I have a program for high school students called “Understanding Global Warming.” Out of some 160 high schools that I proposed this program to, only two have responded favorably. I did receive an email from one teacher who wanted to debate me about global warming in front of the students. I responded that this was not what I wanted to do — my point was to show the students the large amount of science that shows man’s carbon emissions have little or no impact on climate change. I had mentioned that with all the attention the alarmists get on the air, in publications, and in textbooks, my program could be looked at as equal time.

He replied that there is already too much talk by “non-scientists” on the air, and that my concerns about equal time were specious and manipulative. An interesting comment, since the global warming savior of the world, Al Gore, has no science training either. In light of all that, I will not be presenting my program to that school.

I also bring my weather programs to retirement facilities. Some of these are high-end, with expensive rents and plush accommodations. This year I presented a program called “Weatherwise: Myths and Mysteries of Weather.” A portion of the show is dedicated to myths of global warming.

After presenting this program to one of my clients, the person responsible for hiring me told me she “could not have me back.” One of the persons in the audience was so upset with my stand on global warming that she confronted the activities director. She was so angry she demanded that I never return, and then stormed out of the office. I have been invited back since then, but there is to be no mention of my opinion on global warming.

I have two other long-term clients at expensive facilities that will not return my phone calls.

The mainstream media has for too long dominated the information being disseminated about global warming. Some people have long-term loyalty to television news programs, newspapers, or magazines. Any opinion that varies from their source is unacceptable. Some people have been so completely indoctrinated with the climate catastrophe story, they can’t stand to hear anything else. For them my story of global warming will be met with closed doors and deaf ears.

The strategy of the socialist academics is working.

The only letter in the editorial section of the Seattle Times on Thursday was from a sleepless Seattle high school girl, citing Paul Krugman’s article earlier this week on the catastrophe that would descent on the world if Copenhagen “failed”. and her anguish at the fate that confronted her.

  2. 2. Spinoneone

Well, yes, of course! All progressive, liberal fascists are in favor of free speech, if and only if it comports to their view. None of this “other side of the coin” crap for them. Nah, that doesn’t support them, the Goreicle, CRU, etc. As we all know, this is now a religion, not science. One needs no facts which might be refutable or otherwise infringe on their freedom of conscience [see, that is where the "science" comes in - conSCIENCE]. Isn’t that actually Spanish for “with science?” Nah, didn’t think so either.

  3. I am continually amazed at the way alarmists (on the subject of climate change) and religion bashers (on the subject of the origin of human development) hide behind the bogus claim that they are adherents to “science,” and those with whom they disagree are “flat-Earthers.”

There is much in their approach to research and analysis that fails to conform to proper scientific methodology. See: Intelligent Dishonesty (by design) http://bereapundit.com/intelligent-dishonesty/

In that sense, it is THEY who refuse to accept the curvature of the Earth. It is also they who engage in speculation (and sometimes in data manipulation), and then prop up bogus conclusions as “accepted theory.” They routinely claim to have conclusively proved things that they absolutely have not.

But their most egregious sin involves their aggressive attempts to suppress opposing viewpoints. They hold fast to their beliefs (many of which have their roots in politics), and they condemn anyone who dares to disagree.

Mr. Horn, you are a brave soul. Keep fighting for the right to be heard. Despite the strong opposition you face in academia and elsewhere, a growing number of us are listening.

  4. 4. Terry Gain

Don’t give up. The Warmthers claim the science is settled but they are afraid of dissenting voices because the climate is not cooperating. A couple of more years of this and the science may catch up to the climate and take into account the history of climate.

  5. 5. Bill Call

A couple of years ago a local debate teacher posted a request for debate partners in a global warming debate. It seems no one at the high school wanted to argue the view that recent warming was not man made.

I took up the challenge. While the students were open to the possibility that we are witnessing a natural change in the climate the teacher was not. He was actively hostile and rude.

Same story with the generations old gradual indoctrination of PC and M/C.
Thank you for your heroic efforts.
But it’s too late. Run. They really ARE coming after you.

  7. 7. ~Paules

None of the regular readers here at PJM are going to be surprised by your story. Leftists are very clever propagandists. They indoctrinate by flattering their audience with what sounds like high-minded ideals (“Save the planet!”) and then seal the package with emotional appeals (“Protect the polar bears!”). Eventually, the “narrative” becomes a part of the true believer’s sense of self-worth. When you question the narrative, the believer feels that his character is under assault. He retreats deeper into the narrative. His opponent is denounced using a list of carefully contrived pejoratives: neocon, Bible-thumper, or corporate shill, to name a few. We see this demonstrated over and over on the various comment threads. If our usual gang of trolls shows up, you’ll soon see what I mean.

