Alarms are going off: Millennials are too addicted to their mobile devices, such as iPads. It’s a “Five Alarm Fire,” says Bill Whittle, since children under the age of four are experiencing difficulty lifting and playing with blocks, because their hands are too used to an iPad.

Hear Bill explain why this is an urgent, 911 call for change.

Bill Whittle delivers a masterful mix of intellect and passion in every episode of Afterburner. Now you can enjoy all of his videos — from 2008 to now. Click here to buy the Best of Afterburner video package that’s right for you.

My husband and I have been pondering a basic tablet for our son because my husband has long commute and takes our son with him to daycare. We are working hard to determine the balance between him learning about technology and going too far with it.

We want a balance.

This sounds a lot like the alarmist stories in the papers when I was a pup and us kids were listening to Rock & Roll on dangerous transistor radios and destroying our minds in the process, or how letting children use computers would destroy their brains in my daughter's era.

Somehow, despite ruining my brain listening to Rock I managed to get a degree and have a successful career in computers, and my daughter, despite ruining her brain playing with Mac & Windows desktops since she was 2, somehow managed to become a medical science student at a top university and is working on her degree and doing real science in a major medical research lab.

So, take heart, a few will survive this latest onslaught of modernity ravaging the youth and actually grow up to do more than droll in their laps at the asylum while playing Angry Birds at the Zen Master level.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

In my family I call it chasing pixels, even when you've caught them, what do you have? We will be watching this as a family because you make all the points I've been hammering on. Thank you.
