60 Minutes aired a story that advanced suspect anti-Israel propaganda. The CBS news magazine basically reported that Israel is to blame for the decline of Christianity in the Middle East. While 60 Minutes survived Dan Rather’s false story about George Bush, can this show survive another scandal? Find out what Lionel Chetwynd and Roger L. Simon think. Plus, see a sneak peek from Matt Atchity of RottenTomatoes.com of the latest movies out of Hollywood.

Very thought provoking and interesting analysis. Is Jewish self-loathing now in the DNA? I think the answer is tribalism is in the DNA and the self-loathing may be a reflection of discomfort with groups being defined by religion vs political ideology. People are going to form groups, but the hope of these ‘traitors’ may be that they are eliminating a group identity based on blood lines, culture and religion and replacing it with a group identity based on secular beliefs.
Bob Simon was also one of the reporters who spread the al Durah lie without a blink.
Isn’t it about doing everything to prove to oneself that “I am not like those dirty Jews, I am BETTER than that!” And then, one buys the anti semitic lines, patting oneself on the back that “I am not one of those dirty Jews.”
Some women are like that, too: not wanting to be like those ‘silly women’, who like romance novels or movies. Funny, eh?
A good friend of mine just took a tour of the Holy Land with his church. When I asked him about it upon his return, he expressed shock and sadness at the state of the Christians in the Holy Land, and his church tour group viewed it as an eye-opening experience. It was his impression that the suffering of the Christian community was due to the actions of Israel. He told one story of a 27 year old Christian girl working in a religious memorabelia shop in Bethlehem who had never been to Jerusalem, although it is mere minutes away, due to restrictions. He specifically cited this 60 minute piece, and mentioned that the Israeli ambassador had personally contacted CBS to try to get the show not to air. Now I’m certain that a good deal of his impressions of the Holy Land were the result of his interactions with the people running the tour, who probably had their own agenda. However, I’m sure that the truth is somewhere in between, and not as favorable towards Israel as many would have us believe.
I consider myself to be fairly conservative, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, and I’m certainly not anti-Semitic, but I believe that the U.S. has to stop giving a free pass to Israel. My guess is that the supporters of Israel wield much more influence in our government and press than anyone would care to acknowledge. For instance, the group CAMERA was mentioned in this piece. I would like to know who is involved in that organization – I’m sure it’s not just a group of individuals interested in balanced reporting. In short, I wouldn’t totally write off this piece just because it came from CBS.
Right, the poor Arabs have no way of sawying the American government, except for that ocean of oil they are sitting on. Have you ever heard of CAIR? They have a hell of lot more influence than CAMERA.
“sawying” = “swaying”
Forgot to mention that even though you are “certainly” not anti-semitic you were all over the “Jooooos wield hidden secret influence” canard.
Your friend should be aware, as the video makes clear, that this problem only occurred under Arab rule. Before Oslo, no such problems existed. Also, your friend should have visited the churches in Israel (also part of the Holy Land). I think he would have encountered entirely different conditions. Also, your friend must know why there is little travel between the PA areas and Israel. When the borders were open, the Arabs under PA control insisted on making a bang when visiting Israel. The bang was not appreciated by Israelis and so they cut-off much of the communication with the PA territories. If you friend does not know this, he must be willfully (and woefully) ignorant.
As for knowing who operates CAMERA, I would suggest you Google the name. Through some diligent research, you should be able to find out who is involved in the organization.
Finally, yes, there may some truth in the 60-minutes program. But, like the NYT, it’s all the news we can skew to fit our view. Absent context, whatever is true can create an impression that leads to false conclusions.
What CBS did with that 60 Minutes segment was nothing less than a blood libel, with all that it implies. I marvel at the non-event these attacks on the Jews and Judaism have become a scant few decades after the holocaust. But Jews have been known to vote with their feet. I just hope it’s not too late.
Roger Simon (around the 7 minute mark) asks what kind of Jews are Moonves and Simon? Simple answer: Leftists who have confused Judaism with Leftism. Then Roger near the end asks, what kind of Jews will survive? Another simple answer: Not the Moonveses and Simons. It will be Jews whom God labelled as stiff-necked. Those who in the face of every difficulty will cling to their Judaism which they will then transmit to their many descendants.
Curious if any of the writers at PJMedia will write about Israel’s current expulsion campaign against illegal African immigrants. Bet not. Might get too many righteous gentiles asking the awkward question “why can’t we do something like this too?”
