilities with the President of the Blue States, or as I’ll now refer to him, our BS-President. Blue Staters, you will have to love him enough for all the rest of us because we have some concerns and questions that MSM will never ask. Bring on the elections.

    Dear President Obama:
I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. Into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.
We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.
I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling President Calderon, that I’m on my way over?
Please let him know that I will be expecting the following

    1. Free medical care for my entire family.
    2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
    3. Please print all Mexican government forms in English.
    4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.
    5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.
    6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
    7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
    8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
    9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico , but, I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
    10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.
    11. I plan to fly the U.S. Flag from my house top, put U S. Flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
    12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.
    13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.
    14. I want to receive free food stamps.
    15. Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies.
    16. I’ll need Income tax credits so that although I don’t pay Mexican Taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.
    17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Gov’t pays $4,500 to help me buy a new car.
    18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I’ll get a monthly income in retirement.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. From Mexico . I am sure that President Calderon won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind help.
    You’re the man!!!

I’m sorry but I have to disagree here. Arizona’s lawyers in the state house tried to be cute and got caught.

I apposed the law not on the intent, Arizona has to do something, but because of its execution. The lawyers tried to write it with the full anticipation that it would be challenged in court. Think for a second. They wrote it knowing it had problems. Why?

At my website http://www.truthandcommonsense.com I spent probably more time than I should have describing why the law will fall on its face. Here is just one post-

    http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/04/25/telling-the-story-of-blue-haired-club-footed-midgets-and-stopping-a-known-drug-dealers/

I spent twenty years on the job, on the street dealing with the very issues the law will cause the police. It won’t be the lawyers or the politicians that get caught up here. Some poor cop, trying to follow those silly overly restrictive guidelines (which will protect the lawyers) will make a mistake, or worse will look like he made a mistake and that poor sob will become the poster boy for the civil rights case. There is always one, in this case there may be dozens.

The law avoids dealing with the real life problems the law causes which include but are not limited to; 1. what to do with them once you have them detained and can’t identify them. 2. Booking time, detention time. 3. Getting ICE to even call you back when you have ten sitting before you at the station. 4. Time on paperwork verses time on the street. Two or three stops and your entire shift is caught up on paperwork for hours and hours and hours.

Why is it badly conceived and inherently racist in its approach to the problem? Take the time to read the statute and put yourself in the position of being on the receiving end of the law.

    http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/04/29/over-at-redstate-neil-stevens-blinds-himself-with-charts/

In the above post I outline why the law has the problem it does. To put it simply the Arizona politicians did not punish business owners criminally. They made every thing else criminal, being an illegal, transporting an illegal, aiding an illegal, picking up an illegal for day work, but the one thing that would stop the flow of illegals today- the knowingly employing an illegal by a business in Arizona is not only not illegal, it is not an arrestable offense. Instead the politicians went to a lot of trouble avoiding anything that would hold business owners accountable. In fact, the system they set up will actually afford the potential political donor the opportunity to get a heads up they are under investigation.

    http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/04/28/arizona-law-has-no-teeth-for-the-businesses-a-bunch-of-outs-fueled-by-political-connections-it-was-too-good-to-be-true/

All I ask is to put aside the politics and ask yourself how would you eliminate the desire for illegals to cross. Take away the incentive which is the jobs and the programs. Make it illegal to knowingly employ an illegal. Make that offense criminal and arrestable on the spot. It can be as little as a misdemeanor, but trust me, no boss is going to jail for even one illegal. They will vet their employees immediately. Take out the politics and the “wink, wink, nod, nod” deals.

    Just saying…

    • BJ in NC

Points well taken. But the problems wit “processing” as you outline are not the problemcaused by the AZ law, the would(have) existed before the law! So while that is a real problem it speaks to cleaning up an existing problem that the people involved with it have ignored for a long time (why,Ido not know). That aside, I agree the law should include the employers who KNOWINGLY hire an illegal.—-take away the carrot!!!

