Are Jews Funding Israel’s Foes?

On campus, community money flows to Islamist propagandists.

Since its birth, Israel has repeatedly defended itself against conventional military threats, terrorism, and hateful propaganda. The Jewish community would be aghast if it learned that its local Jewish Federation was subsidizing Syria’s army or Hezbollah. It should be aghast when it learns that its Jewish Federation has been funding a program that gives credibility to the trained operatives of the International Solidarity Movement — an organization whose goal is to eradicate Israel via the “soft” means of boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS).

Yet, California’s Orange County Jewish Federation & Family Services (JFFS) has been supporting such a program — the Olive Tree Initiative (OTI) — since 2008, and public statements by its leadership indicate that it intends to continue.

Whether UC Irvine should run the OTI is an issue for another forum. The issue for us is whether OTI deserves endorsement and funding in any amount by JFFS.

The overwhelming evidence must lead to the conclusion that continued Jewish community support is wrong. Here are just a few reasons:

  • The OTI brings Jewish and non-Jewish students and faculty to “dialogue” with trained high-level ISM propagandists, whose mission is to undermine Israel via subterfuge, economic BDS, and “peaceful resistance and nonviolent direct action.” They, together with their UN allies and worldwide networks of NGOs, accuse Israel of human rights violations so as to justify its elimination as a Jewish democratic state. What they cannot accomplish militarily, they try to do by other means. Why give them credibility?
  • The OTI and its funders risk the physical safety and security of the students. Events such as a secret 2009 OTI meeting with Aziz Duwaik, a leading Hamas official, might one day lead to disaster. Should the ISM, which has a record of cynically sacrificing the lives of naive youthful supporters (like Rachel Corrie and Vittorio Arrigoni), be trusted? Moreover, JFFS itself faces liability if things go wrong. Has JFFS purchased the requisite insurance, and is this the best use of its funds?
  • The OTI is a university program, run by academics and not by the Jewish community. OTI does not seek to foster Jewish identity or pride, but rather to instill doubt and give equal validity to the “narratives” of all parties. Why expose students to in-person Palestinian indoctrinators? Why not give OTI-designated dollars to proven programs like Birthright?
  • The OTI has disrespected major Jewish holidays, forcing Jewish participants to choose between observing Rosh Ha’Shana and Yom Kippur and participating in planned activities. Why didn’t JFFS protest the scheduling of the trip during High Holidays, imaging the difficulties faced by Jewish students having to forgo 3 days out of a short 12-day trip? Did this scheduling discourage observant Jewish students from attending in the first place?
  • The Federation claims that the OTI fosters better relations among Jewish and Muslim students at UC Irvine, and that it educates the UCI community about the complex problems of the region. If so, why was Ambassador Michael Oren so viciously disrupted last February? Why does a UCI spokeswoman shrug off the secret meeting with U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hamas as just another opportunity for dialogue which the university supports?
  • JFFS has lied and misled the community about its involvement in this program. Sometimes it boasts that it was the largest single funder; other times it downplays any involvement. It has misinformed its public about facts such as the connection between OTI guide George Rishmawi and the ISM, while instead attacking the reputation of community members who challenge the merits of Federation involvement. If OTI makes JFFS so uncomfortable that it is forced to mislead and conceal, then why continue support? Are there any other secrets that JFFS is concealing?

Recently a huge amount of print has been given to the amount of Arab money flowing into universities and colleges, and the resulting academic polemic and curricular responses. Finally! Thank you!

I have family in Israel, I have lived and studied in Israel, and I love and support Israel, probably much more than your average bear. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out why so much time and effort is being spent in American institutions of higher learning to destabilize Israel (and I agree this is what is being done). The cost/benefit analysis just does not add up, either politically or financially.

Even hate has its financial limits. If there is a greater agenda, somebody please let me know what it is.

Please read the information in the below link. This information shows that long range plans of the Muslim Brotherhood to advance Islam in the U.S. by stealth. It answers your questions of how and why do academia promote Islam and promotes Islam in many other areas..

Read these information and be aware of the danger from the Muslim Brotherhood here in America.

There’s the dream, the drive, and then there’s the ability to actually act. I am sure some people might want this, but I am hoping there is no aggregate will here.

Scary, and almost impossible to believe such crazy fanaticism could attract enough people to take down a country of 300 million. But thank you for the link. I will do more research and check it out.

    • You’re looking at a combination of anti-Semitism and petrodollars.

Vlogger John Hawkins explains it pretty well.

It is time for the Jewish community to clean its’ own house before the looming war in the Middle East asks thousand of young Americans to die fighting to help protect Isreal. The majority of Americans are willing to fight to defend Israel but not if those that are funding and organizing the destruction of Israel and the destabilization of the entire Middle East are also part of the recognized Jewish American community. Communism is not a religion it is a mental disorder and it is about time the Jewish community world wide purged its members.

