Monitoring Political Correctness

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6XsGr86A1rs/R-_FwazeOBI/AAAAAAAAADM/6QQu8rRvKek/s1600-h/barnesnoblegoldbergsm.jpg”img style=”float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6XsGr86A1rs/R-_FwazeOBI/AAAAAAAAADM/6QQu8rRvKek/s200/barnesnoblegoldbergsm.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”"id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183579131746334738″ //aI was at my local Books-A-Million and noticed that right on the front stacks sat Jonah Goldberg’s book, a href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385511841?ie=UTF8tag=wwwviolentkicomlinkCode=as2camp=1789creative=9325creativeASIN=0385511841″iLiberal Fascism./i/aimg src=”http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwviolentkicoml=as2o=1a=0385511841″ width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”" style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” / “Great,” I thought, but I have often seen Books-A-Million put out a variety of books that are not as politically correct as some displayed prominently at other bookstores such as Borders or Barnes Noble. So today, when I was at my local Barnes Noble, I decided to see if they also gave prominent placement to Goldberg’s book. br /br /I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did. It was right up front as you can see from the pictures, both under “Current World Affairs” and “Best-selling Non-fiction.” As you can see from the picture below, there are other right-leaning or libertarian books displayed, for example, a href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0061540463?ie=UTF8tag=wwwviolentkicomlinkCode=as2camp=1789creative=9325creativeASIN=0061540463″iFairTax/i/aimg src=”http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwviolentkicoml=as2o=1a=0061540463″ width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”" style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” / by Neal Boortz and a href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/141655985X?ie=UTF8tag=wwwviolentkicomlinkCode=as2camp=1789creative=9325creativeASIN=141655985X” span style=”font-style:italic;”John McCain: An American Odyssey/span/aimg src=”http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwviolentkicoml=as2o=1a=141655985X” width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”" style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” / by Robert Timberg. It’s nice to see that (at least at this local Barnes Nobles), books that are left, right and in-between get displayed. So, glad to see that my political correctness monitoring was unnecessary, I grabbed (and paid for, of course) a book by Bill Cosby, a href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1595550925?ie=UTF8tag=wwwviolentkicomlinkCode=as2camp=1789creative=9325creativeASIN=1595550925″ span style=”font-style:italic;”Come On People: On the Path from Victims to Victors/span/aimg src=”http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wwwviolentkicoml=as2o=1a=1595550925″ width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”" style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” / that I have been meaning to read, and left. br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6XsGr86A1rs/R-_F4KzeOCI/AAAAAAAAADU/y_yK6_YZIcA/s1600-h/barnesnoblecurrent.jpg”img style=”display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6XsGr86A1rs/R-_F4KzeOCI/AAAAAAAAADU/y_yK6_YZIcA/s320/barnesnoblecurrent.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”"id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183579264890320930″ //a
