A Feminist Look at Palin’s Military Jargon
Palin is no dummy. Not by a long shot. And she has political instincts that literally defy comparison to anyone in memory. Though none of her “mannish” hobbies and military/hunting jargon is fakery (Palin is the real deal), she has foisted this tough-woman image into every one of her political thrusts with pure aplomb. Is there anyone in any enemy country at the moment who does not dread a possible Palin presidency? I don’t think so.
No, Palin would have presidential photographs that more resembled Putin’s manly public persona. A President Palin would take photographers to the wilds of Alaska, where she would be photographed downing a ferocious grizzly, wearing lipstick and a pony tail, and never breaking a nail.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that foreign leaders continually size up their enemies. It doesn’t take a genius either to know who is getting the better of whom at this particular moment on the world stage. Obama has been sized up as a wimp. He can pull out thuggish-sounding rhetoric about kicking someone’s *ss or going into “hand-to-hand combat” with congressional Republicans all he wants, but everyone past the third grade sees through all that to the guy whose “empathy” outshines his genuine toughness in every arena.
No one would ever need to ask whether Palin was up to the task of getting tough with rogue regimes, terrorists, or treaty negotiations. At the very least, Palin has made it abundantly clear that she would never be photographed in flip-flops with a slurpee or all shriveled up and bony in an oversized Nike get-up or on a pansy bike in a helmet. Impressions count and Palin knows that full well. Nowhere do impressions count more than with enemies who would do us harm in a heartbeat whenever they feel emboldened by demonstrated weakness.
Being a beautiful woman, Palin also must deal with the long-held false belief that physical beauty belies intelligence. She is still working on that one and hasn’t been quite as successful in projecting her intelligence as she has been in touting her toughness. But she is still young and has plenty of time to rev up her brainy side.
As for all the purely shameless left-wing jabs at the Palin piñata in the wake of a horrible tragedy, this outrageous display ought to be enough to convince millions more Americans of the complete moral vacuity of the “progressive” community.
To the Giffords family and to the families of all the Arizona victims, let me personally add my sincerest sympathies. A nation holds all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Perhaps he’s saying that Palin’s smarter than any current male politician of comparable name recognition, with comparable ’12 Presidential ambitions. That statement still might get you a debate, but it’s not a transparently silly statement to make. (In fact, it’s setting the bar mighty damned low.)

Worse yet, the plight of the mentally ill gets ignored generation after generation as our political leaders virtually stumble over each other to protect the rights and provide for the health, education and welfare of those who are in our country illegally. I love Sarah Palin, her toughness, her Conservative values, her family lifestyle. But I fear for her safety and hope that she will NOT run for President. She will be a target for every progressive wing nut out there and sooner or later regardless of how much protection she gets someone with a real animosity for her will get through. Perhaps she would be better off in joining a Conservative Presidents cabinet or a staff member.

I say if Sarah is not afraid, then I am not afraid for her. Read Roger’s piece today. The Democrats started the whole “target” thing themselves. Even Gifford used an interview to spout the good little Democrat’s talking points by bringing up Sarah’s map. Of course she never mentioned the Democrats maps. Anything to silence us and like good little lemmings, we are calling for Sarah to go into hiding. Thank GOD the early Christians had more backbone or there would be no America.
Maybe this is where I throw in my two cents worth about Sara Palin.
In the stereotype the female of the species is the one who will pull out all the stops to protect her cubs. The male is indifferent especially if he is a politician concerned with political correctness.
Palin has proven this by resigning her position as Governor (given her life, as it were) to protect the interests of her citizens against the irresistible force. She, the immovable object, just re-adjusted her position to allow the force to push against nothing. In doing this she ascribed to herself a win,win situation. This is one very formidable person. Knows how to win, how to sacrifice and when to re-reorient her her immovable wall (the flexible shield on a multi-pivot).
I would want this soul, this ruthless but compassionate Lady to take care of my interests.

