Is Mitt Romney More of a Dude Than We Thought?
Most importantly, the Romster defied the NAACP’s requirement that blacks be treated like dependent children unable to fend for themselves in a free nation. “As you may have heard from my opponent, I am also a believer in the free-enterprise system,” he told the crowd. “I believe it can bring change where so many well-meaning government programs have failed. I’ve never heard anyone look around an impoverished neighborhood and say, ‘You know, there’s too much free enterprise around here. Too many shops, too many jobs, too many people putting money in the bank.’”
That didn’t sit well with those who need to keep blacks bitter and scared in order to chain them even more securely to the government plantation. “You cannot possibly talk about jobs for black people at the level he’s coming from,” scolded Charlotte Stoker Manning, the head of Women in the NAACP. “He’s talking about entrepreneurship, savings accounts — black people can barely find a way to get back and forth from work.” In other words, blacks are helpless and anyone who says differently is racist. How’s that attitude been working out for you, African-Americans? Let me tell you: your unemployment is close to 15 percent and rising. And it will continue to rise as long as people like Obama and Nancy Pelosi remain in power.
With Obama and leftism failing so spectacularly and completely, we conservatives are hankering for a Reaganesque visionary to ride out of the dawn horizon and set things moving rightward once and for all. That’s not Romney’s style. Sad panda. But his stands on the major issues are exactly where we would have them be: he supports Paul Ryan’s entitlement reform (another act of real political courage), he swears he’ll repeal Obamacare, he’s strong on immigration, thoroughly reasonable on Islamism and Israel, and committed to marriage and life without showing any trace of bigotry or hate. Has he made mistakes? Yes, he has. But I made a mistake once and it hasn’t stopped me from becoming perfect since. On where he’s headed now, I think we can take the man at his word.
Which may be the biggest point of all. I’m beginning to suspect Mitt Romney is an actual real live man of integrity. This is no small thing. In fact, in light of his openly conservative agenda, it may turn out to be everything.

“I’m beginning to suspect Mitt Romney is an actual real live man of integrity. This is no small thing. In fact, in light of his openly conservative agenda, it may turn out to be everything.” This statement captures my convictions exactly. When the wheels fall off, we will need someone we can trust to set us straight.
I’ve met Romney once; an acquaintance who works for Delta Airlines has met him on numerous occasions. The things that always come across when you meet him are, 1) he is a truly nice guy, not some attention-seeking asshat; 2) he doesn’t make much of himself, e.g. he’s fairly self-deprecating; 3) he does appear to have a fundamental core of decency and integrity, a sort-of Ward Cleaver brought forward 50 years; 4) he has an air of competence fairly-won, not assigned to him by a fawning press or his partisan buddies.
(On the other hand, my friend’s description of when John Kerry comes through Logan Airport are truly hysterical, a study in pomposity and arrogance)
As a lifelong Masshole (what the citizens of the other N.E, states jokingly refer to us as), all I’ll say is he functioned well and managed to do a fairly good job here, despite being outnumbered and outvoted by the Massachusetts lockstep Democrat machine, and in the midst of the dot-com recession. I suspect if he could do that here (this state being, of course, a literal Democrat nirvana), he can do it in dealings with Congress and the Senate as President. He understands how to cross the aisle and build consensus. get the job done, yet not be owned by the opposition.
’nuff said.
thank you for sharing your (and your friends’) experiences.
I would have to agree with both you and AK…there is more here than what meets the MSM filtered eye…
I believe that the two contrasts last week-Mitt’s speech at the naacp and O’s ‘small business people weren’t successful because they every did anything’ speech…will be looked back upon as the turning point of this non military civil war….America-free will, self governance, personal responsibility, one nation under God v. socialist/communist/fascists/statist government is everything and you derive the air you breathe, the water you drink, the house you live in, the job you have, the car you drive, the school you go to, your very existence from, by, and through the gov….
Allston,
“As a lifelong Masshole (what the citizens of the other N.E, states jokingly refer to us as)”
What make you think we were joking?? ;~)
lifelong NH resident,
Freedomlost
At least you live in a state where some sense prevails. Try being a gosh-darn Conservative in Bwaney Fwank country. ‘orrible it is.
(No offense at the Masshole thing. I know people from here well, and most of them ARE such. Less the “M,” that is.)
How should the residents of Massachusetts “jokingly” refer to the other citizens of New England : Maine, Vermont, Connecticut,Rhode Island, and, oh yes, New Hampshire, who also voted, to elect the most hideous mistake, in the history of the republic?
I’ve a good friend whose very long time friend worked with Romney during the Olympics. His comment was romney was focused on getting things done. This man also worked in huntsman’s governor administration and said huntsman was all about huntsman.
As someone who also had the opportunity to meet Governor Romney, I concur with your assessment (as well as that of your friend) of the man. Another aspect of his personality that impressed me was his genuine enthusiasm and excitement when hearing about others’ success. He is achievement-oriented where Obama is power-oriented. In other words, if Governor Romney gains power it’s a by-product of his having created value for many who then in turn grant greater authority to administer based on trust. BHO’s goal is/was to attain power so that it can be used to make decisions for others regardless of whether others agree with or share the same vision.
I’m Unconcerned about nonsense like “decency,” so if he’s running 4 President, then he’s wildly spending, publicity-starved, self-loathing powerbroker lackey; ergo, he’s a liberal thru & thru.
Whether or not Romney is the ideal conservative is neither here nor there.
The fact of the matter is that he is lights years better than Obama, in all ways that matter. Is he perfect? Of course not. However, beggars can’t be choosers, and the US will go to hell-in-a-hand basket if Obama gets re-elected.
Moreover, can anymore imagine questioning the following scenario, regarding Romney – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/07/17/mysterious-deaths-never-far-from-barack-hussein-obama-bad-luck-or-something-more-you-decide-commentary-by-adina-kutnicki-66-2/
You decide.
Many libertarians see Romney as worst than Obama. They want Obama to win big so as to destroy the republicans at which point the libertarians would pick up the pieces.
Frankly I do not want a messiah. The left has the great lord Obama and the libertarians have their messiah in Ron Paul or Johnson. No man is going to get rid of the mess we are in. It is the people returning to G-D who straighten out this nation. Nothing else will work.
not true. The libertarians who want Obama to win do so because they believe the system must crash before it can improve, and such a crash would occur faster under The Obama than under Mitt. Add to that the condescension that can always be counted on from the so-cons, and it is small wonder that libertarians – who by all rights, ARE small govt conservatives – want little to do with the party of not-quite-as-big-as-Dems-want govt.
Yes. That’s why the libertarians have developed into such a formidable party.
Because of their superior numbers and willingness to take to the street when the day of reckoning comes, they will take the reigns of power and give them back to “we the people.” Right.
Actually, it should be apparent that regimes, unlike free societies, double down and “the new day dawning blah, blah, blah” is proved less than a cruel pipe dream. All rational people have a libertarian bent. The libertarian party and its offshoots, however, are crazy. I’m sorry, is that an ad hom remark? Well, shoot, just light up and watch it slip away.
Ad hom? No, just immature which is par for the course for the so-cons who did so well when they had the helm that the country not only tossed them out in ’06, it also went full retard by electing Obama. The ’10 election turned on libertarian types running against country club Repubs and when character showing time came on the budget vote last year, the TP types were abandoned by their own.
You keep believing that it’s all about team sparky. The Repubs gave us No Child, Medicare Part D, the TSA, and a hefty down payment on the debt that Obama has expanded. Laughing about what you can’t understand only confirms your ignorance, so congrats on that.
Oh please! The gop NEVER had the numbers the dems had in obummers first 2 years. Dems filibustered and the gop compromised like they always do.
Life under Bush was NOT bad. But the constant drum beat of a hostile media (dayafterdayafterdayafterday) convinced people that something was wrong. Once the dems got their numbers in congress they tanked the economy in a single year – but people still blamed Bush for that.
I don’t know why (cough*media*cough) they don’t seem to blame obummer for a really lousy economy, but there it is. Perhaps we’ll find out in November.
lolly,
Stop covering for them. After 9/11, Repubs would have let W do anything he wanted. I was all for his decision to retaliate, particularly in Afghanistan. A better exit strategy would have been nice. But the hyperspending? Not so much.