    Mr. Horn,

Thank you for all you do – keep it up. You have my support. 1) Do you have a website where I can study your material? 2) Consider laying out the facts with as little opinion as possible – - just make your points clear – let them draw their own conclusions – it will drive the liberals crazy.

    Best regards,

    Jason Gapco

  10. Again, I wholeheartedly agree with Art Horn. And I admire his willingness to publicly confront the powerful forces that are driving “global warming” alarmism.

As he reveals, there is a heavy price to be paid by those willing to do so. (Ben Stein confirms a similar phenomenon with respect to academicians who dare to even introduce the term “intelligent design” into the debate over human development.)

    Excerpted from Flat-Earth Foolishness:

“Even worse, many scientists (abetted by members of the mainstream media), have gone to great lengths to stifle dissent. They viciously demean those who dare to disagree with them, and they bristle at the mere suggestion that competing theories be introduced and tested. There is absolutely nothing scientific about that.”

Thier actions tell a very interesting story. They react as though you were attacking a belief system rather tan presenting interesting data on an important topic on a lot of peoples minds. Personally I would like to hear a talk given by a proponent of AWG that would actually explain how these so called mechanisms work rather than attack those that disagree. It is the aditional positive forcing caused by Carbon Dioxide that is the Real one of Contention. How did they come up with this Hypothesis and has actuall measurements confirmed any part of the hypothesis? The AWG crowd said the foorprint would be in the Troposphere, but that didn’t work out so well.

No, it is just easier to silence the dissent than to try and prove a Hypothesis that just does not want to co-operate.

Years ago, I remember reading about what other countries were doing to their citizens and children to indoctrinate and enslave them with oppression: And now, it’s going on in my country, and has been for years!
Are the American People going to let this keep going? If so, they deserve everything they get.

The blind following and outrage over anything that isn’t accepted as “politically correct” reminds me in so many ways of life under Stalin. Read “The Whisperers” and see the eerie familiarities.

Gore is like a college undergraduate with his scams for obtaining grants; And he has educated the wacko scientists to do the same. This is the largest fraud ever committed by anyone that has not been challenged and brought to a criminal prosecution for its felonious activity. And it qualifies as a racket under the RICO Statute.
Gore and all his gang of parasites, should be prosecuted and sent to prison for this grandiose scam.
After all, it’s really no different than Bernie Madoff.

Your experiences at the schools and the retirement home reinforce the shocking extent to which the dogma of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming has entered the mass consciousness.

Their attempts to silence alternate views & information are nothing less than apalling.

Fear agendists are entrenching Truth By Authority. Al Gore has said the East Anglia emails are 10 years old (never mind that there were exchanges from November 2009) and spokespersons all over the globe are claiming the exposé changes nothing.

So many individuals seem to have so much invested, personally & financially, in the theory being true.

Some of these agendists’ other attempts at scaring the bejesus out of the population (thus encouraging the people to abandon autonomy and yield them absolute political power) are not faring as well. They’re very disappointed that H1N1 isn’t shaping up to be the catastrophe they’d hoped for.

Individuals promulgating the notion of human caused catastrophic global warming, to the exclusion of, even manipulation of, opposing data, are engaging in scientific fascism. The well brainwashed at schools and elsewhere are their stable of Useful Idiots.

The integrity of science has taken a big hit.

Hey, this article isn’t bout Sarah Palin! What gives? Are you sure you got the memo?

  20. 20. DanW

Global warming has become part of the enviro-religion. Facts don’t matter. Religion is belief based on faith. Science is belief based on facts. Religions like the enviro-religion invent the facts to meet their beliefs.

Climate ‘scientists’ have gone out of their way to distort the facts, hide the facts, and destroy the evidence. Its a religion.

As a scientist myself I have been disgusted with the quality of climate science in the last twenty years.

  21. 21. Daybrother

Thank you for your work. The subtext to your story is very familiar to me. I’m a Doc working in an ER. Every shift a couple of patients come in who are “experts” in medicine. They know, because they’ve been told, that the antibiotics we’re prescribing aren’t “natural” and so will be ineffective or are only being pushed on them by “Big Pharma”. They diagnose themselves via Google and KNOW….just KNOW what we doctors are really up to. Today in America Science no longer has to be earned; the mind is simply “freed” to understand in a “new” way once you see reality as simly a political construct. I am reminded of Pol Pot murdering all the educated in his Country. I am reminded of the Simpsons episode wherein a flaming meteor threatened to destroy Springfield: The citizens’ response? March on the observatory and burn it down so, as Moe put it, “Nothing like this ever happens again.”