Let me be clear: I like Gov. Pailn alot. So it is with the utmost respect and consideration that I say I would rather have Gov. Chris Christie as President. There is something about his prosecutorial nature and background that I feel is necessary for these times. Much tom-foolery was conducted during the Obama Administration, and I think we need much wisdom and skill to unearth the “poison pills” deposited by what is arguably, the most corrupt administration since, well, “Tricky Dick”.
Christie’s most egregious flaws are what Theresa (14.) has already noted. Those flaws are simply unacceptable and especially for us gun totin’ ‘mericans unless he changes his stance on that, there is no way I can vote for someone who would so easily and willingly take gun rights away from the citizenry.
I’ve been a gun owner since I was 24 and I’ve yet to shoot my eye out (or anyone else’s either for that matter) and when the lawless and police are the only ones with guns…well, that just spells big trouble.
To Phil D, Chris Christie is for Amnesty, Cap and Trade, and stood staunchly for Castle. Castle voted to spite the Republicans on his way out.
While I respect Chris Christie as Governor, no way would I want him to be POTUS. His gun rights views are also suspect.
If I am wrong about these reported policy standings he takes, I would be happy for you to give the facts against what is reported. Just like Sarah, there may be false reports on his positions.

The left is sitting back now thinking they have finally been able to neuter Sarah Palin. I tell you it would be the greatest victory over the left we could have if, in spite of all the challenges these last two years that we have had to endure with their smearing, we were able to elect not only the first, but the best woman for the job over their “historic” failure of a president.
I like Christie too but Sarah is the one they despise the most.

Everyone is talking about how conservative Gifford is. She voted for the most damaging piece of legislation this country has seen in my lifetime. And if she is like most of the democrats she didn’t even read the bill. And worse, if she did read it, she voted for it knowing how it would restrict our freedom and hurt business. She is not stupid. So what was that about. That is not conservative. She voted on enough conservative legislation to get reelected in a very conservative state. It is very possible that the link at Daily Kos did inspire a nut to take a shot at her.

I think that I have come up with a reasonable theory as to why the punditry, Left AND Right just despise Palin. They use words like ‘dumb’ and ‘silly’, words they don’t apply to comparable men.
Well. Listen up. Pundits were nerds in high school. They worked on the school newspaper. They wrote ABOUT the exciting stuff like the prom, and the basketball game. And they all had a crush on the MOST POPULAR GIRL IN HIGH SCHOOL, who of course, would never have given any of them a second look (she was too busy having the Life the nerds wrote about.)
Now, here is THAT POPULAR GIRL, and NOW, she’s working the cultural hotspots like a pro, she’s active, with 5 children, a great husband, she’s athletic, STILL GREAT LOOKING, sparkly, and she worked hard for new Republican nominees throughout the USA and MOST OF THEM WON the election.

It is no accident that Ms. Palin is their target of first choice … for any success on her part in shaping the thinking (as opposed to mere acceptance of The Narrative) of the nation is a direct threat to the credential-based self-esteem (not to mention their mellow regarding their lifestyle choices) of the Re-, er, Progressive base …
… as well as a direct threat to the relevance and meal tickets of the professional/political class of both parties, who (rightly) see such success, by someone not groomed and controlled by their conventional wisdom, as having the potential to render their services as obsolete as the buggy whip.
That is why electing her, or someone like her who refuses to passively accept the conventional wisdom of the DC elites, would be the real game-changer.
Hillary certainly did “reset” our relations with Russia. She always looks to see which way the wind is blowing before she takes a stand. Yep. She’s the new “One”. Remember how she snuggled up to Arafat? That’s our Hillary. I remember when she said Bill was certainly not having sex with an intern. My leftie sister said Hillary has to play the game so she can become president and then she can really “do good”. Isn’t that what all good tyrant wannabees do? The ends justify the means. Both the left and the right need to tone down the violent rhetoric precisely because there are unhinged people out there. A call for a “target” or “crosshairs” can result in the kind of tragedy in Arizona, especially if put out there on the “social network”. What message does our bitter non-cooperation send to the rest of the world about America? I’m hoping that we can have a civil discourse in 2011.