Leaders transcend Congressional numbers. Reagan managed to do it. Good grief, even Bill Clinton got things done with a Congress run by his opposition. That Repubs habitually speaks far more to my original point than it does to anything having to do with the media. They talk small govt but they never actually do it.
Most conservatives err on the positive side and so the tradition is. Left wing wackos get power, everyone realizes what a stupid idea that was, votes conservative. Republicans get power, try to make positive changes, compromise to get it done . . . never see their side get done only the opposition’s.
Look at immigration policy from Reagan on. Yes, come up with a rational immigration policy, with amnesty AND sealing the borders. I think it’s three times now we did the one without the other! Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2.
I’m an indie conservative, Alex. The libertarians you reference would play out something like Asimov’s Foundation series, the story line of which revolved around a decaying empire which could not be put to rights except by accelerating its decline and rebuilding. Great sci-fi. If you care to reread what I said about the libertarian urge vs. the Libertarian Party…
Your comment to me:
“You keep believing that it’s all about team sparky. The Repubs gave us No Child, Medicare Part D, the TSA, and a hefty down payment on the debt that Obama has expanded. Laughing about what you can’t understand only confirms your ignorance, so congrats on that.”
You way WAY overreach, but I see you’re game for it. We are in the same sinking boat, my friend, and the libertarians are in it up to their necks, the same as all of us. You called me a so-con as if that could possibly sum up my experiences or world view. You think, because I make a quip about lighting up that I’m okay with big government as long as it’s the right kind of big government?
The fact of the matter is, under the current regime libertarians get squashed along with everyone else. There is no “sideline” wide enough to permit a regrouping, no “now it’s our turn…” There isn’t going to be a “later.”
I’m sorry you took my comment on the Libertarian PARTY personally. Although the word “you” was meant as a plural form in reference to libertarian party members whose perspective was cited by yourself, I concede the ambiguity and I apologize. T
Wasn’t it god that brought us George Bush? That worked great!
Explain exactly how your life was so miserable under Bush.
Bush was the right guy with regard to terror; I shudder to think what the response would have been under a President Gore. But how anyone who voted for Bush has issues with Romney’s conservatism is inexplicable.
Line up spending and new programs in the Bush years and show that list to someone without telling them what party the president represented. I doubt many folks would say that was the work of a right-winger. No, life under Bush was not as bad as it is under Obama, but Bush was a big govt guy, too.
And here I thought people voted for him and he won the election. Twice.
Dems, always in denial of reality!
Yeah, and Allah brought us obama.
Just where is this G-d? He was the wildly impulsive, envious, befuddled protagonist of the books of Moses & beyond; by the N.T., he’d taken a powder & left only-begotten son in his place. G-d is the epitome of the frivolous, irresponsible CEO: & He’s gonna save our nation? Only if our nation lies betw. the Med. & Jordan; but He deserted that long ago.
Romney might be some kind of gentleman (“A gentleman never insults anyone inadvertently.”), but I’d hold out for someone vaguely connected to reality. E.g., American blacks have an average IQ of 85. Why is treating them like “dependent children unable to fend for themselves in a free society” beyond the pale? In today’s ‘information economy’ it makes some sense to me. The cut-off between realists and fantascists seems to be between Rightists and everybody else — Conservatives, moderates, Liberals, Libertarians, and Leftists. As to Reagan: Carter was a pathetic jerk-off because he let the Persians’ attack on a US embassy and kidnapping of its staff go unpunished. Well, Ronbo became the CinC on January 20, 1981, and what did he do? With the hostages safely out in international airspace, why didn’t he light up Tehran with a few nukes? Anything less is no different from Carter’s Onan-the-Seminarian routine. As we’ve learned in every conflict since 1945, the ur-blunder in foreign affairs is to let your enemies live. Hell, even Barney Fife understood that victory began with ‘nipping it in the bud.”
Dude, lay off the Quaaludes before you post. That wasn’t even vaguely coherent.
May I assume it’s the literary and contemporary-history references in that post which seem obscure to you? They were not at all obscure to me. (You could always look them up, yanno! Or didn’t they teach you how in those marvelous government schools?)
I’ll bet you can’t follow Dennis Miller either, for the same reason; he, too, packs so many cultural references into every line that gubmint-school types are ALWAYS complaining “I just don’t understand him.”
“American blacks have an average IQ of 85.”
You forgot the at the end.
International statistics of the IQ bell curve show that no one ethnicity is genetically predestined to higher/lower IQ.
There is some research to show that the Jews of Israel, due to 2 millennium of culling, tend to higher than world average IQs. The same studies show some tendency to lower IQs in cultures/societies which practice iterative incest (first cousin marriage perpetuated over many generations). These studies have not yet been conclusively substantiated by peer review.
However, as yet, there has been no conclusive proof that the quantity of melanin in the skin has any bearing whatsoever on the intelligence levels.
I can only conclude that you have been falsely informed and/or you belong to the almost 50% of people with a lower than average intelligence.
This writer is a moron.
Ann Coulter hated Romney. If we don’t elect Chris Christie , Romney will win and Obama will win
Remember
Right wing nuts are so gullible
No wonder they think the earth is flat and 5000 year old
As opposed to practically weeping and bowing at every appearance of your savior, the Wizard’s Apprentice, the great Obama? You people worship him as if you all belong to a cult. Even when it’s apparent to anyone with an ounce of sense that he’s an incompetent f’up?
Yeah, Buddy. Conservatives are crazy, because your jug-eared Messiah says we are.
Pot –> Kettle –> black
(Oh, yes, and I’m certain the “black,” above, is in your head, Waaaccciiisssttt!)
” I’m beginning to suspect Mitt Romney is an actual real live man of integrity. This is no small thing.”
Compared to the current president, it is as large a thing as large gets.
Well, the current occupant of the White House has lowered the bar significantly.
Still, I’d like to know where this “conservative” was when Mitt was governor of Massachusetts.
Well, one consideration is the view on the role of government at different levels. If you take conservatism to be small government, small regulation, and small interference with people’s lives, and liberalism to be the opposite – justified in additional rules leading to better society, then your viewpoint can vary based on the level of government.
That policy can also extend to the Federal-State government relationship, in terms of being limited in how much you limit State power.
Just about everyone reading this site will definitely agree that a conservative Federal government is best, in terms of social programs (or lack-there-of), Foreign Policy, military size/development, etc.
But many can ALSO look at a more overreaching state government as less of a crime, and – circumstantially – pragmatic.
I cannot speak to the success of Romney’s Healthcare system in MA for instance. Perhaps it’s utterly doomed. But that isn’t for me to decide what people in MA want to do. From what little I do know, people saw a need, and many are happy(ish) with the result. Being done at a State level, it has/had a better chance of being suited to the problem at hand. Closer distance between law and effect.
And on top of that, the redeeming quality is personal choice is maintained. If the policies of the state truly irk, offend, or infuriate you, you can leave the state. The same thing cannot be said for Federal programs. Moving from Massachusetts to Texas is far less intensive than moving from the U.S. to [insert more conservative 1st world country that doesn't come to mind at the moment].
This opens us up to a massively untapped resource, where we can use any one of our potentially-independent 50 countries to identify problems and be free to try out solutions. Rather than being hell-bent on implementing sweeping changes at the Federal level, try it out on a small scale, in a far more voluntary procedure, and gauge the effects. We can work out the kinks, or demonstrate the utter futility and disastrous consequences.
Right now, we’ve basically just seen a broad version of this testing liberal vs conservative management of state government, and the resulting bankruptcies that follow the former.
So, all of this comes out to say, that it can truly be a conservative ideal to want a larger state government – or at least to permit such a thing to occur. Keep the Federal government small, and let people decide how they want to govern themselves in their own state. Learn from that, and apply it across the nation when it works.
From what I’ve seen, this is Romney’s operating policy. Something I can respect, and with which I trust his governing of the nation to be as light as his governing of MA was intense.
Just for completeness’ sake, and putting aside philosophical objections to Romneycare:
Its failure is in its funding. The last time I checked, roughly half of Romneycare is paid for by the Federal Government. As such, it’s not really a state-only program, and it’s not something you can emulate at the Federal level.
I will say I’m not too keen on what I’ve heard from Romneycare, though I won’t condemn the state for a tragedy of the commons scenario. If the Federal government will give them money – take it – they’re paying for it anyway.
I still think something of that design is horrible, but the fault lies at the Federal level.
So, In order of points
-I recall hearing something similar, and I’ll take your word for it.