    19. Now and Then:I understand why, as a 400 lb woman, you don’t like Sarah Palin. It’s called envy.

  23. Hey, this article isn’t bout Sarah Palin! What gives? Are you sure you got the memo?

If you read her book, you would know that Gov. Palin started Alaska on the path to 50% renewable energy sources by 2020. She’s one of you, Now and Then.

Mr Horn, the tide is turning.

What never ceases to amaze me is how “Selective” the left becomes when someone is offended. Oh, yes, they say they don’t want to offend people, but the evidence is quite the contrary.

So Art offended one student (or the parents of one student) and that qualifies as a total blackball offence.

But, let us say the Vagina Monologues were to be presented at the school, along with a college professor telling students at age 14 they don’t’ have to conform to age norms when selecting sex partners for a school presentation. And lets say more than 100 parents and students showed up at the principal’s office to protest and let the school staff know that they are truly offended.

Well, the staff will “BRAVELY” defend the presentation and will even keep it a secret the next year to avoid having to be brave in public a second time. (see Colorado Springs, Colorado for the complete story)

It’s who is offended that counts, because in the some people are more equal than others.

    jd

You wingnuts make me laugh when you whine about being blackballed for your beliefs. Tough. If you have unpopular beliefs–beliefs that make people think that you want human life to be destroyed, for example–no one’s going to want you around. Toughen up, stop crying about the fact that people don’t like you. If you can’t convince people your way is right, then you’ve failed. Live with it. You sound like Roger Simon, whining about how he got blacklisted from Hollywood, as if that couldn’t have any relation to the fact that he’s a talentless hack.

  27. Sad story,
and an excellent example of why totalitarianism is called…totalitarianism.

  28. 28. Gringo

26 Mother Moon:If you have unpopular beliefs–beliefs that make people think that you want human life to be destroyed, for example–no one’s going to want you around.
Perhaps you should ask yourself why “people think that you want human life to be destroyed.”

  29. 29. 49erDweet

Great post. Thanks for hanging in there. It is a “religion”, isn’t it? And @26 I finally discovered why they are call “moonbats”. Fascinating.

  30. 30. blotto

MM@26: It is easy for you to write like you did. You think you are on the inside-or winning team. You believe that if you believe what you are told to believe, you will be seen as the good citizen and therefore be allowed to participate in Owells’ future society.

The author has more courage and character than you will ever understand.

To bad because when the useful idiots like you are done being useful to the powerful, you too will be banished. Unfortunately, we will know who you are and will not be there to defend you in the end.

So laugh and enjoy now like DS, moho and the others. But remember it is far better to die standing than live on one’s knees. Tomei

  31. 31. Bear

A lie repeated often enough….It’s really going to come down to being extremely annoying to the believers…qui tam lawsuits, freedom of information act requests. We have to unsell this installed base of AGW bigots. The frontal attacks will distract them, and hopefully empower some real scientists to speak out a little louder.

Cap and Trade is just round two of the financial crisis of 2008 waiting to happen.

  32. 32. Mother Moon

You think you are on the inside-or winning team.

Oh, really, what team is that, you idiot? I’m sick of whining, that’s what I said. I did not say I either agree, or disagree with the idea of global warming. I did not say that I am a Democrat or Republican. I am sick of people whining about their failures. Your failure is another person’s success. And rest assured that person is succeeding because they’re not whining.

  33. If you have unpopular beliefs–beliefs that make people think that you want human life to be destroyed, for example–no one’s going to want you around.

I have to go off topic, but that sentence is not true.
This administration is entirely made of murderers of babies, and yet they got elected.
    hitler got elected too.

What decides if you live in an ochlocracy OR in a republic is
    IF
    people are enlightened or not.

Not enlightened people behave accordingly to Goebbel’s law (see #31 Bear: A lie repeated enough…).

    PS Ochlocracy a.k.a. “mob rule”.

  34. 34. Dwight

It definitely bothers me when reasonable dissenting viewpoints are not permitted to be aired. But in all cases, one must know one’s audience.

Aklso, we don’t know whether Art Horn simply expressed some of the weak spots in the AGW or called Gore and all AGWers the biggest frauds in history etc. There is no question that volatile parents are liable to erupt at any “truths” of left or right, which they perceive to be inflicted on their kiddies. Yes, the left generally does hold sway in the classrooms of America, but the righties are plenty capable of stirring the pot the other way, especially when it comes to protesting some liberal agenda. Righties, in general, do not want to go into education for many reasons and the whole system reproduces itself generation after generation.

Is there something just too communal about a public school classroom so that young conservatives would never go there, or is the pay too low, or…?