Yes I agree, national security responsibiity is at the federal level, but that’s about it.
I find out today that the Mirida Initiative sends our money to Mexico and South American countries to help them beef up their security enforcement systems. 1.4 billion of OUR MONEY Voted yes by GW and John Cornyn at least.
Now I find Mr. Cornyn and K.B.Hutchinson backing the Southern Border Security Assistance Act to the tune of 300 million.
Sending money to New Mexico, Arizona, Texas AND California?
Anyone read how BROKE we are? Who’s kidding Who?

Sorry, I decided to take a stand on the conservative, fiscally responsible, less gov, God loving, gun owning side of the line in the sand.

I have a masters degree in economics and the big secret that the is being kept from the American people is wage equalization. When two counties border each other and have no boundries workers are free to move to either country that pays a higher wage. Eventually wages in both countries equalize. That is the big secret, Dems want to control the population by destroying the middle class and making everyone dependent on the government.

  39. It was reported today, May 13th, that Attorney General Holder has not yet read the Arizona law which he has been criticizing. The law was enacted over two weeks ago.

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who has been critical of Arizona’s new immigration law, said Thursday he hasn’t yet read the law and is going by what he’s read in newspapers or seen on television.

Mr. Holder is conducting a review of the law, at President Obama’s request, to see if the federal government should challenge it in court. He said he expects he will read the law by the time his staff briefs him on their conclusions.

“I’ve just expressed concerns on the basis of what I’ve heard about the law. But I’m not in a position to say at this point, not having read the law, not having had the chance to interact with people are doing the review, exactly what my position is,” Mr. Holder told the House Judiciary Committee.

This weekend Mr. Holder told NBC’s “Meet the Press” program that the Arizona law “has the possibility of leading to racial profiling.” He had earlier called the law’s passage “unfortunate,” and questioned whether the law was unconstitutional because it tried to assume powers that may be reserved for the federal government. (emphasis unnecessarily added)

The situation speaks for itself; no further comment on it seems necessary.

  40. It would be nice, actually invoking credibility, if the RPT and its chairbabe would accept a little responsibility for the fact that God’s gift to Texas ‘Publicans (Bush-43 for those of you who don’t speak sarcasm) didn’t do a stinkin’ thing to improve the security of the border. As a matter of fact he and Vicente Fox commiserated extensively to perpetuate the Statist agenda of unifying the North American continent.

Barak Hussein Obama May 1, 2010
    President of the United States

    President Obama:

This is the second time I have been required to speak with you regarding your unsatisfactory job performance as the President of the United States. I must remind you of the oath you took when you assumed the Presidency. You swore to “Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Article 4, section 4 of the constitution requires that you protect each of the states against invasion. However, rather than addressing the invasion of illegal aliens on the nations southern border you have chosen to criticize the Governor of Arizona for doing you job. Furthermore you have wasted your time on health care reform, passing a bill that ultimately may be found to be unconstitutional, bank reform, energy reform, etc. None of these issues are mentioned in the constitution. Nowhere does the constitution require the federal government to provide health care to the citizens of the various states.

Your distain for American business is obvious. Apparently you are not aware that the very business you so blatantly criticize for their greed are responsible for keeping the world free during World War II. In fact without our industrial might the state you claim to have been born in would be speaking Japanese, all of Europe would be speaking German, and Israel would not exist.

You have usurped the powers proscribed by the constitution by appointing czars over various private industries. The constitution requires that the Senate approve those administrators you appoint. The constitution does not give you the power to regulate the pay of personnel employed by private businesses. However, because you interfered with the free market system and chose to lend money to failing banks and automobile manufacturers you behave like you own those companies. In our economic system the federal government may have the rights of bondholders, and nothing more. You are a lawyer, you should know better.

I realize we the people have employed you for a term of 4 years, unless you commit treason or high crimes. I am simply providing you with a written warning that thus far your performance is unsatisfactory, as I would do with any other employee.