-Not sustainable by the state alone in that half the funding comes from Federal government. The question is if they would have found alternative funding if they had to for the same program, though my gut instinct is no.
-Try telling that to BHO.
from what i’ve read of romneycare it is classic romney. he took the federal money that was coming his way anyway and tried to make better use of it. in other words he was given chopped liver and tried to make it palatable. i can live with that.
here is a side by side chart comparison between romneycare and obamacare. the far right “anybody but romneys” were the one who put out they were the same. if you look at them side by side, you can see there are major differences. the site is NOT an offical romney site.
http://mittromneycentral.com/2012/07/08/key-differences-between-romneycare-and-obamacare/
By his own account, working with an extremely Left-wing state legislature. Who do you think put “Romneycare” on his desk? He gave the people of Massachusetts what they wanted, bless their hearts. Now, it is to be hoped that he will give us what WE want. =^[.]^=
Actually, Current version of Romneycare is much much more different than when originally drafted. Specially after the election of Governor Patrick or some of us call him Governor Urkel. I challenge any right center republican or even democrat to go head to head with The far left democrats i.e Marxist in Beacon Hill. To his credit Mitt was able to put the breaks on taxachussets, cut taxes and manage to create budget surpluses. Mitt has more spin than meet the eyes.
You can’t call Patrick Urkel, OBAMA IS URKEL!
Although RomneyCare is often seen as fungible with ObamaCare, there are substantial differences other than that RomneyCare was not enacted under the Commerce Clause. This article at National Review describes other differences, including that Governor Romney’s vetoes of significant parts of the thing were overridden by the very heavily Democrat Massachusetts legislature. There is much more and the article is well worth reading.
Newt Gingrich is an awesome advisor, huh? Surely Mitt is most grateful for his guidance. Newt should be the next POTUS. Every single candidate has built their campaign platforms to parallel his ideas because his solutions are what America needs.
woulda, coulda, shoulda
Obama is trashing Romney about decisions he claims were made at Bain Capital after Romney was no longer running Bain Capital. He is mocking Romney’s wife’s horses and Mitt’s singing ability because he has very few actually damaging facts to exploit. Imagine what he would do to Newt and Callista, based on damaging facts about them? Bottom line, Newt is too personally disorganized and can’t raise enough money to run for the Presidency. I like Newt, he is always good for a well placed rant, but Mitt Romney is far more electable. A defeat of Obama is the only thing that saves this country from Communism, so I am supporting Mitt. ABO2012.
“I like Newt, he is always good for a well placed rant”
Me too…that is (was) the whole key to his popularity.
People HUNGERED for that disgusted look on his face and his “..thats is utterly, demonstribly false” followed by an inarguable disembowelment of evey lie Obama uttered and the press cooperated with.
Newt had the stones to CALL a lie, a lie, not simply something that “wasnt true” as if there was some honest disagreement on issues. He, more than anyone would call “bullshit” on them.
A Newt/Obama face off in any debate would have been an absolute bloodbath…it could have started an actual SHOOTING war in the streets when the gauntlet was thrown, Debate Moderators dismissed as the Partisans they are, and interviewers openly called commies in the Obama Camp.
Ugly, mean payback once “the game” was abandoned and someone, FINALLY, said the truth about our oponents and their motives…
And, in the end, he would have lost.
Too much baggage for most people…but MAN what a fire-fight that could have been!
Ever go headlong into a fight you KNEW you were gonna lose, just cause youre so damn mad and you want that arrogant bastard to never forget that opening hay-maker you landed, before his friends ganged up on you?
Yeah, THATS why Newt was so popular.
Yeah, I’ve been feeling that way about ol’ Romney since January. The NAACP speech was a gem. Romney, I think, is one of those “have more than thou showest, speak less than thou knowest” kinda guys. I suspect that there’s a lot of good stuff there we’re not aware of, largely because he has a good character, derived from a strong, healthy relationship with his father, and, unlike some current US presidents, he knows who he is.
And for those who think he’s spineless, go to YouTube and watch him dismantle Ted Kennedy during their ’94 US Senate debate. The Boston Globe ran an excellent serial biography of Romney some time back and what you see is a man who is not only smarter than most people, but one who, more importantly, outworks everyone else. He’s a square, he’s boring, but he really wants to serve the country he loves, which allows even a somewhat off the wall religion like Mormonism to grow and thrive. He’s going to be a good president, and possible a great one, IMHO.
So he’s dull and boring – who cares? WE’ve had two “cool kids” in the WH (Clinton and Obummer) and “cool kids” NEED to be liked and do stupid things to impress the crowd. Dull people care more about doing the right thing.
What I like about Romney (and I’m no big fan) is:
1) He gave away his inheritance. He may have started with a top notch education, but he wanted to make it on his own. That’s why the dog story is charming – because we all have one of those stories.
2) He’s been in a monogamist relationship with his wife and we know it wasn’t a business decision. Also, he did well enough (and she cared enough to put her own desires aside) that his wife was able to give full attention to their family.
If nothing else, the Romney’s are an excellent example of the time-and-society-tested strength of “family values.” I, for one, believe our leaders in government should have exemplary lives worthy of being duplicated. That’s leadership. If one holds high office, but is personally/morally execrable, one is not a leader, but merely an ideologue with power. I respond to leadership.
With you all the way on this, and finding Mitt more impressive by the day. Thought his NAACP speech was terrific, on top of his having the elementary balls to go there and deliver it. His demeanor when they boo-ed him spoke eloquently.
What’s amazing to me are the rubber-man contortions (they make Rose Mary Woods look like an arthritic) that the leftist spokespersons have gone to in attempting to nail him for inferences and intentions that simply were not there, proving unequivocally that they are plainly in business to stay in business, and desperately throwing everything they’ve got into keeping white America in a Catch-22 vis-à-vis race. We’re desperately in need of someone who can face them down; looks to me like we’ve found him.
I also deeply regret a derisive comment I posted earlier in the game about not seeing character in those lines etched in his face. How wrong I was, and how glad I am of it!
I expect Mitt to win the election. I do not have high expectations about his conservative instincts. He was my Governor here in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. He sure didn’t sound like a conservative back then. So maybe someone might say that he was just trying to fit in. Okay, let’s say he was hiding his conservative leanings to get things done. Then what do you think will happen when he’s trying to get bi-partisan bills passed? I think the answer is he’ll go along to get along. Final result, more liberal laws and more pain for conservatives. He’s better than Obama, but that’s not saying much.
Regards,
John
Well, that depends entirely upon us. A president is different than a congressman and what bills he signs as president will depend upon who WE put in congress. This is up to US!
Dead -on, Lolly!
We have no choice now but Romney to rid us of this Devil, so we need to concentrate on his coat tails….
long flowing tea-stained coat tails.
He can only sign what gets put in front of him, so lets get RID of this disaster-in-chief with “whomever”.
We can blunt whatever real or imagined sqishy Moderate Mittens fears we have of Romney
by putting more “real” conservatives in behind him.
I’m not bashing the Mit-ster..I’m just responsibly hedging my bet.
Every good combat position has at least TWO firing positions, to better take care of “the unexpected”
Guillotining Federal Employees?
Now there’s another memo I didn’t get. We’ve been busy laying in cord wood for the mass ‘Demo/Libo Burning At The Stake’ on the Federal Mall following the inauguration.
So what else is changed?
And yes, it seems to my eye, he has started, or at least appears to be taking on the appearance of, a Mensch. A real person. Someone who you may disagree with on certain issues but whom you still trust to do the best thing as he see’s it. Which is miles in advance of any concept of Obama the ‘Man(?)’.
Zeprin:
“…a Mensch. A real person. Someone who you may disagree with on certain issues but whom you still trust to do the best thing as he see’s it”
I’ve always had that feel of Joe Leibermans Character….
Which, paradoxically, is why I could never, ever vote for a member of his party, given the way they (expectedly) savaged him for stepping out of line with their radical agenda.
A thought or picture or question just popped into my mind.
Now I’m an Old Soldier and I retain an view of two kinds of Officers.
The kind that when told that a dangerous position MUST be taken turns and says,
“You men there. Fix Bayonets and take that position!”
And then there is the kind of Officer who will when receiving his orders, turns and says “Men, FOLLOW ME!’
I’m thinking Mr. Romney is the SECOND type of leader.
Obama is assuredly the first.
Great analogy. I wholeheartedly agree.