  35. 35. aclay1

Nice to have this documented – it shows the faith-based nature of global warming hysteria. I had a scientist friend tell me after debating AGW with an innumerate lawyer tell me not to get to bound up in the facts. I still tease him about that.

  36. 36. J Milam

“His opponent is denounced using a list of carefully contrived pejoratives: neocon, Bible-thumper, or corporate shill, to name a few. We see this demonstrated over and over on the various comment threads. If our usual gang of trolls shows up, you’ll soon see what I mean.”

“If you have unpopular beliefs–beliefs that make people think that you want human life to be destroyed, for example–no one’s going to want you around.”

That’s right dammit! Because certainly by believing that there may be another cause means you want “human life to be destroyed”. Right? Because if one does not wish to have their life ordered for them or to live by another’s rigid standards it means they want “human life to be destroyed”. Right?

Because certainly, and most of all, if they have anything to say about the lack of curiosity or openmindedness of others they should be ridiculed as “whiners” and shouted down with hyperbole.

    Right?

    Just want to make sure.

  37. 37. baal

    32. Mother Moon:
If you’re sick of whining why do you come here to whine?

  38. 38. Dennis

    Mother Moon,

Typical of your type, you attack the person instead of the facts. Where are your facts? Why do you cling to beliefs when data does not support it? Insults do not count.

AGW has become your religion. Prove there IS MAN MADE climate change.

  39. 39. Guy Maupin

“Because certainly, and most of all, if they have anything to say about the lack of curiosity or openmindedness of others they should be ridiculed as “whiners” and shouted down with hyperbole.”

LOL, numnards. Yeah, a real over-enthusiastic intellectual curiosity characterized the right wing from 2002-2008. You chumps fell for everything the administration threw at you. You swallowed the lies as fast as your little throats could widen. The only thing you wouldn’t accept was the idea of actually dealing with the problems that your intellectually curious support of an unfettered free market–rampant illegal immigration and the collapse of the banking sector–created. Yeah, wow, you really are one noble Bi^**a$$ dumbf$%k.

Wow — any other hackneyed, angry Lefty cliches you’d like to toss around? I could use some more laughs.

Besides, if you truly believe there is an “unfettered free market” economy at work ANYWHERE in the US, you’re delude past the point of any rational discourse.

  42. 42. Cybergeezer

The Obama “suicide snipers” on this site are committing jihad for their president and the Democrat party. And, they like it here since you do not have to sign up for an account and get found out who you really are.
Like children throwing rocks at empty houses.

  43. 43. Bonzo

    @32 Mother Moon

The point of the article is not “whining,” as you infer. It is to point out the utter contempt and irrational intolerance exhibited by those who consider certain views not just incompatible with their own but so downright evil that they must be suppressed. This coming from the ideologues for whom the notion of “tolerance” is purportedly one of their mainstays. THAT’S the point. Perhaps you find that an acceptable condition — I certainly don’t. If that makes me a whiner in your book, so be it — the degree to which your regard for me matters is too small to be measured.

  44. 44. Fred Beloit

Say, AnotherFord, what’s the big idea! Presenting evidence for doubt to we warmer fanatics won’t get you anywhere. Educated, sober, and informed is no way to go through life, son.

  45. 45. 49erDweet

    34. Dwight: asks

“Is there something just too communal about a public school classroom so that young conservatives would never go there, or is the pay too low, or…?”

May hap the two biggest hindrances to conservatives opting for classroom careers are: the reluctance of school administrators to actually hire a known conservative, and reticence to pay dues or fees to a union PAC espousing diametrically opposite political views than one’s own.

  46. 46. Fred Beloit

#39 Guy moping say: “The only thing you wouldn’t accept was the idea of actually dealing with the problems that your intellectually curious support of an unfettered free market–rampant illegal immigration and the collapse of the banking sector–created.”

Not at all, guy moping. The major cause of the collapse of the banking sector was the pressure put on banks, by such lovers of the downtrodden and oppressed as Barny Frank (he especially liked the downtrodden, rough trade you know, wink wink) and Chris Dodd. They and their supporters put pressure on banks to give mortgages to people who were unlikely to repay them. As for rampant illegal immigration, that is a librul cause. Businesses prefer legal immigration; ask them.

  47. 47. Guy Maupin

Bonzo. Permit me to call you a liar. For eight years, those who opposed the war and other elements of the Bush administration were marginalized. I’m sure you cried warm little tears over it. You don’t give a sh^^ about tolerance or any of those other things. Full of crap.

