It’s All Over. Not.
Like you, I’ve been reading all the post-election autopsies. Here, for my money, is the smartest I’ve seen so far, from Michael S. Greve at the Library of Law and Liberty, hat-tip, as so often, to the Blogfather, Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit:
For advanced democracies in the transfer state predicament, there are only two ways out. One is a responsible Social-Democratic party that is (1) cognizant of the fact that a wrecked economy would also wreck its constituencies and (2) capable of holding labor unions in line. Successful reform countries—Canada, Germany, Sweden, and (more arguably) Brazil—all have that dynamic in common. America had but forfeited that chance in 2008, with Mr. Obama’s victory over Mrs. Clinton. The moment is gone for good, and Mrs. Clinton (should she enter the 2016 sweepstakes that started yesterday) will go nowhere. The new face of the party is Elizabeth Warren et al—brutal, ruthless hacks from Harvard.
The only other way out is a political force that offers a competing social model. That force, and that model, does not now exist—largely, I suspect, on account of our grimly professional politics. Conservatives felt compelled, for eight long years, to defend the Bush administration, an exercise that left them exhausted and compromised. After 2008, they should have done what opposition parties normally do—rethink, and regenerate. Alas, there was never any time for that: all the energy went into a fight against Obamacare, stimulus bills, etc.
Read the whole excellent thing here.

I just joined the Libertarian (sp?) Party 10 minutes ago.
Read the same article but what happens if people won’t listen?
Russia (barely) survived the Soviets. We can survive these clowns. Just grin and bear it.
I don’t know what the fuzz is all about. The GOP did a so-so job at retaking the White House and lost. Among my circle of friends I kept on saying (and I offended a few) that four more years are perhaps what the country needs to wake up to the fact that the Left never delivers. So TAKE IT LIKE A MAN and bear this four years (or less). When retards come complaining that their tummy aches make sure to ask them where it hurts and hit them there. Then tell them to abstain from voting for life if they don’t want more punishment! Ha! Just kidding. They will all stand in unemployment and soup kitchen lines until they drop dead. No need to hurt them.
Well, Mr. Klaven, there is a new social model. You need to talk to your friend Bill Whittle. The only way to fight Leviathan is with a dispersed, decentralized and localized populace. And I’m going to promote it until Mr. Whittle’s idea finally catches on.
I recall that after the 1964 Presidential election pasting of conservative Barry Goldwater, both the Republican party and conservatism were declared dead. And yet, four years later Republicans owned the White House. The trouncing of ultra liberal George McGovern in 1972 left the Democratic party in shambles, but four years later the voters championed the liberal peanut farmer from Georgia. The democrats won in 2008 and 2012 by running against the 8 years of George Bush. I expect the Republicans will win in 2016 and 2020 running against the 8 years of President Obama.
The ONLY hope for non-Democrats is a huge defection on the part of Whites who vote Democrat. NINETY PERCENT of Republican votes come from WHITES! Like it or not, deny it or not, the GOP is the feckless Party of White America…the only Race That Dare Not Speak Its Name.
The other races (Black, Hispanic, Asian) are 70 to 90+ percent on the Obama plantation. Racial solidarity trumps all. The disproportionately influential tribes (Jews, gays, Wymyn) are their fellows. The ONLY big group that regularly splits is Whites, who constitution over 70% of actual voters.
Whites elected this Obamascenity again. If we acted like the other races and tribes, he’d have fallen in a landslide.
And please don’t try to get me to think that a party which was unable to gain any traction with Asians –the most successful and culturally conservative group in America– could appeal to the deeply collectivist/victimist Hispanics. Asians apparently see themselves as People of Color before all else.
Your optimism is charming, Mr Klavan, but unless Whites wake up, “more punishment” is all we have to look forward to.