In the very apt words of my lord Glenn Reynolds von der Instapundit, “I think I like the cut of this Romney fellow’s jib!”
Recently I had the pleasure of a night on Broadway at “The Book of Mormon,” and it’s got something to say about this campaign presciently. The lead character, 19-year-old missionary Kevin Price, is handsome, intelligent, talented, decent, industrious, and a natural leader; his Achilles’ heel is an arrogant overconfidence. By the end of the show, he has learned humility, and can follow as well as lead. I came out of the theater thinking that he’d grown up into the real world, and was now Mitt Romney (and I was also humming “I Am Africa,” possibly the funniest show tune ever).
BTW, see the show if you can, but you have to like naughty words.
“With Obama and leftism failing so spectacularly and completely . . .”
They haven’t failed! They are succeeding spectacularly, unfortunately, because their goal is more and more people dependent on government, more and more spending, more taxing, and more shaping us into the mold of a European style welfare state. This is why Rush called for his failure from day one, because success for Obama/Pelosi, is real failure for America.
Except that they are not going for a European-type welfare state with a viable legislature, they are going for a Cuba-style state with a rich ruling elite owning everything and a powerless, figurehead congress.
Sorry, having trouble with your crap detector. Ain’t nothing phoney about Romney’s principle-free beliefs. He suffers from a severe Bush-like rabbit-in-the-headlights look when confronted by ‘the vision thing’ — and it shows. Partly, that explains why he’s so unpersuasive while working a crowd: he can preach to the converted but to no one else. The guy looks and sounds like a generic candidate because… that’s what he is.
By contrast, a rumpled mess of a politician like Gingrich can go to the mat and get in your face, impromptu, on dozens of subjects. Steady now, that’s not an argument that Gingrich should be the nominee — he shouldn’t, and it’s far too late anyway — but it is an argument that those who helped promote Romney got what they wanted: a cardboard cutout, a corporate standee who poses awkwardly like a loose marionette, all lacquered and spackled and clunky, a guy who won’t rock the boat because he’s not too sure what it’s made of, where it comes from, where it’s going, or why.
Romney fans, you made your bed, now go lie in it. But if you believe the rest of us will join you in lockstep, smiling and happy, even jubilant, well, dream on. Certainly, it’s vital to get Romney over the top and into the WH, and it’s a lot of work (why do I think of pushing a big turd up a steep hill?). It will be done. But he’s a one term president from the get-go.
Probably because the country needs more than the anodyne mediocrity that is Romney. Hunting season opens right after inauguration. Forget honeymoons.
After reading this article and the comments I was reminded of a film I saw the other day, The Angel and the Badman, starring John Wayne. There’s a scene where JW’s character is out with his girl, riding around the open country in a horse-drawn wagon (this is a western btw). Next thing we know three of his mortal enemies come out of nowhere and start chasing the couple, shooting at them. The look of fear on the girl’s face tells us she’s thinking this day may be her last. And we’re thinking we’re awfully glad that the man driving the horses is John Wayne, not some lesser man. Her fate depends on the character, smarts, and grit of the man with whom she’s chosen to align herself.
She doesn’t need a savior, just a man who knows who the bad guys are and how to deal with them in order to protect her and their future life together.
Bad guys are shooting (metaphorically) at us. We do not want to be embarrassed by having gone out with an inept wimp who won’t stand up for us, who is confused about who the bad guys are and uncertain of his ability to take them on. The more Romney shows he knows who the bad guys are and that he is not afraid to dispatch them, the more the voters will align themselves with him, get behind him, and spur him on to do the job that needs doing: restoring America to its Constitutional roots, dismantling the welfare state, and downsizing the federal behemoth that is quickly becoming a danger to our well-being.
This is a presidential election, not a junior prom, sweetheart. Try to show a little more respect. This is about a lot more than what you find sexually arousing in a man.
Never should’ve given women the right to vote. They think elections are some kind of male beauty pageant.
Notwithstanding your crude reading of my comments — apparently my final sentence was too “feminine” for you (read it again) — my thesis remains on solid footing: America needs someone who will stand up for her in the face of evildoers who seek her destruction. We need a man with a full set who understands that our nation teeters on the brink of being capsized by progressives, their Pravda-like cheerleaders, and their crony drones and leeches.
As for the female franchise, I am largely in agreement with you. But we have to play the hand we have, and single women are among the greatest supporters of the incumbent. And why? because as society crumbles, the traditional associations and charities that once supported families on the local level have been usurped by the state. This needs to be reversed so that true security — not the false, serf-like security the state offers (with strings attached) and which is soul-destroying — can be reasserted in our communities.
Security of resources was among the three “feelings” that prompted voters to choose liberals, in a recent survey conducted by political marketers. Progressives prey on these feelings and play them up in campaign season. Our job is to tell the truth: Real security comes from being able to support yourself, to live in a Capitalist economy where winners and losers come not from government subsidies but are the fruit of one’s own efforts, grit, talents, and tenacity. To tell the truth that group-identity politics, one, serve to obscure the responsibility individuals have to make it or break it on their own initiative and drive to succeed, and two, serve to line up support for state-sponsored theft.
Bold men tell the truth. Will Romney be the bold man we need at this hour?
darcy;
Romney could use a political advisor like you. Or any conservative, for that matter.
Go for it!
I know you from your many posts. We are compatriots with the same goals. I appreciate your kind words.
Great response to a truly backward, sexist, pinheaded post that didn’t deserve the time of day. Kudos to you.
Not much for metaphors, are you?
This movie doesn’t have a happy ending.
And the heroes are US.
“High Noon,” might be more apt.
It’s been a long time since I saw that movie but as I remember didn’t John Wayne lose the girl because he used his gun to protect her? Wasn’t she a Quaker that believed any violence was wrong no matter what the reason?
Perry1949:
The girl’s family were Quakers yet they stood in solid support of JW’s character (a “notorious gunfighter”) against his foes after he is wounded by them. “Wayne must choose between love and the promise to avenge the death of his foster-father,” so states the DVD back cover.
I don’t think I want to give away the ending, sorry.
Too many conservatives want their piece of red meat now. Romney knows that any meat requires moving the herd from pasture to pasture, planting and harvesting the hay and corn to see the herd through the winter, and, when the animals are butchered, giving more attention to preseving the meat for the year than having a red meat feast today.
Metaphor of the Month. Take a bow!
Exactly. People are so impatient. I guess they need to be reminded that, in the world of politics, the time between today & election day is an eternity. Romney has to tread a fine line between keeping just enough pressure on & overdoing it to the point of looking shrill. Add to this the element of the fact that Obama is an affirmative-action POTUS. My advice to Romney, a la Robin Williams’ genie advice to Alladin: Be yourself. As it is, Romney has trouble looking too plastic. Let him deal with Obama his way & again, be patient.
If you mean he has the courage of his convictions, you are probably correct.
If you mean he knows what is to be done, the existence of Romneycare shows you are at best half right.
Half right is what you are Tom Perkins. Romney did not author “Romneycare”. He signed it into law because of the veto proof Democrat legislature he was dealing with. Who knows what Romney actually wanted because he settled for what he could get. He was not in a position to stop the Democrats from pretty much doing whatever they wanted to do. Democrats naming their program after him is disingenuous and you and a lot of other so called conservative thinkers have been all to happy to push this fraud for them. Romney will never do everything I want done either but, in American politics, you take what you can get in each battle and you move on to the next one. ABO2012
Time to come down to earth and support this guy. The talking heads and congress give him zero support while on the left and MSM the “lie repeated a million times becomes the truth.” I kid you not on this last point. The libs have accused Romney of being a felon as one example. A gazillion fact checks reveal wait a minute shockingly that Obama is lying again! No outrage. No reporting. Then the talking heads gang up and say that Romney needs to release his tax returns for the last 50 years or I cannot believe he didn’t close down every bank account and put his money under a mattress since he has been running for President for the last 8 years.
Some day we will wake up as a country and start to see how all these bull shit artists, media punks, consultants like the Axelrods and Roves of this world have been treating us like fools. This election is a referendum on the stupidity of the American voter. If we elect Obama again, we deserve the certain disaster that follows.
I say lets get behind this guy and rip this country out of the hands of these liberal fruit cakes before it is too late. He is not perfect unlike Mr Klavan but he is our candidate for better or worse. But he is NOT a felon and frankly is an incredibly decent guy. Compare him to the current community organizer in chief and his band of scum bags, terrorists, communists, and muslime brotherhood connections. Who is the real felon?