  48. 48. Graham

    32:

“Your failure is another person’s success.” — Only in the zero-sum world of a moonbat is that statement true. I would venture to say that most here gauge their success on their own merits, rather than looking to the failures of others. In any event, Mother Moon, you are obviously dishonest; claiming no partisan affiliation. Nevertheless, unpopular and even anonymous speech is welcome. Perhaps you should read-a-bit about what the first amendment means. Start with this:

“Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical, minority views . . . Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. . . . It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation . . . at the hand of an intolerant society.”

  49. 49. Bonzo

    @47 Guy Maupin

“Permit me to call you a liar.” — Feel free to call me anything you like. Your characterization has no bearing on any objectivity presented by anyone, and as such means absolutely nothing to me.

“For eight years, those who opposed the war and other elements of the Bush administration were marginalized.” — This is as laughable an assertion as the one you stated above regarding “unfettered free markets.” It is further evidence that your rationality is not only suspect, it is completely lacking.

“You don’t give a sh^^ about tolerance or any of those other things.” — I’m glad you feel eminently qualified to provide a detailed assessment of the complexity of my personal philosophical beliefs as ascertained by a mere blog post. (Yes, that’s sarcasm.) Another suitable example of your revealed tendency toward emotion-driven histrionics.

“Full of crap.” — I’ll assume this to be a sentiment you wished directed at me, and as such I’ll simply reiterate that your estimation of me I consider completely unworthy of any consideration whatsoever. However, since it is a sentence fragment of unspecified subject, I’ll feel free to apply it to everything you’ve posted so far.

How about climate research in the home by a kid and his dad:

Awesome Analysis of Urban Biases on Surface Temperature Records

  51. 51. Deadman

This week, in my elder son’s grade 6 class, a lawyer (!) came and give a sermon on how alarming AGW is; it included, of course, all the usual scaremongering accompanied by hockey stick graphs and pictures of sad polar bears in open sea and lonely icebergs and the like. My son asked whether or not polar bears could in fact swim and were they not flourishing these days, and wasn’t antarctic ice increasing, and didn’t polar bears survive global cooling and warming in the past, and suchlike questions. His questions were, of course, either ignored or quickly dismissed as irrelevant.

  52. 52. blotto

Maupin@47: You are kidding, right? You expect us to believe that the Bush administration marginalized their opponents of the war? There is not one honest word in your comment. For s&%$s and grins, give us one reference where Pres. Bush marginalized his opponents–for anything!!! I would have jumped for joy if he ever did stick up for himself, his administration, or his causes. And I am the last person to ever defend him.

You folks who have swallowed the progressive kool-are really useless for us to debate. And you are an obviously deranged or deluded (or both) individual.

As for moonbat@32: you don’t even have the conviction of your own lies to stick with them when confronted. Dude you are the very tool the left needs.

  53. 53. stuart williiamson

If you really into being scared about your future, consider living under a government of “leaders” who think like Mother Moon and M. Guy Maupin!

Oops. I forgot that we already are.

    26. Mother Moon:

    “You wingnuts make me laugh….”

You’ve been supplying us ample opportunity to laugh at you since you first appeared here, moho. Only fair that you get a laugh from yourself also.

“…when you whine about being blackballed for your beliefs….You sound like Roger Simon, whining about how he got blacklisted from Hollywood…”

My impression is that Roger feels that if that was the price for his beliefs, so be it. You on the other hand have been whining about Roger banning you from commenting in any of his article threads since he had his fill of your imbecilic posts some time ago. The first is a situation where someone took a hit on his life and career for expressing his beliefs – similar to what Art horn relates in this article though of greatly differing degree. The second is a situation where a blog troll loses nothing but the opportunity to froth at the mouth and spout logical absurdities once the host venue has had enough of it.

  55. This is a terrific scientific Climate presentation.

I think I saw the ppt somewhere, try googling some, also you could use something like FastStone Capture to cut and paste it to a ppt.

Let’s get Mother Moon blackballed from this site because she does not agree with us. Her beliefs are unpopular here and she has failed to convince anyone. She is nothing but a clueless hack and her whining about wingnuts makes me laugh.

Dwight @34 asks, “Is there something just too communal about a public school classroom so that young conservatives would never go there, or is the pay too low, or…?”

Remember that in most states, being a public school teacher means having an ed-school degree. It also means having to put up with public school administrators.

Since I felt a strong vocation to be a science teacher in a school-system where I felt “needed”, I began working through a special program as a tutor in the Chicago Public Schools while I was an undergraduate.

What I saw during my time in that program is that the administrators in the neediest public schools hinder the teaching efforts of their most dedicated and intelligent science teachers — and no, it’s not about lack of money for lab equipment or new textbooks: a science teacher can offer wonderful enrichment curricula that cost nothing to the school, and his offer will still be turned down. I got the very strong impression that administrators didn’t actually want passionate math and science teachers to teach!

