Bombshell: Defying DOJ Instructions, Christopher Coates Will Testify Friday on New Black Panther Case
In a dramatic development that could shake the political leadership of the Justice Department, career lawyer Christopher Coates has sent a letter to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights offering to testify Friday on matters related to the controversial New Black Panthers voter-intimidation case. Ten months ago, Coates, the award-winning former chief of the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division, was subpoenaed by the Commission to testify about the case. He was subsequently instructed by DOJ officials to ignore the subpoena. Within the past hour, commissioners were informed that Chairman Gerald Reynolds had spoken with Coates and that the chairman would reconvene the Commission’s ongoing hearing on Friday at 9:30 a.m. to hear Coates’s testimony.
The Civil Rights Commission has sought to obtain Coates’ testimony on Justice’s dismissal of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case in Philadelphia. In a recent request to Justice, the Commission agreed to limit initial questioning of Coates to accusations made by former career lawyer J. Christian Adams about statements and other actions by Julie Fernandes, an Obama administration political appointee, if DOJ produced Coates.

Blacks and whites seem to be close to agreement on the proposition that part-white and part-black = black. If both sides agree, where is the debate? The point you need to remember is that an American is an American, and anything hyphen-American is not American. There have always been ‘splitters’ and ‘lumpers’ in systematics. Reminds me of the old story placed in England many years ago. Well Emma, I’m nowhere near as handsome as John Wayne was, but I have absorbed his spirit, and I hope to spread that spirit to others. My thoughts as well. Immediately upon reading this I thought, so will we hear he suddenly came up dead, had a bad wreck, got sick. Hideous thought, victim of a bombing. Since when is it okay for one group to do one thing that if another did it, there’d be more media blitz than for the Lindsay Lohan crap. I remember clearly the Saturday Night Massacre implemented by Richard Nixon when he encountered an honest, American Attorney General who wouldn’t do his bidding, which was against the law. Within a 24 hour period, the nation had (as I recall) 3 different Attorneys General. It was frightening, because we didn’t know how it would end. It was exhilirating because we knew that finally someone was STANDING in the place where they had the right to assert truth and law. That was a scary passage that weekend. There may be some scary passages ahead for our nation in the next few weeks. But anything is better than hunkering down, hiding in the closet, wondering if the thugs working their way through the house ae going to find us.

The Bush DoJ decided not to pursue CRIMINAL charges because there are very high standards that have to be met. However, they DID decide that there was plenty of evidence to pursue CIVIL charges, which they did do, and they won when the defendants refused to respond. It was the Obama DoJ who then threw out almost all of the civil judgment against the defendants with no rational reason or explanation.