He’s not Obama. That thoroughly qualifies him for the Presidency in these times.
True. Please tell me David that you are swaying over your undecided VA friends to the “light/right” side!
This is so frustrating … wait ’til someone mentions what the Book of Mormon says about black people. The attacks on Romney haven’t even begun.
Nice, Mr. Klavan. Good. He’s a dude. And you have a quaint man-crush on Ann Coulter. Fine. Mitt “Romster” Romney for president. Lovely. Nice.
But before I vote for him, tell me, does the Romster have a policy on zombies? Is he soft on zombies? Will the USA be prepared for two-front zombie invasions? We must not allow a zombie GAP!
Andrew, I hope you’re right, I think you’re right, and the enthusiasm gap for our guy is something we can’t afford. I am sending a check today to help protect my 10 grandkids’ future. The background of my life was the half century fight to stop communism. I thought we won that battle in 1991. Never did I suspect that we could be overturned from within by a Marxist President.
Zombie gap.
Enthusiasm gap.
What’s next, a doomsday gap?
Big troubles.
Gap?
“I cannot allow this country to suffer from a mittens-gap!
Our Precious Bodily Fluids MUST be protected!”
DIGNITY is what is being stolen from the Obama sycophants.
If you have none of your own, it’s ridiculed in others.
Romney was not my first choice or even my second, but I became a Romney fan months ago.
Here’s something about Romney I’ll bet you did not know:
In July, 1996, the 14 year old daughter of a partner at Bain had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstacy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.
Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find the girl. Romney set up a command center ant LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to help with the search, and organized the search effort. Romney created a team that was all in for finding the girl. And they did.
The whole story is on Snopes here:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/romney/search.asp
After reading that, there was no doubt in my mind this is the man I want as my President.
Thank you for this link! If ever something needed to go viral, this is it. And from Snopes, of all places.
What I can’t believe are those “talking heads” who keep insisting that Gov. Romney needs to explain his plans for the economy “in more detail.” HOW MUCH MORE SPECIFIC DO YOU NEED HIM TO BE, at least before he has a chance to implement these policies?
Why cant you believe that?
They are the same bald face liars that tell us Islam is peaceful, when every word and deed of its revered founder clearly contradicts that fantasy.
Evil lies. Sun rises
Next?
The more I find out about Romney, the more I like him. This article is spot on in stating that Romney has not been tooting his own horn enough. He is the type of person I admire most – quietly effective. He has made a success of everything he has put his hand to. And, unlike our current president, Romney loves our country.
unlike our current president, Romney loves our country.
That’s a line that should be said often and everywhere. It’ll work as a tagline for a series of ads, and it’ll just about fit on a bumper sticker.
It puts the bad guys on the defensive, too.
“Has he made mistakes? Yes, he has. But I made a mistake once and it hasn’t stopped me from becoming perfect since.”
This reminds me a lot of something a university friend used to say (jokingly). “Hey, I’m not perfect! I thought I made a mistake once but I didn’t.”
More like this one I used to use:
“I have NEVER been wrong…
well, one time I THOUGHT I was wrong…
I turned out to be right of course,
but I DO admit the mistake of having doubted myself!”
Romney is a fine man – everything we know about him supports that. His public persona is managerial, forged in a blue-state environment. This makes it difficult for red-blooded, red-state conservatives to warm up to him but it makes him a credible with the non-ideological swing voters a Republican must win over to get elected president. His wife will help voters warm up to him on a personal level.
I agree his wife is an asset.
Which is why he needs to push back FEROCIOUSLY on those sick and pathetic attempts to portray his wife and her “horse therapy” as something elitest.
Every single “horse farm” in my county that is open to the public has special programs for kids with autism and other disabilities to experience riding. The families are greateful their kids in wheelchairs get an opportunity to do something exciting and different….
And no, its not cheap to build ramps and special equipment to get these kids safely onto a horse, or to pay people to spend hours and hours arranging and supervising these events.
Horses in the Semi-rural burbs are a “rich mans” pleasure.
Thank god for them!
Mitt Romney is a squishy Bill-Clintoneque politician. He has no core beliefs and will sway to whether public opinion is at the time. That being said, he is like an overcooked steak compared to a turd sandwich. Romney 2012 because we’ve seen the alternative.
May I take a stab at parsing out the sentiment here? What you want, what we all want, is a manly man. A John Wayne/Patton prototype, a winner who’s kind to women and children and at the same time willing to kill those needing killing in defense of the country. Romney doesn’t quite deliver. Perhaps I’m reading a good deal into this, maybe this is my thing, not yours. Not sure.
Id-the first three letters in IDIOT.
Anne Coulter has been trying to tell everyone this since like forever because it’s true.
Mr. Klavan,
You are still stumbling around looking for a clue. Well, here it is.
Romney is a RINO. YES, he will be better then the 0bumbler. SO What?
You are confusing the symptom with the disease.
Mitt is a Clinton democrat. Yes he will stop the economic slid. SO What?
The economy is a SYMPTOM. The disease is the moral corruption of America. If the disease isn’t cured, no amount of symptom correction will help. Mitt will fix the economy enough to limp along for a few years, enough to get re-elected. Then the Disease will come back into play and we will be right back in this mess.
Conservatives share the same opinion on the 3G’s. God, Guns and Gays. Obey God, own a gun, Loath Gays. Anyone with a different position is NOT conservative. Some people use the term “Social Conservative”. No such thing. You are conservative or your not. Any one using the words “Social Conservative” is a RINO. A sure sign.
No compromise is possible.
A conservative platform will cure what’s wrong with America. Then we won’t need crooked politicians fixing the symptoms.
Celer, Silens, Mortalis.
What is wrong with America/the world cannot be fixed by government.
John Adams said “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Having lost our moral way, we will not find national ‘salvation’ in laws, executive orders, or through the outcome of an election. Because our leaders are a symptom, not the cause of our problems.
Surely Obama and his cronies are making things worse–both by their actions and example. Perhaps electing Mitt will stop (or slow) the decay, but no election will reverse it. And the democratic process provides no answer to our needs as a society.
Because the moral bankruptcy of America is the moral bankruptcy of our citizens. That’s a heart issue. That means that no politician can correct what ills our society. Only God can, and He does it one heart at a time.
So what do we do with all the victims of liberalism? An instant fix ‘conservative’ platform won’t do a thing for any of them. How do you teach somebody who’s been deceived all their life into passive dependence to become independent? How do you teach somebody who has no inkling of courage to give up the cowardice preached at them for generations before their birth? It’s going to take decades to fix the problems that the petite-fascists have foisted on us over a century, and it will take persuasion, instruction, patience, and compromise.
By your definition I’m not a conservative, because I pity gays instead of loathing them. Indeed I see loathing them as a contradiction of your first tenet; can’t recall anything Jesus said about loathing anybody. I suppose if you don’t buy the New Testament you can get away with hating your enemies, but if you’re Christian then that would be an anti-Christian attitude. A common failing in many Christians and even whole Christian sects. I detest the things that the petite-fascists have done, and many of them, especially leaders, were and remain foul and wicked. Fortunately I don’t have to decide whether they get heaven or hell, I’m only concerned with the outcome. As for their dupes, who have been led along blinded by lies, I can only pity them, but I certainly don’t hate them. Many of them will simply never be able to care for themselves because they’ve been damaged too much. I don’t see that letting them die of hunger will reflect credit upon any Christian, and certainly it won’t make conservatism any more palatable to those who fear it because of their carefully constructed fantasy world-view. Absolutism is counter-productive, as well as being wrong in itself. I don’t care about getting revenge on those who’ve done me wrong (and there are many). I want this country to be a better place, in every possible way, 50 years from now. We won’t get anywhere playing the villain in just the way the other side wants. They live in a world of caricatures, and don’t actually relate to reality. So making a caricature seem to live is hardly going to persuade them to do anything but buy their comforting lies a little more.
Sorry for the long diatribe, but I’m really sick of this “true conservative” crap. I reject your right to define the term in whatever way you choose. It’s a relative term, and can be stretched forever, which is why I prefer Federalist, or even more specifically a believer in the Federal Constitutional Commercial Republic.
I have to disagree with you a bit on the “loath gays” thing…
The Radical Homosexual Political Agenda? Yes.