Also, while I worked for this program, I met a lot of education majors. Now, I’m going to say something quite rude, and it’s surely not true of all ed-school students, but it was sure true of many I met: wow, what airheads! Sure, they were enthusiastic, but overall, they didn’t understand any subject — not even the one they specialized in — intimately enough to teach it well, and they were a profoundly unimaginative bunch. (I was in a math class composed of mainly math and math-ed majors, and though this might be cruel, by the end of the semester, the math majors were making fun of the math-ed majors behind their backs — I’m sorry to say with good reason, too: we want *these* people teaching math to our kids?)

What ed-school students *were* good at, though, was spouting “social justice” rhetoric. As someone who thinks that teaching inner-city kids the skills they need for college and later life (the ability to read a book, the basics necessary to avoid flunking college math, and so on) does more for social justice than just talking about social justice, I was unimpressed. From what I’ve learned about M.Ed. programs, a lot of them are heavy on social justice theories, but light on, for example, the practical skills you need to manage a classroom. Getting an M.Ed. now strikes me as a profound waste of my time and money, but you need an M.Ed. to teach in a public school in my state.

For me, it’s never been about the money. I don’t aspire to an extravagant lifestyle, and it’s definitely *not* the salary that has de-motivated me from public school teaching. Now I’m looking at a career as a charter or private school teacher, or at university-level teaching, and if you believe it, the average salary for these jobs is *less* than what a typical public school teacher gets. You get less money at these places, but you get more freedom to teach.

Freedom to teach. That’s what’s missing in many public schools. On the other hand, there’s no lack of soul-crushing bureaucracy.

I love teaching. I’ve even been singled out for being good at it. I totally and utterly admire the talented and passionate teachers who do manage to survive in the neediest public schools, but I don’t think I have the stones to put up with everything that they have to put up with day after day. At the end of the day, what I want to do is teach, not bang my head against a brick wall of inane restrictions.

@52 blotto: “You expect us to believe that the Bush administration marginalized their opponents of the war?”

Silly, you have to learn how to decipher irrational Leftoid-speak in order for it to be understood as they mean it. In this case, when Guy Whatever invokes the word “marginalize,” what he means by it is, “Didn’t acquiesce to the oppositions’ demands.”

The worm is slowly turning. Keep up ther good work Mr Horn. Once the american public realizes just how much this FRAUD from ALWHOREGORE and his watermelon crowd is reflected in there utility bills and in the reckless high unemployement the frauds will get there just reward. Ive said this before and it still apllies-since ALWHOREGORE is an islamic apologist, I say try him under SHARIA LAW. ALONG WITH his fellow syncophats like Strong,Soros, Jones,Hansen ,and Mann. My read is that SHARIA LAW doesnt treat fraudsters kindly. And niether should we. That might be the only positive thing I can relate to Sharia Law.

  60. 60. Knotacommie

Mr Horn also points out one other thing here, said many times over. Media,Academia and Law have LONG been leftist outlets. There are NUMEROUS media figures who are treasonous and deserve the gulag for the propaganda and crimes theyve taken part in. Not to mention figures like Dick Wolf(Law and Order producer, leftist propaganda artist) most Hollyweird actors/actresses. Im glad to see outlets like Pajamas media and Breitbart, along with talk radio the only true journalism outlets anywhere today. My fervert hope is we will crush our enemies(the ones within the country) and return America to a greatness only freedom can achieve.

    Mother Moonbat,

    I am quite confused.

You siad, ” If you can’t convince people your way is right, then you’ve failed. Live with it.”

But you say that after saying, “If you have unpopular beliefs–beliefs that make people think that you want human life to be destroyed, for example–no one’s going to want you around. Toughen up, stop crying about the fact that people don’t like you.”

    So explain to me, please…

If one is not permitted to express one’s point of view, how is one to convince people that one’s point of view is correct?

    LOGIC FAIL!

@ 45 49erDweet wrote, “May hap the two biggest hindrances to conservatives opting for classroom careers are: the reluctance of school administrators to actually hire a known conservative, and reticence to pay dues or fees to a union PAC espousing diametrically opposite political views than one’s own.”

That’s also true. I can live with concealing my politics in order to teach (I already have practice at that from tutoring). I could even (I think) live with the union dues as the price for teaching. But doing both, when you know you’re still not going to be given the freedom to teach? NBL.