    Sincerely,

    Douglas L. Walter
    Citizen of The United States

  43. 43. Marjorie

I think this statement is exactly right.

  44. 44. tx-outlaw

I readed alot of what sould be done, an what is going to be done ,,but i havn’t heard a thing as to what Gov. Perry is going to do, he says it’s the government job to secure the borders, but he knows Obama isn’t going to do anything, the only thing he said about it was ,It’s not right for Texas,, so my question is, what is right for Texas?? ,

  45. 45. tx-housewife

to tx-outlaw: I agree 100%. What is right for Texas??

Also, why do so many confuse immigration and illegal? Immigration is one thing, illegal is another. Immigration implies one thing, illegal implies another. Why use the phrase illegal immigration? Most people know that immigration is a process used to entire the United States LEGALLY. Illegal is know by most to mean just that: ILLEGAL. It’s breaking the law to cross the border into a country against the law. Regardless of the excuses used for doing so. And why is it racism when it is obvious that few Caucasians come across the Mexican border illegally? Why is it called profiling when it involves one race obviously, over another? Perhaps we need a little profiling to stop ILLEGALS from coming across the border, knowing it is against the law. And how do we know that jobs the ILLEGALS do are not jobs the American people will do? Where is the statistical proof of that?

    • LOL123

tx-housewife the problem isn’t the white (Caucasian)coming over from Mexico (by the way several European Caucasians live in Mexico so the shade will be getting lighter just for the record)but the legal Latino’s who will have to submit to rationalizing and “proving” they are legal in a country they were born in. If the cards were reversed would you approve of this behavior or law? I doubt it very seriously.

    Greetings!
The 2010 United States Senate Race for Arizona comes down to:

    Who do you believe?

With less than 100 days left until the Primary Election:

Do you believe the multi-term Senator who says he has changed?
Do you believe the multi-term former Congressman who says he has changed?

    Or

Do you believe Jim Deakin who says neither the Senator nor the Congressman has changed? They are both lying to us all again.

For 6 and 7 election cycles the Congressman and the Senator have been telling the voters of Arizona how important it is to secure Arizona’s southern border. Even with 6 years of a Republican lead House, Senate and Executive branch, they failed to secure our borders. This year they are telling you they have CHANGED.

The Senior Senator has a new 10-point plan. What has he been waiting for? Why has this plan not been implemented already? Why has it taken 30 years to come up with this 10-point plan? We should not elect him to another 6-year term to get our borders secured.

The Congressman wants to introduce a new Law. The same law he failed to get passed by Congress in 2005. How will he get the law passed through a Democrat controlled House, Senate and Executive branch? How many earmarks will it contain? We should not elect him to a 6-year term hoping enforcement of this new law would be more stringent than the hundreds of existing laws.

If you believe, as does Jim Deakin, that neither of these politicians has changed, then we need your donations, your support, and your vote.

Arizona’s delegation to the U.S. Senate has an opportunity today. Jim Deakin would filibuster the nomination of Elena Kagan, today. Jim Deakin would filibuster and vote against every U.S. Supreme Court Nominee presented by the President until this President and his cabinet enforce the current laws, including finishing the border fence.

Arizona does not need a “Last Line of Defense” or a “Hope I’ve Changed” campaign.

Arizona needs a strong frontline in Washington D.C.

Jim Deakin needs your support, your vote, and your donations in-order to defeat the incumbent politicians who have driven Arizona to this quagmire.

With less than 100 days until the election, time is of the essence, to make your most generous contribution today. http://www.jimdeakin.com

I like to read these sites to get a clue how the opposition will run it’s campaign. Not bad. 1. Border issue (assets;Miguel Estrada,Napolitano former AZ Gov./National Security…good move, racism). This could actually work. Good examples of contradictory image if handled properly. Use of internet and cell phones…it worked before for the other side might actually work for this one Rep.