The Forced Mainstreaming of homosexuality as “the same as”? Yes.
The Government Mandated social acceptance of every possible deviant sexual practice,
known for ages by Christians to be unhealthy? Yes.
But we cant “loath” gay people, just because they are homosexual.
We cant do that because it is clearly for most, an affliction….an outside the norm mental/emotional/biological condition that unfortunately, manifests itself in otherwise INNOCENT CHILDREN as they reach a certain age range.
Like most all spontaneous human illnesses, being homosexual is a result of the sheer complexity our biological systems, and the number of things that can go wrong within them….statistically speaking, X-number of us will suffer from it, just as we do all other ailments, regardless of any social or moral preferences to the contrary.
To be afflicted with homosexuality is probably the most difficult and gut-wrenching event for any young person to realize, short of cancer or some other life threatening illness. I cannot blame them, or judge their character as bad, for having this disorder anymore than I can “loath” a person afflicted with tremors, believing they should be shunned and distained for their difficulty handling in silverware or a drinking cup in a restaurant. That is simply unacceptable Christian behavior.
So I will not ostracize or rant against any decent, polite, well-mannered homosexual person simply because their sexuality markers are unusually cross-wired compared to the human norm. Let them find others to meet their romanic needs, and hopefully they will feel some peace in stead of angst and self loathing as they have for centuries. This is no harm to me.
I would hope that they, in return, would not feel compelled to parade outside on certain days with their genitals exposed, in insulting “religious” costumes and assorted fetish wear, while performing sex acts in the full view of my children on a city street.
Dignity runs both ways. Respect is a two way street. We must clearly distinguish that what we as Conservative Christians object to, is NOT their affliction.
It is the inappropriateness of their flamboyant and disrespectful PUBLIC SEXUAL BEHAVIOR. The forced Governmental support, acknowledgement and celebrations of such PUBLIC SEXUAL BEHAHVIOUS, and the Governments encouragement of the bigoted and hateful anti-Christian imagery and commentary that regularly accompanies their political messages, all too often funded with our own taxes.
The problem is not their affliction. The problem is that no other POLITICAL group (except Muslims) has the POLITICAL carte’ blanch to regularly insult, ridicule, and condemn other Americans in the most vile and hateful terms, without suffering any social POLITICAL liability, as they do.
We must make clear our distain is of the politic, not the biologic, concerning “Gay” people in America.
Its a difficult, dare I say “nuanced” argument to make, when faced with an openly hostile pro-gay media that is proud to be seen worldewide as our avowed political enemy. But it is one we must, none the less, make.
It is our duty, as good people, to make such distinctions between the rightness of our ways,
verses the wickedness of theirs
Well done.
“With Obama and leftism failing so spectacularly and completely, we conservatives are hankering for a Reaganesque visionary to ride out of the dawn horizon and set things moving rightward once and for all.”
I’ll settle for a person who will reduce taxes, reduce government spending, and reduce the size of the government. If he can do those three things, we’ll have not only a winner, but one of those rarest of things, a politician who can actually get things done in Washington. And Romney would be a million times better than a second Obama term, regardless of what he stands for. So vote for him. Trust me, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I second the motion!
Barack Obama became our President based on speeches that were more impressive than his political accomplishments, and which purposefully hid his political philosophy. Now, Andrew Klavan is excited about Romney because of a single speech, disconnected from his lifetime of liberal political action. Did Romney identify Obama a a Marxist in the speech? No. He has not yet explained the choice we face, though Obama has called Romney a criminal. We are in a war for our civilization, and Romney is our polite leader, unafraid to trash conservatives, but exceedingly polite in dealing with the Chicago thug Marxist.
Romney is on fire today, and has also laid the choice out in fairly stark terms. This is from Yahoo!’s The Ticket:
Romney largely focused on the larger picture of what he called Obama’s hostility toward business—which he argued has been a setback to efforts to revive the economy and has, in turn, made life tougher for struggling Americans. He accused Obama of “crushing economic freedom” in the country with burdensome regulations.
“I’m convinced he wants Americans to be ashamed of success,” Romney declared. “I want Americans to welcome and celebrate success and to encourage people to reach as high as they can. … I don’t want government to take credit for what the individuals of America accomplish.”
Romney called the upcoming election a “defining choice about what America is going to be”—a choice, he said that will not only impact future generations of Americans but the “world.”
I think Romney is doing the right thing by not releasing more tax records and by fighting back on Bain. These are just distractions, everyone knows that and it seems even the press is getting tired of it. When The Ticket actually runs another story saying Obama is “smearing” Romney, you know the tide just might be turning….
I guess where we differ, Mr. Klavan, is that you’re listening to his rhetoric, and I’m looking at his record.
Of the two, I know which one has a better track record of indicating what kind of conduct we can expect once in office.
Or, as a sage once said, “Talk is cheap.”
I assume you talking about obama. After all, who has done nothing but destory this country and has no record to run on. But accuse someone who has lived all his life as an honest human being and who has helped businesses who go out and hire 1000′s of people.
Besides, we can only say that obama is able to read well. And use his black dialect/teenage dialect whenever he wants.
Don’t have much use for facts, do you?
Speak for yourself. You obviously don’t have much use for the fact that we’d all be better off with Romney as POTUS versus Obama. You do no one any favors by not supporting Romney in November. If there are enough other people who plan to approach this thing the way you do, Obama will get his second term. I hope to hear no complaints from you about Obama if that happens.
It is a myth that successful people are arrogant. Successful people who achieved something significant in their own and/or others’ eyes are usually NOT arrogant, with of course some exceptions. It is those whose reach exceeds their grasp — who achieved something but think they deserve more, or who didn’t achieve much although they think they deserved to — who are usually the arrrogant ones.
For example, it’s usually the associate professor, not the nobel prize winning established authority, who struts his credentials and alleged superiority over the plebes. It’s usually the GP who wants to be a famous heart surgeon but can’t who demands everybody call him “doctor” all the time, including in the supermarket checkout line. As opposed to the GP who is perfectly happy *being* the “town doctor”, as an honorable and useful calling in life — those of us lucky enough to know such a person will tell you he usually is quite nice.
It’s not some objective scale of success that determines who will be arrogant, but what the person wanted to achieve vs. where he is.
For what it’s worth, I supported Romney back when Brad Thor et al were trashing him in favor of Santorum. I recall a few folks that I can only assume were sincere, saying they’d never support Romney.
I said then the same thing I’ll say now: Yes, you will support Romney, because you are an adult.
Romneycare is borne of the truth that Americans are too gosh-darned nice to turn people away from emergency rooms. His solution to state-ify medicine was, of course, the wrong conclusion. It seems that he’s learned this, even though he hasn’t explicitly said so. I can live with this, and so can you, because you are an adult.
I will not support Romney because I am a man of principle. I will not support this obvious fraud, the father of homosexual “marriage”, this advocate for the destruction of morality, this “Republican” who governed somewhere to the left of Ted Kennedy.
No, 4 more years of Obama is NOT automatically worse than Romney.
By the way, it’s already illegal to turn someone away from an emergency room, and has been for several decades.
It’s also irrelevant to Romneycare.
I hope you are still standing on your principles as you wait in line for your potato and bag of flour. I hope you are still remembering your high minded principles while you are waiting in line for your first open heart surgery. I hope a man of principle will be happy to support the only candidate on the next Presidential ballot. Sheesh. Pull your head out, you are suffocating yourself. ABO2012

Mitt Romney’s background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for
President of the United States.
You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what
religion he is, and that he won’t desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility. Im sure he won’t attack (DOMA) Defense of Marraige Act nor will he promote the homosexual agenda or abortion!
I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We won’t like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney’s background can do it.
But, on the minus side, he never was a “Community Organizer,” never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to da*n the US.
Really?
Based on WHAT????
No governor in America has done more to promote the homosexual agenda. He single-handedly created homosexual marriage in Massachusetts, by executive order.
What world are you living in?
Okay. You have successfully posted a half dozen Romney trashings in one day. Time to go to the campaign pay window and collect your bonus now, Obama troll! ABO2012
I’ve been on board with Romney from the get go. And I agree about the NAACP speech. That said, it’s possible that the whole Bain thing is not so much about Bain but about Romney going to speak to the NAACP and putting forth what he believes in for all America, including personal responsibility and hard work. Sure, he got booed but he was listened to, sometimes applauded, and given a polite standing ovation. Not a good thing for Obama and the Progressives. The reaction was immediate. BTW we should stop calling Obama and his supporters Democrats and call them what they self identify as Progressives. Democrats will either stand as Progressives or have to somehow explain how they are not. The Democrat Party has sold its soul to the Progressive ilk and they should be called on it. Pretty sure there’s a whole bunch of people who might identify as Dems but not as Progressives.