Here’s a horror story of one guy who gave up a job at Al Gore’s polling firm (so we’d surmise conservatism wasn’t a problem for him) in order to teach at an inner-city school in DC. He didn’t get the opportunity to teach much, but he did get sued for $20 mil:

    http://www.city-journal.org/html/13_1_how_i_joined.html

It’s not just conservatives who get driven away from public school teaching. I’ve known several bright but left-leaning types who’ve realized that they just can’t stomach what teaching in the schools that need them the most actually entails.

  64. Environmentalism is a kind of post-Christian religion that makes use of several Christian theological concepts. There is an Eden, more Rousseauist that Christian perhaps, a doctrine of the Fall caused by man’s sins of pride and gluttony, and some possibility of redemption through good works, works that aim to restore man and nature to a pre-Fall, Edenic state.

It is I think no accident that this doctrine was created in and is believed in most strongly in the West and among those of the elite who longer believe in traditional Christian doctrine. The new religion has developed for about half a century now, beginning with the proclamation of a second Ice Age, followed by the overpopulation scare, the assurance that global famine and depletion of natural resources were right around the corner, and now AGW. It seems though that the earlier scares didn’t have quite the hold on elite emotions that we see today with AGW, which means that there is an increasing need to believe in these apocalyptic scenarios.

From reading the comments over the past few weeks it seems that there are two fundamental questions – 1. Is Western science changing into something dominated by religion, as it was in the Middle Ages and 2. if AGW is overthrown, will it simply be replaced by something else?

IMO no one will top Kazooskibum #11′s comment.

Remember: The issue is never the issue. The issue is control.

That’s the real meaning of not letting a crisis go to waste.

In that vein, I suspect that the parents who were indignant about Art Horn’s presentation would also be indignantly opposed to school vouchers–and even more indignant if they were pressed about the apparent contradiction.

Dwight #34. “Is there something just too communal about a public school classroom that a young conservative would never want to go there?”
I am a geologist, now old, with an advanced degree. Early in my career I had the opportunity to interview for college level teaching positions. The interviewers all had a way of finding out if I was as liberal as they were. They were afraid I might try to justify mining and downplay the importance of environmental issues. I had what I consider a neutral or even-handed approach to balancing those interests, while emphasizing the importance of a strong background in the core of the science. That wasn’t what they were looking for. They weren’t looking for my kind, and I soon realized that I wasn’t comfortable with their kind. I went into exploration.

Just goes to show that the Climate Change Deniers aren’t the only ones who doubt the “science” behind Global Warming. Looks to me that the Climate Change Embracers don’t believe their “science” can stand up to criticism.

Ideas are dangerous things forever slipping their leashes.

Mr. Horn would be well advised to go virtual. Just as he’s found an audience here. A site designed for the purpose of engaging and informing youth will find an audience larger than any public school. He already has the program. It’s only a matter of adapting it to this medium.

Thousands of flowers are already abloom’n. Why not add another?

    We need to dig deeper
    ———————–

To hoist my flag, my position is simple, whether anthropogenic global warming is a driver or C02 a causal factor, the models, arguments and proposals are riddled with fraud, data massaging and abuse. Real science requires open debate and the onus is on the side of the proposer to expose methods and models to open inquiry. In the absence of this we reject the Theory or proposal. In the case of Global Warming Michael Mann and CRU conspired to withhold data as has NASA with its data and this for years- nothing more needs be said.

My point is this. Do we believe that all of this is purely an agenda exploited by IPCC and Global Interest groups to secure billions in funding for their agenda and also further their interest in One World Government? I don’t believe so. There is a spiritual dimension to this. We have come to believe that our ideas and theories are artifacts of the human mind but are they? To discover the ancestry and ownership of an idea we need to go beyond the tree’s touted credentials and test the fruit for “by their fruit you will know them”.

In the matter of the Global Warming Cabal- we note lies, deception and deceit- this is their fruit. This typifies the spirit that guides and shapes this movement. We note the same characteristics revealed in the Health Care debate- the difference is that in the latter is that the proponent of Public Health Care is forced to engage in debate- but always, begrudgingly always cloaking real intent. Mostly, the public is treated to simplistic cooked graphs or in the case of Health Care summaries emphasizing touted benefits, mostly questionable and concealing the injury.

Friends, our civilization is at the Crossroads of a web of evil which spans all institutions of modern society, judiciary, congress / parliament, education…. and the list goes on.

In signing off, I ask, “How does a Global Warming believer respond to opposing views?” Their response is invariably ito alienate, belittle and ridicule and yes- this with great venom. There is a spirit at work here!
    into it.