However it is precisely your type of well meaning concern that has defeated more than a few very good people almost before they got their political feet wet. Sarah Palin is more than aware of the problems she would face but Sarah Palin is no Sharron Angle or Christine O’Donnell.
She has already faced these dragons and won hands down.
She Has had her family, including a wonderful gift from God (as she calls him) in Trig, scathingly debauched in print.
She has shown a strength and resilience almost completely absent from the Political Elite/Rulers who would tear her to shreds. I, for one, would welcome the “bare fisted” style of this frontier lady and I think she would win hands down.

This is particularly in evidence in treating the hypocrisy of the left as they try to marginalize (read: destroy), in the finest of the Alinsky/Chicago way, anyone who dares to threaten their self proclaimed Manifest Destiny to rule over this country.
Anyone who says they really like Sarah Palin but they believe she should not run for office. If you think this way you must see Sarah Palin as weak. Sarah Palin is always going to be a target because she is so dangerous to the far left which has a lot invested in the idea that republican’s and conservatives are old, white men. Being an attractive, young, charismatic women and being conservative makes her a big threat and as such, the media will put on the full course press to destroy her credibility. It’s unfair, but they can’t paint that picture with whatever color brush they choose. I think we have all seen how “fair” the media has been with Sarah Palin and many other conservative women. There is likely nothing Sarah Palin can say or do that would be presented by the mainstream media in a positive light.
Some commentators say they like Sarah Palin, but they don’t want her to run for the presidency because they fear for her safety. Me too – except I’ve been following her for a while. She’s even brave for a regular person, never mind a politician. Any threat to big government, will be targeted equally. She believes this, and if anything, this will make her step up to the challenge.
As much as the Left and their media attacks Sarah Palin, they will attack whoever takes her place as their primary threat in the same way. They too, will get the ‘Palin’ treatment. So we might as well stick with the leader whom we know can take it, and give it right back double.
We might think another can do it, but we’ve already seen Sarah do it.

Those of us that are religious gun carrying patriots need to watch our rhetoric,
or someone might take us seriously.
The Tucson shooting is simply a repeat of history by a mentally ill subject and really irrelevant to any political party or elements.
That said, the populist “movements” of the past couple of years has spent a great deal of time playing to [emotions] with all their superficial rhetoric and precious time playing to rhetoric solving the real underlying problems that has brought the nation to this point in time and circumstance.
Sarah Palin, I suppose, is to be admired for her personal Christian beliefs and moral qualities but is simply NOT relevant to politics and running the nations government within the purview of the Constitution.
1. The Founders and framers of the Constitution, though they did not include the specific language in the Constitution, had NO intent for the new government of the Republic to be ran or influence by any degree whatsoever of theocracy. The “religious right” of the GOP, who now have re-labeled themselves as “conservatives” are simply on the wrong side of the Constitution.
2. Morality, when necessary, is to be regulated by legislating criminal and civil tort laws, that are based upon individual rights abuses and NOT Christian beliefs…thus all Mrs. Palins theocratic political rhetoric is far off base. It is the churches responsibility to teach and shore up religious beliefs and morality within society….not the government!
3. Mrs. Palin’s political rhetoric is as superficial as any other politicians out there today, lacking the ability to address the real underlying cause(s) and their strategic resolve.
4. Mrs. Palin is NOT a strategic technician in any known area’s of national governance by any definition and prides herself in declaring she will do things her way without technical and professional advice. THAT IS SIMPLY A DANGEROUS MINDSET!
In my thinking, Mrs. Palin needs to reassess the superficial path she is on and consider a more relevant and substantive path if she want to continue leading a national movement…..or God forbid, run for president. Her political ineptness has placed her in what I believe will become a self defeating position that will continue to allow her opponents (approximately 50% of voting population) the opportunity to make her their national punching bag….especially in domestic economics and global affairs…not to mention horrible tragedy’s like Tucson.
If she was a great deal more substantive on the real issues rather than playing to emotions, she would not be the punching bag she has become.
So much of the “technical and professional advice” in DC is the equivalent of the flashy swordsmanship in that famous scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark … while it looks impressive, it fails when it’s time to get the job done.
For too long, we have tolerated that kind of flash (“OOOH, they’re so smart!”) instead of reacting as Indiana Jones did … by SIMPLY shooting it down and moving on.
What you perceive as a lack of nuance on Ms. Palin’s part, I see as both perception of, and intolerance, for the idiocy behind the flash, and advocacy of action based on sound, fundamental, SIMPLE principles that don’t impress others as deep thinking, but are the right answer nonetheless.
And BTW, understand that evangelicals like myself cherish our freedom of thought as much as you do, and will be the first to stand and repel theocracy … including the theocracy derived from the blind faith in one’s own omniscience that so many mis-define as “reason”.
Ritchie…I always appreciate everybody’s positions. However, the federal government is far to large and far, far to complex for a single person of average OR far above average intellect to grasp from either a management or strategic premise. It is always wise to seek broad counsel in all walks of life to gain wisdom. I give little if any serious consideration to folks seeking to acquire title and position who claim they solely have the “right answers” and approach to grave responsibilities…as Mrs. Palin seemingly purports with regularity.
To the best of my knowledge Mrs. Palin has never spent time with foreign leaders, foreign economists, domestic leaders of the many departments, agencies, and corporations of the Executive Branch, the leaders of major political parties, has never spent time within the various fortresses of think tanks who are internal/external formulators of government and private sector policy and the list goes on. A good and effective leader is one who can listen to all the counsel given, evaluate it against their own independent knowledge and conclude a right decision.
Do we need yet another inexperienced, unknowledgeable political idealogue running the government as President in these times?
The intent of the founders of the Republic and framers of the constitution remains very clear concerning the function of government versus [any] religion, yet we continue to hear the name and subject matter of Christianity invoked into nearly every aspect of the dialog by the far Right of the GOP, the Tea Party….and Mrs. Palin. I shall continue to get my Christian religious counsel from my chosen church and NOT from any politician or government. Their ONLY constitution right should be that of DEFENDING against government encroaching INDIVIDUAL and collective religious freedoms as defined in the constitution and to a degree, the non binding Declaration of Independence!

