Overbearing, overreaching, overly expensive and over here.
There’s nothing wrong with the UN that eliminating it wouldn’t solve. They aren’t a country and they deserve no diplomatic recognition as such.
no surprises there.
defund the UN …
The initial strategies and long term history of the UN has proven a critical failure for the United States and many administrations.
Just as organizational and process corruption has destroyed much of Traditional America, the same has become the norm for the UN. Just as in America, the UN has allowed minority special interests to gain strategic power of control and process.
The UN has long lived past its [legitimate] usefulness in advancing reconstruction of those regions involved in WWII. It has long become the central clearinghouse of global social and economic governance initiatives and dictates by those interests anti Americanism and capitalism.
One would be hard pressed to dig up any factual findings that shows the UN strategies has produced for the United States, anything other than advancing more and more eventual enemies in spite of the billions upon billions of dollars in foreign aid and military security globally. The UN and the United States along with the four initial super powers intended to maintain global peace and prosperity has certainly failed…with consistency!
The UN is a very outdated unfashionable suit that needs to be disposed of!
Even if we don’t dissolve the U.N., we should at least withdraw our membership (along with our money and assets), and give them a 30 day eviction notice. Let them relocate to someplace less repressive, like Havanna, Tehran, Rihad, Paris etc etc.
These statistics say it all with crystal-like clarity, no need for a narrative. Will drawing attention to them and disseminating them far and wide lead more and more Americans to realize what a terrifying joke the UN has become? How could it not? Thank you Ms. Bayefsky!
Typical right wing UN bashing
MattD….Is the world at peace? Are the nations of the world prospering? Is there no human starvation and dying? Are there no curable diseases killing humans by the boat loads around the world?
This is just a short list of historical UN global strategies. How have they done in over 60 years? How much money have they burned through in these 60 plus years? Like to see how you defend the UN in terms of ROI and their self proclaimed objectives. How much economic and blood investment for security around the world has America spent and never been reimbursed by the UN and its members? How many more global friends has America gained by its roll in the UN in over 60 years?
I wish this was also typical left-wing UN bashing. Alas.
more fools us for being members (Israel)
Typical anti-American Israel-First manure from Bayefsky. She doesn’t care if she gets everyone in America killed so long as Israel can go on persecuting the Palestinians with impunity.
So, she offers an opinion and backs it up with stats. You dismiss it as ‘Tpyical’ (which must be the first word they teach people at how-to-ignore-rational-debate camp), and offer…nothing.
Yeah. Your opinion matters.
Actually, Anne didnt mention the word “America” in her article. Is there some hint I missed in between her lines somewhere or is it just your twisted and sick mind that makes up additional content to suit your ideas and desires to bash Israel?
In fact I think elimination of the UN would benefit America much more than it would Israel.
Allison in wonderland,
Can you please elaborate rather than use those worn out lefty, pro terrorists slogans of yours?
Can you please enlighten us to why is it OK for Libya, Saudi-Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt to be members of UN Human Rights Council?
How is it that Israel committed 50% of all HR violations in the world?
How is it that the author of the article who is only stating facts and numbers is going to get all Americans killed?
Gee, Allison, and why should you be worried that everyone in America would be killed? You can’t possibly be insinuating that it would be the result of terrorist attacks perpetrated by citizens of member countries of the UN Security Council or Human Rights Council, could you?
By the way, Anne is not anti-American, she is anti-Obama Administration policy, which sucks, and of which you fit in very nicely.
From your naivete, or worse, comes the REAL manure, baby.

Time for the US, and the world in general, to declutter.
Dry Bones sums it up nicely today: http://drybonesblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/human-rights.html
The U.S. can’t and won’t dissolve its financial commitments to the UN just yet.
For where is Obama going to work after his gig on Pennsylvania Avenue? You can’t possible consider the.. private industry? hahahahahaha
Our United Nations, Our World, Our Folly
We should all treasure the United Nations. As its website proclaims, “It’s your world!” According to that website, “The U.N. has 4 main purposes
To keep peace throughout the world;
To develop friendly relations among nations;
To help nations work together to improve the lives of poor people, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect for each other’s rights and freedoms;
To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations to achieve these goals.”
What rational being, what American, what Zambizean or Moldavian or Kazakhstanian could take issue with that lofty dedication to peace, friendliness, respect, and harmony among nations, none of which the U.N. has come even close to realizing?
Forget the origins of the U.N., the sleazey ngotiations that led to its founding, the able assistance in that endeavor of convicted Soviet spy and perjurer, Alger Hiss. Forget its repetitive, abject failures in the 66 years of its existence, the presence of China, Cuba, and Libya on its “Human Rights Council,” its consistently anti-Americanism over the years. The U.N. is “our world.”
The United Nations began with 51 nations after World War II and has now blossomed into a bloated membership of 192 countries, most of which have, if not outright contempt for its chief benefactor, the United States, a studied, diplomatic disregard for our interests.
Despite all the negatives, the U.N. has evolved into the international organization par excellence, the organization that has been impotent in ending the unending wars since WWII, the last best hope for mankind. Oh, it also dispatches kids on Halloween to beg for UNICEF money.
The U.N. Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon of the Republic of South Korea, just announced an exciting new initiative.
For some historical perspective, Mr. Ban succeeded Ghanian Kofi Annan. Annan had followed Egypt’s D.r. Boutros Boutros-Ghali and personally presided over the genocide in Rwanda. He was rewarded for that disservice with the office of Secretary General. Wearing his new hat, he oversaw a U.N. sex harrassment scandal, the Oil-for-Food Scandal, and his son, Kojo Annan raking off millions in that mess.
Kofi was again rewarded, with a Nobel Peace Prize.
Anyway, in recognition of the United Nations’ “World Day of Social Justice,” . . .