I agree completely with your take. Looking at Romney in that hall, speaking plainly and respectfully to a crowd that was ready to reject him if only because of who his opponent is, I came away thinking this is a man who could be president.
He was eloquent in his plain-speaking. I came here because I want to be President of all Americans (or something like that). How refreshing. When he was booed, he explained his thinking.
It scared the stuffing out of the Obama machine.
Just the fact that this article needed to be written is a testament to the destructive power of not only the MSM, but the conservatives who are influenced by her siren call. True, Mitt has said some odd things, like referring to himself as “a severe conservative”. But compared to his qualities and fine character, (the biggest one for me is that he’s a problem solver with big-time financial savvy) he can certainly be forgiven when facing a torrent of criticism from just about everybody he comes in contact with… Watch how he gets downright heckled when he was across the street from the Solyndra property… how would we react in such a position?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uv_EFDFJdU
The media coverage in this election will be historic, in that it will be so utterly one-sided in Obama’s favor, and so strongly against Romney, that one could consider the MSM a consulting/communications wing of the incumbent President, even though he’s taking us swiftly down to destruction, to the delight of his blind followers. What does Jesus say about the blind leading the blind?
Who would prevail in a street fight: a man of integrity or a street-fighter?
With an army of voters behind him, the man of integrity always!
“I’m beginning to suspect Mitt Romney is an actual real live man of integrity.”
His entire life certainly supports this conclusion.
Does that include the part of his life where he was pro-abortion and pro-homosexual when he wanted to be elected governor of a liberal state, and pro-life and pro-marriage when he wanted to be nominated as Republican candidate for President?
Does that include the part of his life where he didn’t raise any objection to Marriot selling hard porn in its hotel, and the part where he’s an upstanding family man?
I can understand people who say they will vote for Romney because the alternative is Obama. I don’t agree, but I can understand and respect that position.
But you people who are trying to paint Mitt Romney as a man of integrity are just pathetic.
More leftist drivel from our resident Obamabot. ABO2012
If Romney loses, it will not be because of the left or the msm…it will be the fault of conservatives and the right in general.
It will be because conservatives bickered and fought over the ‘purity’ of Romney and kept wishing for another Reagan to appear…and sat on their butts.
Rick S or Rick P or Newt would have been killed by the Dems, it would have been a rout. The fact the left has to go after Bain and Romney’s HIGH SCHOOL record, his dog and his wife shows how little they have to sink their teeth into.
If all the left could unite behind Obama (the least qualified candidate on the planet) 4 years ago, then we conservatives, libertarians, and Republicans can surely unite behind Mitt Romney.
“Black people can barely get back and forth from work?” You could have fooled me. I live in what probably should be called a “mixed demographic” neighborhood, predominantly white but with a number of blacks and Hispanics thrown in for good measure. Two doors up from me is a black family, with two young kids who are friendly and love to play with my dog. I very much doubt the adults have problems getting to and from work — there’s a large SUV in the driveway, next to a Mercedes. Both cars are clean and well-maintained, and the house recently had new siding installed. That NAACP woman sure doesn’t speak for my neighbors.
What a joke. The Republican party serves up tasteless, watered-down gruel every four years, and every four years you grumble and moan about how you won’t eat it. And then professional turd polishers and shills like Andrew Klavan show up at your nursing homes to tell you how delicious gruel is, and then spoon feed it to you. And you pathetically slurp it up and even pretend to like it because you have no choice and no cajones to fight for a party or candidate that actually cares about you. Instead you pick a spineless jobkilling waffling RINO loser of a candidate, pretend to be proud to pick a loser, and then, four or eight years later, you all pretend that you didn’t like the loser to begin with. At least the Democrats get candidates that they like. We’re stuck polishing turds every election cycle. At some point this “Anybody but the other guy” crap is no longer going to cut the mustard.
So let me ask you about that job you have for Obama’s Office of the Director of Progressive Media and Online Response. Does it pay well?
Should Romney make it into the presidency my prediction is that you’ll get a manly man one week followed by a wuss the next week followed by a manly man the next week followed by a wuss rinse and repeat rinse and repeat rinse and repeat. It will be maddening, to put it mildly. Better than the destroyer presently in office? No question. But not at all the consistent straight shooter we need.
Give a listen to his speech given today in Pennsylvania.
Pretty good stuff..

It was a very good speech & if he can keep that up, he’ll win in a landslide.
Thanks for sharing that Boris B…
President Obama is also busy shooting himself in the foot:

Can’t wait to see the snivelling leftist lackeys deal with the severe damage from this one. Just let him open his mouth and watch for the gems of truth that reveal his utter lack of understanding to come forth.
You make a good point there, resoluteconservative. Every time the incumbent opens his mouth he betrays his antipathy to the American way of life. Every word he utters reveals his Marxist roots and goals, utopian-fantasies as they are.
Even in what he chooses to attack about Romney he reveals him to be nothing more than the pathetic man behind the curtain: don’t look at the truth, look at me! What a doofus. Anyone who can align himself with this clown should go hide under a rock.
According to a late breaking report in the Daily Rash, the NAACP announced its endorsement of Mitt Romney for president. http://www.thedailyrash.com/naacp-endorses-mitt-romney-for-president

Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has given more back to its citizens in terms of money, service and time than most men.
Mitt Romney is Trustworthy and has Nothing to Hide
He will show us his high school and college transcripts.
He will show us his law degree.
He will show us his birth certificate
He will show us his social security card.
He will show us his draft notice.
He will show us his medical records.
He will show us his income tax records.
He will show us he has nothing to hide.
Mitt Romney’s background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader.
He has the background and record to become an excellent President of the United States.
Indeed. My only worry with Mittens is that he will be too nice to our enemies, because mortal enemies is what they are. They need to be driven from the public square and destroyed, utterly!
Oh, well. I can dream, can’t I?
Why doesn’t Obama ever mention Mitt’s other dog story? The one where, after rescuing a drowning family on a lake, he went back for the dog?
Obama would still be looking for his bicycle helmet (complete with sissy shin-guards!). I tell you, he’s as gay as daisies in May. Bet on it.
‘GAY AS DAISIES IN MAY’….LOVE IT! Now that would be evolving, huh?
Real live integrity is awesome and desperately needed, but he also needs to grow a pair of real live gonads.
Romney is not a wimp. Anyone who could force Billy Bulger out of a comfy highly paid government job in Massachusetts has to be really tough.
For those who aren’t knowledgeable about MA politics, Billy was the Senate President of the legislature for years and ran the place with an iron hand. He was also one of the most corrupt politicians in MA history. Everything was for sale, minimum of $5,000. My wife’s company once had to make a $50,000 payoff to his law partner to do business in certain parts of Boston.
Part of Billy’s power rested on the implicit behind the scenes threat of his older brother, James, aka, Whitey. Whitey, formerly the FBI’s most wanted criminal, is now awaiting trial for committing nineteen murders. (The State Police claim the real number is closer to fifty, but who’s counting.)
Romney just wants to be President. Obama wants to be Emperor. This is the chief difference between the two men.
Romney loves America and wants to stop it going over the cliff and turn things around. Obama hates America and is determined shove it over the cliff to its utter destruction. this is the chief difference between them.
If Obama gets another term, the United States will look like Syria in 2013, with Obama starring as Assad.
“A man of integrity”? No, not even close, no way, no how. The best we’ve got because of a deeply flawed process? Probably so. Hold your nose and vote. Our disappointment in Mittens will no doubt be as bad as the Left’s disappointment in Obama. We can look forward to 2016. Or 2020.
PROOF: Mitt Romney Is As Liberal As OBAMA!!! Oct 23, 2011

Weak. Proves nothing.
Its funny, I don’t remember any of the greatness of Reagan. I suppose I was too young.
Romney if he is as some of the posts above state, will be the man to vote for. But when business and politics are a driving force in a mans life, especially if that man claims to be God centered, I get a tad nervous.