The worst losers are the ones that believe all their crap.
Really?!? “One of their own”?!? First of all, Giffords is a fairly centrist Democrat — hardly an ideal target for a right wing whacko. More importantly, the shooter is clearly mentally unstable and therefore trying to apply a rational explanation (right-wing rhetoric pushed him over the edge) to an irrational act is foolish at best. His internet ranting may be anti-government, which alone wouldn’t make him right wing either, but those rantings include burning of the flag and the phrase “Terrorist America”, both of which would more likely be inspired by HuffPo than Hannity.
The violence-laced political rhetoric on both sides is regrettable and should be done away with. I heartily agree with that sentiment. And just like the need to speak reasonably in the political domain, we should speak reasonably and factually regarding this incident. In that vain, there is no indication of any causal link between Palin’s map, or any of the President’s rhetoric for that matter, to what happened in Tucson on Saturday.

Only those ignorant of both printing and rifle scopes would fail to recognize that the images on the map are not crosshairs but crop marks (or, color printing, registration marks). Their meaning is not “here’s where I’m aiming” but “this is the location.”
Even if crosshairs had been used, so what? We should be able to count on our fellow citizens not to shoot us in response to a symbol just as we should be able to count on them not to steal our cars if we leave the key in the ignition.

It worried me when she resigned as gov before her term ended, since it seemed like getting out of the kitchen when she couldn’t stand the heat (this is not a feminine reference, I am thinking of the Harry Truman quote). Before I vote for her for prez, I would like her to finish a term for some important public service job, like house/senate, another run for governor, an important appointment under a repub pres (like Hillary serving as saec of state), or another run as a vice pres candidate.

Do you people know the difference between “crosshairs” and “target”? When you say you are going to target someone, it does not necessarily mean you are going to shoot them. When you target a financial goal, that is a good thing and nobody or no thing gets hurt.
When it is said something is in the crosshairs it means something bad is going to happen (to what is IN the crosshairs). The DCC map used the target symbol and targeted a position-Palin’s map had a list of NAMES under it, that somehow all the conservative blogs seem to omit. AND, she stated 3 opponents were quitting, lucky for them…