    • Hardnox

I could not agree more. I have often wondered why there are Jew-haters among the Jewish community.

      • nickel

Frankly I would not have believed it myself. Unfortunately the evidence is widespread and seems to be commonplace throughout much of our elite culture.

      • Not all American Jews are “Jew-haters.” Recall that the period of Jewish immigration to the U.S. lasted a short time, starting in the last few decades and stopped by the 1924 Immigration Act. Many were poor and lived in tenements and worked in sweatshops. Their descendants, thanks to the Jewish tradition of respect for education, experienced astonishing upward mobility, but that mobility was limited by a WASP elite, so that Jews were successful in the professions and in the new culture industry (radio, film, television) that WASPS spurned. In order to succeed many assimilated to the populist-progressive movement and its attendant statism, while others (especially during the Depression) became activists on the Left. The situation is now changing as the Islamic threat is obviously making headway. I hope that the comments above are not repeating common antisemitic tropes, such as the belief that Jews are a people apart. There is no “world wide” Jewish community or “Jewish Americans” with the power to purge its members. Jews are scattered, and often at odds with each other. Here is one of many blogs that takes up these matters: http://clarespark.com/2011/05/20/the-mentalist-melville-blake-and-israel/.

        • It’s time to stop contributing money or any other resources to colleges and universities that don’t support Israel.

If that means postponing going to college for a few years, while waiting for college administrators to come to their senses, then so be it.

In any event, college tuition is the next speculative bubble that is due to burst.

9/11 proved all Jews have each other’s phone numbers and racism proves all white people have each other’s phone numbers as well.

There are no “fun” occupations in life only those that those with phone numbers disdain. In this sense, the TV industry in the 50s was a sweat shop of long hours making stupid shows like others make shoes.

And then there are plays: that’s like cracking rocks.

Because those jews that hate Israel, are communist first and jews second, communist is they real religion.

remember that old Hebrew National commerical- “We have to answer to a higher authority”?

well JEWS keep trying to apply what they have been taught – be fair, be forgiving, try to be compassionate to enemies, compromise, try diplomacy and peaceful solutions.

Sadly the Muslims have not been taught this, but it’s exact opposite- destroy JEWS at any cost, even if it cost your own life or your child’s life.

But these JEWs still hope to find in Muslims the same values they learned (projection) the hope for “peace”, coexistence, adherence to agreements, etc.

see Michael Totten article yesterday, or any leftist Israeli or peacenik, Tzipi Livni- these will bendover backwards, will give away anything to find this elusive peace..

and the more they give, the more the MUSLIMS will take- b/c their idea of peace means a world with no JEWS in it- an all or nothing- and they mean to get all, by any means necessary. No sharing, no forgiving, no co-existence.

People must realize that we speak the same words as Muslims, but we hold absolutely opposite meanings to those words, peace, justice, fairness.
For Muslims, there is no defeat that will sway them from their goals. In their upside-down, through-the-looking-glass world, they still claim victory.

It saddens me deeply to realize that by just being alive, I have an enemy that would gladly kill me and my entire family, friends and destroy the Israeli nation then USA for supporting them. The goal is clear and they do mean to have an ALL ISLAM world – which does put theminthe category of fascist, toatlitarian imperialists-
But it saddens me even more to see JEWS, my friends and family so deluded as to think we can make “peace” with Islamonazis.Or worse so ill-informed or miseducated about who we are forced to deal with.

From what we, hear, see….jews may be the wolf in the sheep’s clothing after all… Here in America they don’t care about their heritage..not the younger ones. They know..know…Obama is against Israel yet they support this man, also Hillary gets their vote

It is shande,meshugass..in the worse way…not haha

  4. 4. A_Nobody

Strange to me is that those who support Obozo are supporting a BIG enemy of Israel.

From Audacity of Hope: “I will stand with the Muslims should the
political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

    His quote, not mine.

    • Dial C For Cocktail Waitress

      Original quote:

“Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Why should I care who does or doesn’t “support Israel”, whatever that even means?

  6. I have been a teacher part-time at UCI for 13 years and have observed first-hand what occurs on our campus. Glazer, who is a friend, is correct. Why should jews or any supporter of Israel support a program that operates under any university program since university culture is hostile to Israel and supportive of the Palestinian side? Why would they not be suspicious of any program that has the support of CAIR and Jimmy Carter?