There were some questions about the tone of my presentations to the students. The section of the program dealing with global warming was in no way any different in tone from the overall weather program. I simply presented the trends in temperature from the last 450,000 years to the present. Most of what I showed them was the powerful connection between the ups and downs of temperature over the last 150 years and the changes in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). I showed them that the PDO has gone cool again and so has the global temperature trend since 2002. I also stressed the relationships between the power of the solar wind and temperature changes. I then showed them how weak the solar wind is now in this long solar minimum. I never mention Al Gore. I simply informed the students that polar bears are doing fine. I did not have much time to spend on global warming since I usually get an hour with the kids and I like to answer as many questions as possible. I applaud those school administrators with the courage and foresight to give the students another view of global warming other than the alarmist community and carbon entrepreneurs or as I call them “the prophets seeking profits”.

  75. 75. Dwight

OK, Art, I appreciate the response. The truth, fairly presented, should be an excellent defense and school administrators should have the balls to defend it against the passionate folks on BOTH sides. There is no question that modern American education tilts predominantly left, but the righties have abandoned the field.

As for the previous post, delving into the underlying morality of the AGWers, you’d have a stronger case on that, if we didn’t have some of the same people who told us that there was no evidence that tobacco caused cancer, telling us that there is no evidence of anthropogenic global warming. That fact neither proves nor disproves the case here, but I think that it’s safe to say that there are scumbags on both sides. Of course, we are always a little more accepting of our own scumbags. So it goes.

Well, it seems Mr. Ehrlich ( another of Obama’s Eugenicist Science Czars who works with John Holdren ) will have his way with humanity if the Copenhagen Treaty will have success. There is your global system, with a globally enforceable mandate- at first to impose carbon taxes upon humanity- later on to do what the eugenicists have always called and planned for: the orderly extermination of at least 80 percent of the global population.

As a retired CT teacher, I applaud Art for his attempt to set the record straight. I am astonished that school districts refuse to have him present his program. How sad. It would be wonderful if the Courant or the Journal Inquirer would publish a story about this, but, they are so left wing it is crazy. Where is educational curiosity? I wrote to a teacher who had an article in the NEA Journal about GW. I criticized him for his take that it really existed. He never responded. This is criminal. Bless, you, Art. I usually mention Dr. Mel Goldstein as well as another expert who questions GW. I ran into a weather man from Channel 22 in MA and asked him his opinion about GW. He would not say it was a hoax even though I told him I thought it was. He then said it might be partially man’s fault plus natural happenings. I wonder if he is not allowed to talk about it? Go, Art!!! Yeah, yeah, yeah!

  78. 78. Dwight

Linda, if it makes you feel better, as it does so many righties, to call it a “hoax.” then knock yourself out, but if you want to communicate without unnecessary alienation (even though many people here can’t even conceive of the concept), then say, “I think there are some serious doubts about the overall contribution of humans to planet warming. But “hoax” or even “plot” are such great PJM words, and yeah, caricatures and cartoons always get more attention, but alas, it is also why this place is a bit shaky, when it comes to serious discussion.

But, it’s the internet, so what should I expect?

  79. 79. Sam

Dwight: Maybe you shouldn’t call your AGW beliefs “science” but instead let people know that they are what you want to believe even though there isn’t one shred of science to back it up. Then when people challenge you on your religious beliefs you can call them all kinds of names just so they know you really are on top of your science?

I have seen Art’s presentation twice up here in La La CT. His work is excellent. He continually updates his presentation as well.

I was amazed that in neither presentation (both given in environments sure to be predominantly Warmers) no one even challenged any part of his program. He presents his information in a very calm and objective view and it is really hard to take exception to anything he says.

That said, the people up here are very much into this as a religion and don’t appreciate anyone challenging their nature god.

I’ve had people try to discredit letters to the editor I’ve sent in regarding the financial collapse or government’s constitutional authority to implement “health care reform”, strictly on the basis that “he doesn’t believe in global warming” or “he’s a denier.” And they actually think that helps to carry their argument.

These true believers are very scary people and we need to defeat them once and for all before they get us all killed.

  80. 80. Linda Mae, CT

    Dwight:

A rose is a rose is a rose.

A hoax is a hoax is a hoax.

Deal with the truth. When “scientists” need to manipulate data to make their case, or ruin the reputations of those who point out errors, then you can’t convince me that they don’t realize what they are doing. It is a hoax. Would you prefer the word lie? Only those who watch msm believe the dreck they are fed about climate change.

32,000 qualified scientists have signed the petition stating that the science is junk. They don’t use the word hoax, but that is what they mean.

You use Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals well. Rule #4: ridicule the speaker in order to neutralize the message. You can’t neutralize this message. It is a hoax. Accept it. You don’t have to like being lied to by Gore et al but it is a hoax.