Huckabee and Santorum have a very important job right now: keep Romney on the straight-and-narrow by maintaining the ever-present threat of a 2016 primary challenge. He can and should take on one of them as his Vice President, but the other will have a duty to make sure Romney governs as a conservative or else challenge him in the primaries.
Santorum as V.P…..he’ll have my vote for sure, well, even with Huckawannabe he would still have my vote over the Pol Pot of the Potomac. But, it would just be another disappointment we’ll have to fix in 2016.
We know that politicians will morph into whatever they feel will get them votes. Look at Romney – he’s taken so much heat for being soft and weak against the dems attacks that he is FINALLY going on offense….thank God.
Romney is a good man of genuine accomplishment. He’s rich (gasp!). He does not have to do this. He could just go fishing. We are lucky to have him. Like most men of genuine accomplishment, it is not his nature to stand up and announce how great he is every five minutes. It’s called humility.
Obama is a duplicitous man of no accomplishment. He’s rich because he got someone else to write books for him. He DOES have to do this. He has no skills, and no business experience. He could not get any other type of job. Like most men of no accomplishment, he likes stand up and announce how great he is every five minutes. It’s called narcissism.
I know who I’d rather emulate, and it ain’t Obama.
“The Dude” abides.
the editor deleted the /sarc in
“You forgot the /sarc at the end.”
sorry about that.
I’m definitely for Romney in this election.
Remember voting for McCain? We did it but with a bad taste in our mouths. I won’t have that same feeling voting for Romney.
Some thought provoking comments above.
Now ready for a Romney bumper sticker.
You know for a long time I’ve been quietly thinking I would vote for Romney, if he were to get the nom. But I live deep in vocal democratic territory and prefer to keep my politics to myself. Have quietly voted my position every election since graduating high school (30 years ago). Not registered republican. Yet there’s no more time to hide my position. And you’re right, this is a lot better than the 2008 cycle. That was just a warmup. I’m not ashamed anymore. The moment’s come. I’m ready.
Here’s the one big all-important difference that makes Romney the better candidate:
Under Romney the economy will almost certainly improve markedly — at the least. The only debate is how well the economy will do: significant and measurable improvement, or an outright surge?
How do I know this?
1) The general business community is itching to get back on track after being derailed by the financial collapse and Obama’s regulatory monster. This is documented. A Romney win will inspire huge confidence from the business sector
2) The energy sector will be unleashed. Since America is now going to be the biggest energy supplier in the world — especially after Obama’s virtual moratoriums and deliberate coal industry sabotage are lifted, the energy sector will undergird America’s economic revival . . . . IF Romney becomes President.
Both of these factors are pretty safe bets, even with the looming Eurocalamity and Chinese slowdown. Worry about Romney’s “conservative” or “statist” creds later, like in February.
This is an excellent essay, right on the truth. If indeed former governor Romney believes in, and is unafraid to speak out about, this plantation/dependency mentality I am wholeheartedly in favor of his presidency. The truth needs to be said and Rebublicans seem to be afraid of upsetting liberals and the Left-wing media who want them essentially DEAD. Maybe figuratively maybe really.
I have been saying: GET MAD, MITT.
The citizens know the truth, they only want someone to speak it. Romney did; hopefully he will continue. Hopefully!
“Given the precedent set by past seven Presidents and Presidential candidates of releasing multi-year tax returns why is Romney making an exception?” Because he has a lot to hide, apparently.
He’s the only one that knows what’s in there, and apparently he’s made the judgement that he’s better off having us suspect the worst, rather than us knowing whats in there, which apparently in his mind is worse than anything we’re likely to imagine.
Possibilities include:
(1) He ended up with 120 million in his 401K by the trick of agreeing with Bain to grossly undervalue the market value of his stock, then a few years later have the stock get unvalued to the stratosphere.
(2) He participated in the tax avoidance amnesty program of a few years back, avoiding major tax penalties or prosecution.
(3) Any one or more of the other borderline legal but very bad smelling tax dodges– “in-kind” trades, “no-risk” trades, no-risk write-offs, the list is almost endless.
And BTW he HASNT even released all of his 2010 return, he very conveniently left off the foreign investments and deposits form. Very convenient.
And his argument that it would be “bothersome” to collect the tax data is a crock too– he supposedly collected 23 years of the stuff to show to McCain in 2008.

Republicans betrayed their own conscience when they went against established Republican principles like the MANDATE over healthcare which was a Heritage foundation issue popularized by Gingrich.
Obama did more than his share to UNITE but the Republicans were out to oppose for opposing sake and not following any policy or principles. In the famous words of Minority Senate Leader Mitch McConnell the Republicans were out to defeat the Obama agenda even if it went against established Republican policies set by past precedent.
Mitch McConnell was out to make sure that President Obama remains a one term President and see where it has brought the Congress and its public esteem.
Gingrich out of his own admission was out to defeat Obama from the day he was sworn in as President.
You can not justify the Republicans as the “loyal” opposition as is the case in most mature democracies. They have been out to get President Obama by hook or by crook. A leader can meet the opposition half way but can not fold completely to their whims and fantasies like that of the current Tea Party affiliates.
Republicans will loose in 2012 just like they did in 2008 but with a smaller margin because of the dark money of Billionaires due to Citizens United verdict of the right wing Supreme Court.

” … Mitt Romney senior adviser Ed Gillespie said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” the GOP candidate “retroactively” retired from Bain Capital after the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics began. … ”
No body who has been drawing at LEAST $100,000.00 per year from 1999 to 2002 from Bain Capital “retroactively” retires from Bain Capital AFTER the 2002!!! Then why draw the salary of at LEAST $100,000.00 per year from 1999 to 2002 from Bain Capital if Romney retired from Bain “retroactively” !!!
” … Gillespie continued, “He took a leave of absence and, in fact, Candy, he ended up not going back at all and retired retroactively to February of 1999 as a result.” … ”
However SEC documents show Mitt Romney as sole owner of all shares of Bain Capital. Romney is also shown as CEO, President and Chairman of Board of Bain Capital in 2001 and 2002 then LEGALLY speaking Mitt Romney has been responsible to all that goes on under the banner of Bain Capital. Then to run for Governor of MA Romney sought residency of MA by lieu of his Bain positions. Now either Romney was at the Olympics OR he was at BAIN.
Only one can be true not BOTH at the same time simultaneously!!! Will the true Willard Mitt Romney stand up and accept ONE thing? Does Romney want to accept untrue SEC filings and be called a Felon or agree that he represented Bain from 1999 to 2002?
=========================================================================================
On Friday the 13th (7/13/2012) the very illusive Mitt Romney gave very defensive interviews to all FIVE networks on a single day at once!! Just a few days ago Mitt Romney said to FOX News that explaining means that you are WEAK. So his five interviews “explaining” his time at Bain were signs of his weakness!!
Presidential Candidate Mr. Mitt Romney maybe feeling the heat on his role in BAIN Capital, his business experience which was supposed to be his sole criteria for creating jobs and his greatest qualification for running for the American Presidency in the current economy in 2012!
However SEC documents show Mitt Romney as sole owner of all shares of Bain Capital. Romney is shown as CEO, President and Chairman of Board of Bain Capital in 2001 and 2002 then LEGALLY speaking Mitt Romney has been responsible to all that goes on under the banner of Bain Capital.
Mitt Romney can not just share the good like job creation from 1999 to 2002 and leave the ugly like Bankruptcies and layoffs behind as if he had nothing to do about them from 1999 to 2002.
If he really wanted to disassociate himself from Bain Capital he could have resigned and sold all his shares in Bain Capital in February 1999 then it would have been a different matter but to share in the glory of Bain’s job creation accept a salary of $100,000 or MORE (where are the Tax Returns?) for three years and only to refuse to take the responsibility of Bankruptcies and layoffs on his WATCH (1999-2002) is trying to have it both ways and then complaining of playing politics having been caught with his hand in the proverbial Cookie Jar that is the very essence of an ACTIVE LEGAL ROLE in Bain Capital till 2002!! Was Romney getting $100,000.00 or more to do NOTHING for BAIN Capital???
Mitt Romney will have to face the consequences of this leaving Bain “lie” that Mitt Romney has brought on upon himself. If we keep reminding the Romney campaign of the Bain exit lie and Romney’s ill effects on workers robbing them of their hard earned salaries and life long benefits all the way to November then 7/13/2012 (FRIDAY the 13th) will go down as the turning point of the 2012 Presidential election!