The Federation has misrepresented its involvement in and support of the OTI. In fact, while they were smearing the community member who revealed the heavy involvement of the ISM in these trips, they were already aware of the meeting in Sept. 2009 with Aziz Dweik, a high-ranking Hamas figure in the West Bank. They wrote a letter to UCI complaining about it but never bothered to reveal it to their own community until a freedom of information request was filed with UCI.

The whole thing stinks. Just wait until one of these kids gets kidnapped over there or worse and watch the lawsuits fly. They have all been warned about the dangers (which are readily available by simply following the news). Yet, they continue to plug blindly ahead.

    Duh, of course they are.

For years it was a mystery to me that liberal democrats and academics could be anti-Israel and still count on 75% of the jewish vote. I now think the REAL mystery is why conservative republicans care at all what happens to jews or Israel.

    • EL ZORRO

Because conservative republicans has more sense than 75% of the jews.

      EL ZORRO

      • David M

I am one of the few conservative Jews who could never Democrat ever again. I knew from the very beginning how Obama was against my people all along. I am part of the Nintendo generation, but i will always support Israel and my fellow Jews. I don’t get it either why the other 75% could vote for Obama and the Dems.

  9. 9. Trainwreck

Not only are Jews funding Israel’s foes, but they are sowing the seeds of their own demise. Jews have a very poor survival instinct. I still remember how Hillary Clinton gave Sewer Arabrat (yasser’s wife) a big smooch after Sewer claimed that Jews poison palestinian wells, yet Jews still voted for that carpetbagger for Senate! I can understand how the Holocaust happened. Never again, my a$$….all I see are elite Jewish capos becoming the court Jews for Obama, left wing organiztions, and the vilest anti-American anti-Israel “social justice” communists. To burnish their progressive credentials, they will gladly sell out their fellow Jews, and push a few million more of them into the ovens.

It took a pogrom by blacks during the administration of NYC’s “first black mayor” to wake Jews up to how this mayor could care less about them. What will it take for Jews to realize that the “first black/Muslim president” deeply loathes them?

    • David M

More then you can even imagine. My father always says to me the Democrats care about the working people and the Republicans only care about screwing the working people. His words, not mine. Heck,he even has a man crush on Obama. My father will always tell me the people hate Obama because he is a N***er. I don’t buy this crap myself. I see right through Obama and I know he is nothing but a closet Muslim. The people don’t like Obama because of his policies. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin. I am so tired of the race card always being used when the lefties have no facts to back them up. They really do think the average people truly is too stupid to think for themselves.

  10. 10. Steve from boston

Thank you for the article. I read so many of these comments and wonder why people think of the Jews as some unitary body. “The Jews fund obama” kinds of comments are simplistic. Some people of Jewish heritage have turned against their cultural and religious legacy and adopted new religions like marxism, or become islamist proxies. Every group of people has its psychopaths and narcissists. Is it really a surprise that you can find them among the Jewish population? Yes it’s true that some of Obama’s biggest supporters are Jews and some of Israel’s most vicious defamers are also Jews by birth. But for every George Soros who funds anti-Israel and radical groups of all stripes, there are numerous other Jews of similar wealth who built great companies like Intel and Sears Roebuck whose names you don’t hear all the time because they donate to less controversial causes like charities and hospitals.

It is true that many Jewish organizations have been taken over and subverted by radicals. That’s what radicals do. Just as they have taken over the humanities departments of most of America’s universities. The real Jewish community has been slow to realize what has happened because most do not eat, breath and sleep politics the way radicals do. They are waking up though.

    • nickel

I valued your comment. You summarized much of my own feelings and described the general confusion the gentile community feels when trying to assess why 75% of Jews would continually support the very people who are most focused on destroying Isreal and America. I too hope for an awakening.

  11. 11. David M

George Soros aka George Schwartz does not represent the entire Jewish population. As a teenager he sold his own people into the death camps of Nazi Germany. He is no Jew even though he is of Jewish heritage. He is an embarrassment to us Jews. Many average Jews have not awaken to the radicals because they are trying to take care of their own lives. I am in school and trying to earn a decent living for myself. I have my own shit to deal with. I go to the synagogue whenever I can. Just like everyone else I want to meet as many hot girls to have a great time with. I want to get married and have my own family as well.

#3 “well JEWS keep trying to apply what they have been taught – be fair, be forgiving, try to be compassionate to enemies, compromise, try diplomacy and peaceful solutions.” Fonding terrorists, Goldstone`s slanderers,Israel`s enemies of all sorts has deep roots in the Jewish communities. The attempt to clear the financial sources of Israeli(and Palestinian)leftist organizations have created the storm of the resistans and failed for today.
It seems to me that “post Zionist” idea of Jewish survival without Israel has the same deep roots. This dangerous idea can be the beginning of the old “pre-Holocaust” existance of the world Jewry.
